Bancone Golden Square in City of London, Westminster

We were looking for a place in central london for pasta. We went to Bancone golden square.We ordered some starters salsiccia, artichoke .i liked the artichoke with romesco. We ordered three pastas, squid,spicy,borlotti. We liked the borlotti,chicken butter was outstanding. Cheers to Sonom for your service.

Sat at the counter as the name suggests. Enjoyable experience. Pasta was delicious as expected. Really good Italian restaurant in piccadilly circus London 🇬🇧 It is an Italian restaurant, it only has pasta on its menu with some different starters. The food was amazing, a reasonable price for a plate of pasta in my opinion, and the restaurant can get a little bit busy but definitely worth it! We went out for a meal with friends and had really been looking forward to visiting this particular restaurant. We were served a wine, that, admittedly we picked but it tasted flat and was horrible and when we sent it back after tasting - there was no asking what else we would like. All the staff huddled together and looked over at us. We asked for the starters and mains to come out separately, before we had even finished our starters our mains were bought out and our plates hadn't yet been cleared. The cauliflower salad was disappointing and quite frankly disgusting - it was raw cauliflower and some of the pasta dishes tasteless. After the wine incident, our waitress seemed not bothered with our table and we were soon told we had to give the table back. We paid the service charge (as it would have been rude not to) but would not recommend the restaurant to anyone, or be visiting again.

Dropped in for lunch whilst doing the sites. SUPERB - one of the best pasta meals I have ever had. Pasta is fresh and home-made, the sauce is beautiful and it was beautifully cooked

Poor service. Very slow! Very limited menu. Food was warm rather than hot. Small portions. Focaccia starter for £4 were two small stale pieces. Music was too loud to have a conversation. Overpriced. Definitely won’t go there again.

I have dined at various Bancone restaurants and always hear good reviews from friends/colleagues. However, last night’s dinner was not up to standard. Ordered the ox cheek pappardelle, which I have had twice before and it was amazing both times. Last night’s offering was very disappointing, just two tiny tough lumps of meat on top of a bed of pasta/sauce. Not the “beef stew” vibe, as stated in a previous review at all and not worth £16. If you’re going to cut corners, cut your prices. I sent an email to the restaurant with my feedback after receiving a link inviting me to book again, but no reply. Will not be going back.

The first time I went was last year in March 2023 but for a whole year it has changed and unfortunately in a worse way. The food was nice but we were there in total for 17 MINUTES !! It’s like they wanted to kick us out, completely ruins the experience of eating out on a date or with friends. One of the waiters/chef came over to serve us and the amount of Parmesan that was at first put on he completely rushed it and you could BARELY even see it, we had to ask for more. It felt like he was rationing the Parmesan, the starter plate wasnt taken until we left. The bill probably took longer than eating the starter and main. Not impressed with the service at all. As you can see in the first image that’s before we asked for more Parmesan.

So dull, bland, oily, been several times and always disappointed. How can you get away with charging money for that focaccia? Zero joy in the food or restaurant

Excellent pasta in a pleasant atmosphere. We had the beef cheeks pasta dish - rich flavors, think beef stew. Also had the roasted pumpkin ravioli, highly recommend. Service was friendly, price was affordable. Plan on ordering appetizers as portions are on small/moderate side.

Unfortunately we were not impressed. Firstly, at 5pm on a Saturday the restaurant had run out of Prosecco, this is despite advertising themselves as offering ‘Prosecco. Pasta espresso’ on the awning outside. The pumpkin ravioli was swimming in oil and tasteless. We were disappointed to be directed to a qr code to pay the bill which added an extra charge of around £2 on top of the 12.5% service charge - so we were being asked to pay more so the staff could do less!

We always come to Bancone whenever we’re in London, it’s normally top quality food and great service - it’s normally a highlight of each trip. We were really looking forward to eating at the golden square restaurant on Saturday night but it really didn’t live up to previous experiences. The service was poor and felt very rushed. Such a shame and we won’t be rushing back.

