Awesome Thai #Finchley in Barnet

It was a surprise coming here and not finding the place with the good reviews I wanted to try. It seems this is a new place and I gave it a try anyway. The service was prompt and the meal delicious, nothing to complain about it. And I have to say I always tried pad Thai in different places, and this might be one of my favourites.

The restaurant has been bought by another company a month ago. The food was absolutely delicious and the portion sizes were very large - I usually struggle to feel full but felt full after this meal. Mickey was an amazing waiter who made us feel very welcomed and at home.

Hummm was fab and delicious, but just taken over by new management and food has detiorated. Chicken in pad thai and red curry quite chewy, panang curry nowhere as tasty as it used to be. Rather annoying as it was very very good. Now seems just OK...And the complimentary prawn crackers are off the menu! Message to the new owners - Have a chat with the past chefs and see if you can sort out the food... please.

Not as spicy as I'd like my Thai to be. Still delicious w very generous portion sizes. Really liked the black pepper squid starter. We came starving and left fulfilled.

Awesome food but NOT so awesome manager--or whoever she was who was managing the bookings and tables today. We made a reservation and we had children and two prams, and she kept on staring at us as it was wrong that we brought our children. It made our dining experience very uncomfortable. She even took the chair of one of our friends even if we were not finished dining in yet. HORRIBLE and RUDE! Never gonna dine in a place that is not welcoming to children.

Authentic, fresh and delicious Thai food ! Fair prices and lovely staff! My favourite place to have lunch whenever I have the chance. Well done, guys!

Far from awesome!!! Ordered a Deliveroo from here and was so so disappointed. The corn cakes were SO oily, literally dripping in oil and soggy, with no flavour either. The chicken in the Panang curry had been boiled to death and then we found hair in it so the whole thing went in the bin. Pad Thai lacked seasoning too, the only saving grace was the Som Tam. Baffled by all the positive reviews on here! We eat a lot of Thai food and have visited Thailand multiple times too so know our stuff and certainly won’t be getting food from here again!

I ordered a take away and was surprised that they no longer delivering unless it’s Deliveroo. The gentleman on the phone advised that they have changed management and name will change but the food and chef are the same ( but the menu has changed!?) . My husband went to collect the food. No complementary prawn crackers. Now wants £4. The curries are tasty but watery. Definitely cost cutting following a change in management at the cost of service and quality food provided by management under awesome Thai. What a shame! Won’t be going again.

Awesome Thai used to be one of the best Thai restaurants in north London. New ownership has brought a different simplified menu which does not live up to the previous. Still good and relatively cheap, but not great.

No longer Awesome. The restaurant has changed hands recently and the menu has been severely cut short. We used to think this really was a great Thai restaurant but now, the menu is ordinary and the food is only ok. The special dishes you wouldn’t find anywhere else are now extinct. The service is still great and the atmosphere is pleasant. I doubt we’ll be going back.

Visited for lunch , greatly welcoming and generous hospitality due to giving a discount because of noise coming from construction workers renovating the room in the back.

Wow amazing food a must try. New owners smaller menus. The food is very fresh and has amazing taste. Miss the fish cakes though. Aj the owner manager is a great guy who looks after all his customers. Definitely worth a visit.

Beware… the menu online is not what you will get in terms of price or ingredients. New ownership. We used to be a huge fan of the original awesome Thai and got takeaways regularly. We ordered food last week and it was very different to the usual. My husband called to understand why the dishes and prices had changed as the online menu did not reflect this. The gentleman on the phone said there was a change in ownership and the new menu is on a different website! He was overall very unhelpful and the food was disappointing. Smaller portions and lacking in quality and taste. We won’t be going there again.

Love the new Lunch menu, plenty of choice. I had the 2 course meal, salt and pepper squid starter and green curry veg with steamed rice for the main. Highly recommend

The new owners have done such an incredible job! I absolutely adore the re-do, the new menu is so much easier to order from. I had the Thai green curry with coconut rice and you can tell it was all super fresh. Not to mention the floor staff are incredibly friendly :)

I’ve eaten here 3 times now and the quality of the restaurant holds amazing every time, I’ve been to many Thai restaurants both in London and in Thailand, this place is as authentic as it can get with the food and service being top tier each time. Would highly recommend this place :)

Just to preface I am a regular of this restaurant , it was always the best thai place in north london. Unfortunately the new owners have changed the restaurant a lot, the menu is no longer as varied as it once was, they are also charging extra for sides such as rice where it used to be part of the meal. The general food quality seems to have gone down as well, there was a lot of grease and seemed microwaved to be frank. Clearly they are trying to cut on costs, no longer offer a complimentary chef’s special which made the place stand out. The duck roll has about a teaspoon of minced duck across the whole dish, very disappointing. A staple of North London, lost into a fast food chain. Service and servers are still polite but no longer the place it was.

