Bake 'n' Fry in Luton

I ordered a veggie burger for the obvious reason I'm a vegetarian,they toasted the bun on the lamb hot plate, good job I was there to see it, is this what they do if I ordered a delivery. They don't use gloves to serve food and salad. It used to be the best food, gone downhill

Well we tried this place for the first time and I will say that it was nothing to rave about. Chips were ok, but felt likey were prepped potatoes and not freshly cut. Overall, disappointing, but I wouldn’t say it was poor.

We ordered chicken sharwarma and fish and chips as a takeaway. It took an hour to get here, which was a lot longer than stated. My chicken sharwarma was really disappointing - hardly any chicken, smothered in far too much chilli sauce so I couldn’t taste the chicken, and there was barely any salad, and what there was was wilted and soggy. Partner’s fish and chips was acceptable but really wouldn’t recommend.

The Fish and chips were made fresh and cooked beautifully. The atmosphere is modern and nice. Guy working there young and very skilled. He knows exactly what he's doing. Great service. Treat customers like family!

And it was great. I was expecting the usual chicken kebab type that I've had from a few other places (rock hard, tasteless and dry as a bone) but this was delicious. Wife and I both had the wrap with garlic sauce and some other sauce (chilli or chipotle or something) - the default option anyway. It was lovely. Added bonus - all paper packaging, everything recyclable - and good service. I've been back once already and will doubtless go again in future. Well worth the adventure

Love Maci’s. We’ve been a few times and have always been very happy with our fish and chips. We will now make a special effort to go here instead of other fish and chip shops closer to home. We visited last night (a Saturday) around 7pm, and there was a bit of a wait for our 2x haddock and chips, but I definitely won’t complain - it was well worth the wait. The food seemed to be cooked to order, meaning it was still hot, crisp and not sitting in grease by the time we got home and started eating. The restaurant is clean and pleasant, the staff very friendly and polite (one of the team took the time to help an elderly couple with walking sticks through the front door while we were in the shop), and the fish and chips are tasty and good value for money. Called in after getting off train in Leagrave. Only 5 mins walk from the station. Pleasant staff and had a really large chip barm cake. Good price and very tasty chips.

I go to this chippie when we visit our friends. Not often enough. Clean, fresh fish, great batter not dripping with fat. And no inner sludge from being too thick and undercooked. The guys here are polite, friendly and have a customer awareness that does them proud. Go out of your way to visit this place.

First time I've been back in a couple of years due to moving out of the area and what a difference a year or so can make, after a refurb the place looks amazing. The owner is a nice lad, portions are huge and the Shawarma is amazing too. I highly recommend this place.

Food is amazing, not been there in a couple years due to moving out of the area so when I popped in today and saw the refurb I was amazed it was the same place. Looks clean and fresh and love the signage and you need to try the Shawarma too.

Do you like crispy, fresh and really lightly battered fish? It's exactly like this every time we buy it, which is probably weekly. We recently discovered Maci's and I'm addicted to their fish and chips! Looooove it!

This was our first visit to the fish shop since it changed hands. I liked the way the fish and chips were served in polystyrene boxes that kept the food hot and stopped you getting grease all over you. We really enjoyed our cod and chips, although they were really large portions, which we couldn't finished. Everything was nicely cooked and hot. I will be going back and hope I get the same.

I don’t want to harsh, well I can’t be about the food. I ordered cod and chips, kids meal, chicken shawarma wrap and a curry sauce. The food sounds great, restaurant looks great, time waiting inside - not so great. I order at 4pm, but a 25 minute wait later for this food on a Friday was a unexpected surprise, considering I was the 2nd customer in the shop when ordering I would’ve expected a quicker turn around time. The staff are pleasant and friendly, they even let me try the chicken shawarma on request which led to my purchase of a delicious wrap. So I drove home, unbagged the poshly boxed food to find my curry sauce missing. Groan. After the long wait in the shop, to get home and find the curry sauce that I paid for missing this has turned my first trip to Macis from when it was formally ran by Pete, into a bit of a nightmare to be honest. I rang up and explained and they will delivery it up to my house and had no fuss. I am still waiting now as I type this review at 5pm...

This has changed hands recently and not for the good we had fish and chips and not good the fish was over cooked and chips under cooked. Shame. I will go back and try the kababs. Watch this space

I hadn't been here for a while so stopped for cod and chips. The usual chaos of people standing wherever, people who have ordered over the phone and those carrying favour with the old guy to jump the queue and get the order I. Not sure what the massive paper bags do for the order except eliminate the use of plastic. Think I prefer my chops in paper jot boxes. Can only think all the extras are branding but add nothing to the meal. First visit in a long time and probably the last. Had to finish cooking the fish when I got home.

Este es un largo chips establecido con un personal amable y una buena variedad de comida disponible, el único problema es que es difícil aparcar, pero el mejor lugar es en Mount Pleasant Road y luego a pie durante todo el año. Muy conveniente para la estación, así que si Leagrave quiere recoger algo en el camino a casa desde la estación es su mejor apuesta.

Brilliant fish and chips. We have quite a few places nearby but for me this ones the best. Right in the centre of Leagrave Village, large portions and delicious fish!

Yo vivo en le clay Barton y fuimos aquí durante una visita a un amigo en Leagrave. El personal es amable y el servicio es rápido. El lugar está impecablemente limpio. Pescado y patatas fritas recién cocinado. No aceitosa como algunos pueden ser cuando salió de grasa. Grandes porciones de pescado. Sólo uno de nosotros desde 4 sentimos las patatas fritas no eran de lo mejor, los otros pensamos que estaban bien. Se trata de un Chippie volvería a usar todo el tiempo, si he vivido cerca.

This family run business really know how to cook fish & chips the fact it always has a queue out the door bares testament to its great food Best in Luton in our opinion

We've been getting our fish and chips here for a long while. We normally have haddock which is always freshly cooked and excellent.
