Wonderful place to visit, loved the food and the coffee was amazing. We felt welcome and the service was great. Im gluten and dairy free and the ladies were very knowledgeable about what they had on offer. I’ve rarely seen such a wide selection of cakes, although not much choice of gluten and dairy free. However, the owner told me they had lots in the farm shop and was happy to offer me something from there. Next time we visit North Norfolk we will definitely come here again and recommend to others.

After always passing this on our many trips to Norfolk and on our way home over the past 6 years we often said we must call in... In all honesty we wish we hadn't bothered. First we wandered to the deli shop where dogs are not allowed so we rook It in turns to look round while the other stood outside with the dog. We ventured into the cafe which is an impressive old barn and a lovely setting. There was one other couple with a dog sat down and 3 people behind the counter. We took a seat and looked for a menu... only drinks could be found so i had a wander and found some impressive looking cakes and pastries. The older lady behind the counter was clearly the owner or manager and never mentioned a word although gave me a judging look. I went to the counter and in all honesty if it wasn't for the young lady who served is being so nice we would of left. Another couple walked in who the manager clearly knew and the difference she smiled and informed them the chef was off and only cold food was available. Ive been in hospitality and am so disappointed with the service and attitude of 1 member of staff. Even when she bought our drinks and cake it was like she couldnt be bothered. We certainly will not be back which is such a shame and may i suggest you don't judge a book by its cover and treat everyone the same.

Very disappointed. Cafe has very small menu that really only offers breakfast or soup or quiche. Quiche was apparently sold out - weird as the deli counter had plenty and I was able to buy a piece from there and eat at the table with my fingers. How hard would it have been for the kitchen to have gotten some more and served us appropriately The scone we ordered was forgotten and had to be chased - this while 4 staff stood chatting behind the counter The checkout lady was so slow that we waited over 5 minutes in the farm shop to pay for our items - she only served one person with a few items We won't be returning

Excellent fresh and tasty food, all from the farm. We had the full breakfasts, and born vegetarian and traditional were great. Cakes looked amazing but we didn’t try them. In a gorgeous barn conversion with great garden out the back. Farm shop is full of very local fresh produce (fruit, veg, meat) and other deli store cupboard items. Very pleased to have been tipped to visit BTTG.

Back to the garden has always been a consistently good farm shop, excellent produce, lots of local produce too, which is fantastic to see. We picked up some sausages recently which were really great. The takeaway salad and picky bits section used to be excellent, however was slightly disappointed when I recently picked up a sausage rolls, samosas and salad, definitely not as good as they used to be, however do not want to write a bad review as the farm shop is lovely, staff are friendly and it's a great place. I'm not sure if the cafe is now open again to serve food, there was a point that it shut the kitchen and was just serving coffee, but would be fantastic if they are planning to serve food again as it's a great spot.

We always stop here when visiting NN and Holt in particular so we’re concerned about some recent poor reviews. Whilst I don’t doubt they are genuine some contained misinformation about change of ownership. Seems like the closure through the summer was for kitchen upgrade and nothing else. Our visit provided us with perfect breakfast, great service and good coffee at a reasonable price. Highly recommended.

Sadly this was the last time we shall visit Back to the Garden. Living locally we have been here many times over the years for both breakfast and lunch and have taken many people there who always lived it too. We were so disappointed in the summer when it was closed, hardly a good business decision by the new owner. But when we visited after it had reopened we were appalled. There were only two staff on; we had to queue for half an hour; only basics on a blackboard menu; the atmosphere was terrible. How could somewhere that had been thriving have been allowed to be turned into such a terrible place to eat. Having seen that yet again it had been closed we returned in October to give it one last chance. We went for breakfast. Whist the service was good we were so disappointed by the food. Whist the poached eggs were cooked perfectly my partner had to cut the toast for me as it was so hard. His sausage sandwich was in thick white bread the latter of which was tasteless. It is so sad not to be able to go to a place we used to love. How easy it is to ruin what was excellent.

