Bar Italia in City of London, Westminster

Horrible welcome from the owner. I went with my partner at 9 at night and, in a rude and senseless way (with free tables) it left us standing and with a clear feeling that we were superfluous. A restaurant to avoid. The welcome to a restaurant is part of their service and it seems that they do not understand it. I'm sorry to say it's pathetic. There are many very good Italian restaurants in Torre del Mar (including several right next door) so much better to avoid the arrogance of these people and look for alternatives.

Bar Italia was revealed to me by a good friend (who knows all the spots). I’m grateful to find this gem! It’s a crossover from New York meets Italy and it landed in London. PRO: - In the heart of Soho - Legit Italian coffee (we had latte and cappuccino). - Expensive made-to-order coffee (see pic of Gaggia machine which probably should come with air conditioning and mag wheels for the price) - Quirky old school feel - Italian dessert - Real food like pizza, pasta and panini - Breakfast - Pizza made to order - Alcohol - I’m hoping … mom and pop shop? Looks and feels like inside and with the food - Small outdoor patio CON: - In the middle of Soho which I love but is bustling past 12PM - Small shop - Scarce sitting SUMMARY: I’ll always support mom and pop shops. However, this one I think is best on weekdays and before noon if you want to avoid the crowds.

My mother and I dined in at around 9:30 pm last night. I ordered the truffle fries with Parmesan and my mother ordered the fries without Parm. The fries were good going down, but everything went downhill once we got back to our hotel. We both got food poisoning and spent the entire night vomiting. I’m not sure if the truffle oil was rancid, but we both suffered the entire night/morning. Unfortunately would not recommend.

Rude lady cashier,cold and not tasty coffee I'm sure that the owner of this place, which we have been going to for years and recommend it to everyone, has changed, because I have never seen such terrible coffee or tiramisu anywhere else in my life. In one word, it is disgusting. I will never go again.

You order at the bar but they charge you for service. They until 4am but they don’t serve alcohol. Food is really great but London can do better than this.

Established in 1949, it's renowned for its authentic Italian atmosphere, serving espresso, pastries, and traditional Italian dishes. We found this place after me and my friends met up and didn’t want to go home yet at 2AM on a weekday mind you lol so we drove all over Central London and found this unique gem. It has been a favourite ever since. The café's exterior is quite distinctive with its green and white striped awnings, and its interior exudes a classic Italian café vibe with marble countertops and vintage décor. The ambiance of the place was just vibrant and full of energy especially they were playing dance-pop classics like Livin La Vida Loca so you can imagine the vibes. We enjoyed the vibe so much that we were literally dancing as we eat our pizza and sip our hot chocolates at 2AM. Everything is quite affordable and portions were quite generous. We had the following: Quattro Formaggi - £15 Hot Chocolate - £4.20 Torte della Nonna - £5.20 Cannoli Siciliani - £4.80 Torta del Giorno - £5.20 All of the pastries were delicious and the pizzas were fresh. We literally clapped when it got to the table. This is one of my go to places in Soho when I am still out at dawn and I just want to eat a hot meal that is not fast food especially given the time so definitely save this to your list for those emergency times. Love this place. Love the environment from an era long gone. totally lovely music. Seriously good cannoli and sfogliatelle. Slightly ££ and wish they squeezed fresh orange juice in the place but I love it nonetheless....

Amazing atmosphere and with a traditional Italian style. The staff and the decoration will take you back to Italy. Just what I needed to forget my day worries. Came just for a perfect espresso and received one indeed. Grazie!

Just went in for 2 coffees. They forgot our order as the waiter was talking to his friend. We waited 15 mins without our coffee. After chasing, the coffee arrived but they gave us the wrong order. The lady waitress was not very friendly. I dont think I'd go back. Plenty of other local independent cafes in the vicinity which are much friendlier and efficient.

