Wonderful visit. The staff were lovely and the food was amazing. The downside is that it is not wheelchair accessible. We were able to lift our son down the 3 steps into the venue but for a full sized chair this may not be viable.

Absolutely Appalling service and Attitude. Can't comment on food quality, but indifference towards customer service dreadful.

Dear Manager, I wanted to share some feedback about my recent dining experience at your restaurant. First, I’ll say that the food itself was well-prepared and thoughtfully crafted, which I appreciated. However, I encountered an issue with the timing of the dishes that significantly impacted my meal. Out of the four dishes I ordered, two—the ox cheek and the artichoke—were enjoyed cold by the time I eat them. I was dining alone, as I have before, and knowing how this can sometimes play out, I specifically asked the waitresses to bring the dishes out staggered, one after the other or two and two.Their response was that it depended on the chef. With all due respect, I’m the one eating the food and the one who will eat the food cold—so whose experience should this be tailored to? I understand that this is a tapas bar/sharing experience, but if someone is alone and request something, please… In the end, they brought the croqueta first, which was fine, but then the other three dishes—octopus pasta, ox cheek, and artichoke—arrived all at once. The pasta was the largest dish, and by the time I finished it, the ox cheek was no longer hot, and the artichoke was completely cold. The waitresses were attentive otherwise, and I didn’t send the dishes back out of respect for your establishment. However, as I paid and said goodbye, I shared my thoughts with the waitress. I hope that the next time I visit—if there is a next time—my request to have the dishes served with proper timing will be respected. If not, I’m afraid I won’t be able to return, as I’m not willing to eat cold food again. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Stunning food every single time and very fairly priced. Atmosphere for evening dinner is perfect, but also do one of the best Sunday lunches I’ve had. Service is also always brilliant and chefs are clearly very talented

Habiendo sido recomendado este como un lugar para comer en Cardiff ambos estábamos deseando. Recibimos una bienvenida amable y llevado a nuestro asiento por un servidor charlatán. Dado menús y a la izquierda para decidir lo que queríamos. Después de unos 20 minutos no habíamos tenido un servidor de vuelta para tomar ni un paseo de bebidas ni comida tan educadamente preguntó a un servidor si podíamos pedir. Pasaron otros diez minutos y se tomó el orden. Rodar por otros 20 y no hay señales de bebidas, así que de nuevo tuvo que perseguir a estos. Nuestro primer plato de comida llegó antes de las bebidas, así que fue enviado de vuelta. Llegaron bebidas seguidas de nuestra comida que estaba deliciosa. En general, la comida era sabrosa y lo disfrutamos. La decepción para nosotros fue el mal servicio y la falta de atención del personal. El restaurante no estaba particularmente ocupado, por lo que el personal estaba sobrecargado. ¿Regresaríamos? No con otras opciones disponibles en Cardiff.

This is a lovely restaurant and a great spot for couples or bigger groups. Must book as it gets busy. The food was lovely and there was a lot of choice. Staff were friendly and quite reasonable for the quality.

In all honesty it’s a great little venue and I would recommend anyone visiting in Cardiff to go and visit especially on a Monday night with live music , one female member of staff out of a few was very hostile and rude but outside of that fantastic place !

We had an excellent meal here and it couldn’t be improved. Each dish was amazing and not too pricey, with quality ingredients. The staff were very friendly and attentive, and happy to answer any questions. The atmosphere was warm and cosy - couldn’t recommend enough.

Really poor service from staff and management. Dani or Danny the manager was rude, unresponsive and dismissive of concerns we had during our visit. He did not seem capable of managing the establishment despite numerous well mannered discussions. He eventually threw us out and wanted to get us beyond the CCTV so that nothing was covered

We had the Sunday roast, you can choose from a sharing platter and then have the option to order small plates/side dishes if you want to. We didn’t need to do that as it was plenty for two of us, the meat was perfectly cooked and the rest of the food was outstanding. We also had a starter of manchego cheese with honey and crackers, then cured chorizo. All of the food was delicious and I’d love to go back for more of the tapas! Definitely recommend booking in advance though.

Fantastic meal and service last night in Bar 44 Cardiff. Great variety of dishes, amazing dark chocolate and sherry ice cream and fab wine. We also too part in their roll the dice deal and got 44% off our bill. Result!

