Bankers Express in Brighton and Hove

Very fresh and tasty food, cod and chips lunchtime special is a great deal. We have been three times now and we’ve had great food every time

I did a click and collect order here. Ordered some chicken nuggets and chips. The chicken had obviously been cooked from frozen and had not been cooked properly, was still rock hard in the middle. Called up to complain and was told I’d be refunded the amount for the nuggets. I have not received the refund.

Had a takeaway from here. Excellent portion size and very tasty. Very impressed by their gluten free options, very tasty and cooked completely separately and my celiac husband had no after effects. The gluten free options came clearly labelled in different packaging. Thank you.

I know costs have gone up across the board but seven quid for a tiny piece of fish. This is Hove, not Monaco! Might be acceptable if the quality was very good, but it was bang average at best. Skin left on the poor quality fish too. What sort of fish and chip shop does that!

Only came in for a large portion of chips. Had them double cooked as they are generally thin white and raw. Has them wrapped. Felt light. Took them home. Opened them and we got a small tray with small portion chips. Be careful. Double cooked and crunchy was good though.

the worst fish nd chips we had in a long time at bankers hove , chips not cooked , portion rather small, well at least seagulls enjoyed them

Needed quick service before going on somewhere -got it, freshly-cooked. Five haddock and chips and a battered sausage and chips were all excellent. My wife's from Grimsby so she knows her fish - and it's not often that the fish and the chips are both excellent

We always bought our F&C from Bankers as it is really good. We went in to get a takeaway yesterday but our daughter is vegetarian. Fortunately, we thought, they have a good veggie selection. Beware: The vegetarian options are cooked in the same oil as the fish and probably the chicken. Needless to say, we didn't order anything and won't be going back.

Went there today on the way home from work ordered a number of items for a family dinner got home missing one meal and a sauce had to go back up there get my missing items time I got back my fish and chips cold and me and the person missing their order ate separately . Not much of a family meal . Will not go back second time I have had issues . Will go to the Athena B in boundary round nicer food and much better staff . ( Also better value)

Very inconsistent tonight was not good haddock was cold and soggy and had obviously been cooked for an earlier order very disappointing

Really surprised at the poor reviews here. We had an order of 17 meals that we had preordered. Every one of them was correct and every one of them was delicious. Best chips I’ve had in a long time! And fantastic service. Highly recommend!

Not the first time they have my order wrong it will be the last, this time served me a chicken burger when I am vegetarian and ordered the vegetarian option!! Took me to bite into it to realise so unhappy I would avoid!

The large Cod didn't have a lot of cod inside the batter. The fish was swimming in grease. The staff didn't seem to know what they were doing and certainly weren't friendly. Stick to Blatchingtons up the road.

Awful experience of receiving over cooked hard chips, fish not fresh and overpriced. Quality awful. Many better chip shops in the area. Avoid here.

Excellent fish and nice large cut chips consider it one of the best batters I have had very light and not greasy. Good service and happy to make a poached fish for those of us on diets. Tea also good if you are eating in!

I popped in for chicken and chips. The best friend chicken in Brighton - no doubts. Simple no fuss food at reasonable prices. whats not to love?!

Good restaurant for good old English fish and chips. There were other choices also Quite a good selection of sides etc. Quite easy to put your meal together Freshly cooked on the premises. Very clean Take away also available Friendly service

Nice haddock, the wife had a pie which was great, the chips could of had a little more crisp but that's a preference thing, the curry sauce was brill. They did however forget our mushy peas, that was the only let down.

We have always has great Fish & Chips from Bankers, when Bankers express opened we were delighted to receive the same good quality!

Fantastic location, traditional decor in subtly modern style.There’s a great variety of fish on the menu, cooked in many different styles, if one does not want to go for the oily, fried option. The fish is delicious, the portions are very generous, served with a smile.

This place should be better than it is. It's alwways busy and seems to be very popular. The one in Western Road is always packed out and this one is equally busy. I think the food is over rated and over priced , I hope it will get better.