Great place for authentic Thia! The food is lovely, fresh and very satisfying. The staff are very friendly and very knowledgeable about dishes, ingredients and cooking style. Especially as someone who eats out often with a vegan, full of questions and often met with ‘huh’. The service was great!! Thanks awesome Thia… oh and in this cost of living crisis the prices are fair 🙌🏽

We went here for dinner as a family on Sunday. Good value for money and the food was decent. I wonder how they can charge £4 for a lemonade but I guess that's the rise in the cost of living for you. The coconut rice was a big hit with our table.

Overall a solid place. Food is nothing to complain about and I am a big fan of some of their chef specials. The massaman spaghetti is a surprisingly great dish, seems like a surprising concept but a great dish to have.

Terrible experience, the lamb curry was extremely fatty and the duck curry was requested hot, but had no flavour at all. Service was also non existent, the chef and managers feedback was disgusting and very disappointing. Was a regular and won’t be back ever again

Came here after hearing so much about it. The food was actually nice and was served pretty quickly. However, the service by the single gentleman waiting was sub par. He was not warm or welcoming and appeared to just want to get the job done. I would recommend booking during peak hours.

Really pleased to have been recommended this restaurant. The Penang and Green curries are superb. I came here to meet an old friend and it was great food and great service. It feels hidden from the street as the darkened windows and discreet signage were the reason why I've walked past so many times without noticing it was there. The staff are polite don't hurry you along. The decor isn't the most up to date but the food more than makes up for it. Highly recommended.

We went as a family of 8 for a birthday meal tonight. The food was excellent and very authentic, good service too. We are Bangladeshi but have visited Thailand on holidays ... I would highly recommend their tom yum soup, pad Thai noodles, curries, chicken satay good too ( my 4 year old enjoyed that) . The soup was particularly brilliant. Thank you very much we will be back :)

Their seasoning could be a bit too much for someone. The pad thai is quite salty and oily imo.

Used to be Thai&Co which was amazing. This place is just mediocre at best. My experience although some time ago, I see that there are reviewers experiencing exact same as I did; poorly seasoned, unauthentic cuisine. Beware of the fake 5 star reviews. If you want good Thai food look elsewhere (outside Finchley).

Fairly good Thai food, although we were a little disappointed as we've have better for all three dishes that we had, both in London and Thailand. I had chicken pad Thai, papaya salad and a fried rice (forgot which one though). Good service.

Just came home from dinner with the family. For the Food(please see pictures): • Pad Spagetti was good.✅ • Tom Kha chicken was to much of coconut cream and FULL of these very hard things(in the picture )that I had to keep taking out of my mouth(very annoying).❌ The main thing that was a killer and EXTREMELY depressing was: • The atmosphere! 👎We were given the table at the very back of the restaurant, the light were very very dim, room was very dark and not pleasant to stay. Our kids normally enjoy staying longer after dinner and eating desert but for the first time EVER they kept asking to go out the restaurant 🤣🤣🤣🤣. I personally would rearrange the restaurant seats or make sure that the back of the restaurant would be more lively and pleasant to stay. I think they keep the room dark at the back to hide the bad state of the white chairs that really need replacement! It feels filthy/dirty to sit on it. Interesting experience. I don't think we would come back.

Starters better than main courses. Quality do not reflect high prices. Service not great but what was really disapointing was the fact to be asked and reminded twice for for a tip as they dont have service charge. I feel they would rather include this in the bill saving tthe begging poor attitude at the table.

Well, this is our second takeaway and we've eaten in once..... Firstly, this is great Thai food but I must feedback that the takeaway had gone up 50% in 6 months. Pad Thai chicken lovely £10.95, mixed meat special fried rice lovely £10.95 BUT £12.95 for only 2 small scallops feels like a rip off. Yes, times are hard but really? 3 dishes takeaway for £35.40, that's steep. Minor detail but not even a free small bag of prawn crackers, they cost buttons wholesale but soften the blow off extortionate prices, this is North Finchley in a parade of unremarkable outlets. We will seriously review ordering again, too expensive although tasty. Sorry.

Really good food. I’m half Thai and lived in Thailand for years and find it tough to find good authentic Thai. If you ask, they can make it more to Thai taste. The food was lovely and service exceptional. The food was hot (heat), fresh and spice levels to your taste. Will be back! The Penang was super and the portions are very generous.

Well-priced and generally tasty food. Lots of variety on the menu and very patient waiting staff. I just wish it didn't close so early during lunch times.

Came for a late lunch on a Thursday with a friend and getting a table for 2 was easy. Staff were friendly and attentive, and the food was absolutely delicious and came out quickly. We ordered the pork garlic stir fry with rice and a chicken pad see ew. Would definitely come again to try other dishes on the menu.

