Bar Maroc in Kirklees

Edit December 2023: The venue has been closed down with an emergency health notice. After many years going very regularly, it seems Bar Maroc are having difficulties to remain well stocked and well attended :( Visited twice in recent times and card machine not working, drinks selection very limited, no fizzy drinks (or was advised the non-alcoholic draughts would be pretty flat), ran out of juice and pizzas quickly, no more marinated olives. Not sure if it's the summer hols or students being away but the venue was pretty empty. It's a real shame as this is really a unique institution in Huddersfield. Hopefully only a temporary difficult period for the venue 🙏🏼

I discovered Bar Maroc about 5 years ago. I come to Huddersfield most years for the Contemporary Music Festival. That's how I discovered Bar Maroc. I go to Maroc as a bar. It does do food and I've heard the pizza is fantastic. You enter Bar Maroc through what looks like a back entrance to a shopping mall. You go up some industrial stairs, wondering what you might find. You're enter into a place with a distinct middle east vibe. A great subtly lit irregular shaped space with a lovely ambience. Great staff. I use it for a drink, or two, between concerts and, sometimes, a night cap. It's open quite late and would be a super place for a few drinks with friends.

Nice pizzas and the staff were friendly, but we waited nearly two hours for our food.

Fairly quiet environment. Decorated thematically. Staff was helpful and pizza big, thin, crunchy and tasty. But be aware - only vegan options! My cider wasn't very cold but when I asked for ice they did offer some. Fairly good value for money. They also have a carpark. The best part is that they are open till late and offer food after hours when many pubs don't. For this alone they get 5* - open till 11pm on weekdays usually and up to 2 or 3am weekends. The infrastructure of seating isn't the comfiest but you have to find your spot :)

Who knew houmous on pizza would be that good?! Decent priced pizza and cocktails, cosy lounge seating on the terrace upstairs. A little run down and the staff are a bit too casual. But the pizzas were delicious and the cocktails were pretty yummy too. I’d go again just for the houmous pizza honestly. Probably better in classic Moroccan moody lighting at night!

Great vegetarian pizza place and bar with a chilled vibe. Love to just sit and chat with people here.

Very Dark inside, a few more lights on would be good. !! Nice staff, decent atmosphere, the beer was in the upper price scale. But not a bad place at all. Definitely worth a visit.

Bar Maroc does amazing cocktails and incredible vegan pizzas. My order tends to be a White Russian with a hummus/feta/olive pizza - do not sleep on hummus as a pizza topping, it works so well! Service tends to be fairly slow, but I think that's because it's a really relaxed atmosphere, and - to be honest - I'd rather that then quick service but worse food and drink. Always recommend going here if you haven't before!

Very disappointing. I used to love Bar Maroc but half the drinks selection wasn't available and there weren't enough staff on this occasion.

Maroc used to be our favourite venue a few years ago with a busy but relaxed vibe and great drink selection. These days the atmosphere has gone... Saturday at 6pm and the bar is unusually quiet, no candles lit on the tables, over an hour wait for two pizzas and we had to ask where they were at which point they started making them, no apology, no cutlery or napkins provided, the toilets were absolutely disgusting with broken loo roll holders and no paper towel to dry hands. What a shame, the standards have clearly disappeared as have the complimentary olives...

Nice cocktails, affordable pizza. One of the few places in Huddersfield you could take your mistress to and not have her leave you for another married man.

Pizzas are amazing, tasty and big portions! They serve the wide range of cocktails although they don't seem to follow the original cocktail recipes so they aren't that good

Waited 40mins for a round of drinks. Needed to leave for train journey home, agreed refund however never received. Avoid these days....

Great little chill bar/longue. Really like this place. They do lovely vegetarian restaurants. It's quite big, but warm. There is a carpark on the top level. Nice cocktails. It is a little worn now and service was... Maybe a tiny bit too chilled out? But nothing at all to complain about , just a small note on that. Still, a great place to go if you want to have a peaceful place to grab a drink and be able to have conversation.

Bought a pizza for £7. Absolute bargain. Its probably the best pizza you'll get in Huddersfield.

Fabulous relaxed place. Lovely staff and good drinks selection. Don't go wanting food fast as they are very honest about their tiny kitchen, but it's well worth the wait ❤️

A few years ago this was very good but went back to see how it was. Had to order my drinks again as they never came and after over a 3 hour wait for my pizza and it was wrong

Amazing place. They make the best pizza I've had... Like ever! And at a really good price. Great selection of craft beers, real ales and major brand draft too.

The drinks were really good, and the pizzas were great, the waiting time for the pizzas is quite excessive once busy, about two hours, which for it's only food item is a long time, however the staff are really friendly and the drinks are fairly quick, I'd definitely recommend if you enjoy marocan vibes, the inside is very cosey and homey

Having been before and loved it I thought going back would be great. But it wasn't..the beer was flat and awful, the service was slow and rude and there was over an hour to wait for pizza. Plus the staff could not seem to locate the person that makes the pizza. It's a shame because usually it's so good here.

Beautiful little gaff. Lovely pizza, good selection of drinks and some wonderful staff. Bar Maroc and Small Seeds (music venue downstairs) should be a staple for anybody visiting Huddersfield. Always a wheely good time 👍

Nice relaxed bar tucked away in a dull part of town. Build your pizzas and a generous and affordable cocktail menu. I was a big fan of the tequila sunrise! Also has a lovely roof terrace, perfect for summer evenings.