These guys are consistently good considering how busy they can get. Food is always fresh and you get decent portions as well. All the staff are friendly & professional. Michael the manager is always on top of things making sure standards always remain high.................shame they don't do gravy:)

Delicious fish and chips, tastes fresh and made pretty quick. Would recommend the chicken burger too, but the staff can be a bit of a let down, there's one girl in particular who has a right moody face on her everytime not even so much as a hello escapes her frowning mouth!

We always visit Bankers Fish and chip when in Brighton and Hove. Good fresh fish, good portions, freshly cooked, and served with a smile. Eat in or out. Take your order to the beach and enjoy the view. Try it and see.

El personal era agradable y muy servicial. Tienen una promoción de 11 - 4 almuerzos, 4 libras. 95 para un plato de pescado (bacalao) y patatas fritas, que es bastante abundante. En cuanto a la calidad es bastante buena, mejor no excesivamente gruesas y el pescado estaba raro.

Just fancied some Haddock and had been to Bankers before and lived it. Definitely not disappointed as the fish was fresh, if good size, very tasty and covered in a perfect batter. I forewent the chips and had the fish with a salad. At first site the Salad looked dull, being no more than lettuce, tomato and onion. But I was pleasantly surprised by how fresh and tasty it was.This is primarily a fish and chip establishment so don't expect fancy decor. But that said, it is clean and has some interesting pictures of old Brighton to enjoy.Definitely recommended for fish and chip fans.

Went to Banker to night,the chips were awful,soggy, tasteless,some looked as if they had been refried a few times,chicken was dry and tasteless.batted sausage was horrible.curry sauce had no taste,may as well poured a lot of gloop on the food.Most went into the bin,no need to say I won't go again..

We have a regular take out from here of cod and chips. Always fresh and hot. High quality fish and yummy chips.

Unfortunately my experience of a take away was very disappointing. It seemed like organised chaos behind the counter. I ordered half a chicken and chips. The chips were extremely greasy and the chicken tasteless and dry. My stomach was upset for the next day possibly due o the overly greased chips. I will not ever recommend bankers!!!!

Went here tonight. Fish and chips ok but nothing special and service not express by any means. Nice staff apart from manager who was rude.

We wanted some local fish and chips that weren't over priced like they are at the seafront. We rang to place our order and it was ready 20 minutes later for pickup. Great quality and reasonably priced too. Well worth it

Before chips come out to the customer; try a fat one first. Then you will be certain they are nice and crispy.Don't keep loading the fryer without removing the scrag ends of small pieces.The batter on the cod was so crunchy on the skin side it made the top feeling like it had been just shown the pan; but wasn't and watched it go into the oil and back out again?The first face I was greeted with was nice and smiley but when they changed hands; I was left with someone more interested about a potential holiday coming up. With no handover I was left with a not really giving much of a "have you been served"? I was the only person in there and 2 others had only just walked in.Management failure!

Twice a week Bankers cook gluten free fish and chip, which is truly delicious and well worth the travel or visit

£2 for a few chips? Only went to Bankers for the convenience of it being on the way home. The chips are no more than average either. Will walk 10 minutes further to Wolfies next time.

Great Fish and Chips in this new restaurant, just as good as there other restaurant in the old bank in Western Rd

Arrived tired and very hungry on Tuesday night. After a short wait received an excellent crispy cod and chips meal with mushy peas. Definitely filled the gap.

Came in, great friendly staff, waited five minutes for my cod, really nice crisp batter, chips cooked fresh too!

went just before the evening rush on a cold afternoon. Good service. Freshly fried fish and chips. Chips were crisp and dry, the best we've had for a long time and the batter was nice and light. Side orders are expensive (eg over £1 for mushy peas) but soft drinks are reasonably priced. Staff helpful and friendly. place looked nice and clean. This place does get very busy and then wheelchair access is hard because entrance is cramped as it is a small place. Overall, best fish and chip,place in the area and almost as good as Harpers up north.

Firstly, I have to say it is great that gluten free fish and chips are available on Mondays and Tuesdays. The batter was delicious. What I did find a bit disappointing was the fact that the skin was left on the fish under the batter. Being a coeliac, I am very new to eating battered fish, and all the other restaurants I have tried which offer gluten free, all serve skinned fish. The "eat-in" area at the rear of the shop was very clean, but quite chilly with the door to the shop being wide open.I am not quite sure how to ask the question below of whether the restaurant has waiters/waitresses. To clarify, you order at the counter and the food is cooked and brought out to your table.

