Baker’s Chippy in Sheffield

The family and I visited today for some lunch. Heard a lot of good about the place so thought we would give it a go. The food was lovely. Hot, fresh and so tasty. The batter on the fish was beautiful, I haven’t had any like it. The portion sizes were something else, plenty to eat. Jon who served us was really attentive and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. We will certainly visit again.

Excellent quality fish and chips, regular visitor, highly recommend. Last visit though the curry sauce had changed from a traditional to a more, what I’d call at least, Chinese curry sauce taste - definitely not for me. Minor criticism, can’t fault anything else.

The fish and chips here are excellent. Fish in particular is the only place I've found that compares to Trenchers in Whitby, excellent quality, great value 👍

So thrilled that Bradway has a chippy! I have been here a couple of times now and was impressed both times. My portion of fish and chips were really generous. The batter used was perfect. Crispy but not overdone and the chips were made to perfection. I took them home in a really neatly presented box which is pretty unique.

Went for the first time today, thee best fish and chips I've ever had away from the sea side. Freshy cooked to order and didn't have to wait too long either. Will definitely be back.

Favourite chippy, fantastic menu with dedicated fryers for gluten free and vegan. Driving 20 minutes across Sheffield is worth it for the battered chips (also so cheap!)

Genuinely some of the nicest fish and chips I’ve ever had! The batter was stunning and the chips were cooked to perfection. Very glad I was working in the area today

Just back home from Australia. Had Cod and chips box meal with curry sauce. Now our fave chippy in the area! Rivals Whitby! Best ever! No joke!

It can be good food but often inconsistent. Good menu but need to focus on the basics before going for the more outlandish things.

Nice sausage but the chips were dry and batter excessively thick on the fish. We are finding the food inconsistent each time.

First visit. Saturday night. We did intend to take it home but as there was room we ate in. Taking food home always has a downside. There is a small charge to eat in. We had 2 small fish and chips. Our bill was in line with other takeaways despite the small extra charge to eat in. Upside, the food hasn't gone cold or spoiled. Proper knives and forks together with proper plates. Best chips we've had in ages. To sum up excellent chips. No grease. The cod was fresh the freshest we have had at a "chip" shop. The batter, excellent and no grease. We were recommended by friends that live close by. We live a lot further away and there are 3 chip shops a lot closer. We will be back.

Had the gyros and chips, delicious and huge portions!

I entered at 17.00 on a Saturday and I was the only customer in. I found out why. The pre cooked chips were re fried . Very poor chips, overcooked and chewy. My last visit. They are in our bin now!

What a rip off I asked for a fish cake butty said they cook to order ok was expecting a few mins I looked around for prices Wow what a surprise £6.95 I asked if it was correct he said but it is rather bigger than normal I told them they were ripping people off and walked out No wonder it was empty they deserve to go bust

Love getting food from the specials menu, always a treat and never fails to impress. Curry sauce is awesome, chips perfectly cooked and the staff are friendly. Can’t recommend it enough.

Great food (easily the best chippy around) great service, great place but my oh my do they need to sort the portion control & menu out. I DONT want a box meal! I want my normal go to of LARGE haddock & LARGE chips. Problem is they just don’t get it. Large haddock varies dramatically in size from a blue whale to what only can be described as a stickleback, also chips, the portion of a large chips varies so much you just do not know what to order, ordered large chips & haddock tonight & got stickleback with box meal chips! Come on guys - sort it out 🫣

Absolutely fantastic chippy especially if you are after something a little different. Portions are huge and everything is well cooked.

Popped in to Baker's Chippy whilst we were in the area, and we were pleasantly surprised to find a really smart dining area to escape a cold and wet South Yorkshire evening. The service was great, the portions were fantastic value, and listening to the owner's interactions with the steady stream of local customers, it seems like a really popular place for those in the local area. The box meals were excellent value, and the owner went to great lengths to guide customers as to the best value options available. My only regret was not reading the full menu before making our choices, as some of the more progressive options looked absolutely outstanding! Hopefully we will be back if we are in the area at any point in the future.

I don’t know who is writing the previous reviews but we had only a positive experience. We had fish and chips with a sauce on the side, it was delicious. I live near Auckley friery which is accredited with one of the best fish and chips in the Uk. My husband refuses to go anywhere else. Well this was equally as good. Our new fish and chips when we are over in Sheffield. We will be back, sooner rather than later.

Fabulous gluten free fish and chips after a very long 15 hours in A&E with my hubbie! Our first time and most definitely not our last. Well done staff….that was tremendous. 😋😉😛

As one of my local chippy’s I’ve been here a few times as I really wanted to like the place. But todays visit was my last. Each visit has left us feeling something wasn’t right, it’s an odd menu which can’t get the basics right with either soggy chips or too much batter - meaning it’s very hit and miss. Todays visit: delicious chips, good battered sausage but the strangest Sheffield Fish Cake I’ve ever tried to eat, we honestly couldn’t tell if it was a fish cake or not and if it was potato or very thick, undercooked batter - we genuinely gave up guessing. It was pretty inedible, even the baby who’s like a dustbin wasn’t interested in it. Watery, oily gravy too. A Sheffield chip shop with an identity crisis that can’t get the basics right.

As a veggie who is gluten intolerant I am grateful as I have choice at this chip shop. And I can eat in.

Worst £9 pound spent in my life who warms fish up in a microwave never going again

Had small box meal as a take out last night, they were excellent great chips good quality white fish in a crispy batter and excellent value !! we will ba back soon !

The best chippy in Sheffield by far. Had the Sheffield fishcake, and it's a proper Sheffield Fishcake. Definitely coming back!

