Barricane Beach Cafe in North Devon

Great place on the beach, only had a hot drink but great after a long walk, apparently the curry's are fantastic but unfortunately we've missed out as it's its last day of opening. After wait till next year

Such a lovely cafe! Had tea and scones in the daytime (with real cups!) Then a gorgeous curry in the evening!

Just lovely food. Staff all very friendly, And you get to sit and watch the sunset on a beautiful beach.

Probably the best thing we have had to eat since we arrived! Pulled pork wrap was lush and my husband had the chicken ciabatta very well cooked and delicious tender flavoursome chicken.We will be back later for the curry!!

This is definitely worth a visit when in Woolacombe. The curry is absolutely delicious and a real novelty to have such a great meal from a small hut on the beach. It’s located in a really beautiful spot - perfect to watch the sun go down - but get there nice and early as the curry will sell out! Also recommend the fresh pineapple juice.

Curry on the beach! Great curry, served with daal, rice, salad, poppadoms. The yoghurt and mint dip and mango chutney were nice too. BYOB so a great place to have a beer and a curry on the beach as the sun goes down. The place was buzzing with kids splashing in the river and the sound of people chatting. The queue is very long as this place is so popular but it moves quickly.

For us, three friends, overrated. Curry expensive, not tasty, no herbs, fast food from Sri Lanka. Sorry for the average rating. However, anyway always crowded there.

The location is so lovely you'd leave a positive review if they served average food. Fortunately they don't and the Sri Lankan curry was top notch, far exceeded expectations. I highly recommend a try.

Lovely family meal on the beach. Great food, great location. Parking is difficult or expensive but if you get a space this little cafe is well worth a visit!

This was a really special dinner. We had the vegetable curry which was delicious and the location was perfect. We will definitely be coming back

We have been to the Sumith's café many times before and the standard never drops. Yesterday I had, possibly, the best hot sandwich of my life. The devilled beef ciabata was gorgeous, my wife had the Iberian chicken and each of my girls a choice of wrap. Everything was FULL and overflowing with flavour. Even my young girls enjoyed the spice and the flavour profile. Served as a takeaway in recyclable materials we could then walk down the beach to a quiet spot and enjoy amongst the rock pools. 100% recommended. Great service and polite despite the constant flow of demanding customers.

Went here specifically for the Sri Lankan Curry offer. The food was delicious & the setting wonderful towards late afternoon. Would recommend both the food and small secluded beach area, which is good for all ages.

Where else can you find a Cafe on the beach? A steep slope down to Barricane. Picnic tables outside the Cafe? Drinks , ice cream and a yummy range of filled rolls, plus more. Everything freshly made. Still selling their popular curry after 5pm.

How have I not been here before in almost 30th a visiting North Devon. We will be back. Food was delicious and the atmosphere amazing.

Fabulous cove with cafe, serving curries in the evening 5-7pm We had a wonderful evening. The curry us ok...chicken tough, rice overcooked, poppadom soft, not enough sauce...BUT the while experience worth it!!! Would I go again? , definitely!!

I review this gem of a place slightly reluctantly as I know that every positive review helps to increase the chance that they will run out of food before me, next time I get to go. What can I say, only the best Sri Lankan food in the south-west (I know, my mother was born there), on the most perfect little beach. Fantastically efficient and friendly service. Thank you!

Came upon this cafe by chance and had a Sri Lankan curry, one vegi and one chicken. Absolutely fabulous. All made with fresh ingredients, especially the herbs and spices. Noticed afterwards the reviews have been mixed but our experience this evening was superb. Long queue, which moved quickly, was testament to the popularity of this location and menu. Great food in an unbeatable location!

Had the curry on the beach and it was amazing as always.

A special place. Unfortunately, we came for lunch, so we could not try the curry because this is only served between 5 and 7 p.m. I had the hot beef ciabatta. Very tasty and hot. The location itself is excellent. I really recommend this small restaurant, a beach hut, for a sunny afternoon.

OMG! Such amazing Sri Lankan veg curry! FROM 5-7pm. Place your order, wait a while, be patient, you will be rewarded! Take your own bottle of wine or beer and watch the sun go down! Heaven!

Our experience at Barricane Beach Cafe was excellent. The chicken curry was delicious with fresh ingredients. Service was fast and friendly. Highly recommend.

We first came for a curry to Barricane Beach Cafe couple of years ago. We were blown away by the whole experience of being able to enjoy a delicious Sri Lanken curry sat on this beautiful sandy beach... and it was delicious! Unfortunately I can't say the same for the one we had recently. We both had a chicken curry, which came with a couple of slices of dryish chicken, potatoes, some shredded veg and some plain soggy dahl with very little flavours. Few broken pieces of popodoms were on top of it, which by the time I sat down and started eating were also soggy. Currently definatly not worth £15 a portion, but I can forget that part, I just feel really disappointed that it has lost its magic. Please bring back the curry you used to serve. It would be such a shame to spoil this wonderful experience you created.

Very rude man my husband was told to move his mobility scooter out the way, he can’t walk far so this was a really horrible thing to say and made him feel very uncomfortable. This man should not be able to discriminate against disabled people! Very rude

Stopped here for a drink and was a bit pricey. Especially when it was pineapple juice scooped out of a tub in the bottom of the fridge.

A unique, and beautiful, little bay to enjoy really good Sri Lankan curry. Bring your own booze (and receptacles) and prepare for a demanding mile walk back up to Morthoe if that's where you are staying.

Lovely place. Peaceful ( no yobs yelling n playing football). Food is hot n spicy. Staff helpful. Saw the building being lowered into position in a photo in local news. Don't forget Yr suncream!

