Early in the week so quieter, the front of house could do with a smile on his face. The first lot of poppadom's were soft obviously been lying. The second lot were better, the pickle tray was fine. The main meal was ok with the portion size being good. I would go back again to see if any improvements were made and try another dish.

Eaten here a couple of times before and it was nice so we decided to eat here last week while on a commercial diving job in the area. Nice restaurant and decor, good menu, food was very good and decent portion sizes too. But extremely expensive, and very slow service. We ordered drinks and the waiter then sat hunched over his phone for 15 minutes, only bringing us our drinks after bring prompted twice

Was our first time coming here and really enjoyed the food, the popadoms and pickle tray starter was lovely, for mains we had dansak and jalfrezi both with chicken tikka and both were lovely. Naan bread and rice were great too. Atmosphere could do with a slight improvement, even the music slightly louder so we didn’t feel quite alone would make a huge improvement. All in all really enjoyed the evening. (The waiter even went out his way to get pink Prosecco) will definitely go back here

Please read a lot of these reviews before considering going. Onion chutney was a chopped onion without seasoning or anything added. Chicken pakora was stodgy and in batter with no spice (sure from Iceland which is actually an insult to Iceland ) No sauce or flavour and £8.50 was disgusting and tasteless so decided to complain. The owner was very rude to us so because to this we decided to pay for what we’d eaten or not eaten and left. The poorest meal and service I have ever experienced and will remember for all the wrong reasons. £12.50 for king prawn starter which was 3 prawns and not KING. £7.95 bottle Cobra lager. Avoid.

Checked other reviews prior to going and was met by a sour faced front of house staff elder gentleman who certainly didn’t make us feel welcome. Almost grudgingly showed us a table. It felt he preferred to do take away so he doesn’t have to work! Just about walked out at that point but it was my wife’s birthday treat so stayed. Glad we stayed as the food was exceptional and despite the lack of welcome and bad service the food made up for it. If it wasn’t for the food it would have been one star and would have wanted to give five stars for food as that would be deserved. Not a nice experience to feel unwanted in hospitality setting and wonder how much longer it will stay open as a dine in with staff as bad as this. However, he did sort out my wife’s left overs into a doggy bag to take way. Use as a take away as food is excellent, if you dine in ignore the grumpy, sour faced elder staff member that spoils the possibilities of a food place that has excellent food. No need for such bad service.

I ordered our takeaway meal ( for two) this evening at 5.30pm and was informed the said meal would be ready for collection in 25 minutes ( I.E. 5.55pm). We collected it at 5.50pm ( 5 minutes earlier than suggested). Oh dear- the 2main meals were COLD as was the Peshwari Naans( 2). My guests’ chicken Chasni had FAR too much “ oil” in it. Anyway- rather than write an unfavourable review( as I am NOW doing!) I rang the shop to explain all this. The recipient of the call was uninterested, unhelpful and ungrateful for the call, even though I explained to HIM that I was affording him the courtesy of giving me an explanation- rather than complaining online. To NO AVAIL!!! Can’t POSSIBLY recommend this unforgivable “ customer service” to anyone.

The appreciation of a good meal should be in the flavour of a dish, it might looks like a dog dinner but taste should be paramount. My take away on 31 Oct was neither flavoursome of looked good. The mixed spiced onions to start were a a few onions and cucumber cut up with a few added mint leaves, absolutely horrific. Spicy onions should be that, actually spiced. The King prawn Madras was chilli hot.....that was it, no depth of flavour, lacklustre sauce with no bite, zero taste, just heat. The peshwari nan was burnt, they sent out a burnt nan......it was actually inedible. The pilau rice was lovely, but rice is a filler, an accompaniment to the main event. The front of house staff are absolutely wonderful and lovely, shame the back room staff let the front of house down. If we hadn’t been moving house yesterday and was too tired, I’d have gone back and asked for my money back and showed them the pathetic attempt at what they though was acceptable to sell a customer......

