Bar Epernay in Birmingham

Absolutely loved drinking and people watching at this place all last summer. Was shocked to see that it has suddenly disappeared!

Nunca ha comido sólo para las bebidas, pero cada vez he recibido un servicio rápido. El sábado tarde decidimos ir para cócteles. Como el personal del bar tuvo que hacer 4 cócteles diferentes dijeron a sentarse y les gustaría ser traído. Me encanta este bar sí, es caro, pero es agradable para sentarse en un bar encantador en un ambiente agradable.

We came for drinks last night it's a nice setting good atmosphere and good quality drinks the vintage moet was beautiful would definitely come back, lovely setting to and near everything you would need not to busy but not to quiet the right combination.

This was my first visit and it was nice. The bar had a relaxed atmosphere and the drinks were reasonably priced for The Mailbox. Staff were friendly and were quick off the mark when someone smashed a glass.

Pura clase. Menú de comida con una excelente selección de champagnes, vinos y cervezas, todo servido por un personal muy amable y atento. Lo que lo hace aún más especial es la música de fondo relajante aspirantes a músicos locales. No es el más barato de los bares, pero esto es verdaderamente refleja la clientela que atrae a este bar. No puedo recomendar Bar Epernay lo suficiente, bien merece una visita.

Estoy de acuerdo con DavidH y cuando fuimos al bar de Epernay hace unos meses era ofensivo para un chef uno de nuestro grupo y el director no quería hacer nada que es como ir a lugares como este y perder a medida. Su realidad es un bar muy bonito y agradable y el personal es amable, así que, ¿por qué el director permiten mal comportamiento ir? Si mantener el personal mal en este sería excelente.

En los pasados años mi esposa y yo nos visita Bar Epernay después de ir de compras en el cercano buzón o asistiendo a conferencias en el impresionante centro de convenciones internacional o Simon traqueteo de la CB conciertos en el acústicamente espléndido Symphony Hall cuando vivíamos en la cercana ciudad de Solihull. Ahora residente en España no había estado allí durante varios años y era muy feliz de encontrar el ambiente, el servicio, la calidad y el valor de la comida tan buena como siempre han completado con un pianista acariciando las teclas mientras en el fondo. Como era un domingo 20 de marzo ambos elegimos el menú Domingo almuerzo de 2 platos en £17.95 cada una. Comencé con un recién preparada y generosa ensalada césar mientras mi mujer tenía un espléndido ofrecimiento de Salmón Ahumado seguido por tanto de tener la excelente a la parrilla con verduras toda la solla muy bien preparado mientras como extra compartimos un delicioso refresco cayera Apple. Completo con vino nuestra cuenta fue de £55.14 más de propina. Andy nuestro camarero era muy educado atento pero indiscreto y un verdadero ejemplo de lo que un buen servicio al cliente y la interfaz debe ser.

Tuvimos una comida en el bar estupendo de Epernay. El bar tiene un ambiente encantador con un personal amable. Pedí el champiñón y espinacas tagliatelle y mi pareja tenía el salmón. Las comidas eran deliciosos y el camarero que nos servía era muy servicial. También pudimos disfrutar de nuestras bebidas nuestro por el fuego después de la cena lo que remató la experiencia. Música y excelente ambiente. Estado aquí antes volveremos de nuevo.

It was lovely!! I went there with my girlfriend and thoroughly enjoyed the cocktails. Two for One makes it great value and the staff are happy to make anything despite it not being on the menu or recommend other cocktails from the menu.

My wife and I visited Bar Epernay with friends on Friday night (8.00) whilst on our way to catch our trains and found it had a good atmosphere but having to sit by the only table and chairs next to the piano player made it very hard for us to hold a conversation. Will perhaps leave it to the better weather and then we can sit outside.

Went in the bar area with my wife and lad.Sat at a table off to the side and went to the bar. On ordering drinks, I was then asked if I was with the guy in the red top, to which I answered yes and then asked if he had ID?Replied with he is 13, so no, he hasn't.Then told that after 5 it is 18 and over only.On leaving, we checked for signs etc to inform the policy, and eventually found it on the door that also had on it in rather large letters, 'Use other door'Firstly, need to clearly show their policy on all entry doors and secondly, we are not in the dark ages and surely all families should be welcome at 6 on a Sunday evening especially when it was quiet!!!