The biggest draw is the location, it is such a beautiful bay, a real treat to spend time at. The Sri Lankan curry was nice but quite overpriced as the portion for each curry is small and extras are a lot for tiny amounts. You are really paying for the place and the experience.

Fabulous food and amazing view. Bell rings at 5pm to say the Sri Lankan curry is ready for service and the queue starts straight away. Bring a blanket and a bottle of your favourite drink and watch the sunset with delicious food

While I struggled to find very much online about the cafe prior to the visit it came highly recommended so we trusted those recommendations. We were not disappointed. The food is well presented, tastes fantastic and served in a beautiful location. A must for anyone visiting the area!

This beach is amazing Nicely hidden away. The cafe sells top quality curries at a reasonable price, the chicken and the veg options were very very good. Bring your own beers.

Curry starts around 4:50 and is delicious. They have a meat option and a vegetarian option and it is £13.50. Used to be cash only but now they take card. Beach is lovely.

Love this cafe, visited a few years back and it hasn't lost it's charm! Curry on the beach of an evening, fresh and great portion size! Salad and baguettes for lunch today, much the same, fresh, great flavours and service with a smile. Love having a mug of coffee on the beach and china plate to eat from, the staff never seem to stop and always smiling, what a credit to the cafe and customer service.

Fantastic place to eat in all respects. Don’t go expecting Pattaks or shop bought paste curry, this is the real deal! Served from a small container ship by a family business set in a lovely bay. Remember to buy mango chutney to go with your fantastic food. The sometimes lengthy wait for your food is a testament to how good it is. I was reading some of the negative reviews on here and it’s clear these people don’t get out much and should stick to there fish and chips.

Came here a few years ago with a friend and wanted my family to experience it. It was as good as I remembered it and the service was cheery and fun. A must do if you are in the area.

Great food but never again! Too many people, too little space and too many barking dogs (owners immune to the fact that most people don’t appreciate barking dogs!) and no toilet? Cafe owners need to take some responsibility for managing the site rather than just the money.

Wow!!!! Popped over to Barricane Beach in the evening for curry. Parked up on the road, 5 minute walk down to the beach. Little queue to order but the food arrived quickly. Superb. £13.50 for three curries, rice, sambal and poppadums. All really lovely in a beautiful place. Tide turns quickly though. Highly recommended and def worth a visit

Best curry on a beach. It’s a real highlight to visit Devon and go to Barricane Beach for a curry. Just absolute love it and we are never disappointed. The queues are a give away - it is that good! Staff are always so friendly/helpful - and they also take card payments now (when the 3G works!) We will always return and it remains a highlight

What a hidden gem! Perfect if it's windy because it is protected from the beautiful natural cliffs on either side. Keep in mind it is a pebble beach and not a sand one. But the food from here is also amazing. The curry is served at set times but you can get other treats and drinks anytime.

We didn’t go to the cafe but we took our daughter to find some sea shells and she loved it - even though the weather was terrible, we made the most of it. Very cool place and I could see how it would be a lot of fun to explore on a hot sunny day.

We came here several times for the vanilla ice cream which was delicious. Came back one evening for the Sri Lankan curry and had mixed feeling. Each box of chicken curry with rice, chickpea, salad veg and poppadom at £13.50 was a bit pricey considering there were only three pieces of chicken which were quite dry. The sides were very tasty though. Extra spicy only meant chilli oil on top of the curry. Sad to say, a little disappointed.

Simple beach café at the bottom of the ramp to the beach. Does teas, coffees ciabattas and Ice creams until 4, but the main event is the curry served between 5 and 7. Menu is veggie/vegan or meat curry, mild or medium. Rice, Poppadoms and dhal added as standard. £12 for a good portion in a take away container. The lengthy queue down the ramp tells you how popular it is. Back in 2023. Still great food, but curry is now £13.50, but at least they now have a card machine.

Loved the food at this awesome little place. Very tasty authentic Sri Lankan food. We got there about 6pm and the que was long (also very exposed to sun so was very hot, bare in mind if u have a dog). service was great. Only issue was I asked for mine spicy, but when it came, it wasn't spicy but the flavours are lovely. The menu confused me slightly. They had 2 options, meat or veg. The meat consisted of 1 meat portion and 2 veg portions and the veg option was 3 veg portions. So the 3 portions make up the meal. Nice little dog friendly shingle beach to sit on whilst eating. They take contact-less payment here now. Take your own beer or wine.

I've been coming here on and off for a few years now. Really is the best place to enjoy Sri Lankan curry on the beach. You can bring dogs and your own alcohol. Good size portions of food too. Beautiful atmosphere. Would definitely recommend.

We ate here whilst staying in Woolacombe. With a glorious sunny evening we decided to go down to the beach for one of their Sri Lankan curries. This was excellent and certainly good value. They offer both a meat and vegetarian option and both are gluten free. The experience was enhanced by the ambiance of sitting on the beach. This is not haute cuisine but definitely an experience to be savoured when visiting Woolacombe.

After an amazing swim in sea, was recommended by another swimmer about the infamous Sri Lankan curry serviced at the cafe, whilst in the queue for a drink others in the queue were discussing waiting for the bell to ring to let people know the curries were being served. Advised to order asap as queues go up to top of path & once gone than gone!! So ordered the chicken Sri Lankan curry, which comes with vegetables, rice, daal and poppadums!! Wow! delicious, loved it that much we returned again

Lovely cove near Woolacombe. Beach Cafe served salads and snacks as well as Sri Lankan curries. There was a really big queue before it opened but we waited and enjoyed our food with a sea view.