We ordered a takeaway after a day exploring the island, hindered by a cold northerly wind. I had the Dulhaniya Bhuna (chicken version) and it was excellent, not too hot but subtly spicy. I'm impressed by the size of the menu. They have all the usual British Indian dishes but quite a few more interesting dishes as house specials. Naans, rice & starters were also good. My wife, who is veggie, had plenty to choose from. The sides can be ordered as mains, with larger portions.

Not a lot to do in Stornoway on a Tuesday night in November, but a curry is an option. The place was empty but they were doing a few takeaways. Service was good. Popadums were ok but not totally fresh. Pickles fine. The vet biryani was good, fresh veg, nicely spiced and served up. The bombay potatoes, which for me are the kpi of a curry house were ok, but too much sauce. Beer good and prices ok.

Absolutely gutted when our takeaway which wasn’t cheap was totally inedible. The chicken korma was watery and the chicken was really soggy and cold. It’s never a good sign when you find a piece of day old pakora under your table and a menu six pages long offering everything from Indian dishes to pizzas and hamburgers. The chicken tikka paneer starter looked promising but tasted completely bland. The description of the main course was nothing like the taste of the actual dish and, for the first time in a very long time, I had to send it back. The naan bread was disappointingly small and not ‘fluffy’ like we’re used to. Whilst the lamb was tasty and tender there was only around 70-80 grams in a sea of sauce. The restaurant is cash only and the final black mark came when we checked the bill to discover they were asking for £59.60 ... and it was actually £44.15! Probably a genuine mistake but all things taken into account wouldn’t recommend this restaurant.

The food is usually good, sometimes very good but is really expensive. As I travel in to other parts of the UK prices here are probably a third or half more than city restaurants on the mainland. I know we live on an island and that has it's problems with cost of supply etc. but the dishes are still way over priced. Maybe if more comparable pricing with restaurants elsewhere was introduced the place would have more tables occupied than is usually the case.

I was pleased I did, it was quite quiet and I seated straightaway. There are about 10 tables, so it is small. The staff are attentive and the owner (I presume) was very friendly. Even gave me a nip at the end of the night!I prefer medium hot curry and went for a house special. But I think the server was not a big fan of heat and talked me out of my preferred dish 'a fairly hot Leal'. In the end I settled for a medium - but it was pretty mild. I need to break out into a sweat. Perhaps I have lived in Texas for too long, but I prefer some heat in my dishes!Overall, a really good alternative to the high street restaurants - and great value also.

4 of us went in for an evening meal and we were met by an unsmiling waiter. I ordereda traditional curry with tandoori chicken (on the bone) as the menu said, to be told "thats on the bone" When the meal arrived I had 4 bits of chicken on the bone yes but the kind you buy from the supermarket with tandoori sauce on it, 2 thighs 2 tiny legs. The thighs were edible the legs had been reheated and were old and dry. When I complained I was told that they are cooked in a clay oven. (Yeh so they were) and that was the reason why! As for my fellow diners only one of us was satisfied with their meal.We received no apology for the meal and no offer of a reduction in price, just the bill and the hope we would hurry, pay and get out. We did. Now for the other ignorant bit. While waiting for our meal the, I presume , Owner/chef came out in to the dining area on his phone and started talking , in a very loud manner which stopped us engaging in our own conversations. Even the hottest one on menu (naga chillis) wasn't that seasoned let alone spicy/hot.Others in the party had Rogan josh style meals which tasted more casserole like. We're a bit spoiled coming from Leeds, and accept stornoway isn't a big city centre, but all said and done, not a great do really. Not easy to locate this restaurant. But choice was good and the taste and quality was very good. I like my Indian food spicy and it was to order and again very good. The manager was very very friendly and took time to talk and advised on places to visit in and around Stornoway.Highly recommended.