Booked a table for a girly dinner. Champagne on offer on a Friday but only until 8pm. Starters were lovely: I had pate which was delicious. Unfortunately out of 5 main meals 4 were so cold we sent them back (my rib eye was stone cold). Had to wait ages for them to come back and had no apologie or reduction on the bill. Didn't stick around after dinner and might struggle to recommend although the bar was lovely.

Meeting with frie who were running rather late so we decided to call in here, lovely ambiance, great selection of champagne. Few drinks and good food from the lunch time menu. Faultless.

As non meat eaters we were pleased to see good fish options on the menu. There was however only one strictly vegetarian main course. Overall the service was excellent & I would recommend this restaurant. We were seated well away from the pianist so it wasn't too loud.

I love going in on a Friday for cheap champagne. It starts at £19.95 a bottle between 3-8pm. The ambience is welcoming. I think it is a shame there are so many reserved tables just for eating (most of which were empty) as I will leave the bar if I can't get a seat. We did manage to get the only free table but it was close to the door and absolutely freezing whenever the door was opened. Consequently, only stayed for one bottle which was a shame. I do recommend this bar but not a table near the door. It is lovely in hot weather to sit on the tables outside overlooking the canal. It was snowing tonight!

Very slow service for a large group. Bar staff often nowhere to be seen. When pointed out the was some improvement but not from all staff. I felt embarrassed as host for the evening.

Wonderful service. Delightful decor and surrounding; very comfortable. The pianist was okay but after all, they are students so I will accept that. When the pianist wasn't playing, the music was a little too loud, I don't know what it would have been like if it was very busy. The noise may have been VERY over-powering. However, the food was delightful as was the recommended bottle of wine so I would recommend friends and family to visit. I'd like to thank Alex and Tom for their good quality service.

Have been to Bar Epernay on various occasions, mostly for drinks or lunch...first time for evening meal.Atmosphere was lovely...piano playing in the background, really cosy setting.My starter of pate was delicious...but felt let down by the main...both myself and my partner ordered steak...didn't have the option of fillet, only sirloin...it was disappointing...not so much the way it was cooked, but the cut of meat. I would rather have paid more and had a decent cut of fillet...chips were a little over cooked.Having said all of this, didn't spoil our night...I would return, but would probably order something different next time, or hope they add fillet steak to the menu.Served by 2 young guys, both very pleasant and attentive. Due to the location of the restaurant, and the sort of people who would use it...could definitely afford to add fillet to the menu.

First visit to Birmingham to go to a concert. Wandering around the canal we came across this place. We had a most wonderful meal. At only £14 for two courses it was exceptional value, plus the service was helpful and friendly. We can also recommend a fabulous Pinot noir wine from m New Zealand.Any time we are in Birmingam this is where we will eat

We visited the place to have champagne. The place is very nice. Atmosphere is cosy and music is just fabulous, very relaxing and romantic. However, all advantages of this place worth nothing just because it was freezing cold. We were sitting at the back of the bar by the window when we came, later we have changed the table further away from window and it was still freezing cold. Seemed like there was no heater at all. I will never come back during the winter.

Came here before an appointment at local hair salon. Good service, served straight away. Not very busy so nice and quiet. Usually come here before it after hair appointments. Would recommend.

My husband & I booked for Valentines and were not disappointed with the food or the service , yet again Sophie and her team gave 100% satisfaction.No matter if we have booked for 26 of our friends or a romantic meal for 2 the service and quality of food is the same , always with a smile always professional .Thanks once again for another wonderful night ..

Nice ambience but the food did not live up to expectations. I did not appreciate being called "love" by the waiter...

Lovely bar, warm and welcoming. Staff behind the bar are friendly and knowledgeable and willing to have a chat if not too busy. Not the cheapest place to drink but good quality drinks are more expensive. Beer & wine selection very good and plenty of bubbles to choose from.