We booked a reservation weeks in advance as we had family visiting from oversees and have always had a fantastic experience at Bancone. We were seated downstairs as apparently bigger tables aren’t seated upstairs. The atmosphere down there was very quiet, which isn’t necessarily within their control, however the treatment we received was almost as if we were 2nd class customers. The only other people down there were staff, of which there were many, that were mostly sat around on their phones and chatting. The only other table were staff eating on the table beside us that after their meal proceeded to lounge on the benches, some with their feet up on the tables, scrolling through videos on their phones with the volume on. I was shocked at how little consideration there was for us as customers or how they were perceived as representing the restaurant. The waitress that served us also left us dissatisfied. She was very inattentive in general but more importantly only wrote down 5/6 of our orders, which meant that one person on our table didn’t receive their food with the rest of us and she had to send the order through at that stage. She didn’t once apologise for this or show any effort to make up for this mistake. She actually said as it’s ‘very busy upstairs we need to wait’. Upon paying the bill, we split and forgot one focaccia. We realised this and were about to call her over to pay when she put another bill down for the pending £6. This however was within the £15 service charge which, despite the very poor service, we paid. I was also shocked that she brought us a bill to pay the remaining service charge considering the service we’d received. The food and wine were, as usual, amazing. However the experience was sadly tarnished by the service and atmosphere, particularly as we’d set the bar high from previous experiences. Bancone has the reputation of a high quality restaurant and this was undoubtedly far below that. We were left feeling disappointed and knew our family did not enjoy the experience overall. We emailed and reached out to the restaurant to tell them about our experience but never received a reply. Unfortunately leaving an even more bitter taste in our mouths.

Lovely restaurant, the interior was lovely. The staff were attentive but not overly. The food and wine were all wonderful.

Food was great, though the service was really really poor. First off my friend ordered a beer, and was then given a non alcoholic one instead. Drinks took 15 minutes to come. It’s like we were forgotten about, we would try and get the attention of a waiter, though there was no eye contact by them. Wouldn’t rush back due to the service which is disappointing.

This was a lovely restaurant to eat at just before heading to the theatre. I had the the Scottish mussels which was delicious. And the waiter Julius was a delight! I am definitely returning!

What an amazing meal! Staff were so helpful, friendly, knowledgeable and attentive without being overbearing. The homemade pasta was out of this world! Had the Burrata, Chicory & Pear salad to start. Then the Roasted Pumpkin Ravioli for main, the sage butter sauce was divine! Then the Cannoli to finish All sublime! Only small moan is they don't serve tea of any kind, and I would have really liked a peppermint tea!

So so disappointed ☹️ . Food was tasteless so much so had to send back and didn’t want any replacement as both dishes were so grim . They ran out of bread to start with and from entering the premises it felt so rushed considering we had a later reservation . Honestly it was noisy and very in welcoming. Went there with my husband and some friends. My husband emailed them to enquire whether the food would be ok for our allergies. They said that it was fine… let me tell you, it wasn’t. It’s almost impossible to find something on their small menu to begin with- their gluten free pasta is made with milk powder which seems odd. They also don’t offer any substitutes for allergies& wouldn’t even accommodate us in simple ways such as not sprinkling nuts over one dish. After a lengthy conversation with the waitress for lack of an allergen list, I found something I could eat. Or so I thought… I was told an hour later, everyone else’s food was about to be served, that I couldn’t have that dish after all. Again, they simply didn’t want to replace the cream with, say, some olive oil. I ended up not eating because this conversation already preceded an hour of back and forth with the waitress. Instead, I got something from the supermarket next door… oh and they also overcharged us £50 for the all the joy they had spread that night. Luckily, as my friends pointed out, the food wasn’t even that good so I guess I didn’t miss much.

The staff were excellent, helpful especially our server Kamilla. She talked us through the menund made helpful recommendations. The food was lovely, great choice, all freshly prepared.