Real old fashioned "fish & chip" shop. A few tables and chairs at the back. When we went, the food was cooked to order. My haddock in crispy batter with real chips was delicious. Even the mushy peas were really tasty! This is not "fine dining", but for a tasty meal, it is brilliant and very good value. Must not forget the service, which was cheerful and attentive.

The Chip Basket was a Hove institution and when it closed and was taken over by a company called Fish & Chick it was not a change for the better.But since Bankers have taken over it serves the best chips in Hove by a country mile.Always freshly cooked and always excellent.

I went in and ordered and paid for a large cod, chips and a chicken and mushroom pie for myself and a friend. I waited for around 10 minutes then a member of staff said that they had sold the (last) pie I had bought to someone who came in after me. I couldn't believe the ineptitude of the staff. I was given a refund for the pie but it meant one of us didn't have any dinner. I had to go to a local ship and buy something. I'll never come here again and would not recommend it.

Bankers express var ett mycket bra alternativ efter en lång dags resande till Hove. Mycket mat till ett bra pris, och god fish and chips. Schysst personal!

This is just a very typical local chippy; not entirely sure who was expecting a gourmet restaurant, but these are probably going to be some of the best chips you'll find in town.

We went here for lunch and although from the outside it is dressed up like a nice restaurant, the food was more in line with a local takeaway. Except expect to pay more than £4 for fish and chips!

Have eaten here many times , the food is always of good quality and serves exactly what it you want proper Fish and Chips , as well as a more varied menu to cover all tastes

I got take away from here with my boyfriend and his family. We took it away and ate on the beach. I had scampi and chips, with curry sauce, all was very good and I had enough to eat for lunch and for dinner as well! Good portion sizes and served in a box which made it easy to carry and keep for later.

Tastes like fish not too much batter really fresh. the spit roasted chicken is also very moist and tasty.

Bankers do great thick handout chips, fish cooked and battered lightly to perfection and prompt service. It is an occasion we look forward to, popping in for dinner and its a struggle to stop eating. The staff are always friendly and helpful.Keep up the excellent work

Have been going to the original Bankers in Brighton for years, aLways good quality. This version in Hove has benefit of parking outside and 2 miles closer. Large portions fresh cooked to order, pleasant staff with a sense of humour. Good customer service and good food, an excellent combination

I went to the fish and chip shop this wednesday just gone and i had a large haddock i did have to wait for it to be freshly cooked but thats was fine with me while i was waiting a big group of people walked in but the lady (Ilona) behind the counter seemed like she had everything under control also the gentelmen (michael) who was frying and Ilona seemed to have everything sorted they looked like a good team together one helping other, both smiling, very friendly with the costumers & they even had time to have a little chat with each of them. i had my food to take away, even when i got back to my hotel the fish was still warm and beautifuly cooked, tasted absolutely gorgeous im definitely going to go there more while im down and i would definitely recommend it to everyone.

So you're in the mood for fish and chips and you're around the Hove lawns. Avoid the rest and head straight here. Yes some of the staff are rude...though if you were serving fish and chips all day in your feet would you be smiling? Especially with annoying tourists? If you put that to the side and you're talking food, it's better than 90% of London chippies to put it in perspective.

For non greasy fish and chips with a great taste try Bankers. There may be others but the quality seems quite consistent. Friendly happy staff and worth a try!

Best fish and chips I have ever had. Everything was amazing. I had a small cod, small chips, curry sauce and mushy peas which came to £8.20. If I'd have got the same here in London it'd have been more and of a lower standard. The fish was so fresh and tasty. Chips were fresh and not soggy and the mushy peas and curry sauce come in cute little pots that don't spill everywhere! Will deffo be coming here again and again. Pity it's two hours from where I live!!

Smaller portions than its previous incarnation as fish'n'chick'n. Probably the smallest amount of chips I've been served in Brighton. The kids meals are smaller than they used to be too, but adequate.Service was chatty and friendly.Food was all good. I'd buy from them again, but wouldn't go out of my way to visit.