Absolutely love this place. They allow dogs in too which is brill. The pizzas are to die for and they do to takeaway too if you fancy eating at home instead.

Good atmosphere, tasty pizzas with original flavour, selection of hot herbal beverages - I did enjoy marocan mint tea. Friendly personel. Go and check for yourself :)

A true hidden gem. Peaceful, tranquil and safe. You feel like you've stepped into a stylish tent in Morocco or Turkey. Very zen.

Went for a friend's birthday meal. 6 of us. 2 guests got there pizza. While the rest of us waited over 45 minutes for ours. My order was not what I ordered. To be told it was. You couldn't have got it more wrong. So ended up sitting and watching friends eat. Did get a refund. Nothing in a way of apologies. Would not go back as a really bad experience.

Staff and atmosphere are brilliant. Pizzas are absolutely fantastic. Yes, they take a while to arrive but sit back and soak up the atmosphere whilst you wait (def worth waiting for, the best pizza I have had outside of Italy). Absolutely recommend.

Most amazing fresh veg pizzas in town

My friend took me here last night for the very first time, it truly was the best pizza I have ever eaten!, and I was married to an Italian! who often his own!! I will be returning. for sure.

We always love Bar Maroc. Almost hidden away! First time we have been since before the pandemic and we were the only ones booked in (through there website). Everything just as delicious and great value still. Hope it is busier for them in evenings and weekends.

Nice bar. We went on a Sunday evening so it was pretty quiet but the vibe was good. We sat up on the roof and enjoyed the pizzas and drinks. All the food here is vegetarian and it definitely draws an alternative kind of scene. They also do things like free yoga and tai chi classes during the week. Unfortunately the outdoor lighting didn't seem to work so we were left in the dark after sundown. Other than that, I intend to go back as I really enjoyed the comfortable atmosphere here.

It’s a nice, relaxed atmosphere with plenty of comfy sofa style lounge beds to sit/lay on and relax. There’s your standard tables and booths also. We had a pizza each and they were amazing! Really crispy and delicious. It’s very studenty, however there were a variety of people of different ages in there relaxing. Will 100% be returning in the future.

Amazing as usual. Literally the most chilled out place ever and pizzas are just as great as I remember them.

One of our favourite bars in Huddersfield. Excellent veggie pizzas. Good cocktails, although often quite sweet so if you like your mojito not to sweet ask for less sugar. They have a games cupboard too so a great place to spend an evening.

The pizza was amazing😍! I found the atmosphere was great and so were the staff. I will definitely be returning🙂. A point of critique would be that the toilets were not very clean, but I consider this a minor detail.

Nice food, far too cold in the restaurant

Terrible service. We ordered Pizza at 6:45 and it did not arrive until 8:10. The people who arrived at the same time as we did, ate in a leisurely manner and left 30 minutes before our food arrived. There didn't seem to be anyone in charge and no-one took any responsibility. Something went badly wrong but the staff were barely interested. After about 55 minutes we politely asked if we had been forgotten. I think we had been, but we were just told it was being prepared now with no explanation. It finally arrived 30 minutes later, along with a half hearted apology, but only after a second more irritated enquiry. The pizza was tasty but I would have enjoyed it a lot more if it had arrived 45 minutes earlier. I am not an unreasonable person, but waiting an hour and 25 minutes for Pizza is too long, especially when you see others, who arrived long after you, receiving theirs.

Come here a lot, lately they've hire new staff which are sometimes flat out rude with customers at the bar over minor mistakes, or them trying to be helpful and they get shut down by staff. Also the prices keep going up and up, and it isn't a good deal as much anymore.

Friendly service and fairly good build your own pizza.

Used to come here all the time for the pizza and cocktails. It's not as cheap as what it used to be but that's not really their fault. However I find some of the staff arragant and pretentious. It's still a great place with a good vibe and nice furnishings.

Awesome atmosphere, the hangout on the roof is my favourite! Good choice of beers and spirits, definitely my favourite place to drink

Surprisingly has a good selection of ales and cocktails and the pizzas are brilliant, just a bit dingey inside and the wait for food can be long if you catch it at the wrong time

Used this place for a central place in Huddersfield to meet up with ex class friend (Class of 84) that would not be too noisy as we are all getting on a bit - chilled & relaxed although the entrance can be easily missed as it looks like a fire exit

My son, is in uni near here, & kept raving about it, he wasn't wrong, it was definitely a hidden gem, pizza was lovely, staff were great, service spot on.

Nice, chilled out place.They have a few vegan beers and I'll be back to try out the vegan pizzas. It's a bit dark, so the ideal place for a first date if you've got a face like a bag of spanners.

Nice vibe -good pizza -did take pizza took ages to come but well worth it. Note restaurant just add the garlic by default because my mates pizza was awful who had it without.

The best place in Huddersfield for a cosy, relaxed drink and a wind-down, particularly if it's getting late in the day. They also have vegetarian pizzas that are verging on legendary around the town.

It attacts a lot of noisy Sixformers, but they give you free olives, and they seem to make the pizzas till the cows come home. They always have local beer, and although it's a bit pricey it's worth it for the atmosphere. I've never done hashish in Marrakech, but I imagine it's a bit like stuffing your face with Vegan pizza holding a pint of Small World beer at 1.30 in the morning in Bar Maroc

Moroccan themed pub popular with student. Well decorated. Has a nice outdoor area. Serves great vegetarian pizza.