Came here with my parents for a social dining evening. The vibe was great, felt like an underground Spanish barn. We had lots of different food, my favourites were prawn bisque rice, Jamon Iberico, ox cheek and Cecina Caesar Will definitely be back

Nunca estoy decepcionado con el bar 44 en el que la comida es un lugar. Tuve una gran noche. Mi postre era inusual y no para mí. No me quejé porque necesitas ser aventurero, pero le hice saber al personal que no me gustaba. Sin preguntar, se llevaron el 50% del desierto, lo que aprecio. Recomiendo encarecidamente este lugar. Nunca tuve una mala comida allí. El servicio es impecable. Me encanta apoyar a las empresas locales. El mejor lugar para cenar. El personal es muy amable. Muy recomendable.

Amazing food, nice vibe and great service. Unfortunately, we were charged a different price for wine than was on the menu. An apparent typo on the weekly specials drove us to order a bottle of wine because it was a great deal, but unfortunately the manager did not honour that price and charged the full price (even though we wouldn’t have ordered at the full price). They gave us a book instead of honouring it, but the whole thing left a sour taste in my mouth and probably will never go back. Unfortunate end to a great meal… Still, I would highly recommend trying it out if you like Spanish tapas and are in Cardiff. Just beware of pricing typos…

Fuimos cortados por Mo, él fue transferido de penarth ese día y vaya qué diferencia hizo en nuestra experiencia. Era divertido, enérgico, profesional y simplemente un anfitrión fantástico. Tendría varios clones de Mo si pudieras. Él estaba en ella, nunca estuvimos esperando para br servido, utilizó su intivie y fue rápido. Fantástico servicio al cliente Gracias Mo.

We had friends visit from Australia and so we decided to treat them to a meal here as our previous visits have been very enjoyable. Unfortunately it was a very disappointing experience, the restaurant wasn’t very busy, so there was no ambience, we were seated at a table at the back, this had three big lights above it so it felt we were under spotlights. The one positive was the waitress was very good, but when we ordered our wine another waiter came to the table with it already opened and just put in the middle of the table and walked away. My friend from Australia said ‘looks like we are pouring our own wine then’. I would have at least expected them to pour the first glass for us or give one of the group a taste to make sure we were happy with it. So on to the menu, all I can say is that compared to previous visits it was extremely restricted, just one A4 sheet of paper. I can understand that on a quiet Wednesday night in Cardiff you may have to have a smaller menu, but this should be explained when you book it. The food was ok, but nothing that would get me to rush back. Unfortunately Bar 44 has now lost one of its customers, I doubt whether I will return.

The friendliness and authenticity on show here makes it a very difficult to see past this lovely venue as the best tapas spot in Cardiff. The quality of the food and speed of service is second to none, the drinks menu is extensive yet also fantastic in its simplicity (not easy to accomplish by the way) and the staff here just effortlessly make you feel welcome and at ease from start to finish. Don't bother thinking about this place, just do it!

Lovely experience at Bar 44 for a friend’s birthday! We had the lunch deal which was amazing value. Great service and really tasty Spanish tapas.

Great little spot for tapas! food is lovely, with a wide variety of tapas dishes that were both delicious and good value for money. Service was also super quick so you can order more as you go if you like. Only downside for me was the lack of good dessert options. Highly Recomend the Croquetas, Sobrasada tostada and 44 Duck Pringa.

Well presented restaurant with good atmosphere. We had delightful service from a lovely young lady who was also well informed. The menu was so enticing but we managed to choose; sobrasada tostada, wild prawn rice, ox cheek, Jamon croquetas and manchego with rosemary honey. It was all absolutely sublime; the flavours, the presentation etc. Excellent bottle of Spanish white wine. Just the perfect lunch and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend and return.

We loved some of the dishes - beetroot salata and tortillas were brilliant, same as chicken and St Jacques. Steak was a bit disappointing mainly due to the quality of the meat itself. Overall - very pleasant experience, Thank you for having us.

