Had high expectations for this place but were quite disappointed with both the food and the service. The staff members both seemed a bit grumpy and distracted as they took our order and weren't particularly friendly. We got 4 bao buns - the pork ones were decent, however, the other two just weren't as advertised. The "oyster mushrooms" were just cheap sliced button mushrooms. It also didn't seem to have all the toppings as advertised. The most disappointing one was the prawn katsu. It was advertised as being served with pickled cucumber and a lime and chilli mayo. The bun contained one small breaded prawn, a few bits of dry lettuce, grated carrot and a bit of garlic mayo. We understand that places can run out of things and need to make substitutions, but it would have been nice if they'd let us know when we ordered that the dishes wouldn't be as per the menu. It just all felt a bit cheap and bland and not the quality I'd expect for the price. We left feeling pretty disappointed.

After jumping off the train I headed straight up to the market and this place for lunch. Two baos I decided to go for were the Korean BBQ pork and the Peking duck along with veg&chicken gyozas. Baos were the better half of the meal, really tasty and well filled - not too sweet either and hit the spot! Gyozas were, as previously mentioned just better than OK as they were deep fried. All in all still a positive experience and I thought good value for a quick lunch. Would return.

For the price, this place isn't really worth it. Its good, but its not the authenticity and flavour I expect for bao buns. You can get better more authentic bao buns for cheaper in Newcastle The gyoza are good but deep fried gyoza is very weird. Normally its either pan fried or steamed. The sauce that comes with the gyoza is just soy sauce which isn't normally what you would have with gyoza. The metal seats are wildly uncomfortable and in dire need of cushions

It is a very nice place in the grainger market to enjoy some delicious bao buns. The service was fast, and the price was decent. All in all, I recommend it for a quick and tasty bite.

Had bao buns. You get to pick 2 for the price and they can have different fillings. Was tasty and liked the concept of seeing how my food is prepared.

Delicious. But a bit stingy on the portion sizes, for vegetarians at least - for £8.50 I'd like more than 3 bits of tofu in my curry/on my loaded fries.

I took my little lad out for the day today (I don’t get much time with him these days after his mother left me) and we stumbled upon this hidden gem in the grainger market. The sweet aromas of Asia caught me upon turning the corner and I knew this was the place for me. The server and chef megan was absolutely fantastic, and she wasn’t bad at her job either. We each sampled some bao buns and gyozas and we weren’t disappointed. Absolutely beautiful Reuben. Tell your friends. Get down to bao down.

The bao buns were the best I've had. Korean pork and pekking duck were my two sampled but there's a wider selection of bao as well as gyoza and dressed chips. My partner had the katsu prawn and pekingese duck bao. The gentleman serving was very friendly and service was quick even during the lunch rush.

Located in the indoor market of Grainger Market, the place is small but very clean and the dishes are excellent. Friendly staff. Excellent value for money. A delicious lunch that is worth it! After eating you can stroll calmly through the streets of the covered market sheltered from the rain. Highly recommended!

First time trying this place after several times passing and have to say the food was tremendous. I tried the Korean bbq pulled pork loaded fries and they were delicious. The fries were well seasoned and crispy whilst there was plenty of sauces and a tonne of pulled pork. Packed with flavours and lots of meat and the guy serving was very cheerful. Overall fantastic place to grab a quick bite and will be returning to try the gyozas and bao buns.

We stopped off here whilst wandering Grainger Market and thought we would try some bao buns. My wife was also drawn to the katsu chicken. Unfortunately they had only just opened and didn’t have any rice yet so my wife went for the katsu chicken with chips instead. The guys that served us were very friendly and chill. They clearly have a passion for food because we could here them chatting about different food creations that they could try. The service was also pretty quick. We liked how they had some interesting fillings of buns. We went with bbq Korean pork, crispy peking duck, katsu chicken & teriyaki chicken. Now, bao buns are often a hit or a miss but these are top notch! My favourite was the duck, closely followed by the pork but all buns had a perfect texture and the fillings were fresh and delicious. The loaded katsu chicken fries were very good!! The caramelisation on the chicken was wonderful and the sauce was so tasty! The chips were also pretty good. You often find with loaded fries that too much emphasis is put on the filling and the chips themselves are disappointing but these were quality! The only slight criticism is the price. You could argue £9.50 for 2 bao buns is quite steep but it was that tasty that I can’t complain. They also gyozas with a mixture of fillings. We’ll maybe give them a try next time.

Meh. Looking forward to it but my Vegan oyster mushroom and tofu bao was fairly bland and over dominated by hoisin sauce. There was no contrast in flavours. Some pickles and chillis on top might have helped. At £9 or was it £9.50 it was expensive for what it was and I left feeling hungry.
Jo Peattie . 2023-03-02

Shockingly expensive for what you get. Two bao with a shortage of filling for £9 is unreasonable. They make it sound even more expensive by selling 'loaded chips' for £8.50 which just makes chips sound really, really expensive. If they sold Korean pork with chips, even if it was the same, it would sound less overpriced. Put the focus on the pork, etc. and not the chips. Get off the bandwagon!

Without fail, some of the rudest and most incompetent staff you will experience in Newcastle. Will be lucky if they give you more than a grunt. Food is OK, nothing to really write home about - definitely not worth the price.

Food was really good. However, the lady with the black hair behind the counter had a disgusting attitude. With the cardboard box for the bao buns, I went inside to thank the lady for my food. Instead I was questioned why I am bringing my rubbish inside when she was stood right next to the bin. Smile darlin, can’t be that bad.

Live music on Saturday was amazing, full of 90's rock songs that bring back such nestalgia, just sad we only heard the last half an hour. Drink prices were very good, all round exciting and friendly atmosphere! We will be coming back next Saturday at 9 pm Sharp for the band starting 😀 so few hang outs for rock lovers now, well worth a visit!