Spending a couple of days in Birmingham, we strolled through the Mailbox, at the rear of which we emerged on a waterside area with several bars and restaurants on two levels. We liked the look of Bar Epernay and went in. It is very nicely laid out, with a stunning modern central flame heater surrounded by bench seating. There is a separate area for meals, but we only wanted a drink. I ordered coffee at the bar and was told it would be brought to where we were sitting. It took a while to be served although the place was not very busy. Nevertheless it was very pleasant and it would be nice to go there for a meal.

Cold atmosphere, quieter than your average bar. Cocktails ok but took us so long to get served that's why it has to be a 1 star we got to the point that 30 mins was just too long

Had dinner with a friend a few months ago and it was very pleasant - lunch yesterday a bit boring and service not quite as attentive. Value okay.

Perfect spot in the middle of town, perfect for a rest mid-shop. Staff all attentive, knowledgeable and friendly. Found a perfect spot to relax by the fire and the wine flowed well. Will return.

My wife and I popped in here for a quick drink before going to the Everyman Cinema. The first impression is really good and you know you are going somewhere with a bit more class.There is a great selection of champagnes, we particularly enjoy Belle Époque as it is what we had at our wedding, but the range is from Moët, through Laurent Perrier to Armand de Brignac. It seems slightly strange to talk about prices when discussing champagne but given the location and quality of venue I did feel that the prices represent good value - this does not mean cheap, but I did not feel that the prices were taking advantage of me either.If you want something a little more special then pop to Bar Epernay.

Have visited here before and love the atmosphere. The piano playing is a huge boost to the evening, for me, as were the cocktails though very expensive. I guess they are "big city prices".Clearly a popular place for drinks as well as food.The service was good and once the noise had abated (busy time) we could hear the piano better. Several David Bowie songs played which seemed a fitting and topical tribute.

excellent place, only been for a drink, so can not make any comment on the food. There is always a good atmosphere here, can hightly recommend it

Nice bar with a good choice of drinks and food. Sometimes has a piano player and service is good. Nice location for around the Mailbox area and Brindley place.

Visited Birmingham for the night and stayed at the Mailbox so stayed local in the afternoon and visited Epernay for a Saturday afternoon drink. The venue is beautiful and the layout and design is really good with excellent service. My only critique was the music - Live jazz. This is a personal thing but I thought it was really overwhelming and we only stayed for drink. I would definitely go again but only when there is no music!

It was my daughters birthday and we decided to try Bar Epenay for lunch. From the moment we entered we were looked after so well by Mo. The atmosphere was great and the food was first class. I would recommend this restaurent and we all look forward to returning again shortly.

Where do I start?. This has got to be one of the classiest and most romantic places we have visited . From the piano player to the modern fireplace this place just oozes style and our evening just flew buy. Staff were friendly and attentive but not in your face...food and drink were fantastic and a wide selection considering it is a champagne bar...I can't rate it highly enough.

As this bar can get really hectic at this time of year, we opted for a late lunch. Friendly service - so friendly they kept forgetting to bring things we had asked for, but no matter, they were chatting up the other customers! All oversights rectified straightaway and with a smile. Food very nice indeed and with half-price champagne on offer, what's not to like?

Lovely setting, really friendly staff, had the ritz cocktail which was beautiful, brought to the table with a smile, didn't have time to eat but look forward to returning

I really love Bar Epernay especially at this time of year. So lovely to sit around the fire, with a cold glass of champagne listening to the pianist with your other half. Wonderful !

We only visited for drinks, but it is a lovely bar with a pianist playing, décor is nice and the bar is relaxing ,however it might be more hectic late evenings but it was a pleasant experience

Went with a group of friends for Christmas. Lovely place nice decor great atmosphere and very helpful attentive staff. Good range of wine, cocktails and champagne. The disappointment was the food not cheap and frankly ordinary. It was the Christmas menu so limited choice to begin with and not as good as you would expect for a venue of this quality. Perhaps unfair to judge on a busy pre Christmas evening so will maybe give it another go outside the festive season.

Got pleasant place to meet friends and may be take in a meal, staff reasonably attentive and very polite, food limited and to be honest lets the rest of the Restraunt down, however as its one of the more relaxed places in the mailbox it survives. Good wines thought!