Great Sunday roast. Beef was cooked to perfection and the pork was tasty too. The cauliflower with manchego cheese and the chorizo on the Yorkshire puddings were both divine. The desserts are always delicious. On the downside the vegetarian option was very disappointing. I understand that there is meat in the manchego cheese but to serve the cauliflower dry with no sauce is very poor, there are plenty of vegetarian cheese alternatives. Also, to charge us for extra gravy is annoying especially when this was not explained to us on request. Lastly the service wasn’t great, some of the staff were very pleasant, others were rather rude. We weren’t greeted with a friendly welcome and the staff member who took our order was very abrupt. The service on the whole was very slow, it took a long time order mains, and again to order desserts. We then had to request our bill and the card machine several times to pay. It seemed like our table was constantly forgotten about. Overall I would recommend the meat roast, but definitely not the vegetarian option and the service really does need to improve when you’re paying over £40pp plus service charge

An impressive range of cocktails, served by excellent staff who were very knowledgable of drinks and ingredients. The interior was very attractive and well designed. We will certainly visit again.

The Sunday roast to share is top notch. Everything about the whole meal was of a high quality. I opted for the beef, and it was fine choice. Lovely cut and melt in the mouth sensation.

A very lovely meal , every dish was absolutely delicious. The whipped manchego on the sharing plate was really good! The chorizo was really soft and flavourful, and we loved the tortilla. The food was better than ever. We were served by Jemma a very friendly and helpful waitress who made great suggestions on ordering including this sourdough bread topped with some chorizo flavoured spread and honey it tasted like. It was really lovely!

Our Sunday roast at Bar 44 was fantastic. From the gracious greeting at the door, lovely and professional waitress, to the warm goodbye every part of our Sunday afternoon was perfect. Horseradish aioli! Hell yeah. Melty beef, super cheesy leeks and lovely veg. And the gravy was excellent. And the margaritas, wine, service, atmosphere. I used to work in a very popular London gastro pub that was praised for its Sunday roasts. This was far superior. £22 per person? You can’t get much for that now. Well done team. See you soon!

Wow. We chose this restaurant after watching Remarkable places to eat and seeing Asador 44 on there. As soon as we saw there was another restaurant as part of the Asador family we had to try it. The food was absolutely incredible. The service was amazing, the servers were so friendly and knowledgeable about the food. I honestly wish we lived in Cardiff as I would eat here at least once a week. The dishes were really good value and absolutely incredible.

We had a music concert in the stadium so decided to book bar 44 and it did not disappoint! Very handy as it’s so close to stadium so was a perfect choice of location for drinks and food to fuel us. The food and drinks were outstanding and a very high quality. The service was impeccable and nothing too much bother for the staff. Highly recommend couldn’t fault it at all. Can’t wait to return very soon.

Wonderful tapas lunch with plenty of gluten free options. Staff very helpful and friendly. If I could change one thing, it would be to make the 'fish of the day' a simple dish with oil/herbs rather than in batter which excludes coeliac. We loved the Artichoke and Boquerone dishes in particular.

Already been once, again a fantastic, well priced roast dinner, Amelia was a great waitress, great beer selection, would highly recommend! 10/10 would come for again.

I booked the table at 530, but we arrived early. Notice there were a lunch deal that serve till 530, including 1 drink and 3 tapas. It was a very good deal for £2x. We ordered 2 lunch meals and added wild prawn rice and Jamon iberico de bellota. My favourite is the cripsy market fish and the sourdough. The wild prawn rice was slightly too salty. But everything else was good!

Tapas are small portions / racions. While the food was good, for what it was it was expensive. Staff were nice but the add a 10% service charge to the bill as standard which was nearly £40 for our table of 7

We come here quite often on a Sunday. Our 11yr old son is autistic and very sensitive to noise, so we book early, and ask for a quiet table. We always have a lovely time with excellent food, service and no drama. Thank you Going out for us takes a lot of preparation and planning so it’s nice to know we can go somewhere and enjoy a family meal.

Went for a family Sunday lunch, and we were really impressed. Best Sunday lunch we have ever had, with plenty of food. Good service as well. Not cheap, but well worth it. Will definitely go again.

A treasure in Cardiff whether for drinks, tapas or as today a Sunday roast. I really appreciate the choices on the wine list, the pride and care shown in the food that's presented and always a lovely atmosphere there. Highly recommend it.

