Bardo St James's in City of London, Westminster

One of my favorite restaurants in London. Excellent food. The staff is all Italian and extremely gracious. The pasta dishes are some of the best I have ever had. The meats are excellent. Entertainers excellent.

EXTREMELY expensive, especially when you consider how bad the food was. 42 pounds for a truffle pasta and 38 pounds for a ragu pasta is absolutely absurd unless you are delivering incredible tasting. Both dishes lacked any sort of taste or balance of flavours. Do not waste your money unless you are going for the atmosphere. Go to Lina stores or Bancone and pay a 10th of the price for 10 times the quality!.

It is an elegant place, with delicious food and a pleasant atmosphere with live music. In addition, the place is beautiful. @nerea.iglesiasss

We were in their semi-private area for a corporate event so difficult to say what it would have been like in the main area. A truly high-end Italian place with great service, not bad cocktail menu and live music. Like in any place with live music - tricky to have a conversation unless you shout - but the breaks are frequent. They have probably one of the most expensive wine list in town, which is understandable so prepare your wallet if you’re up for the full experience.

The dinner was delightful. I’ve celebrated my 3 years anniversary with my girlfriend and from start to finish we had a great experience. The live music was amazing and the quality of the food is not less. Worth every pound. We will be back. Also thank you Vito for looking after us.

I had an extremely disappointing experience at this restaurant. The customer service was absolutely terrible. The lack of professionalism and basic courtesy made the entire visit unpleasant. I would not recommend this place to anyone looking for a positive dining experience.

avoid. we were overcharged by £47 for our meal and it took 2 days of back and forth to force bardo to issue a refund. we were also hit with an additional £10 cost per person just to cut and eat the cake we brought in.

I called 48 hours to cancel the booking as my gf had food poisoning. No one answers the phone two days in a row. I finally reach them and the manager won’t allow the cancellation fee to be refunded saying that it’s highly unlikely they won’t answer the phone and it’s my fault as I could have emailed them. Super bad customer service and not accommodating at all. They said they “could not do anything” but then was only willing to give us credits to be used within 2 weeks but were travelling. It’s a complete lie as if there was nothing they could do then how could they give us credits.

The Music and general atmosphere is an absolute delight. A very romantic restaurant indeed. The food is quite average.

Very expensive with low quality of food!! I ordered Stake and was not good at all!! We were 6 friends and all of us didn’t like the food and service. When we asked for the bill they charged us 28 pounds on the music they had. We had to ask them to remove it. Didn’t like it at all and I don’t recommend to go!!

A very classy restaurant, but not pompous with wonderful atmosphere. The seating is very comfortable with options. The service : -simply impeccable- The food : A lot of choice without compromising in quality. Distinct flavours with high-quality ingredients. The dishes engage all senses - taste and smell ! Gourmet dishes but the portions are just right to satisfy. Good choice of wines. Very impressive knowing it is located in a touristy area of London. Definitely one to keep in my book of “great restaurants “ Not cheap but it is central London and overall it is worth it !

Update on this review: I WAS TOLD TO EMAIL TO SOLVE MY PROBLEM BUT THEY DON’T RESPOND, THEY DON’T CARE ABOUT CUSTOMER NONSATISFIED, THEY DON’T REPLY! For the price i was expecting something special but it was just very ordinary food which i personally didn’t like my fish at all, ambience wasn’t bad but the band didn’t play that much as i expected, service wasn’t bad but a bit too much standing on top of your table made me uncomfortable, to be honest i paid £182 for 2 people but it wasn’t worth it , i expected a lot more"

I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with the experience I had at your restaurant yesterday. We are not very fluent in English and it was our first time visiting your restaurant. I felt that the staff could sense this, yet they spoke in rapid, Italian-accented English, without making an effort to help us understand. Additionally, a cloth-wrapped item was served on the same plate as the dish. Since it was our first time ordering this dish, I thought it might be food wrapped inside, and attempted to open it. At that moment, a staff member loudly pointed out that it was a wrapped lemon. While I have seen lemons served this way before, having it on the same plate was very confusing, and the loud correction made me feel embarrassed. I found this to be very poor service etiquette. We were dining before a show, so we decided to limit our drinks to just one glass each of champagne and white wine to avoid getting sleepy. However, a staff member loudly questioned, “Without wine?” and gave us a disdainful look when we explained our reason. When we asked about the types of sorbet available, the staff seemed unaware and gave no explanation. While the food was delicious, the staff’s rude behavior made the experience very unpleasant. Though it may be a high-end restaurant, the staff’s attitude was highly inappropriate and not befitting of a luxury establishment. This is why I am posting this review.

