Beautiful shopping precinct. But I see more empty places than I did 19 months ago. I do not want to see another Newcastle for example. But the metro feels a safe place to shop. Plenty security washroom facilities and being an old man in bad health nice seating. And kept very clean and always smells fresh. A free carpark with over 10,000 places in my opinion is the reason for going there. I have lived in other cities and towns that I would never shop in. Preston Lancashire is an example that I lived there for 11 years. Also Bolton never any where to park without ending up with a parking ticket. And my home city Manchester.

Haven't been for years but, had to have an MRI at the new diagnostic centre there. On our way back to the car park, going through the food court, we decided to eat at the Chinese buffet. Had a great time and staff are super friendly. On the plus side, across from the Chinese buffet is a Korean restaurant. Our daughter would love to go to. So roll on the next school holiday.

The last two visits have been horrible, not enough security staff to deal with all the young teenagers walking around swearing, spitting and being disrespectful. Don’t feel safe there anymore so won’t be returning, a group of teenagers who were running almost wiped out my eight year old daughter today, not one security guard in sight.

The Metrocentre is one of the UK's largest shopping malls and holds a National Health Service diagnostic centre. With a cinema complex, food and drink businesses as well as shops it offers a multifaceted place to spend time. Interestingly, it opened as the Metro Centre and rebranded as the Metrocentre. I wonder how much the rebranding project cost to remove the space.

site_logo

St Art . 2024-12-27

MORE AT Google

Once Europe's biggest shopping mall, it is now light years behind competitors like the Westfield Malls in London. A number of units are empty, and many brands you'd find in other shopping malls in larger cities just aren't there. This means a relatively limited choice and many of the units that are open are filled with down market shops - nail salons, pound shops, barbers, shops that never seem to have any customers in and yet mysteriously remain open, and there are no fewer than four branches of Greggs in the centre, but no branches of food chains which are common elsewhere like Itsu, Wasabi or Leon. There also seems to have been an increasing problem with gangs of feral kids, particularly during school holidays, and seeing security guards chase them round near the bus station is not an uncommon sight. It's the story of a lot of Britain's high streets, but it all looks particularly odd in a shopping mall. Whether the new owners can turn things around remains to be seen, but it seems that the Metrocentre is already in the process of being repurposed with the introduction of things like the NHS centres. You're left with the impression that a large part of the Metrocentre may be a housing estate within a decade or so.

I recently visited the MetroCentre in Newcastle to watch a movie at the Odeon cinema. Unfortunately, my experience was less than enjoyable, and it's unlikely that I will be returning anytime soon. Upon arriving at the MetroCentre, I found the car park to be overcrowded and difficult to navigate. The signage was confusing, making it challenging to find a parking spot and locate the cinema. This added unnecessary stress to what should have been a fun outing. Once inside, I found the Odeon cinema to be very expensive compared to other movie theatres in the area. This, coupled with the already frustrating parking situation, left a sour taste in my mouth. Despite the wide range of shops and dining options available at the MetroCentre, the overall experience was marred by the confusing layout and high prices. While the mall's color-coded zones are meant to make navigation easy, I still found it difficult to find my way around, and the information booths and interactive maps did not offer much help. In conclusion, while the MetroCentre may have a lot to offer in terms of shopping and entertainment, the crowded car park, confusing signage, and high cinema prices detract from the overall experience. I will likely explore alternative options for future outings.