This Indian is lovely great for a takeaway, and if you go on a Wednesday night it's an all you can eat buffet. Delicious

Arrived at 5pm, with a visitor from the USA, for the buffet, sat down and a few minutes later the power went out all over town. Had a wonderful meal under the emergency lighting and the staff and owner apologised profusely over the situation but still managed to serve a delicious meal. When all was said and done the owner informed us that our meal and drinks are free tonight. I left enough money on the table for the staff to buy a round of drinks and will definitely return again.

When the call of the curry hits, you may be struggling in beautiful far flung spots of the uk! To help with your decision, neither can really offer the city curry experience, so don't expect it. While the balti house has a great view of the harbour, this one on church street shades it with its overall flavour, and certainly cheerier service.

Called in for meal as only restaurant we could find open at 4.30pm on a Saturday. Loved the food - we both tried a different 'special - very tasty and good portions. Interesting to see the constant stream of locals collecting takeaways -a great endorsement of the food. The waiter who served us was wonderful - efficient and hard working, really personable and chatty (good luck with your exams). The toilets were spotless and altogether we were pleased we had found the place. Do not be put off by the exterior, it is warm and pleasant inside.

Came here with a travelling companion whilst visiting Stornoway on a short break. My friend and I are both enjoy going out for a curry, plus we arrived late in town (10:45pm) and - although empty - this was the only place still open. Great, or so we thought.I ordered my usual dish, which I usually go for in most curry houses I haven't been to before, because it's always on the menu and (in theory) I know what I'm getting and I'll enjoy it. My friend chose a different dish. When the waiter brought out our food, for some reason he thought that this was the perfect time to engage in long conversation. After several polite hints, he finally left us alone to get on with our meal which we were really looking forward to. Sadly, it tasted more like a bland watery casserole of dried out (certainly not fresh) chicken, than the usual tasty succulent medium spiced dish I was expecting. My friend also commented on the bland flavour and poor quality of chicken in his meal. We tried each other's food, and if they weren't both from the same cooking pot, then they both tasted VERY similar. It was that bad we both left half of our meals - it just wasn't worth eating. We spoke to the manager and he instantly got defensive about his food and his restaurant - we explained that we weren't after a discount, just wanted to relay our opinion of the drab food. He said he makes the dishes bland for the local's taste, and that 'medium' spiced on his menu therefore meant very mild. (Milder than a standard Korma elsewhere in the UK). He did not pass comment on the bland flavour, and insisted that the chicken was fresh... He also argued that if we'd managed to eat half of it then it couldn't have been that bad...He reluctantly offered us a discount for our next visit - which will be never - so we immediately paid up and walked out. Prices weren't cheap either - standard price you'd pay in a good curry house in Southern England and certainly not in line with other eateries' prices we visited in the Hebrides.

I'd eaten quite a few times at Bangla Spice. Generally the food is of high standard. What I didn't ever expect, when eating there with my husband, teenaged daughter and her boyfriend, was to overhear the owner, in a genial and friendly manner, suggest to my daughter's boyfriend several choice things that he might like to do to my daughter that night. These two people aren't friends - they don't know each other, except in a customer - trader way. The friendly facade of the owner was revealed for what it is - false bonhomie and extremely misjudged on this occasion. I'm usually quite understanding and forgiving but I don't know what can excuse this behaviour. Daughter's boyfriend was furious, daughter was mortified, I was disgusted. Will never go there again.

I have eaten in this restaurant on numerous occasions, the food and service are excellent. Staff very friendly and helpful and will cook a dish on request. The restaurant itself is spotless as is the toilet facilities, disabled friendly too. I would highly recommend visiting this restaurant and you will not be disappointed.

We got stuck in Stornoway on a Saturday night with nowhere to eat. The Bangla was the only place we found that wasn't fully booked and after reading other reviews we nearly didn't go in. However, having experienced a huge number of asian restaurants in the past I can sfaely say this isn't the worst one I've ever experienced (its certainly nowhere near the best either), but it was OK, being reasonably tasty in the eating and with no nasty after effects. The guys could certainly improve their service, but we found them perfectly polite if a little inattentive.