Thai restaurant to remember 🍛🇹🇭 My partner and I had the pleasure of eating at Awesome Thai in Finchley yesterday. The food provided was of a high standard, nothing too much trouble, the interior decor was colourful and modern, clean and well maintained. We were greeted with a smile - the waiter/waitress were committed to great service and were very friendly. Food was served within 7 minutes, and I would suggest ordering the chicken satay for a starter as it was mouth-wateringly delicious. The succulent pieces of aromatic chicken married with that spiced peanut satay sauce was a combination met in harmony. We had then been given our mains soon after- Pad-thai and Red Thai curry served with fragrant jasmine rice which has left quite an impression. The mains were colourful and presented spectacularly with a heated stand. The flavours were rich and perfectly balanced promoting the taste of Thailand. Both of us were thoroughly impressed and had left a taste to remember.

Tastey dishes. Some dishes a bit on the sweet side. Service in the back room can be patchey.

This restaurant does Thai food extremely well. My son's favourite meal is thai red curry; he has it everywhere we go, and he said his is the best he's had! Our meals were also superb; very tasty. The service was good, but the waiter was busy on his own. The atmosphere was hard to gauge as we ate at lunchtime and it was very bright. Overall, for the quality of the food alone, this is highly recommended.

The food was lovely. Colourful and tasty. Having been to Thailand myself a few times i know how kind and gentle thai people are. Such a shame that the evening ended up a bit embarrassing on their behalf. Because of a mistake they made. I paid the bill (nearly £70 for 2) only to then realise that it was 10 pence short. I know right. Shock. The gentleman came running over to state i owed him 10p. Now i appreciate times are hard and a business is a business. But i also appreciate customer care and we told him we would be back over and over again to eat. Sadly we won't be. At his discretion he could have turned a blind a eye having spent £70 in there over 10p!!!! I gave him 20p and i then proceeded to stated i would like my 10p change. Absolutely pathetic and trivial i know. But he chose to proclaim that 10p is far greater needed then welcoming new clientele who would have actually no doubt would have visited his restaurant weekly! As we are local. He was embarrassed to the point he didn't even return my 10p change to myself and instead sent his waiting staff to give it back to me. Was very embarrassing. On his behalf. Pathetic and on the grand scheme of things actually quite sad. In the world we living in we should be embracing kindness and welcoming business. I didn't rob the restaurant of 10p. I spent a lot of money in there and would have become a very loyal customer. Shame he couldn't have turned a blind eye.

Went on a very quiet dead Monday evening. Thoroughly enjoyed our food, even expressed how we were looking forward to coming back. We won't be. Having spent nearly £70 in there (with us being the only ones in there) something happened with the bill to find out we paid....LISTEN to this 10 PENCE less!!!!!!! 10p. He sprinted over to say you guys owe me 10p. Wow. I mean i get times are hard and a business is a business. But spending £70 in a establishment. Being new customers. Would you have not maybe allowed it at the your discretion? *he was the owner. So i apologised and handed him 20 pence, i then proceeded to say I would like my 10p change. I know right. Trivial? Pathetic some may say. But in the long run he would and could have had us dining there every week. Such a shame over 10p, he has lost his locals. Will stick to the Japanese gaff across the road! Who know us and have gained our loyalty over the years. Note to owner. Wanting to entice new customs. In future, balance out wanting 10p or £70 customers. Such a shame. Was very embarrassing for you.

We enjoyed our meal at Awesome Thai very much. We were looking for restaurants with good reviews and good portion sizes and found it here. We both got the Pad Thai as well as two appetizers and enjoyed it all.

I don’t think I’ve ever left a bad review, but also I can’t remember the last time I didn’t eat my lunch because I didn’t like the taste of it at all. Ate the starter (fried tofu) that was good enough. Ordered the vege pad Thai for main and had two bites, partner tried it and also agreed. It really wasn’t good. Tasted of wet dog to me, to him of burned pan that had cooked meat before. But I’m too shy to complain. As we were paying waiter asked if I wanted to take away I said no thank you. He then asked if I didn’t like it, I said no I didn’t like the taste of it but (because I’m shy) I added maybe that’s just me don’t worry about it. And he didn’t. We paid. And left. Shame as I like Thai food and hate leaving bad reviews.

This thai restaurant is perfect for couples as they have some brilliant atmosphere with lovely services with the employees.

Very enjoyable evening. Ordered a selection of main dishes and was happy with all. Fish and Lamb were delicious Really recommend the banana fritters for dessert too. Staff were really nice. Happy to leave us alone to just relax and have a very leisurely meal. Jasmin tea was refreshed when requested and prices were very reasonable Recommended.

Had lunch as a group then we ordered Chef’s specials: Grilled marinated fish fillet and crispy soft shell crab. The fish melted in the mouth and the Pandan leaves aroma was amazing. Soft shell crab was good and its sauce was a star (crunchy and refreshing)! We also had grilled chicken which was juicy and the sauce was so good. The Pad Thai we had was seafood and it was delicious, absolutely loved it! Last but not least, the thai red curry. The spices in it was not overpowering, it was light, savory, and perfectly matched with rice.
