The bar staff I can only give 5 stars as they worked incredibly hard. The pint of Gem also gets 5 stars... so why a 4 star rating? Because the place is full of Student Grants (if you're old enough to remember Viz when it was funny) and unfortunately they're 2024 versions, so they're very self-entitled. Apart from that, a nice place.

Great pub! We went to the OPPO Comedy night on Tuesday evening - excellent prices for decent cocktails. We didn't eat but the food looked great. Friendly atmosphere.

Great, atmospheric, place for a couple of drinks. Playing some excellent blues music (not live) on the night we visited. They do seem to have a eclectic selection of live music booked every weekend. Good beer. Friendly staff.

I recently hired Barrelhouse for my hubbys 40th and it was absolutely perfect. The staff were all so relaxed and super helpful, nothing was a bother. The drinks were great, prices super reasonable and we were able to smash out some great tunes in our private room until super late. Couldn't recommend them more, thanks everyone xxx

Great place to throw a party! We booked a room (free of charge as it was during the off-season) on a Saturday night for ~30 people, and the team were dead helpful in talking us through what they could offer in terms of the venue (including spaces, food -- good pizzas -- and speakers to play music). Would happily book again!

Had to leave a review on here (ordered on Uber Eats) but pizza is insaneeee! Had the hot mama and put your hands up for Detroit - both beaut, personal fav was hot mama Cute little note included because I was having a bad day - thanks guys 💕

This is a lovely pub, a lot of people choose to go the balloon bar as it's nearby and cheaper, but i would urge people to do otherwise. Definitely pricier and apparently the cider selection iss not amazing, but a not a bad beer selection, got a pool table and a refreshing mix of local bands and acts makes it feel like a real local. Also a nice roof garden for the smokers out there.

Went out to have a few cocktails with a friend here, and very striking, tranquil atmosphere, with some light jazz playing live at the time we went in, as well as tables with candlelight, which was a very nice touch. Definitely recommend coming along to try it out.

The service was excellent and the staff were very welcoming. I can highly recommend the pizza and choice of beer.

Drinks taste great but they are very weak and even if you spend loads of money you won’t even feel tipsy

Amazing vegan pizza! I really recommend the squash one! Very tasty and probably enough for 2 people to share. Also nice beer and cocktails, all in decent prices.

Truly incredible. Just ordered from Ubereats. The dough is crispy, soft and absolutely out of this world. Everything else brilliant. Faultless.

Arrived at four to be told food wasn't until 5 which isn't on their website anywhere. They don't serve Detroit pizza, it's focaccia with toppings, not a true Detroit. Bland, poor ingredients and definitely overpriced. Staff were friendly enough but the place is dirty, badly lit and run down. Won't be returning.

We went to try "Detroit Pizza" with great hopes. Unfortunately, while the dough seemed good, the ingredients were of the lowest quality. The buratta was sour, and either it was old or it was not buratta. The cheese tasted like soft cheese mixed with cream, but it was definitely not the taste of buratta. Food quality very poor. Unfortunately, the pub is neglected, with cobwebs and dust. Staff was friendly.

Love this pub! The Detroit pizza is so tasty and great cocktails. Been here for a boogie to the live bands and there aren't many places like this in the area! So happy I found this new local!

Waiter / barman made an effort to speak to us briefly and was professional throughout Pizza - AMAZING* top marks well done Detroit style fluffy pizza with that lovely crispy cheese edge and plenty of different options to choose from very nice indeed, some of the nicest pizza I've ever had Chips were nice too Just a couple of little moans - don't skimp on those toppings too much, I think I'd be happy to pay a little more per pizza for a bit more topping Drinks - not bad could do with a few more cider options, inches is ok but it's no thatchers - North Street Cider surely??? It's a no brainer 😀 Building itself wasn't to bad by any means but could possibly do with an update/ paint /freshen up Overall a great experience good service, great food We will definitely be back - Thanks

A student pub. The roof terrace is not as glamorous as it sounds. The interior has a nice vibe if a little scruffy.

Fantastic bar! I hired the back room and terrace for a birthday party, the staff were extremely helpful when setting up and throughout the night. Great selection of cocktails!

If you don’t know this place, you’re two thousand and late. It’s a very cool vibe with funky sounds, sexy staff, cocktails to die for, authentic Detroit pizza, roof garden that relaxes, happy hour prices for hours?, (What?), Gluten free options, there are seats available, standing area available, rumours that lying down areas will be available.

Great comedy nights and Jazz music, the deep pan pizzas are great and they do a good deal on cocktails if you arrive early

I used to live in Bristol and came back for a recent visit , spent 2 occasions here and was so impressed. The food was lovely but what did it for me was the staff. They were so amazing and accommodating and could not do enough for me. I would certainly return. Thanks Barrelhouse great place and vibe. Thanks team 🙌👊😊

Stopped in for a quick pint. Beer was good and a nice cosy venue. We sat up stairs in the small beer garden for a while, which I can imagine will be a bit of a sun trap in summer. I'm told they have good comedy nights. Will go back next time I'm in the area just because I enjoyed the pint.