Dined here yesterday for the pre-theatre meal. Food for the most part was great although some dishes felt a little bland and lacking 'something'. Service was not great. With only 2 other parties dining at the same time we were placed directly next to them including a large group of very loud people. During the meal whilst our food was on the table they lifted the table and moved it to give them more walking space, when there were 30+ other tables across the restaurant they could have sat us at instead. At the beginning of the meal we were asked if we wanted "complimentary bread" with the word "complimentary" being said at least 3 times. At the time of the bill I see £5 added for the bread. I mentioned discreetly as my partner was in the bathroom that this was mentioned as complimentary but if it's not that's okay and I'll pay. He removed it from the bill and came back when my partner returned to loudly mention that it's up to me to ask about the bread and that due to the long process of making the bread they do not offer it for free. Was also told that "they will do fine even if one gentleman does not pay for their bread". No matter how many times I mentioned that I was told it was complimentary and that I am happy to pay if it was a mistake on my comprehension I was told the same condescending sentence. For a place that looks so nice and with great food, the service is lacking. Won't be coming back or recommending anyone here. £100+ for 2 courses 2 people without a drink (£14 of water - 2 bottles). Editing after the restaurant's response: The problem isn't the charge. It's the comments made afterwards which implied a stinginess/incapability on my side of being able to pay for £5 bread. Whether I should have to or not, given that it was mentioned as complimentary, is besides the point. What restaurant tells a customer that they won't shut down if one gentleman doesn't pay for their bread?

Celebrated my partner’s 30th birthday here, and we had the most amazing time. The restaurant itself is gorgeous, the service impeccable. I am Italian and I was so impressed by the food, even just the vegetables were super fresh and delicious. My fav dish was the tagliatelle all’astice - they blew me away! I really appreciated that they brought us a dessert on a plate that said “happy bday” without me having to say anything on the night, and we even got limoncello on the house. We will definitely be back!

Our server Vito, was not only knowledgeable about the menu, but also every recommendation he made, was spot-on. Bardo St James's is more than just a place to eat; it's a destination for those who appreciate the art of a fine dinning. Every aspect, from the ambiance to the service and, most importantly the food, was executed with perfection.

Visited with my partner for a romantic meal. We were treated so well and had the most fantastic food. I felt like I was back in Italy! You must try the polenta. The live music adds to the magical atmosphere. A hidden gem in the heart of theatre land.

I’ve been to Bardo for an early dinner before the theatre with a friend. We both absolutely loved our experience! As both of us are big fans of Italian food, I can say it was one of the best I had in London (and my friend agrees too). The polenta is to die for, never had a better one! Then we had ravioli cacio e pepe and veal Milanese, we finished with Tiramisu (of course). So delicious! Our waiter was very attentive, my wine glass was always full so thank you! I had even more fun at the theatre. The ambience of Bardo is intimate and if you want to feel like back in time it’s a place on the must-visit list. Can’t wait to come back and thank you for making our evening so memorable.

Had a wonderful time and food at Bardo st James. Service was second to none. Warm, friendly and efficient without being intrusive. Never had to call for service. Glad to have been introduced to a great dining spot close to the theatre. Flavourful and delicious with homely service. Make sure to save space for desserts.

From the moment we walked into this beautiful Italian restaurant, we were greeted with impeccable service and warm hospitality that set the tone for an unforgettable dining experience. The scallop appetizer was a delightful start, with perfectly seared scallops that were tender and full of flavor. Equally impressive was the white asparagus and squid appetizer. Amazing ! I came for my boyfriend’s birthday celebrations and I must say I haven’t experienced such a high quality service in a long time. The waiters are very educated in every detail of the menu which really helped me to select food perfect for my taste buds (I hate to say I forgot my waiters name because he was incredible!). Honestly the ‘ravioli cacio e Pepe’ was easily one of the best and flavourful meals I’ve had in my life, it’s to die for ! 10/10. I’m excited to visit again!