Had a lovely experience dining here for my Aunts birthday. They opened the library area for us as there were so many of us and catered to all our needs. Food was spectacular! Especially want to say how amazing the service was, we did not make it easy for them at all but our waiter Alex was an absolute star, he was very pleasant and down to earth. Even though most of us turned up late he still managed to get everything sorted, which included our very compliment bill, and got us out before 9 as scheduled. Would definitely recommend this place and return.

Stopped off for a break from shopping was so nice to listen to the pianist and watch the world go by,i had champagne but they do food,afternoon tea as well.

What a lovely afternoon! A group of us came here for Sunday lunch with the vouchercloud 15% off code :) had a fab time. Great atmosphere with live pianist, service was great, food was delicious. Would definitely return. Only criticism is they ran out of one of the two desserts from the set menu but other than that, a great restaurant!

We went for dinner as a small group for a friends birthday and the experience was brilliant. The cocktail and champagne list look amazing although we didn't try on this occasion, opting for wine. The food surpassed expectations - it's not the cheapest option in Birmingham but completely worth it! Really good quality and amazing flavour. We will 100% be returning soon to try the cocktails.

The decor looked very nice as i was walking by so we decided to pop in. Was busy inside and around the bar. Atmosphere was very good too. Until went to order our drinks at the bar and the service from the waitress spoiled the whole new experience, no manners at all and was rather rude. cant say we stopped long after that.

We visited here for cocktails yesterday and were pleasantly surprised. I had the hazelnut whirl (delicious - very creamy and chocolatey!) and my partner had the whiskey sour (absolutely gorgeous). The atmosphere is really nice and loved the resident pianist. Will definitely visit again!

We stopped by for a late dinner on a Thursday night. The restaurant area was not busy. I have ordered a creamy mushroom soop to begin with. What a disappointment. There were some plastic feeling small pieces with every sip of the soup. After it was cleared away, the waiter came back to tell me it was just mushroom... We chose duck breast for our main courses and the chicken came out for both of us!!! When we told a waitress it was supposed to be duck, she responded that they were out of duck for a few hours by then. Did they decide to make a choice for us and serve chicken without notifying us? That stays unknown. We decided to keep the chicken and it was actually really good. The waiter came out to apologize again and offered free wine for us. We refused the wine, because it wasn't about free drinks at all... He also told us he would let the manager know. The worst thing was that the manager remained an invisible figure. He or she didn't even come out to check on us and left the staff to solve the situation themselves. Shame on the management who decide to stay off the restaurant floor when they are needed the most!!!

Went to bar Epernay tonight with a group of people from work as a friend I had worked with for 30 years was retiring, I was feeling upbeat and happy to be with a group of good friends. I want to add that i am in my late 40's and dont go out every weekend as I help my mum care for my dad who had dementia! I was at the bar with my friend and was told by the barmaid (Sophie) that she wouldn't serve us as I was too drunk???? (this was about 8.30pm) I was very shocked ... but didn't argue (as a drunk person probably would have!!!_) I had been dancing and was happy to be out but was definately not staggering in the toilest as she said i was!.Another friend later went to the bar to get a drink and was told ."dont give HER any of the wine" I was really upset and totally mortified by this, I am a respectable person and this whole episode totally ruined the whole night out, I would like to add that I have been to Bar Epernay twice previousy for food and drinks, but i will never come back!!!!. Following this we decided to leave, A friend went to the bar to speak to Sophie and asked if i looked and was acting drunk??? to which she replied "OK I called it wrong" .........I was really upset and my friend is going to make a formal complaint ....I understand that standards have to be met but if a group of mature people having a celebration is not what u want in your bar then perhaps you should stipulate under 25's only as long as your quiet and don't enjoy yourselves too much!

Went to a few bars in Birmingham but this one was my favourite. Live pianist and bass player gave the place a nice evening atmosphere. Nicely situated on the canal near some other nice restaurants and bars. Not to mention some great cocktails!

Amazing drinks and atmosphere. The staff are excellent and the service is always great. We keep coming back time and time again. Highly recommended for a romantic meal for two or drinks with friends.

Lovely relaxed atmosphere. Plenty of drink choice especially recommend trying the cocktails. Lady playing the piano was very good. We didn't dine but food looked lovely when being brought out. Only thing was lack of seating for non diners

Excellent environment, has a real buzz without being crowded. The food is great and the service is always first class. Enjoy it every time.

