Abysmal experience at Baldry's yesterday. We live in Cumbria and have taken friends there in the past as the food and staff have been good. Yesterday, as is sometimes the case, there was a queue and people were waiting for seats to become available. A member of staff frequently appeared at the door but failed to communicate to anyone in the queue that the restaurant was closing early. After some 20 minutes of queuing she eventually spoke up, having wasted the time of my group plus people queuing ahead of us and behind us. This prompted an uncharacteristic exchange from me but without any acknowledgement from the staff member that through her thoughtlessness and utter incompetence, she had wasted what probably amounted to over an hour of people's time. To potential customers...be aware of the utter lack of respect and customer service you may encounter at this place. To the owners of this establishment...you are ultimately responsible for how your staff treat customers and if you place customer engagement anywhere near business profitability will ensure this is addressed to prevent future potential customers having their time wasted through the sheer incompetence of the staff you employ.

We visited here due to the strong reviews on Tripadvisor - these are all warranted! We had excellent leek & potato soup, a scone and Bakewell tart. All were sublime but the Bakewell tart was particularly noteworthy - stunning frangipane and baked beautifully. Lovely customer care and good value.

Very good food, service and atmosphere. They make their own bread for the sandwiches. My mum liked the old fashioned tea cup and saucers. The loos were clean.

On arrival we were seated promptly, had our order taken and enjoyed our drinks. However we were disappointed with the standard of food. We had ordered mushrooms on toast from the specials board but when it arrived it was very dry, with no sauce and undercooked, tough and hard to chew mushrooms. They were eaten because we were hungry. We understand this was a poor choice on our part as other food items ordered by our party were okay and that we should’ve complained sooner, but the lack of understanding from the staff was a shame. They did apologise but we were told, ‘it is just mushrooms on toast’ and that they would tell the kitchen. No offer of anything to entice us to come back, which we will now not be doing when we come to Grasmere. Such a disappointment as we had high hopes from reading previous reviews.

We liked the look of this tea room , especially as it clearly stated was ‘ dog friendly’. However this proved to not be the case. We asked for a table for 2 ( we had our 2 dogs with us) and was told there were no tables as they were full. We waited outside just across from the tea room ) and 2 minutes later saw another couple ask for a table and get shown straight in! So ….we went around the corner and found somewhere else which was lovely and ‘ dog friendly’ and left a generous tip !

Ordered tea/latte & scone with cream and a toasted teacake. Drinks came almost immediately but after 20 minutes no sign of scone or teacake. We drank our drinks, paid for them & left, as we were on a coach & could wait no longer. No apology from staff. I work in a tearoom & could have toasted a whole packet of teacakes in the time we waited in vain

Whilst lovely food, hygiene practice was truly shocking! Staff member putting hair up, hands thru hair, touching face, fingers in mouth...eating sugar cubes and licking fingers. Then picking up cups and milk jugs with hands in the rims. At no time where hands washed or sanitised. Did send a contact form about what was seen...but no reply. Food was lovely....but felt a but sick watching the lack of hygiene.

A lovely little tea room in the heart of Grasmere. The staff are very friendly and attentive. It serves a number of loose leaf teas and different coffees and cater for dietary needs. The tea we had was their decaf and it was excellent. Severed in a good pouring teapot with plenty of hot water in a separate pot. The cake was excellent and we observed other having breakfast / brunch and everything was severed very nicely and looked delicious. We would definitely go here again.

We visited this lovely little tea room while staying at Grasmere and after a long and very wet hike! We were welcomed and accommodated near to the log burner, which was very welcome! There’s a very good choice of teas, food and sweet treats: cakes available, all set within a beautiful Lake District property that celebrates its history. The service was very good with staff friendly but not overbearing with no pressure to free up the table! Definitely worth a visit.

To be honest eat, we had tried two other places in the village but they wouldn’t allow dogs and lucky for us they didn’t. A nice warm welcome from the staff and a space found in a very busy cafe. Very friendly and attentive staff; clear direction to wait to be directed to your table which were well spaced. Doggies very welcome, our two were very comfortable. The food was really tasty, I had the stack which consisted of a thick slice of toast topped with black pudding, smoked bacon and poached eggs, all quality ingredients. My wife had the special, Baldry rarebit with wild mushrooms and rocket, again very tasty. I had the warm spiced apple juice which was fine, my wife’s coffee was ok, not weak as described by others. The cost was average in these increasingly expensive times.

Visited for the first time for breakfast, I chose this place due to the good reviews. I had a sausage and egg roll which was nice, unfortunately the flat white was very weak, it should have had two shots but tasted more like half a shot, which for the high price was very disappointing, it shouldn’t be difficult to find good coffee but in my experience weak milky coffee is the norm in too many places.

Can't stop in Grasmere without visiting Baldreys, I believe their coffe and hot chocolates are good, but I always drink their loose leaf teas - served in proper china cups and simply delicious. Great cakes too, and ... oddly, amazing loos!

Called here for a takeaway lunch, used them several times before. Service was disappointing to say the least. Not a please or thankyou from the ladies working in the shop - even when I pointed out they'd only charged me for 1 flat white! Previous reviews also highlight the fact that the staff are miserable, they respond but do nothing to address the concerns raised. Also, I would've thought that as u was the only customer in the shop on a very wet day would have been positive for them - obviously not! Not sure I'll return here.

Visited here with my Dad today. Asked for a tea cake and then a scone both not on the menu anymore. I had a bagel with salmon and cream cheese paid over £8 and that was it no sides, no even a bit of salad - didn’t taste great. Dad ordered pancakes in the end 2 tiny pancakes on a dish - still hungry when we left. Not great service either. Disappointed!

Terrible customer service! The young girl at the till clearly did not want to be there. She was huffing and puffing at customers! Yes, it was very busy as yesterday, 15th October was a beautiful autumn day but I would think they would be glad of end of season trade! I could not sit down because they were so busy so opted to ask for take away coffee and cake, only to be told by her 'I'm not doing take away'. Really? The local co-op is closed for a refurbishment and they really could capitalise on that if they employed more capable, less miserable staff! Shocking!! Won't return!

Stopped to have a tea, latte and a slice of carrot cake. Great service and a huge slice of cake that we shared. Great value for money.

Called in for a coffee and snack after our frequent walk along the bay and round back into Arnside. When this first opened I was a little wary as we are used to small intimate tea/coffee shops in Arnside. However this was our second visit and as we entered we were greeted by obviously the front of house guy “David”. Wow does this guy know how to do it Welcoming ,friendly, Northern (always a bonus). Had a lovely coffee and Hubby had a great crisp bacon bun. The vibe in this cafe/restaurant is great., modern but great service. We live quite locally and are encouraged to go in the evening now as well. In our opinion the best restaurants are always about the front of house and Crossfields has it right. Everyone in this place has a great view of our beautiful Morecambe bay.
