Simplemente no funciona.

Me encantĂł.

A fashionable, super-popular bistro close to London's financial district. Therefore I expected that the food prices would reflect the location and indeed they do. But the food tends to be excellent. I had cod croquettes (ÂŁ8) with a Hake & Squid Caldeirada ( a sort of stew) (ÂŁ17) to follow with a surprisingly excellent vegetable dish new to me, hot Cabbage & Soubise (ÂŁ8) and finished with an Almond Tart (ÂŁ8). Two glasses of an excellent red Douro guest wine cost ÂŁ27.50, so I guess this is where the bistro makes its main income - on the drinks. An expresso was ÂŁ3.75 and a 12.5% service charge was added to the bill bringing the total to over ÂŁ81 (I paid, but this is a discretionary charge, so not mandatory). The price, considering the portions were adequate but not generous, is more than I'd normally want to pay, but if you like really good Portuguese fare and quality wines and an atmosphere with a bit of a buzz, this might be the place for you.

Delightful, authentic Portugese restaurant, extensive Portuguese wine list and small plate menu was delicious. With casual counter seating arrangements and an open kitchen the staff were helpful and attentive. A cabbage dish was sublime, tasty croquettes, full flavoured garlic potatoes, succulent prawns and an unusual , salted cod hash. Will definitely visit again when in London.

The traditional Portuguese sharing plates served at Bar Douro are worth trying. This is one of our 'must go to' restaurants every time we visit London. The food is excellent. We have never had a bad meal at Bar Douro and we have been going there at least 4 to 5 times a year for several years.

During my visit to a charming establishment nestled beneath the arches near London Bridge, I discovered a culinary gem that exudes traditional Portuguese charm. This small space, adorned with exquisite azulejo decor, features an open kitchen where skilled chefs work their magic, accompanied by a seating counter that provides a front-row view of the culinary artistry. Upon entering, I was pleasantly surprised to find a unique barrel table with two cozy seats, setting the tone for a warm and inviting dining experience. The staff, exuding friendliness and expertise, immediately put me at ease. To accompany the ambience, I indulged in a 33cl bottle of Superbock beer, satisfying my craving for a taste of Portugal. The menu presented a delightful array of Portuguese delicacies, and I embarked on a culinary journey that began with the Salada de polvo. This dish featured tender slices of boiled octopus, expertly paired with finely diced pickled onions and peppers, bathed in a delectable combination of vinegar and olive oil. The Pão com azeite, a hearty wholemeal sourdough bread, was accompanied by a smooth olive oil for dipping, providing a satisfying prelude to the main course. I then savored the Bacalhau à Brás, which showcased thin, grated, and perfectly creamy fried potatoes with a delightful crunch. While I enjoyed the dish, I personally longed for a higher ratio of cod to elevate the flavor profile. The salted cod itself was satisfactory but did not offer anything extraordinary. The grand finale of my meal was the Abade de priscos, a dessert that truly stood out. This rich egg yolk pudding, exhibiting robust flavors and a subtle sweetness, was expertly prepared and complemented by a high-quality lemon sorbet and a delectable crumble. It was a delightful symphony of tastes and textures, making it an excellent choice to conclude the dining experience. Overall, my visit to this establishment left a lasting impression. It undoubtedly ranks among the best Portuguese restaurants I have had the pleasure of experiencing in the UK. The combination of authentic flavors, warm ambiance, and friendly staff made for a memorable dining adventure under the train arches near London Bridge.

I was looking for this place for quite some time until I finally went there with some business mates. I'm not a novice in the Portuguese food realm and I can understand why some Portuguese don't like it. It lacks the exaggerated portions served on overflowing platters, the excessively salty food, the boring protein, rice and potatoes that seem to be the only thing they know how to serve in the most basic restaurants. Here we have food served in civilised quantities, very well prepared and seasoned and with a touch of modernity that becomes refreshing. Well done gentlemen, you've a new regular customer.

We had a lovely meal. Portion sizes were adequate and we ate every morsel. All the dishes we tried were delicious. Good selection of wines. Overall it was great but a bit overpriced especially if you have been to Portugal or other Portuguese restaurants in London (obvs not as fancy) but know the prices.

Food good, buzzing vibe, good service, we sat outside and under cover. Really like the inside of the restaurant. Food was nicely presented and the wine was good. Dishes were tasty. This is a pricey place really so it's going to be an expensive treat kind of place rather than somewhere I would go to frequently. I have been to a few excellent tapas places so this is why I'd rate this good. Putting down an average rating would be too harsh based on our recent experience.

I totally agree with another user from Portugal (Ligia), this is not traditional Portuguese food!! I come from an extensive Portuguese family and this is the most overpriced and disappointing meal I’ve had in a long time. Most dishes were bland and small for the price. The Milho didn’t taste anything close to what it should. The bacalhau a bras had barely any cod on it. If you are a real Portuguese food lover or want to try it first time, go to the Lambeth area where you can find many good restaurants to kill your saudades!

I was so disappointed with this restaurant! I read really good reviews and was looking forward to celebrate my bithday with 2 friends, however I found the food bland and lacking the true essence of portuguese food! I'm portuguese and I can tell you that they don't serve authentic Portuguese food! The bread was served with an olive oil dip, in Portugal we serve bread with olives, butter and a fish paté. Apart from the salt cod fritters and the smoked portuguese sausage the rest of the food was tasteless! The portions were very small for the price. The drinks and service were ok, but we left before ordering dessert, because we saw Pastel de Nata being served with ice cream!!!

The salads we had were generous and fresh. However, the tables are tiny and far too close together. You can only order via your phone's QR scanner, so if you dislike using this, it's best to avoid this cafe. I'm not sure I'd go again. We went on a Saturday and it was full, so it's clearly popular.

🚇 Queens Road Peckham 🍺 £4.50 Fosters The Lord Nelson is located halfway down the Old Kent Road on the border between Bermondsey and Peckham. There are not many stations close by, I got the Overground to Queens Road Peckham, it’s a twenty minute walk to get here. This pub dates from the early 19th century and is Grade II listed. It is now only one of two pubs left on the Old Kent Road, this once great drinking thoroughfare used to have 39 pubs. The interior of this pub is just magnificent, so much so that CAMRA have said it is an interior of outstanding national historic importance. The servery is located on the right hand side of the main bar and has a stunning detailed structure above. Another impressive feature of this pub are the spectacular Victorian gilded mirrors, one of which captures Lord Nelson at the battle of Cape Vincent in 1797. There is plenty of seating throughout including stools around the bar. There are two pool tables, a dartboard and a couple of fruit machines and not forgetting a proper pub carpet. The beer selection is pretty straightforward and offers a line up of familiar keg favourites. I decided on a Fosters, my pint was great, price point was reasonable at less than a fiver. There is no food served here at present. I arrived around 2.30pm on a showery Saturday afternoon in August. The pub was fairly quiet with half dozen local punters in attendance. The atmosphere was calm and relaxed with a local pub feel. I got chatting to the manager who was lovely, she was telling me all about the pub’s recent challenges and the Irish Landlady who has run this pub for nearly 30 years. She also mentioned the Monopoly pub crawlers who visit from time to time. If there was ever a pub that personifies a London Boozer, then this pub is definitely it. The building and decor are a thing of beauty, unlike any other London pub I’ve visited. I would wholeheartedly recommend you visit The Lord Nelson, a glorious London Pub. ℹ️ Info correct on visiting 24.08.24 More London Pub info @londonpubmap 🍻