Appalling service. Me and two friends went to the Bar Italia on Frith Street on a Saturday night for drinks, as my friend had been before and had a good time, so recommended it to celebrate her birthday. She was previously given drinks tokens which we tried to use, only to be told that they wouldn’t possibly have given them to her (not sure what was meant by this but sounded incredibly rude and degrading). When we tried to dispute this fact, we were told that we needed to leave or pay for all drinks. After the manager stood behind us and eyed us up and down while we disputed what to do, we decided we actually didn’t feel welcome or comfortable to stay any longer and left. It was a shame as we would’ve stayed and probably would’ve spent a lot of money as the night went on. Wouldn’t go here unless you want to attend a pretentious bar that’s essentially a glorified Simmon’s. Unfortunately wouldn’t recommend.

Took a nostalgic visit to Bar Italia with my gorgeous wife. It must have been 30 years ago since we were there before. It hasn't changed much. Delicious coffee and cake, with an authentic Italian atmosphere!

Good old school Italian cafe atmosphere and good cappuccino. But £4.18 for a coffee!!? I totally understand that they're independent but that's a good 20% more expensive than other coffee shops nearby. You end up feeling that they're price gouging based on their prestigious history...🙄

What a cute little place. Randomly found this cafe after turning in the door at some chain cafe nearby. Little Italy in Soho. Friendly service and excellent hot chocolate. Will be back for sure.

WARNING! Took a cab from vauxhall as they advertised as open 24/7. Friday night. Wasn't even a problem that on arrival discovered its not a bar but a cafe. Would have been fine with that. But the fact we paid for a cab there to find its closed and its listed incorrectly. To have a business in such a high rent area, such a simple thing to have right.

We work across the street and have been frequenting Bar Italia for three years now. Kind staff, good coffee. Thanks guys!

Finally found a proper Italian espresso in the UK! The espresso was as it should be. Had two single ones after each other along with a ham and cheese croissant with proper prosciutto crudo. The crossaint was very generous with its filling, the only thing that can improve is to heat it up much more as it was quite cold which was a shame. We also had a cannolo and again.. finally a proper ricotta cannolo as it should be! The place has retained a lot of its character which is great however it does need an upgrade as it is verging onto looking too old and unclean. I will however visit again!

First time visit! The place was quite busy at night. I had an expresso, cortado, latte, tiramisu, and a cheesecakes and nata. They were above-average for us. The place and ambience were great, it was nice to sit and check everything. The barista was busy and she got order nearly 4 times to write it. She wasn’t so friendly or attentive to us.

Solid espresso if you like Italian dark roast. But man, that's an expensive espresso.

I have to say I really enjoyed the introduction but unfortunately Jay completely ignored our complaints and was even less understanding. He had no respect for us after our food was taken away and wouldn’t even hear us out. Telling us to leave and overall just had a complete lack of respect. It's really unfortunate for a restaurant to act in this way. Anyway I hope for them and their staff to act better in the future as it was honestly such a shame.

You can feel the history in this place. Great espresso and lovely toasted focaccia.

Proper espresso to wake the dead!

Check the bill before you pay, I was charged an extra 10% , when I questioned it the waiter to me apparently its the "takeaway fee"......despite sitting at a table. They removed it without explanation and started serving the next customer. When they gave me a paper receipt it read that the extra 10% was a gratuity...which means they are taking the money for themselves....a bit dodgy if you ask me...

Bar Italia could be written off as a relic of "old Soho" and it has survived despite the wholesale gentrification of Frith Street. But if you want good drinks, Italian coffee and snacks without the plastic kitsch atmosphere of the rest of the district, this is where you should come.

This place is a heartfelt favourite 😍 It never changes. Wonderful coffee. Lovely Service. Filled with great stuff, the atmosphere is very unique. I used to go a lot in the 80s, 90s, then 2000s! A true timepiece. Don't ever change, por favor! 🙏🏽💖

I like coming here. I like drinking Cappuccino and Bar Italia has never failed me. Pasta dishes are very very delicious. Particularly Torta Della is my favourite.

Best coffee I’ve ever tasted in London felt like I was back in Rome!! The tiramisu was to die for !