Lovely tasty batter on the cod. Chips were crispy. Mushy peas lovely and runny, not stodgy. Very, very nice.

We dined in at 1 of the booths. The fish was cooked fresh and absolutely delicious and the chips were perfect. Mushy peas were lovely and sweet and curry sauce was delish 😋. The toilets were also very clean and presentable.

Update: I have been back a few times now due to limited options in the area. It’s expensive, and very hit or miss, but at least it’s a chippy. First time I visited there were unfriendly, rude staff, greasy overcooked fish and undercooked chips put me off but I have been back since and there has been some improvement.

Food was piping hot and so fresh. Excellent service but a little bit on the pricey side.

Saw some negative reviews but it looked and smelled amazing as I walked past. Ordered two large fish chips and sauce for under £20 and I can only assume the negatives are from other chippy owners in the area. Absolutely great food, two lads working were polite and served quickly. Even the packaging felt premium.

First visit. Good food and service. Large is massive so watch out! Seemed to be quite busy but well organised. Will return!

Very tasty fish and chips. Personally I think they need to fat a little hotter but will visit again.

Fish was delicious but the chips were not great and was told there was no gluten free deep fried chocolate bars and no gluten free vinegar which I found strange, if your going to cater for gluten free please do it properly. Was disappointed as I was really looking forward to trying it out seen as you offer gluten free. The portion was great just needs some staff and chips improvement!

From Bradway living in France, I decided to try this new Chip shop. My husband said the service was friendly & efficient. Very fresh fish & chips good too. Generous portions Well done !

My wife & I fancied a bite to eat but didn't know what to have. She'd seen bakers chippy on Facebook & they had an interesting menu, so thought we'd give it a try. My wife had tempura sea bass, that came with sweet potato fries, sriracha mayo & a chilli slaw. I had the Mexican chip pie. It came in a thick cardboard pot (that I took leftovers home in) it was a chilli con carne with big chunks of slow cooked beef, chips, cheese sauce and melted cheese in it. OMG😋😋 Calling it a chippy, doesn't do them justice. We feel like we've been out to a restaurant for a meal. Great friendly service too. Will definitely be back.

I had the seafood basket, it was really tasty and a good size. However the chips are the best I've ever had...

I ordered a lamb kofta and chicken gyros but was disappointed with it. The lamb strips of kofta were pretty tasteless as was the chicken. I thought the chicken may have had a grilled or charred taste to it but it was very bland. The portion however is huge with lots of filling but sadly not much flavour or seasoning.

Very disappointing. Ordered 2x " LARGE" fishcakes which are in fact 2 small fishcakes so, ended up with 4!!! They were tasteless, wet & soggy. I know prices have gone up but £29 for 2 large fishcakes, 2 chips, 2 peas & 2 cans!!, my fault I should have read the menu properly but, it's a busy written chalk board & soon as I walked in, he came straight up to me with his notepad. I always support small local businesses because I am one & have been for 30+ years but, sorry to say I found this ridiculous pricing for bland tasting food, I'm flummoxed by everyone raving about it tbh

This place has the best fish I've had from any chip shop. Light and fluffy texture with perfect crisp batter. The chips were great. Portions were large! Brilliant place

Service was good. Menu options extensive. Portion size generous, perhaps too generous. Sad to say though quality was not what we hoped. Disappointed

The fish was greasy tasted more like cod than haddock but not sure because of grease! ( No real taste) Batter was awful, peas questionable a 40 minute wait,? a poor service and total dissatisfaction! Except the positive the chips weren’t bad! Definitely not worth the dis organised service or final product! Never go again! Simple tasteless

After living in the area for over 10 years, we finally have our own chippy within walking distance! And not just any old chippy, Jack and the team at Baker's have brought the quality we've come to expect at the Castle Pub (Twentywell Road), and truly delivered. They have delivered not only the best fish and chips in S17, but also an amazing range of other dishes to make your choice of what to eat super hard, and leave your mouth watering whilst you wait. There's only one thing for it, we'll have to revisit at least 50 more times to try all the amazing options. Great chippy, great quality, great team.

Loved it! This is a chip shop with different items on the menu, and they make everything well from chips to pork belly that's marinated for days. Chips were fried perfectly, not dry not not greasy, but fluffy and delicious. Service was fast, it was not very busy at the time and the people working there made sure I had everything I needed. Give this shop a chance. Support your local businesses. Especially the good ones!

Chips were cold. Fish was cold. Curry sauce - not sauce. My spoon stood up in it Big queue doesn’t mean the fish and chips are any good Sorry, i know you are a new business and trying your best but i am not going to get caught up in all the misdirected hype. I’d like nothing more than to have an outstanding local chippy but Whitby’s is still the best fish and chips in Sheffield

Lovely service, the food was delicious and that cook Jon was an absoloute pleasure to speak to. I know the business is young and you have to deal with the worst type of customers...us public but good luck to you all.

We were looking forward to trying your new place, however after visiting this evening we were left disappointed. Your signs need to be made clear especially when ordering large items e.g. large fish cake, if it was explained that this was actually two fish cakes we would have only ordered a small. This was the same with the sausages with a large sausage actually being even bigger than a large in any other fish shop. Also when eating the fish and fish cake the batter tasted burnt, is this just a teething problem. We wish you every success in your new venture but I’m afraid we won’t be returning.

Very poor terrible service prices way to high 9.50 for a supposedly large 7 quid for a fishcake won't be getting my custom again taste like everything been frozen

Oh Joy, what a brilliant chippy! Friday evening, it was busy but I was served in 10 minutes and the quality was excellent. There's even lovely indoor seating.