We picked this place for lunch en route to kelling Heath as I’d read a new menu would be in operation after a lengthy time. The promised brunch menu wasn’t available at all, just an all day breakfast until 3pm and a couple of other options. We reluctantly decided on the breakfast. The bacon was over cooked and the sourdough toast so hard that I just couldn’t break it at all. The rest was just ok and on the pricey side. The only saving grace was the excellent coffee. The farm shop was very good but the cafe, although beautifully done, won’t attract us again I’m afraid.

Beautiful building. The food was nice and a decent cup of tea once the dirty cup was changed. Having had a chat with a staff member regarding the cobwebs with dead insects above our table, I recommend a good clean and cobweb throughout. Table service would be nicer than going to the bar to order, the staff may then not look so bored and interact with the customers a bit more. Will return to see if anything changes.

Although food was not being served, the staff were friendly and helpful and offered us the option of buying food in the deli and eating it in the cafe. Crockery and cutlery were provided and we had a delicious “picnic” in the cafe. From reviews things have changed. Stopped in here on the way back from a week away. Initial impressions were that it looks nice, but that’s where the fun stops. We were immediately greeted in a mildly hostile manner, advised we are to order at the bar. To me, all this said was “buy something before you use the facilities”. We looked for somewhere to sit down with our baby to feed her - first table, filthy and dusty. Moved to another, filthy and dusty. Staff totally inattentive. We found the one clean table in the establishment and I went to order at the bar as instructed - would it have been too much trouble for the staff to come and take an order? The body language said it all. We ordered a sausage cob and a salmon bagel. These were served in under three minutes, so the first alarm bell was ringing - these aren’t freshly made! The sausage was drier than the desert - clearly left on a hot plate all morning. Wouldn’t mind but it’s 9.30am and there’s only one other table in here, why was it not freshly made? I’ve had better roadside cobs for a fraction of the cost and taste far nice. Sausage bland, bread stale, no butter. Salmon - bread was freezing cold and dry, had definitely been pre made and left in a fridge overnight. Overall taste wasn’t bad but totally ruined by the bread being ice cold and dry. Apple juice - from a can. Can’t complain. £20 though for two sandwiches and two cans of pop - you expect more. Staff so inattentive. Tables are filthy and they’re just stood chatting. Wanted to visit the farm shop but don’t wish to give this poor establishment any more money - you’ve already had enough charging extortionate rates for sub par food. Absolutely do not recommend. Might be fine for the yummy mummy’s who enjoy overpaying for mediocrity, but this place will sink if they carry on like this. Do not come here. Save your money.

Will not be using the restaurant again has gone downhill big time!! But definitely keep using the butchery department as its the best around.

Tried breakfast here today. They have a limited menu atm but no eggs on a breakfast menu - really?!? Food was all cold, basic things overlooked - no cutlery for toast and butter, cup of coffee - most of it in the saucer! Deli is fab though. Shame they cannot sort out the cafe.

We have been coming here for a number of years and it has always been my daughter’s favourite place for lunch when she visits us. We won’t be taking her here when she comes over this week. We couldn’t visit over the past year because too many of our family were extremely vulnerable. We came back in April and had a family lunch sitting outside and it was ok. Yesterday we visited. A board says that there are only sandwiches etc available due to staffing problems but that wasn’t the issue. We sat outside again and I went into order. The bar needs a clean. There were boxes of things behind the bar. Previously it had always looked laid out and immaculate. The floor needed a sweep. A woman was standing eating in the kitchen so we decided not to eat and just had coffee. The staff were too busy chatting to say goodbye. Not one staff member was wearing a mask. It just felt an incredibly sloppy operation. It’s a shame. The gardens are lovely. There are lots of undercover areas as well as a beautiful barn

Arrived to be told there was a 45 min wait to have hot food but that cakes and drinks were available. We sadly decided to have cheese scones and cake. Having waited at least half an hour for the drinks to come they arrived but 15 minutes after no scones or cakes. We then saw other people arrive and order hot food and have their orders delivered. There were two girls hanging around the coffee area greeting guests but mostly just standing chatting. I went to counter and politely asked if we could have the food and explained we literally needed someone to put the scones and cakes onto plates. As a young lady delivered the tray there was a brownie on it and I pointed out that wasn’t what we ordered. She said you must have said brownie to the boy at the till. When I tried to say no it was a cranberry and chocolate tray bake she started to say I know you’re upset but this was your order. I was actually quite embarrassed as I hadn’t been cross or in any way rude just said we hadn’t ordered it. Another young lady far more polite, brought us the correct item and I tried to justify that I had merely pointed it we had the wrong order. Such a shame when the staff in the farm shop itself couldn’t have been more helpful. You need someone with better customer service skills in the restaurant. And actually we should have ordered the hot food as we waited 45 minutes for scones and cakes anyway

