Baja Mexicali in Portsmouth

Came here for our fourth visit last night before Joe Jackson at the Guildhall. As per normal the waiter for super friendly, the food was amazing and the restaurant spotless. We shall return next time we are in Portsmouth.

Although the food was decent enough, nice fresh nachos and tasty Buñuelos, the service was terrible. On a Saturday lunchtime it wasn't very busy, but it took nearly 30 minutes to get tacos, a quesadilla, two sides and two drinks. It wasn't the waiter's fault, but there are definitely issues in the kitchen.

In a word, awful. The service was shocking, they were out of quite a few of the menu items and the server seemed very disinterested and indifferent. What we did order was fairly bland, and tasted as if it had been made in advance - it didn't feel fresh, it came out cold and the tostados were oily and inedible. The guacomole was decent but overpowered by the tajine on the tortillas. We went on a Sunday lunch time, and the entire restaurant was dead so no excuse for the slow, poor service and dreadful food.

Came here for my birthday and walked out as 30mins sat without anyone taking our drinks order. Shocking. Not enough staff on a Saturday night. Won’t be returning

Best place for food, family always ask to come here when they visit. Student budget friendly and perfect as it’s so close to all of the university accommodations (even being under one). The food is incredible and they cater to diets. The staff are lovely and especially brilliant at helping you navigate the cocktail menu. Even my family from Manchester want to come down and try it! Value for money as food is so generous and HUGE burritos (the review stating otherwise is lying).

I have been here several times and the service and food are great. The menu is extensive and the food quality is always great. The service (by Sergei and Jonny) is always great, friendly and welcoming. Great place for traditional Mexican food.

What a great find. Excellent food and cocktails. Very reasonable pricing. The waiter was very attentive and friendly. We had a variety of food and cocktails all of which were great. Highly recommend. Will definitely be back.