Great atmosphere with piano player and good mix of people. Chairs and tables plus sofas for those that want to relax. Good place to eat, good staff. Only slight negative is that sometimes food is a bit slow so give yourself plenty of time.

we called in here for a drink before going for a meal at Marco Pierre Whites restaurant. The staff were very friendly, I wished we had eaten here instead.

We had visited Bar Epernay many times prior to last night but just for drinks. The decor is modern yet it feels comfortable and 'homely', especially on dark cold nights when the central fire is lit. This time we decided to eat and we were not disappointed. We both decided on the Scotch Egg Starter which was beautifully cooked with a crisp outer edge of sausage containing a firm egg yet runny yolk. I had the battered cod and chips as my main dish and this again was excellent with the batter nice and crispy without being over cooked. The chips were 'chunky' and delicious - the kitchen is obviously in good hands!The service is friendly without being over-fussy and intrusive.We will definitely return.

This has to be my favourite bar in Birmingham. I love the atmosphere and the type of people it attracts. The beers are good and not your run of the mill. The central fire place is lovely in the winter. I have never eaten here

This is a lovely bar. Great cocktails and lovely place to relax. Cocktails, spirits and draft. Well worth the visit, also do food but we didn't partake on this visit.

Nite out for 8 of us in Birmingham and my first time here....very impressed! Good choice beers/wines/cocktails...had piano player too! Lovely classy atmosphere and nice and airy inside!

My partner and I love the atmosphere in here but unfortunately it doesnt make up for the huge lack of service. By the time our experience was finished we both agreed that we would not be spending our money in here again. The staff are all extremely friendly but thats where it ends.

We regularly pop in for a drink to Bar Epernay - love the pianists, although feel quite sad they don't seem to get the audience appreciation they deserve. On this occasion, we decided to grab a meal & weren't disappointed! We had a few 'unusual' requests which our waitress, Jade, duly managed with the kitchen & chef was most accommodating! Jade was a breathe of fresh air - ahead of us in our needs repeatedly & wholly unobtrusive but available and able to assist. Really was a lovely evening in a place which presents a lovely city centre setting, in my thoughts, much underused by local people.

Visited in 2013 and thoroughly enjoyed - returned two years later and had a completely disappointing experience. Bread rolls (frozen/part cooked?) were uneatable and we sent them back. Rock hard on the outside and soft/wet/very hot on the inside. Surely this standard of restaurant could at least buy "fresh" bread. We both had fish and chips - meal sat under hot lamp for quite a few minutes before bringing to table although it was not that busy. Batter uneatable - greasy/luke warm/soggy and very under cooked. I left ALL my batter (left it in a soggy heap on the side of the plate) and just eat some of the fish. When waitress cleared table said she would speak to the chef - Manager (I think), wearing snazzy waistcoat heard this conversation but made no effort to come to the table and discuss. He was not to be seen when we paid the bill. As we left we saw him and explained our disappointment in the standard of the meal and he just said "sorry" and walked away. Had a lovely meal in Cotes the night before - there is so much competition in that area Epernay need to up their game in the food department. Below average meals in such a lovely bar need to be addressed - head office/manager/chef "definitely need do better". We went Sunday afternoon 30 August - table 18. The bottle of Chablis was the most enjoyable part of the meal! Will not be going back.

Fantastic atmosphere, drinks and prices aren't too bad either. A good mix of people, really friendly helpful staff and beautiful live piano.

This use to be my wife's favourite restaurant. Whenever we were in Birmingham this is where we always use to go. Big choice on the food menu, lots of great choice of drinks, someone playing the piano. Just perfect. Well we were concerned it was so quiet but sticking to tradition we went in. Food menu has now been cut into less than half of the choices. Maybe 6 mains to choose from. I went for the scotch egg starter. Came to me pink inside and majorly under cooked. Not great for pork. Sent it back. However when it did arrive the second time it was lovely. Then main course was the burger. I noticed the burger was sat under the hot plate for quite some time by the kitchen. This was then given to us. Burger was on the luke warm side but chips piping hot but under cooked inside. The staff were friendly and trying to be helpful and I can quite comfortably say this is now not a favourite restaurant. In fact it has gone majorly down hill. Shame really.

