Barn Lane Chippy in Mansfield

The best Chippy in Mansfield in my opinion and still the best value compared to other options. Just such a shame they don't do deliveries. But an absolute gem of a chippy and I encourage you to try it you won't be disappointed. The owner is a really decent fella too.

Great chippy staff in daytime wonderful Love the lunchtime special, the fish is delicious. Won't let me recommend dishes other than fishcakes chips and peas , so can't recomend anything else!

What a lovely little chippy. I only live a few minutes away by car, and it was well worth trip. The lady behind the counter was friendly. Nice large potions and very tasty. I had a large plain sausage with chips and beans. Good value and easy parking. I will be back many times.

Came across Barn Lane Chippy, whilst driving around looking for somewhere good to eat...and this place was outstanding! The fish was big and tasty, with fantastic batter...the chips were gorgeous and a very good portion...proper home made onion rings...amazing old style curry sauce, with currants! My boyfriend had steak pie, which was home-made!! He said it was delicious. We will definitely go back, because I NEED to try the home-made cheese and onion pie!

Called on the way back from the airport and had best fish and chips ever! Massive fish cooked to perfection and also does steamed fish which i love. Would highly recommend and Spotlessly clean! All the food looks lovely.

Always very clean.Nicely prepared food and my preferred fish and chip shop in Mansfield. I sometimes call on an evening after taking my grandson home and can’t be bothered to cook.

Best chippy in the UK by far!!! Chips are always cooked to perfection, never underdone, always perfect. I normally leave a few chips as I'm not always bothered, not Big Barn Lanes! The mini fish was perfect last night too! Lovely staff, will always return to this little gem. Thanks for your service to our hungry stomachs 😁

I came Tuesday evening. Won't let me reply to your comment. I got a small chips and large sausage to be charged £4.70 when the chips was £2.10 and large sausage £1.60 which to me came to £3.70 gave her 2 £2 pound coins to her to reply it's £4.70 so chucked her another quid as they clearly need it. As seen below someone else got charged extra too. So be careful and make sure they don't over charge no matter how little. Food was horrid too.

Two cod and a large chips,i really should have been paying attention,the fish was dry the batter was soggy and the chips were soggy. £16 could have been better spent elsewhere

Superb chippy! Hand cut chips, fried to a golden brown colour. Batter is crisp and light. Friendly staff and really good prices. These are the best chips I've ever had.

I have to admit I had a large Cod and what a beautiful piece it truly was. I enjoyed it to the full. And yes the owner was extremely pleasant himself. Will definitely go there again when up that area. Bless you and thank you Geof

Waited 20 minutes for my food to be battered, when I got home they were cold and hard, the battered sausages were not edible, 100% given old sausages. Chips were tasty, just a shame they were cold.

Quite easily the best local fish & chip shop. Been coming here for over 40 years, and recently visited for the first time during this lockdown for a takeaway. Had Cod, Chips and peas - and they were superb. Cracking value for money. Big sized fish, served with lots of chips cooked just right, and proper mushy peas. Will definitely be returning again soon.

Home made pie special is delicious.

First class service staff very polite and good value for money

Always good, whether traditional fish 'n' chips or a kebab, our 'go to' chippy. So pleased with how they've dealt with the new covid restrictions, they have even put up a canopy at the front for customers to queue under whilst waiting for their turn to enter and order. The food is still the best around and my grandsons enjoy their sausages from here just as much as my own kids did twenty odd years ago.

Having just moved to the area we gave this little Gem of a family business a try and wow we wasn't disappointed, by far the best chip shop I've been to in a long while. Highly recommended

The best fish and chips we have had

This isn't our normal chippy but have started going here since it reopened after lock down.. Because our children love the food❤️ The chips were gorgeous and super fresh and according to our son they have the best cobs ever!

I've visited here a hand full of times in the past few weeks and everytime I tell myself I'm not going there again but convenience I called in again tonight. I ordered chicken meat and chips. The lady at the counter said I just need to cut some up and went In the back. Pottering from front to back the microwave pinged! I asked for it in a tray as I was eating it in the car so the portion size was less than half of the usual size for a full portion costing me £6.35 for microwave meat and chips....the meat was cold in places and the chips were burnt!

Looks a proper local chippy. Prices are average. Portion size is terrible. Kebab meat and chips, 3 strands of dry tasting kebab meat, smallest quantity of chips alongside. Chips had a bland taste and not very appetising. Really disappointed as had recommendations. Tried, tested and thumbs down. One chip shop to avoid, sorry

The food is not bad let's be clear on that. Though I have never seen Donner meat sliced so thin. Had to leave a scathing review as I'm sick of being charged different prices by different staff and I've just been told I didn't hand over enough money, when I watched her count the change I'd given and she said it wasn't enough by 70 odd pence. Threw em another quid cos they obviously need it.

I love this chippy. Excellent food. The chicken burgers have got proper chicken inside, the salad on the burger is crisp and fresh, the chips are gorgeous so are the onion rings. My husband has had the fish & the kebab which he says are both delicious

This use to be the best chip shop in Mansfield now they can’t even cook chips properly! Went this evening for a treat chips was vile uncooked and greasy as hell! Not the first time we’ve been disappointed with it just lately. It’s like the staff ain’t bothered all they want is ya money! Will not be going again

Tried this chippy twice now, in fact drive past two others to get there. The chips are definitely the best. Disappointed by the battered sausage I had first time, enjoyed the chilli this time (bit too mild). Scored 4* as portion sizes are small, otherwise 4.5*

You can expect great service at Barn Lane Chippy, from really lovely staff. We've been customers for about 30 years! They have an extensive menu to choose from, as well as the delicious fish & chips. The batter on the large fish, mini fish, sausages, potato fritters etc is light & crispy. They do chicken fillet burgers with salad & mayo - a real feast! There are beef burgers, gorgeous fishcakes, 4 varieties of pies, including their specials of home made mince, chips & mushy peas; shepherds pie, steak pie, cheese & onion pie. They also do donner kebabs, large plain sausages, small battered or non-battered sausages, fried chicken - the list is endless & includes extra items like coleslaw, gravy, baked beans, & cobs. There is roadside parking, but please don't park over anyone's driveway. You can now also pay for your food by card. Certainly a chippy to be recommended. Why not give it a try!

Always nice food for a chippy treat though sometimes there's quite a wait for fish on a Friday in particular. I suppose at least it's fresh out of the fryer.
