Baker Street Cafe in Thanet

I ate, drank and chatted at Baker Street Bistro & Bar for the first time today having just stumbled in after moving to Ramsgate. And everything was an absolute delight. The décor’s a dazzling mix of arty, provocative and fun, with antique instruments, tin toys, William Morris-y wallpaper and technicolour curios everywhere. Love it! The vegan breakfast was amazing value and really, really good - a piping hot plate of delicious, healthy goodness. And their americano with oatmilk was so good that I had to try very hard indeed not to order another (and another). Service? Excellent. Fast and super-friendly. And Tracy is a legend! I can’t remember the last time I’ve laughed so soon and so much on meeting anyone, let alone the manager of a venue I’ve just walked into for the first time. After the fabulous breakfast and world-class coffee, I had some admin to get done so I decided to stay and work (not least because of the brilliantly eclectic playlist that had been tickling my eardrums since the moment I’d walked in). The warm, relaxed vibe made my morning zip by in such a pleasant flash that I simply didn’t want to leave when I was done. Highly, highly, highly recommended. My new favourite place. If you haven’t been then do yourself a massive favour and get down to Baker Street Bistro & Bar - places with this good an offering are far too rare. Five BIG stars!

I (for some reason) have been a regular at this place for a couple of years. I’d say my reasoning is similar to watching a really poorly made film. 1) the overall vibe with the staff is like they are being held hostage. Why don’t they talk? Has the manager forbidden such antics!?! 2) when I was in there a few weeks ago I saw a lady with pastel pink hair and a lady with one eye wink (I think with one eye it may have been a blink, not really sure) at each other and then pour out a shot from a non descriptive glass. Do your employees have a problem? Do you dose them up with alcohol to stop them from talking? 3) there’s a lovely young lady that has just started there. Madeline I think her name is, she gets no appreciation from her colleagues for the hard work she does. 4) the ketchup I am convinced is either incredibly outdated or from the Aldi discount bin. (Or the outside bin of Aldi, I am not too sure) 5) the pastel pink haired woman doesn’t stop dancing while all her hard workers (like Madeline) drip from sweat with their hard work. 6) the pastel pink haired woman gave me a wink as I ordered a coffee for the first time. She then put her number on a napkin. Hard pass babe you are built like the letter P. 7) the graphic design on the instagram account is somewhat awful. 8) to really sell the vibe of the establishment I think smoking should be encouraged. Even to the younger than 18 ones. 9) the young lady with short hair, has an incredibly short temper. Is her hair a physical representation of her temper? 10) the French toast tastes like it has come out of the slums of Marseille (I have been there, trust me. I know) 11) I am convinced this place is money laundering. I have never seen more than 3 customers in there, I go at peak teams on the weekend and see no happy customers. 12) after staying in for a coffee and a cheeky vape in the bathroom, my hair became incredibly greasey. As well I broke out heavily with acne the day after. Great spot for a cheeky indoor vape though x 13) the decorations and overall vibe of the shop is the refuse section of the emporium. Seriously is there a policy that if a product hasn’t sold in a year it goes to the cafe. 14) I have tried several times to get the number of the girl with pastel hair (younger, less like the letter P one), she has always refused and said she is taken. How rude. 15) why do they order so much cheese. Seriously, I don’t know why they have 4.75kg blocks of cheese. One time the girl with short hair, and an even shorter temper offered me cheese to top my biscoff cake. 16) I tried visiting the establishment with my disabled cousin, we tried several times to bring a wheelchair. We rammed her into the stairs several times, she only fell on them. 17) does the place have a single matching pair of chairs? Seriously what’s with the oddities. This place claims to be a Sherlock tribute. If he were to visit this establishment he would quickly become overstimulated and start crying. 18) thank Christ there a GP surgery directly next door. After seeing food hygiene practices (one time i saw a girl pick up a knife off the floor and put it in with clean knives), you would that there is medical care nearby. 19) the staff beyond irresponsible, if I had a penny for every time I saw the storage door open, I would have enough for several 4.75kg blocks of cheese, maybe some squished bread if i got lucky. 20) they take on volunteers, who get no pay for the work they do. Solely reliant on tips. I get if this is the Salvation Army, and you are offering them a chance to socialised. Without collecting money for their efforts I guess it would be more ok. Here the vibe is that of a sweat shop. Only those employees are guaranteed some pay (£0.03 a day, still £0.03 more than the volunteers of baker st bistro get paid). I offered to volunteer here once, and got rejected. Unfortunately my disability is slanderous (but true) Google reviews. And not having one eye and a drinking problem. (Attached is the letter P)

Very quirky, loved it & found some great bargains downstairs in the sales shop

The bistro located upstairs at the Ramsgate depot-vente is an absolute gem. The warm and inviting atmosphere is enhanced by the charming decor, filled with an array of vintage elements that give the place a unique and cozy vibe. The staff were incredibly friendly, going out of their way to interact with our children and accommodate their specific dietary needs. It’s not always easy to find places that are so willing to adapt, and it made our visit all the more enjoyable. The prices were also very reasonable, making it an easy choice to return here the next time we’re in town. Overall, a delightful spot that we’ll definitely be visiting again.

Not very good this time. 35 minute wait for sandwich and a jacket at 12.30 and portion size has definitely reduced since last visit!

Enjoyed a drink listening to singer and guitarist. Nice way to spend Sunday afternoon.

