Absolute cat and ale-lovers heaven. A proper cosy olde-worlde pub with the added benefits of no dogs, no kids including babies, and most of all ....CATS!! Friendly staff eager to talk about cats (is there any other subject worth discussing?!) and friendly, laid-back kitties eager for a fuss and a warm knee to settle on. Bliss!

i LOVED it here, the bartender was so sweet and gave me tips on which cider i would like the most, the cats were so beautiful and sweet, everyone there was really really lovely and it wasn’t too loud which was great because super loud pubs can be the worst, it’s small but in a cozy cafe way, all the negative reviews are probably because people don’t get the concept of “respect animals and let them do their own thing”

I think we chose our drinks poorly in here. We ordered a cider and an ale. Both tasted flat & at room temperature. After Googling it seems to be an English tradition to serve low carbonation & casks in the cellar. It was a very hot July day so we were very much in the mood for a cold drink. It pained us to finish our "warm" pints. I did notice that a couple of the taps were labelled with "keg beers", I wondered if that meant they'd be cold. The interior of this pub is tiny, it could probably seat about 25, and stand about 10 more at the max. There is one table outside beside the traffic. The pub also has a bunch of resident cats which seemed to have been the main attraction for a lot of customers. The pub had a sign advertising different events throughout the weekday nights (poker & quiz etc.).

site_logo

John Keenan . 2024-07-24

Was a bit disappointed sadly. The 3 cats that were around were all standing by the window, enjoying the sun. Needless to say the table by the window was already occupied by 2 girls who seemed to have finished their drinks long before we got there, yet weren't planning on leaving any time soon. The rest of the pub also feels a bit crammed so if you do get the one good table spot in the whole pub I guess you might have a better experience.

I don't get all the negative reviews. This is always a stop off for us on Bristol trips and has such a chilled out, friendly vibe. It's always lovely to see the kitties and watch them basking in the sun. There's a great selection of craft beer - sometimes the draft stuff could be a bit colder but an easy way around that is to opt for a cider or a canned beer. Good tunes always playing on the record player and the list of rules put up by the pub landlord is spot on! A great place that will remain a firm fixture of our Bristol adventures.

One of Bristol's best kept secrets. Run by some of the most laid back cats in the city, the pub oozes character and charm. The atmosphere and music of the place compliment each other purrfectly (as do the very reasonable prices). Don't tell anyone else about this place. Ever. It's too good.

Very reasonably priced traditional pub. Excellent choice of well-kept ales. People come for the cats of course and that is a big plus…they are all friendly and will come and sit with you. It’s a pub with some cats. A decent selection of beer, but a little cramped. Lots of signs telling you not what you can do and not do and to F off if you don’t. Don’t pick up the cats under any circumstances as you will get yelled at by the staff. There is a faded F off sign above the bar with this rule. Personally seeing customers being yelled at breaking rules was a bit of a weird experience. It was enough to exit the pub together with a few other people. The hospitable part of hospitality seems to have been lost here so moved on.

The place itself it’s cosy and nice it could do with a slight refurbishment and the drink choices were quite sparse. The cats were so cute but one in particular was quite clearly overweight which is a bit concerning, perhaps it’s because they don’t get much space to move around? Although the idea of having cats in the pub is very inviting, it just doesn’t seem like the healthiest environment for them. Obviously if they have been rescued and were already overweight and are being helped that’s fine I just thought I’d mention it.

I don’t think I have ever been spoken to so rudely in a pub before. I’m working away for this week and had been told about a cat pub so decided to check it out. When ordering a beer the tall guy behind the bar seemed like he wanted to be anywhere else, didn’t look at me once and rolled his eyes multiple times while I was asking about the beers. He made it seem like a real inconvenience when I ordered a can. I was then on the phone to my girlfriend who I hadn’t seen for a week and a second guy who worked there, older with the beard came over and confronted me and said I needed to stop talking to myself! When I told him I was on the phone he said that I needed to stop because people thought I was talking to them. I was really baffled because it was quite clear I was on the phone, not one other customer payed any notice. In the end I abandoned my beer just after that encounter, I have never felt more unwelcome in a place. The cats are nice but the people running that pub made me feel out of place as soon as I got in the door.

Good cat filled pub. Sure, the cat wee' smell can hit you as you enter but there are thirteen cats living here and you are the guest, it doesn't linger either. Keep that in mind. I sat at the bar with my friend and the grumpy Siamese cat, Wolfgang. He was given a sign after trying to bite me after too much fuss, which I found hilarious. Great team of two girls on the bar too. All good. Spoke with the landlord and I can see why previous reviewers would say he's rude. He isn't rude at all. He is just passionate about quality beers, traditional pubs and his cats.