We found this Restaurant and wanted to try their Take Away, their Opening Times and great. We went there on Sunday just after midday. Very polite and helpful staff and our order was soon completed. I had Plaice and Chips, and the batter was the best I have ever tasted, as it was not greasy but crisp and light. My Partner had Steak and Kidney which was great and very tasty. The chips were well cooked and taste was better than other local Fish and Chips shops. We want to try their Large Party Menu which they will deliver etc.

The place was conveniently located next to the hotel where I was staying, so that helped. They serve nice fish (not only fried, you can order it griled if you like) and ok chips (coming from teh Netherlands, probably I'm not the best one to judge).

I visited this restaurant at 8 pm on the 3rd June. I chose the large cod over the haddock and chips, and added mushy peas as a side order. I sat alone in the restaurant area apart from one couple. The fish itself was a good, chunky steak of cod, cooked in a crisp batter. The chips were nothing special, but they were freshly cooked. The problem lay with the mushy peas. On the first mouthful I became aware of a curious, subtle but pungent aftertaste which was positively unpleasant. I tasted it twice more and then elected to leave the rest of the pot. I chose not to raise the matter with the management at that stage as I wanted to enjoy the rest of the meal, and I did not want to be bothered with the hassle of trying another pot which I felt sure might also be similarly unpalatable. But at the end of the meal I called over the waiter, and, prefacing my remarks by saying that this was "No big deal", I explained the problem. "That's been made here fresh today with peas and water. That's all that's in it" - as if that was an entirely adequate response to my complaint. Undeterred I went into greater detail, telling this slightly combative individual that it almost tasted as if it was slightly fermented, and that it was genuinely and positively unpleasant - there was "something wrong with it". "No, that's fresh, made here today, just peas and water" was his repeated response, totally ignoring the fact that either the peas or the water could have been contaminated, or the pot I had been served might inadvertently have been a couple of days old. And also totally ignoring the basic principle that it is not worth alienating a reasonable and courteous patron for the sake of the refunded cost of a pot of mushy peas. So there was no offer of a refund, and neither was their any offer of respect for my reasonable and considered opinion. Disgraceful. So if you like your perfectly good fish and okay chips with a large portion of slightly offensive, head-strong disrespect, then Bankers Express is the restaurant for you.

Don't get me wrong, it wasn't bad, but compared to the Bankers in Western Road, it just seemed a little pre-packed, over-priced and well... average. Now with Wolfies open, I know where I'll be going in the future.

After a few beers at a local decided Bankers was for us. Had the mixed seafood starter, no calamari, so was offered extra scampi. White bait was too deep fried for me, but scampi was better. Cod and chips for main. Fish nice, chips just a little dry. All in all okay.

In Hove fancied fish&chips, tripadvisor recommended Bankers which was close to where we were staying we were not disappointed. I had haddock which had a thin crispy batter, fab big fat chip shop chips, hubby had huss which he loved, all freshly cooked, very efficient, friendly staff, great value meal. Will most definitely visit again if in that area. Also shared 2 different prawn starters, both really tasty & offered a wide range of sauces/dips to go with.

there were really nice people Liam and Sam who got along really well and were very helpful, I had the Savolhoy with chips, DAMN I need it again some of the best food ive ever had I will defiantly be returning on my next visit to England Brighton. It is way better than the fish'n'chickn it has changed so much and is a worthy contender for the best chip shop

Fish excellent.Batter excellent.Chips excellent.Fish and chips chefs/fryers friendly.Only problem is the very bad and unfriendly attitude of one of the girls wrapping and taking your order.Not a thank you, have a nice day not a smile.Was so disrespectful to an elderly customer I nearly cancelled my order and ready to walk out.Shame because everything else was good.

Went for lunch on a Saturday. Had to wait for a bit. Chips ok and batter on fish was a bit oily. Not bad but have had better,

Was worried that the quality would suffer when Bankers took over from the Chip Basket but I am pleased to say that this has not been the case. Fantastic quality with fish that melts in your mouth. Be warned however, the prices have gone up considerably since Bankers took over. Nevertheless, they still offer good value for money.

Not much to say here great hot food, fish top notch, chicken burger bang on, tea & coffee great, with a value for money price, shall be visiting as many times as I dare.