Entering past a watchful doorman we took the elevator to the basement restaurant and were impressed by the decor of the room, the large elegant bar, and the service attitude of the employees. But we were not impressed by any aroma of a great Italian cuisine nor the sound level, even though the restaurant was made 10% occupied at 18:30H and the bar was empty - it was a Tuesday night. Seated, we enjoyed a cocktail and observed the room - which did not seem to have any character. There was no leading personality of what essentially is a night club setting and the solo guitarist/vocalist was not impressive - the staff w ere attentive but one sensed that they were going through the motions. The Panzanella di Verdure was uninteresting but both the Crudo di Ricciola and the Branzino were well prepared from fresh ingredients and well presented. At $160 a head were not impressed and had anticipated more - essentially we had hoped that there would be a personality of the room - but it was blah.

Lovely venue with amazing food. All the staff were very welcoming and hospitable - especially Venjo and Jeremiah who took good care of us. Will visit again.

Great service and atmosphere. We came here on a saturday evening at 9pm and there was live music throughout the evening until 11:30pm - there is a discretionary £3.50 pp charge for this but I thought it was well worth it! The food was lovely we had the duck breast and the beef ragu and both were cooked well. Desserts were stunning, and the restaurant provided a small cake and candle for a birthday treat. After dinner we were invited to the bar/club which is open till 2am and the music and vibes were cool.

Incredible dinner! Between the carpaccio which was the best I have eaten in my life, the burrata of incomparable freshness, Perfect seasoning for each dish. I highly recommend if you want to eat a semi-Italian gastro in a setting worthy of the film Goodfellas.

We had a the pre theatre menu. The food was good but not unexpected. The server serving us was very attentive. We were most impressed with the atmosphere and vibe! The only let down was that we booked the place for 5:30pm. Arrived 10 mins early, door was locked, no one was at the door. So we waited outside in the rain until 5:30, still no staff attended us, we called the restaurant to let them know we are outside. A staff member came out but not to attend us, did not let us in and we continued waiting another 10 mins. For this reason I have given this experience an overall (generous) 3 star.

Gorgeous spot for a special occasion, lovely live music with a great jazzy singer. The food was delicious, Italian with some twists. Expensive wine list, starting from approx £65 and cocktails from £20.

Food was excellent and the service was really attentive. We had a really delicious bottle of white wine which the waiter expertly made sure lasted the whole meal. I tend to guzzle it so the restraint was appreciated - Especially considering I was about to sit in a theatre for two uninterrupted hours with no interval. The tempura courgette flower and bresaola were both great starter choices. The latter was very generous so you could easily share that with bread. We shared a really delicious burnt butter ravioli for the pasta course and I’d highly recommend it. Nice and rich but not overwhelming. Herb crusted lamb was generously sized and really tasty. Snuck a chunk of duck from my partners plate and it was delicious too. Went well with the spicy potatoes and spinach sides. Went for a special occasion, mind, as it was quite expensive - so unless you’re swimming in the cash I’d advise against making it a weekly thing (which I would do because the food is THAT good) but alas, I’m not. We went at 5:30pm on a Friday and it was quite quiet, still a great atmosphere, but the live music was setting up around the time we were heading out at 7:15, so if you’re wanting the full experience I’d opt for a later time slot. We finished off with an affogato type dessert - I forget the name, but it was incredible. Big enough to share given the feast we had beforehand. Full transparency it was over £300 in all but as I said, special occasion. Highly, highly, recommend!

Found this gem of a blues bar accidentally! Sat at the bar and had some most delicious cocktails ever! Great selection of spirits and very knowledgeable bartender made the whole experience even better. Will be back for sure!

Beautiful, atmospheric restaurant. The live music was a lovely touch, and the service was very prompt, if a little too fast paced, but not to the point where we felt rushed. I think the food was very good (yellow tail is a must try) but perhaps the price point felt slightly inflated. I would like to return midweek for the tasting menu!

I've been to Bardo a few times already and always a great choice. Great atmosphere with the live music throughout dinner, nice Italian food and welcoming staff. After dinner, there is a bar in a separate room with a DJ.

One of the finest Italian dining experiences in London. No wonder celebrities dine here... and a few were spotted last night! I thoroughly enjoyed the high quality authentic Italian cuisines complemented by excellent live music. The wine options were outstanding, and the cellar left a lasting impression. Indulging in the Ferrero dessert was delightful! The lounge exudes sophistication, making it a premier destination in the city with its elegant decor, exquisite flavors and captivating music.  Very much looking forward to frequenting the establishment again!

Best fine Italian in London. I loved the lobster asparagus, the tartufo pizza and the Casio e Pepe pasta accompanied by great live music. The wine selection was awesome and the cave really impressed me. The salted caramel profiterole and the Ferrero dessert were awesome! The lounge is fantastic and definitely a top destination in town with a classy decoration, great taste and great music.