Had lunch with friends, decided to eat inside as it was not busy and the restaurant itself has always been light and airy.I ordered the Croque Monsieur, it was delicious so no complaints there. I did ask for some mayonnaise which was promptly delivered, I then noticed there was no salt or pepper on the tables. This seems to be the norm in places now so I bring my own in my handbag; I cannot see why sachets of salt and pepper cannot be put on the table when you place your order, after all the waitress has handled the napkin wrapped cutlery so I don't see what the issue is.The reason for my review is our observation that there is a staffing issue. After we finished our lunch we waited a very long time for someone to clear the table, in the end we waved our hands, waved a napkin, tried eye contact, all to no avail until my friend went up to the till area where there seems to be more staff gathered than actually attending to the tables. One assumes that when furlough has finished there will be a return to normal, until then we will lunch elsewhere.

This place is nice on appearances at least. Ordered three hot sandwiches at 12.10, at 12.40, still waiting for them. When they arrived, waitress asked if we would like sauces, which we did, as well as cutlery and napkins (which was not thought of by staff before now). Cue further five minutes for her to find them including one minute of her consulting with another staff member about something unrelated. We were delirious with hunger. My club Sandwich had lovely chicken which was...totally unseasoned. No salt or pepper. Reader, I ate it, as I could not be bothered to a) ask for salt b) explain that ideally a bit of seasoning on a £13.50 sandwich is not too much to ask. My wife's grilled veg sandwich (also £13.50) was lovely but about half the size to fill her petite 5' 2" frame. While we ate (10 mins to devour) we watched the kitchen lackey delivering trays of freshly washed cups back to the front desk, and the main front of house tending the cutlery tray, as well as the chef wandering about. My advice would be:1) front of house: check food is ok and customers happy- play with the cakes afterwards. 2) Chef: put seasoning on food. 3) owners: sort this out! We want you to succeed!4) readers: go, and have the club Sandwich and create merry hell if it is tasteless. We were just too tired to do so.

So the kitchen was closed, they had a new chef who hadn't sorted out the menu....so only drinks and buy your own food from the deli. These things happen but the guy who brought the coffee when asked for some more hot milk was so Grumpenlooken. Hope your experience is better.

We are just starting to eat out again after lock-down and BTTG was a venue high on our list of places to breakfast...........but, for the price they charge, we consider their offering to represent poor value for money - especially since they don't take bookings and we had to travel there "in hope"

Really tasty breakfast here. Plenty of choice and a farm shop too with locally sourced produce which also identifies the provenance of the meat etc. Parking is also easy and accessible from all local areas.

Come here a couple of times a week with my wife and its our favourite place on earth to be, especially when the flowers are now coming out in the garden. the staff are friendly and have almost become part of our family ! They serve the best coffee we've ever tasted too, I believe its brought direct from Italy and is just what we needs for a kick start to the morning.

Been several times as am a local, and never leave reviews BUT I was so disappointed I feel the need. Dropped in for a coffee in the garden, which is lovely by the way, ordering a cappuccino with oat milk. Shocked by the price of £2.95 PLUS 50p for the oat milk. I could have gone somewhere else I suppose but, you know! I asked for some sugar and was brought a sachet of Sweet n Low. Talk about shocked! One of my pet hates is nasty chemical ridden sweeteners. This place is renowned for its organic healthy produce and they are offering aspartame ?? I went and got a brown sugar that they did have. However, I was concerned by the price and the unhealthy sugar and I thought I should mention both issues in a nice email. The response was totally arrogant ......pricing is fair apparently as they make no profit from the oat milk (very funny), and didn’t acknowledge that they could offer healthy sweetener options ......Hence this review. Staff lovely.
