Balti Restaurant in Derbyshire Dales

The restaurant was immaculate, service second to none and the food was superb. Definitely be back if we travel that way again.

We popped into the restaurant after visiting the illuminations and thoroughly enjoyed our meal, the portion sizes are very generous (we couldn’t finish everything), staff are extremely accommodating, especially with our youngest who is a very fussy eater and the place itself is lovely. We will be visiting again.

Service and surroundings are good, but the whole tasting experience was to us, less than adequate... I suppose coming from the Black Country where curries have taste, depth and flavour, the Balti failed to live up to the standards we expect ..the tandoori chicken had no flavour and it seemed as though the chicken had it's coating painted on rather than left overnight in a magical mix of Indian spice etc...The Biryani was just rice with chicken, again no flavour, or heat or in fact anything..It seemed to be just a jar sauce spread for 6 meals etc ... The chips and naan were ok, but £60 for a bland meal for two was a let down...we should have mentioned it at the table but being typical English we didn't..we paid and left..not to return...

Relaxing and delicious Indian cuisine. Great service, food and atmosphere.

I asked our waiter what he would eat and he said Lamb Karahi so I went with it. So glad I did...fantastic curry,great depth of flavour, gorgeous, tender lamb, lovely mushroom pilau and generous portion. Add to that a nice glass of house red and I was a very happy customer!

Went here for a curry I chose chicken korma peshawari naan and onion bhaji starter, my partner chicken chaat starter and chicken madras curry with keema naan. He's a curry officianado . Omg the service amazing the food tasted amazing, sadly we live in Leicester but will definitely go back. Leicesters gone down hill for decent curry's. A couple bern dining here 30 years said it's the best around and boy it delivered. Thankyou team and thanks for ordering us a taxi back to our hotel. Loved the decor too.

Good Indian restaurant. Prices on Boucher and internal menu cards differed but more or less similar to Indian restaurants. Wait times are a bit on the higher side for orders.

Ordered a biryani and got a pulao instead. It’s good food, but definitely not a biryani.

Honest review, would highly recommend. Really tasty chicken bhuna and keema aloo dishes. Pilau rice not what we are used to ( a bit brown looking) and peshwari naan not the very best we’ve had but all in very enjoyable.

Our meal here was a real treat. Although we'd booked for bang on opening time, they hit the ground running, ready to welcome and serve us immediately. The food was beautiful and the decor, atmosphere and service ticked every box. They provided a high chair for our grandson too. Highly recommended and one we'd like to revisit.

Restaurant decor and warmth was so welcoming on arrival... Staff equally attentive and friendly and professional throughout visit. Sampled starters , curries and naans all lovely , and generous portions. Loved the attention to detail on table settings with fresh flowers . Nice variety of diners , couples , family and independents seated throughout but with the background music you tuned into that rather than the chatter of a busy Restaurant! Can't wait to return...Full bar provided at normal. market prices .. Thanks for a lovely evening.!

Lovely meal after a couple of pints very filling the starter could of fed two chicken chat fortuitously I got a doggy bag for my main chicken madras

Our first visit was last night and the food was first class. As this is central Matlock we were dubious about the quality of the food as it’s a tourists area, our concerns were squashed as the service and food was outstanding. The Keema nan was out of this world. We’ll be back.

We recently had the pleasure of dining at this delightful Indian restaurant situated among fish and chips spots, and it was truly a culinary experience to remember. 3rd time we've visited in October in the last 3 years. Excellent food and service, thank you and see you next year if not before.

The food was so good at the Balti we had it on two nights of our week long stay in a cottage. Chicken korma, lamb bhuna, ch tikka masala, rice and garlic and peshwari naans. They deliver. I collected, and due to flooding, road closures and an accident I was late collecting both times. Both times the staff insisted on providing fresh chips instead of letting me leave with soggy ones! They even sent me on my way with a complimentary beer the second time. We didn't eat in, but the restaurant is set in a beautiful old (Victorian?) venue. Great food, lovely people. Thanks 'The Balti', good job.

Starters nice. Main only ok. Staff, apart from the young waiters, extremely miserable, especially the guy who greeted us at an empty restaurant, & rolled his eyes in disgust because we hadn't booked for a 6.00pm seating!

Food was delicious. Only reason for four stars is there is quite a big price difference between their takeout and sit in menu, all main courses are £5 more expensive if you sit in!

We have visited at least three times and have been very happy with every aspect of our meals there - it’s very clean and much more spacious - food is excellent and service brilliant with a relaxing ambience helped by the huge wall hangings depicting scenes from India

Very bland food, quite pricy mains, under-staffed and a 10 minute wait for our bill which meant we missed our train. We've cooked better meals ourselves. This place wouldn't last 5 minutes in any of the UKs curry hotspots.

Excellent welcome, even though it was busy they managed to find us a table, the atmosphere is relaxed & service is relaxed & pleasant. The food was very tasty and served piping hot & freshly cooked (excellent for vegetarians). The final bill was a bit expensive, but well worth it for the quantity & quality.

Horrific ! Went for mothers day and were waiting 2 hours for our main course, then when it came the food was lukewarm and tasteless. Very few staff who were just wandering about and even when we asked how long our food would be they never came back to us with an answer.Certainly shant go back.

This is only our second time here, but must say. The Staff Service Excellent, The Atmosphere Excellent. The Food was beyond Excellent as I told The Boss there. We have NEVER tasted any better Indian Food such as what is Served there. Definitely Highly Recommended and would be willing to travel from Mansfield everytime. Many thanks

Beautiful decor and staff however at the end of the day it's the food that a person comes in for. Yet, both starter and mains were unenjoyable oily, stodgy and flavourless. Real shame when in comparison you can do better with a jar of curry at home !