Found Barrelhouse by accident, loved the look of the building so decided to go in. Staff were very welcoming and found out information regarding gluten free. We decided to have lunch and a drink. Meal was really nice and well presented, although for me could have been hotter. Loved the look of the bar, cubby holes and toilets. Good vibes from the whole place. Only thing I didn't like was the 'optional' 10% service charge which was added in our case £5.95. Although I did think staff were worth it. Would I visit again, definitely.

great spot for both drinks and food. We came here to make the most of the 2 for 1 Detroit Pizzas on offer on Mondays and were chuffed with the value for money. The pizzas were the perfect size and they have a good variety of flavours. It’s very popular with students as it’s right by the SU but you get student prices for that (£3 for a Gem). We ended up going on open mic night and there always seems to be something on there. Very nice interior with cosy corners so would recommend!

The pizza is ridiculously oily and out of 8 slices 4 has no other topping than vegan cheese and a bit of tomato. the middle slices that has actual topping were nice though. One pizza feeds two, it’s very filling.

Average/below average roast dinner. Small portions, half of the food was cold and the beef was like rubber. Waitress was nice though

Absolutely stunning bar, one of Bristol's best kept secrets! Open until late, atmosphere is great (like a speakeasy in places), music is frequently live and the drinks are reasonably priced. Includes a pool table (£1) and sometimes offers screenings.

First time visit for me and really liked it. Satbon the roof terrace and enjoyed some phenomenal Rum Punch Slushies from a chilled out roof shack/bar. They had a 70s live band on downstairs too which was great. Will be back for sure.

Barrel house is a barrel of laughs i like.the vibe, seems ite there was band playing when I arrived to collect food. Will av to pop by for a pint another time. Restaurant is behind the scenes but the food smells good when I pick it up from the bar. - & I'll add, it is confusing when u arrive because there is no sign that says barrel house outside the front is just a geometric bird shaped figures n stuff but I noticed next time I went that it says BARREL HOUSE on a sign to the side of the building, it's around the corner so it's visible from the road I imagine. Lol I heard me and several other people say as we walked in: "is this is? I think is it?" Double taking , ' I recon.. must be.. ' ..maybe that is the kind of experience they are going for. . . Expect the unexpected, except for barrels. @ the barrel house.

Love this place they do a legendary quiz on a Wednesday. Ben is a legend and is always getting great feedback! I think it’s moved to a Tuesday now. The staff are always very attentive and up for a laugh too. Well run place from what I can see and a great vibe.

Great pub/venue! We visited by chance with friends and had an amazing evening. The band were really good and very entertaining. Cocktails were fantastic, we tried almost every one on the list! Barman was friendly and polite. Will definitely visit again very soon!

Ordered detroit pizza. Well topped and sauced. Just delicious. The size deceived me, thought it wouldn't be enough so I ordered 3 pizzas for 2 people. One pizza pp is definitely enough! Great food, great value for money.

Located in Gordon Road, just next to Bristol SU - Richmond Building, would consider this place as an alternative bar for Jazz Live Music. The environment is amazing, music groups are brilliant and there is an interesting variety of cocktail drinks! Food wise, there is not much to choose from, but still great to order (mind the time that kitchen closes). Staff is very friendly. It basically became a routine to go for a night out, on Jazz music festivals!

We had a late lunch here on a busy Saturday. Although the bar was extremely busy (student social event) the service was fantastic. A particular shout out to the young man who served us (sorry didn't get your name but you had green hair!). Although he was clearly very busy he was so kind, friendly and efficient, even stopping to bring biscuits for and chat to our dog! The pizzas were amazing and it's a lovely relaxed place to eat. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed!

Nice pub with a good atmosphere. Not too busy, unlike other pubs nearby. Not sure how it would be in term time though. We'll definitely go back.

On the night we drank there I think I was the oldest in but saying that it had a nice atmosphere, good music, beer and friendly staff. Pizza's looked very nice too.

Wonderful staff at this venue. Super chatty , friendly and helpful. The roast dinner and mulled wine were delicious and there wasn’t a long wait for food.

Pub is okay, not autism friendly.

This place looks deceivingly small from the front, but once you get in it is much larger. Additionally, it has a patio/garden on up the stairs and out back with a lot of great outdoor space and large tables to accommodate groups! Drinks-wise, we were there for Happy Hour on Thursday, which goes until 10pm and aside from cheap cocktails, also includes 12.50 bottles of wine.- a steal. Pizza is delicious, nice, thick bready crust and lots of sauce. Size-wise, about 2 people per pizza for a lighter meal, if you're going for dinner probably about 1.5 pizzas per 2 people. Definitely recommend.