There’s a thrill as you descend, from the busy streets of St James’s, down the stairs, and emerge into the glamorous dining room of Bardo’s. The interiors are all soft, clean furnishings, and tables laid with red warm lights. In the heart of the room, a live music band is enhancing the atmosphere. Starting with the reception, they made us feel like Michelin inspectors. Great service throughout the whole journey, being served by John, who anticipated, understood and surpassed our needs and expectations. And the food? It delivers. The harmony of the flavours and mastery of the cooking techniques are simplified in every single bite. Great date night! We will definitely return!

Pre-theater set menu is 3 courses for £47 from Monday to Saturday. Great deal and an amazing meal! Tried Vitello tonnato and fish. Definitely the BEST TIRAMISU in London. Very beautiful, romantic ambience and decor, perfect for a date night. Loved the live music and staff was super polite and friendly. Highly recommend this place!

This’s a place where you go and rexplore true magical Italian food with spectacular freshness and deep flavors, it’s a true paradise of Italian food like never before. We had the most delicious and leanest carpaccio you can ever imagine then followed with lobster past which’s one of a kind with rich flavor and well cooked pasta, we even order a pasta pomodoro which’s basic anywhere but here it’s super delicious and rich in taste. This’s the food to truly say to die for!

Great food as anticipated from any fine dining restaurant though clear mark up on drinks and wasn't too pleased having to pay for live music within the bill despite a generous service bill already given for a group of 5. The weekday tasting menu is clearly better value.

Tasty, but expensive drinks in a classy atmosphere. There was also a live band playing that looked like a Jazz band at first. Their repertoire was rather centered around Schlager music, however.

Pre-theatre dinner close to Theatre Royal Haymarket. Pre-theatre menu is only available until 6 but we were allowed some leeway. Beautiful interior, well presented food, great cocktails and attentive staff. Quite expensive though - 2 courses with a cocktail, glass of wine and water came to £100 a head including service

My favorite is their Schnitzel -- one of the best in London. Great all around with a fantastic wine selection. Just try to avoid Saturday evening as it will be packed and hectic as hell.

Our Experince was amazing! While waiting for a table, we sat at the bar and the cocktails we ordered was exquisite and elevated! The foods are mouth- watering and the staffs are very attentive, friendly and helpful. And the ambiance was perfect while enjoying the live music. Highly recommended and we’ll be back again soon.

I made a booking at Bardo for this evening and due to a medical emergency I tried to make some changes to the reservation 30+ hours in advance. Bearing in mind I physically would not be able to attend as I was not able to be in the country due to health reasons, I told them I can provide a doctor’s note but there was no care on her side. The person on the phone was the rudest person I have ever encountered. She had an awful attitude from answering the phone, told me not to interrupt her whilst she was talking and put the phone down on me. Cancelling the reservation on her own accord, she then proceeded to charge the deposit of £250 to the bank card on the booking, 30 hours prior to the reservation. This is not part of their booking terms. I haven’t cancelled and that representative should not be speaking to customers in such shape or form. I have been to Bardo numerous times and never been treated in such a manner. I requested to speak to the manager but that was denied. Will not be coming back and wouldn’t recommend. Awful customer service.

What a memorable experience I had during my visit at Bardo, a fine dining restaurant sitting just at the heart of London. The overall atmosphere and ambience of the restaurant which includes the decor and physical layout was everything I ever wanted in a restaurant. Well dedicated staff who know what is takes to meet the expectations of the guest, blended with the sound of live music making the moment an unforgottable experience. The food was top notch and we literally felt like it was Italy in London. Cocktail was classically prepared by some professionals and every cocktail was unique and different from what I ever tried elsewhere. We will surely return to Bardo soon as our first visit created an indelible experience that would bring us back millions of times.

Amazing service: booked a table online 5mins before our arrival and there wasn't an issue at all upon our arrival. The front of house staff were very welcoming and accommodating. I had the signature short rib Ragu which genuinely was melt in the mouth. It was a toss up between this and the veal Ragu, but the waiter suggested the former as it's a signature dish of theirs. My partner had the Ravioli, with leeks and brown butter, which was also very tasty. We only had a couple of glasses of wine but would definitely recommend the pinot noir. The service was great and they were very attentive, the only small issue is that a side we had ordered (broccoli) didn't arrive, which we hadn't realised until half way through the main courses.