Brilliant cafe, does the best coronation chicken baked potato and sandwiches. My husband loves the veggie breakfast. Cakes are good too. Bob (my dog) loves the sausage lady who always gives him a sausage when we visit. Very dog friendly, even with my over excited lad 😱. This is our go to cafe on our dog walks all year round.

I love this place! Recently performed a show here and it is the perfect cabaret setting in the evening. Wonderful place to eat duri g the day too. Staff are brilliant and food great!!!! Thank you!!!

Stopped to eat a late breakfast here after wandering round the emporium. Food and service good and definitely atmospheric with all the stuff on the walls. Love the upturned wooden spoons showing table numbers and is bit like visiting the emporium - there's so much fascinating old stuff to look at and admire.

Great Brunch! And can't be beaten for price. Friendly down to earth staff – definitely coming back again! Also the cakes are amazing.. especially the gluten free Cappuccino cake.

Visited today for breakfast which was delicious but the coffee was outstanding best latte I’ve had in a very long time! Great service very helpful

We visited for breakfast one Saturday morning. The Panini was ok, the vegan breakfast was again ok, however one of our friends ordered the Baker Street breakfast.. The toast came out like hard bread and hadn't finished being toasted. The grilled tomatos were still cold and the portion size wasn't very big for £8.50. The coffee is really bitter and they don't seem to know how to make a latte, it was practically black coffee with a tiny splash of milk. We won't return. Shame as the setting is quite funky. This isn't the cafes fault but don't you hate it when people don't make their little darlings sit down! There was a couple on another table who just let their Son run around constantly with the ocassional 'come and sit down' which was ignored!

This is a lovely quirky bistro, the cheese on toast is delicious,served with side salad and crisps. Hot drinks are available and it is licenced to sell alcoholic beverages

Absolutely love this place. It is friendly and always busy. It does great food. We have still to sample their cream tea. We keep having food lol. Next time, a cream tea lol. Our dog always gets a treat of a sausage from the girls. Needless to say, we get dragged to the bistro by our dog, he knows when we are going here and can't get in quick enough 🤣. Definitely a place to visit and there is the emporium too to wander round. There is also a great little shop at the front that does lovely clothes, handbags and shoes, need I say more, get yourself down there 🤣.

So great that you guys are open from 8am. This saved my journey to Ramsgate.

Met some friends for lunch and had a look downstairs too. We love coming here. The cafe was really busy but the 3 staff that were on were amazing and they made us aware that there would be a little wait for drinks and food but omg it was worth the wait. Definitely recommend. Great service all round.

My first visit. We each had a Bacon Sarnie. It was simply the best, excellent bread, excellent bacon and the little salad on the side was a treat. The coffee was very good too.

Perfect little hideaway. Quirky and fascinating. As soon as you enter you are surrounded by walls covered in collected retro memorabilia. This provides plenty to talk about before you sit down. Menus on the tables. Licensed bar drinks also available. My favourite.....jacket potatoes with the usual filling, are perfectly roasted and buttery. Pots of tea with cute cups, all the usual coffee suspects. Sandwiches and cooked breakfasts. Very popular Place, where they work so hard to get the food out to your tables. Sofas, eclectic table and chairs......and watch out for the strangest portrait of a blonde haired child....unmissable. 😆

A hidden gem as it's upstairs in Petticoat Lane antique centre. We both had jacket potatoes, one chilli, one Coronation chicken, which was very tasty and plentiful.

A big thank you to the to Backer Street Bistro & Bar who held our Anniversary party. The girls were amazing throughout the whole evening and on full the night when needed .I must say that the venue is spectacular in its self , you must see it. Also Andy the DJ was so good at keeping everyone dancing too . I would recommend it .

Nice, cosy cafe tucked away inside Petticoat Lane Emporium. Selection is cheap and varied (breakfast until 1pm; bar open from 12noon) with sandwiches, tea, beers, wine, spirits, panini’s, and more. The cafe is full of antiques, which makes for a unique setting.

Cute little cafe, nestled in a fab vintage emporium. Some good breakfast and lunch options, with cakes and alcoholic beverages too. Very good prices and a nice environment. Enjoyed my visit and will return next time :)

What a great find s cafe that serves breakfast and lunch has a bar within a emporium of shops of antique and collectibles. The staff are mad and love a dance food is great well worth a visit

Great breakfast and coffee and great work from the girls. Impressive to have homemade food with a personal touch, yet the girls maintain high professional standards throughout. The girls running the place have great rapport and dynamics with their customers and this is refreshing in the normal chain / sanitized world of food these days. I am a repeat customer and I visit the place not only for the great food but also the team that are in place. Keep up the amazing work.

Great place to eat, lovely and polite staff

We have visited several times over past couple of years and travel to Ramsgate for what WAS the Best cheese on Toast and Banana Milkshakes ever and well worth our drive from Ashford for lunch here. UNFORTUNATELY On this occasion that's far from the truth. The milkshake was very runny and thin. The White toast we ordered came out as Granary and burnt in places. On asking the young staff if it had changed hands, I was told no, and that she had seen the other one put ice cream in it! And to let them know next time and they will add more!! Next time is no good we wanted our thick milkshakes today.. one girl spent the entire time of our visit on her mobile , carrying both our drinks in one hand and her mobile in the other. We do usually visit at the weekend and have always had great food and service, but having a week off it was the 1st and last time we will visit during the week. They were truly not interested. Such a shame from what is usually a fantastic place for our favourite lunch

I love coming here for a good old fashioned bacon sandwich and a cup of tea, great customer service tasty food and good old fashioned surroundings ... shame more people don't get to sample this little hidden treasure.