My partner and I were really disappointed by our experience here. We called in for a bottle of wine as the place looked cosy. The wine was quite expensive but we accepted that. What we didn't like, however, was that a service charge of over £2.00 was automatically applied. We were very unhappy with this because we don't agree with automatic service charges - we will decide when, and if, we pay a tip. And, actually, the service was poor. Our bottle was brought over and 'plonked' on our table with 2 glasses - there was no conversation and the wine wasn't poured for us. We told the server to remove the service charge, from the bill, and we explained our reasons. But, it all felt very uncomfortable and we feel we shouldn't have been put in this situation. There are plenty of other cosy bars in the centre of Cardiff who don't apply an automatic service charge and who we actually choose to tip, so why would we return here or recommend it to anyone?

Usually bar 44 is one of our favourite places to eat, but were so disappointed with the food this time. Went in about 6pm on a Thursday, hardly anyone there, and it felt cold. The food wasn’t great. The mushrooms with chickpeas were dry, and it was difficult to get a knife through them - like rubber. chicken was ok, pork belly lovely, patatas bravas gone down hill, and even the bread wasn’t as good. olives not the same. won’t be going back for a long time.

We popped in for lunch. I have been before and it was good so I took the wife she had never been. The menu looked good but that’s where the positives end. The food was bland and most of it was re-heated so was dry. The red prawns were awful over cooked and woolly. The servers were not very interested. I would not return as there are far better options in cardiff.

Absolutely fantastic Sunday lunch! My other half and I went out for a secondary anniversary dinner after our original meal the day before was disappointing. Bar 44 staff were lovely, the ambience was brilliant the food was faultless. Great place- DELICIOUS

What a brilliant place, went for lunch with friends and although it was very busy the atmosphere and service was spot on. A great choice of tapas dishes which were all really tasty and good portion sizes. Staff were friendly and knowledgeable and service was prompt without being rushed. Will be back very soon.

I don't often go here to write a less than complimentary review, but here we go, unfortunately this time. My husband and I went to Bar 44 last year; he is a vegetarian. The menu in 44 was limited, but was quite nice, and as it turned out, we had a good meal, with nice wine. This time, a trip to Cardiff a year later we returned. The vegetarian options were tasteless, limited, and really absolutely without flavour or imagination. The only good thing in my experience was the waiter, who was gorgeous. And that's the only positive. You might also need to know that the hike on the wine is, shall we say, significant. Oh! and by the way, a service charge is applied. One of my bugbears. But that's, just me! The Indian restaurant in the Brewery Quarter is fabulous, and cheaper!!

Nipped in for lunch, great as always. Top quality / top service 3 tapas and a drink for £20, with clearly the best produce used it honestly is a steal. A wonderful and now historic venue within Cardiff Keep doing what your doing

My friend booked this gem on the recommendation of his parents, so we traveled down last week. After a delayed train we made it just in time- what a great experience, so so worth it! The dishes are presented wonderfully and arrive to the table in a staggered fashion which keeps you going for a long time and the cocktails were amazing. A very busy environment but when it tastes like this its not a surprise every table is full! Served by a wonderful man named Chris who provided plenty of laughs to us and the surrounding tables, what an asset to the company, great customer service!! As were the other staff who attended to our needs. Will definitely be back!

What a wonderful Sunday lunch. Chris who served our table was absolutely fabulous and looked after us from start to finish. Oh my days, the cauliflower cheese was blinking amazing as was the giant Yorkshire pudding. Great atmosphere, great food and outstanding service made for the perfect afternoon

Service was brilliant and we were so glad we asked for recommendations for wine and number/choice of dishes. Great environment and authentic quality Spanish food. Everything is amazing, specially the arroz meloso and the croquetas. The only reason why I don’t give them 5 stars is because the portions are small, even for tapas. Everything else is great.

Came here with the girls for my birthday - great restaurant and the food is stunning.

This was disappointing from start to finish. We are lovers of all things Spanish, including tapas, and were looking forward to an authentic experience. The food has no sense of authenticity about it sadly. Mass produced, lacking in flavour and delivered to the table in a disinterested manner. The whole experience was as if nobody cared. The only acceptable part of the time there was the beer - try a 1906 or Estrella Galicia. To add insult to injury the prices for the quality of food are outrageous. I understand that a tapa is a small plate but it should be bursting with flavour and not the best part of a tenner. There are other places in town doing it far better.