We went to Bardo's for my wife's milestone birthday dinner and had a very enjoyable evening. The food, service and ambiance were superb. Also, the complimentary dessert was a thoughtful gesture.

What a vibe!!! I had the most wonderful time in Bardo. The atmosphere is so welcoming and that’s only for starters! The service is impeccable and the food is absolutely delicious and it’s going to take you on a journey of flavours! We had tagliolini al tartufo, black cod and pumpkin and everything was incredible. We were so lucky to see a fantastic band, the music was perfect and the singer absolutely amazing. Overall and incredible vibe, I didn’t want to leave!

We visited Bardo, my Wife and I on Saturday. We absolutely loved our meal. The entertainment was great and the service was impeccable. Fully fully recommend the Veal Milanese and Lobster linguine. All the flavours very fresh! Make sure you get the momento dessert. Well worth the wait and price!

It is most unfriendly place especially the manager treat people so badly by using rude manner to Asian people , music kept broken down . Food taste is not good as it charged too much , strongly recommended NOT coming again. Lights is so dark as you have to use phone light to read it , It is not worth for any celebration or family party place to try at all .

Having travelled extensively to Italy and experienced both homemade and restaurant food there, I have really been struggling to find an Italian restaurant in London that offers authentic Italian food made with high-quality ingredients. Bardo definitely lived up to and exceeded my expectations. Among other things, I chose it due to its wide selection of seafood dishes — the capesante gratinate and tagliatelle all’astice were fantastic. The cotoletta alla Milanese was also excellent. Moreover, the outstanding presentation of the dishes definitely made a difference to us. The decor is elegant but not extravagant, very tasteful. The live music perfectly complements it and enriched our experience. Its volume was optimal. Service was commendable from start to finish. We particularly appreciated the staff’s great attention to detail. Luca also made us feel very at ease and significantly improved our experience.

it was my birthday, and the waiter in charge of us said we would get a round of shots on the house. when the bill came, he pretended to have forgotten this, and proceeded to call for his manager who cam and flippantly told me that there are over 30 birthdays a night and when he asked the staff, nobody said they did this which was a straight up lie. the food was very average as well. nothing spectacular , ive had better pasta at lena stores for a quarter the price. i would avoid and stick to regular mayfair restaurants.

Excellent food and excellent service. We booked our reservation from the US months in advance and we were very excited and the food and service did not disappoint. HOWEVER, once we finished our meal, we were “encouraged to immediately vacate our table and move to the bar.” There were numerous open tables so this was a ridiculous request and absolutely unnecessary! We spent well over 500 for 2 people and having us be pushed to vacate tainted an amazing experience with the food and the staff when there were so many open tables with no one waiting for a table. Silly and unnecessary for such a high end experience.

Fantastic meal this weekend at Bardo St James. Superb food, great service, wonderful setting and excellent overall value for our experience. We went for pre Theatre dinner, and were disappointed to be leaving as the live music was just about to start. We will certainly be back.

Amazing food. The pasta could not be better. Immaculate service. We had the pre theatre menu (wise financial choice) but missed out on the band which would have been a fantastic experience.

Great fine restaurant. Delishes food and nice service with live music. Large selection of fine wine and cocktails. If you are looking for fine dining around Buckingham Palace / Trafalgar Square this is your place! Highly recommend! Great for celebrating a birthday or a special occasions. John looked after us very well and we enjoyed our Dinner.

Erg slechte ervaring met het restaurant. Wij hadden een reservering staan en wilde die annuleren vanwege privé omstandigheden. Aantal keer gebeld waar niet op werd gereageerd. Wanneer we eindelijk iemand aan de lijn kregen werd ons verteld dat er 50 pond per persoon zou worden belast voor annuleringskosten omdat het niet 48uur van te voren is geannuleerd. Volgens de mevrouw aan de lijn worden de annuleringsvoorwaarden in de bevestigings mail beschreven. Echter is dit niet goed aangegeven als je de reservering maakt. Wij hadden de reservering een dag van te voren gemaakt. Dit betekent dus dat je eigenlijk niet kan annuleren mocht je binnen die 48 uur reserveren. Het is erg jammer dat je als restaurant zo je geld moet verdienen. Vijftig pond per persoon betekende voor ons dus gewoon 100 pond voor niks! Dit kan echt niet! Erg teleurstellend en een bederving van een vakantie.