Lovely atmosphere on a Saturday night. Great cocktails. Thought it was the same as Epernay in Leeds but it was not part of the same group. Was every bit as nice and the champagne cocktail was great.

Stopped by for lunch on a Saturday, no reservation, but welcomed in and offered a great table.The staff are friendly and efficient, and the decor contemporary. The atmosphere is very relaxed, with live music providing a great ambience - on this occasion classy jazz provided by a piano player and double bassist.The menu was very straightforward. We chose from the set menu which was £13 for two courses. The food arrived quickly and was well presented. I was particularly impressed with the starters - I chose the pate which was excellent and came with a superbly dressed salad. The main course was tasty and excellent.Overall, a lovely experience. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, and I look forward to returning very soon.

Locale di fronte al canale nel mailbox comodo da raggiungere, ci siamo presi l'aperitivo all'inglese e ci siamo trovati bene. Da italiano l'unica cosa che non riesco a capire in Inghilterra abbiamo preso una bottiglia e come sempre non ci hanno portato neanche le noccioline se le vuoi le paghi 2 sterline....

A meet up point for a friends rendezvous. The wine was good but the bar snack menu limited. Shame the piano wasn't being played. It's situation on the canal makes it more attractive.

We recently visited for a birthday afternoon tea, and what a lovely afternoon we had. We arrived early so had time for a cocktail while our table was being prepared, and that included a non- alcoholic cocktail for an 11 year old in our party-she was most charmed ! Our food took a while to arrive and while we were busy chatting etc, the waitress said that the manager wanted to offer us complementary champagne by way of apology for the delay - a very nice and thoroughly enjoyable gesture. Afternoon tea was the usual fare but the experience was enhanced by the excellent attentive service eg the ready topping up of the tea, and by the pleasant surroundings. I visit fairly regularly for Fizz Friday, but several of the party were 'newly impressed' and said they will also now be back! thank you bar epernay for making my daughter's birthday special x

This restaurant is amazing, the food is beautiful and so tasty. You get what you pay for, everything is a reasonable price and the atmosphere is so chilled and relaxing. We couldn't of chosen a better place to spend our second valentines day together as a couple. Definitely recommend it to friends and family

I visited Bar Epernay with friends. It was great food and atmosphere. Recommend it for everyone. Good was lovely and staff very professional.

I have been here a few times in the past, but today myself and a couple of friends visited due to me leaving my job recently.I cannot fault the level of service, my friend bought her 9 month baby and the staff were excellent with her and my friend making her completely at ease - (we've been to places in the past and customers have told us to leave) The service was second to none. We'd ordered a variety of sandwiches and deserts all of which arrived promptly and we're completely delicious.Would definitely go back!

Nice décor, friendly staff, prices reasonable for a city centre wine bar. Good selection of champagne, other fizz, wines, beer.Food also available; in fact the majority of the space seemed to be for diners rather than just for drinkers. More space needed for if you just want a drink.

have been going here off and on for many years now and really can bout find fault. the o my thing that let it down for me recently was the decor. I'm happy to say this as been changed and the look is so much better.as always the food is excellent and the service very good . good section of drinks Tec.

My fiancé & I had cocktails here during the Jazz festival. The decor is modern, with innovative features. The prosecco cocktails are lovely. There is a terrace with fantastic views over the canal & mailbox. Definitely worth a visit.

Staff that think their job is to gossip at bar and ignore guests, lose reservation, find reservation on piece of scrap paper, then waitress throws a drink over a member of party, no manager apologised, girl was mortified but no one actually dealt with situation. Afternoon tea was great but whole experience was over shadowed by poor tinny piano playing accompanied by poor tinny guitar playing. Left with a headache. Over priced and pretentious!

My boyfriend proposed to me and we came here for drinks and lunch. The staff were lovely and helped with the surprise so when I came in there was prosecco and strawberries on the table. They were very patient as I was quite overwhelmed and we had a lot of phone calls so it took us a while to choose and order food. We had some very generous sandwiches which were delicious and very filing. It was a fantastic lunch and really helped to make the day special.