Used to get takeaways from this place when they first opened, and it was hit and miss, some half decent curries, but other times they would be bland, far too oily, and not very nice at all.Sat in the restaurant for a meal about 5 or 6 times, again to mixed results. To be honest, normally if I ate in an Indian and the meal wasn't up to expectations I'd go to another. On the island, you don't really have that luxury, the only other Indian poor in comparison to this one.Went to the restaurant recently, and this time I am never going back. The meal was really poor, utterly bland and the chicken was not at all fresh. I'm a curry addict, so I've been forgiving in the past, but this experience was really too much.Service is friendly from the main waiter, borderline abusive from anyone emerging from the kitchen. If you look at the reviews, the 5 star ones are from islanders, the lesser scoring ones from tourists. This is because the islanders rarely venture off the island and have little experience of what a curry should taste like. It is a 2 star experience - substandard and expensive.

Ate here on a saturday lunch time, similar to another reviewer the waiter looked annoyed to see us, pointed to a table and chucked some menus at us.We ordered and waited for our food. We were the only people in the restaurant the whole time, there was no music on and the till was constantly bleeping. The chef came out of the kitchen, stared at us then went back in - like he was shocked he had a customer. When the food came, my Chicken Passanda was DISGUSTING the sauce was like water not thick at all, there was a grey film on the top. I ate a small amount as i didnt want to wait for another curry while my husband was eating his.At the end the chef took the plates and asking if it was ok, i said no it wasnt - he just stared at me. I explained the sauce was horrible so i hadnt eaten it - he grunted and walked off!!, that was it - whats the point of asking how it was if you dont care.when paying i assumed mine would be free but when we got outside and looked at the credit card receipt he had charged us full price £9.95 for a horrible passanda.I couldnt be bothered to go back inside, but i will definately NOT be eating here again and would recommend you dont either.

I opted to eat at Bangla Spice on a wednesday night as the buffet was on...I was greeted at the door by the host who looked at me with a face of "what do you want" When i said i wanted a table for one he mumbled something to me about a seat in the corner - he didnt even show me to my table...!!About 15mins later i had not been served any drinks so i eventually went to the bar (after i had helped myself to some starters) and ordered a coke. The buffet menu offered just 4 main dishes, 3 chicken & 1 beef. The starters had mushroom, veg & chicken pakora - the chiken pakora made me laugh , it was basically chicken nuggets with a hint of spice!!At £12.50 + £2 per coke i expected a wider selection of food to be offeredMaybe the main menu is better - but i doubt it, the food was bland & had no real kick to it that i expect from Indian dishes.

I have now visited the bangla spice on 5 occasions for sit in meals and indeed i regularly order takeaways from here too, Neither me or my family have ever had anything but praise for the quality of food as it is always consistent and fresh tasting. The staff are always friendly and they really are very efficient too, You will leave here with a smile on your face and a full belly!! It really is the best in stornoway! Wednesdays are buffet night and where you can get a huge variety of food at a cheap price £12 i think

All you want from a fish and chip shop. Very generous portion of fresh fish (cooked to order) and chips for a very reasonable price. Wish i had had the opportunity to try some of the other options. Efficient service. Great value!

We had booked 3 nights stay here but were a day late arriving as our ferry was cancelled, owing to fog. A 7 unit site with 2 showers with a toilet in the same room [En-suite]. One of the rooms was, imo, suitable for disabled guests. The facilities were clean with no extra charge for the showers. As the area was "remote" from the main site - hundred yards away and out of sight of the main site - access through the gate, into the shower/toilet block and chemical disposal point was by padlock code or Door Key Code. It worked and probably necessary as adjacent to the main road but slightly annoying. Good water supply and Grey water runoff easily accessed. The most expensive site we used in our holiday through the Outer Hebrides but West Harris Trust is a Community Charity so any profits presumably channelled back into Community Projects

Very good food and attentive service. Not sure why this place is not heaving and perpetually fully booked. Other places in Stornoway were booked solid but were not as interesting. It must be newish so it’s reputation as a restaurant hasn’t yet spread.