My partner is Italian, and she had her parents visiting for the weekend.. so we thought we would go in for a coffee, particularly the espressino freddo. We asked the guy behind the bar for "2 espresso freddo, one espresso and one espresso decaf"... The older guy (Irish he said) responded extremely rudely, my partner tried to then say "cafe al creme" because he didn't understand anything. Eventually he said "don't complicate things, it's called an iced cappuccino" - I mean this doesn't sound rude, but in person it was the height of bad manners. Her father then asked for some miele (honey) to which he started mimicking and taking the p*** out of his accent. EXTREMELY BAD SERVICE AND DO NOT RECOMMEND ANYONE TO VISIT THIS PLACE (also very overpriced for what it is, but you get what you pay for in Soho right 🤣)

I love Bar Italia but £4.62 for a double espresso is taking the pisciare. Wasn’t even given a nice cup.

Although it was a destination (an Italian day!), we dived into the Bar Italia out of the torrential rain and was almost transported to Rome or Milan. A cosy anglicised Italian bar which felt relaxed and comfortable. The coffee was perfect as were the small cannoli. The service was a bit vague but it didn't really matter. A much more interesting experience than any of the global coffee chains!

My friend and I visit Soho every month from Dublin and this is our go to, a couple of coffees in the morning watching the world go by and pizza in the evening and again after our night's out, lovely staff and gorgeous pizza, I wouldn't be gone on the pasta dishes.

A lovely little authentic Italian coffee shop. I would definitely go again if in the area.

La noche de ayer estuve en el lugar y la señorita de la caja (Loredana) no fue para nada amable al contrario ha sido muy grosera con nosotros como turistas, no hablo bien inglés entonces al momento de tomar la orden le señale que deseaba de la carta ella entendió otra cosa, yo de nuevo con mi poco inglés le intente decir que se había equivocado que me corrigiera el pedido habían pasado quizás 2 minutos no más desde que hice la compra, ella con actitud arrogante me grita y me dice español ? Y le digo si amablemente, a lo que responde pues hablé usted tiene que hablar para que uno le entienda o si no para que señala hablé hablé, muy molesta dice que me cambia el pedido, créame que si yo supiera que ella hablaba español le hubiese hecho mi pedido en español pero ella tampoco me preguntó. Al principio viendo que se me estaba dificultado hacerle el pedido, eso me pareció de mal gusto finalmente cené allí porque ya había pagado o si no me retiraba, la comida muy deliciosa unos paninis bien preparados pero lastima el mal servicio que presta esa señorita no volvería ni lo recomiendo porque la calidad va de la mano del servicio y eso en ese lugar no hay …..

Visited Wednesday 9th August This is one of my favourite places to visit when I am in London. It’s a bit expensive but the coffee is excellent and the staff are friendly. On this occasion I was served by a female staff member -with black hair and Nike trainers. She was extremely efficient and had a great manner with the customers. Bar Italia are lucky to have her working there.

IF THIS IS THE CAFE IN FRITH STREET… avoid! I didn’t mind the shabbiness but I did mind £16.39 for a macchiato and two croissants (and an added tip). I made my feelings clear.

An absolute London icon. I’d imagine they don’t have to - and therefore don’t - invest in its upkeep. They obviously trade on the place being a surviving, flourishing, 50’s / 60’s style icon. But the decor hasn’t been updated since then. The floor tiles are original …..,,, and cracked and dirty. The coffee is great. The cannoli is excellent. The service is moody (the young lady is polite, friendly and efficient, the older chap is efficient and the lady behind the counter is rude. But I really enjoyed the visit, although my friend was less complimentary. I’d go again for the cappuccino and cannoli, but the decor and ambiance are dying on their laurels.

Staff cool but a bit disoriented,we wait 40 mn for a panino because of a problem of staff communication,then panino arrived and it was too late to order another beer,so we eat this dry sandwich without any drink,plus service charge of 1.75£ ,never again

When I walked in, there was not that busy. I had a single expresso, a tiramisu, and a cannoli siciliano. They were the best I had in my life. The crema was sooo creamy, the coffee and liquor just matched each other, and the mouth feel was good, and cream in cannoli was so nice. I stayed a bit while and saw guests coming in, soon they filled up the bar with a queue. It must be the magic of the food and the barista who acted so friendly and true. I will visit again next time I visit London. Good vibes!