Great service and and ambiance my 3 dinning companions all enjoyed their meal but the balti I choose was too dry and not to my liking.Will have to try something else next time.

Dining options in Matlock Bath are limited! So we didn’t have very high expectations for a midweek meal. But we were very pleasantly surprised! The food and service were fantastic. The decor was very modern and stylish. The spice of the food was just right, good amount of meat and good portions. It wasn’t a cheap meal but certainly worth it. Very impressed!

Food excellent staff are great

Me and my partner went for a meal recently as we had been staying in matlock bath, from entering the restaurant until leaving the restaurant was faultless. Meal was the best I had had for a very long time, nothing was too much trouble for the staff, very friendly and attentive. I hope we can go back again. Also the decor is outstanding.

5 of us visited for dinner, 4 curries were flavourless. Manager said he would refund them and adjust the bill. Only 1 was deducted from the bill. Needless to say, we won't be returning

Terrible experience! Firstly the service, we arrived and our table wasn't ready, no big deal normally however we got plonked on a table full of menus and glasses it was basically the table where the waiters dumped stuff they weren't using. We sat for around 20 mins without even being offered a drink! It's basic hospitality to offer your guests a drink and maybe let us look at the menus as we wait for a table but nothing! Eventually we got sat at a table that had been empty the whole time we were there. I thought maybe they could win it back with the food... I was wrong! The rice was bland, tasted very similar to microwave rice 🤮 the meat was overcooked and small, again I've had better meals for 1. The bread was the only nice thing about the whole ordeal. The place was just chaotic, badly managed and the food was awful. I felt pretty sick after the food and it made it worse when I saw the bill! Really feel like I've been ripped off. Will never visit again!

Food was very bland, tasted like a jar massala and the dansekh was just like curry powder and tinned tomatoes. The chicken was cut into tiny bits and the king prawns were cut into small bits, all dishes warm not hot. We then got rushed out of the restaurant after only being in there for 45 minutes. Warm Cobra beers. Only good thing was the poppadoms. Have made it better at home.

Wow, what a cracking place, we will definitely be returning. The decor is really great. It looks recently refurbished and quite classy. However, they didn't bat an eyelid when a load of walkers came in. So, it has a nice relaxed feel and is very welcoming. The staff are great too, really funny and encouraged us to go off menu if we wished and that it was just for guidance. We had chicken Jalfrazi - which was lovely Lamb with spinach - which was incredible Their Aubergine side curry - again, lovely I asked if they could do Chilli Paneer as it wasn't on the menu and it's one of my favourites. OMG. It was AMAZING!!! So, all in all, we couldn't fault it :)

Had a meal at Balti , mid week with 2 friends. It was quite busy for a Wednesday evening which I thought was a good sign. Staff were friendly and the restaurant is beautifully decorated and clean. Even the toilets were lovely. Starters were delicious and well presented. I was slightly disappointed with my main course as it wasn't as spicy as I was expecting it to be. But that was my choice. Otherwise, a very nice evening in beautiful surroundings. Well worth a visit.

Nothing special. Food slightly bland but not bad quality.

This is a lovely restaurant, but not the kind of curry experience that really hits the mark for me. The food is nice, but a bit too delicate; not hugely spicy, not a lot a heat, and those funny naans that are more like puffy flatbread. It was OK, for me.

Food was excellent, as usual, though in the Shahi Paneer the cheese was hard and not cooked enough. The service was good but the evening was married by being sat next to two loud football supporters. In hindsight we should have asked to be moved after they were put on the table next to ours and we realised how loud they were going to be; we will remember for next time.

Ordered for collection and was not disappointed. Order was ready pretty much on arrival and was really tasty.

Well laid out establishment that can cater for a large group on one table. Traditional menu, alcohol licence. Quick attentive service. Maybe a tad expensive by a couple of pounds per main course. Some in the group found the food a little under spiced.

Ordered food at 6-15 , turned up at 8-30 freezing cold ! The nan is like a frisbee , the food is ice cold ! Asked for refund and refused even though the guy on the phone agreed it wasn’t edible ! Avoid at all costs !!

Me and my partner came here for a meal for her birthday. Needless to say, start to finish this place was amazing, and one of the best Indian meals I've ever had. The staff couldn't do enough for you, were highly accommodating, and just a pleasure to deal with. Well worth the money. The quality of food and the care these people have of their restaurant is unlike any other. Next time I visit Matlock it will be my go-to restaurant!

Hands down the best Indian in the area. I know everyone thinks their local Indian is the best but I genuinely believe this is up there with the best curry I've ever had and I've had a few, even in India. Every dish is superb and whatever you pick of the menu won't disappoint. If you can manage to go on a Monday night for the banquet special they do it offers really good value for money. The service is very good and all the staff are very friendly. I have been visiting for the last 15 years and it's my go to for a nice meal out, especially if friends are visiting. We are lucky to have such a good restaurant locally and I wouldn't think twice about recommending it to anyone.

Most average tasteless overpriced curry I've ever had and very slow service. Also the toilet is a bucket.

After experiencing local hospitality at the owners of Sticky Fig, we strolled on to The Balti for dinner. When we entered, the manager gave us derogatory looks and told us we couldn’t sit together as the government mandate was limited to six at a seating. However, we showed him that kids were not included in that number (we had a 3 year old and 9 year old). The manager continued to be extremely rude despite some of his staff attempting to be courteous. When we approached them about their behaviour and told them that if they were not happy to have our business, we would leave. Instead of apologising - the manager retorted: “Up to you!” Quite taken aback. Definitely do not recommend.

Absolutely exceptional cuisine - prepared beautifully, very fresh, flavoursome and minimal oil content! Delighted - the best Asian food we've ate in many years ... no wonder they don't have competition in Matlock Bath 🤩