I looked a few of the mailbox websites/reviews & phoned up on Thursday & got a table for 8pm Saturday . As you'd expect on a Saturday night the place was pretty busy but we got a drink up the bar easily enough & then asked & were shown our table quite smoothlyThe restauarant was about half full when we got there & pretty full by the time we left about 10The menu was not massive but acceptable & there were additional specials as well Service & the meal were both good The meal for 2 started & 2 mains ( we were too full for desert ) was about £40 so pretty good value for a nice restuarant in a good locationThe piano was good for most of the part but by the time we were going it had got a bit monotonous Overall a good night ,good location & good value

I really rather like this place, but customer service is incredibly variable. I've always found the food decent. However, on a number of occasions, I've ordered wine from their wine list, which they haven't stocked. They try to offer alternatives, but staff wine knowledge is questionable, so it's very hard to choose something else, as they just hold up bottles for you to admire. Please address this Epernay - it's been an on going problem!

We don't come here for the food, generally, it is a spot for a drink or two. In the summer it can be a very pleasant spot, in the winter sit inside by the open fire and enjoy a pick me up. You can sit inside or out depending upon the weather, there ia decent view of the canals of Birmingham.

I asked to borrow a pen but staff informed me they had none..... so much for customer service. apart from that nice bar overlooking the water front.

Poor internal communications between staff, poor quality control, poor food preparation and poor delivery. Bar Epernay is a classic case of failure to live up to the promise of a good website, good location and a nice looking restaurant. If you can avoid it try not to be fobbed off with a table in the 'Library'. It's out of the general buzz of the main restaurant and, if you are unlucky enough to be the only booking at that time, there is absolutely no atmosphere. Food included deep fried fish cakes that were full of fat and over fried thin slivers of Pollock and chips (Pollock has only gained popularity because of its discounted price - certainly not the sort of fish that should be served in a restaurant that pitches itself as Bar Epernay does).There are plenty of other restaurants in the area, don't waste you time and money on Bar Epernay.

Popped in at the end of our afternoon catch up for on of the fabulous champagne cocktails which was lush as always. Staff were very helpful, the bar was busy but we got a table no problem.

Disappointing visit to this bar last night with visiting family. The bar was very quiet but staff still removed my party from a table in the empty "restaurant area". As they have only a few small tables outside what they call their restaurant, there was nowhere else to sit together. The duty manager said it was "company policy", I said it was embarrassing. We left after our first drink. I think they need to think again about their company policy so it thinks of the customers needs

It was airy, prices were OK, the piano player was good but didn't dominate the room. The view outside was great...with a great sunset!

Nice environment with piano player but there were a few bum notes. Good device and The menu was good but the taste didn't deliver unfortunately. Could only describe it as acceptable and with the competition in birmingham I think they should try a little harder.

After a hectic mornings shopping in town we dragged our weary feet to the Mailbox in search of a late lunch. The drizzle stopped, the sun came out and we found a table outside.Ordered club sandwiches and a bottle of white from the bar, very chirpy greeting which was nice. Settled down for a little people watching and it wasn't long before our food arrived. Great tasting clubs, just the right amount of fries and a fresh salad beautifully presented. Wine was good too and we spent a pleasant hour or so enjoying it.We would eat here again when next in Birmingham.

A reasonably priced sandwich for wifey and one that wasn't on the menu but easily accommodated. Ok drinks price and the pianist was excellent

Staff very friendly and the food was excellent. I had their club sandwich which came with fries and salad. Good value for money.

Visited here whilst out with family, lovely atmosphere with piano player and the best Mojitas I have ever tasted

Nous y sommes allés après le diner. Le barman était gentil bien qu'il n'y avait pas beaucoup de place près du bar. Les cocktails sont pas les meilleurs mais ils sont bien.Le bon côtés c'est de pouvoir s'asseoir devant le feu en buvant son cocktails. L'ambiance est genial pour y boire un coup, passe du bon temps.Le service est bien, tu vas au bar, tu commandes et tu payes. Assez simple et relax, heureusement il n'y avait pas beaucoup de client donc on a put en profiter.
