Atkinson's Fish & Chip Restaurant in Lancaster

All I can say is the food was OK, a little overpriced, in my opinion.

This was our first time visiting Atkinson's after hearing good things from various people over the years. I can certainly say it lives up to the hype! The best chippy tea I've had in years, will definitely be back with family in the future. The staff were friendly and the food was as fresh as you can get!

Back for the fourth time. Now our standard pit stop on our way to Scotland. Still great fish and chips and very friendly efficient staff. Quite possibly the best fish and chips in the UK

Today I had fish, chips and peas from Atkinsons for lunch. The days when fish & chips were a cheap meal have gone so when I have some as a treat I want to have the best. Atkinsons certainly provides that. A huge portion of freshly cooked tasty chips accompanied a fish. Now I’m a bit picky about fish. My parents use to have Swindells fish & chip shop on Queen Street and, if I say it myself, Dad’s fish was the best. So, what about Atkinsons? I had a generous portion of haddock cooked in a crispy batter. Sometimes you can buy fish elsewhere that doesn’t taste of anything but this certainly wasn’t true of the fish I had. It was a chunky fresh haddock full of flavour with every mouthful a delight. I’ll be back.

Tripadvisor is right to rate this place! Although a bit pricey, the food is worth it. Surprisingly even busy on a Sunday evening in March, but there were tables and we were served by friendly locals. If you are visiting Morecambe, I'd recommend this place.

We were staying in Arnside, and I had my heart stuck on fish and chips. But couldn’t believe the chippy shut in Arnside at 7.30pm. Having been driving all day around the Lake District we were deeply disappointed. On searching fish and chip shops and seeing most shut at 8pm. And as it was 8pm I was Hangry. I’m a purist and want fish and chips from a fish and chip shop. Not a pub, not a Chinese and not a pizza takeaway. Morecambe bay looked are only chance. 30mins drive we headed to Atkinson’s. Fish was fresh, chips were nice and the mushy peas were sublime. And the staff friendly. We sat in the car overlooking the bay thoroughly content and glad we made the effort. Please support this chippy as it’s real. Apologies for the photo it was so good we actually ate it rather than take a photo.

Great little restaurant to eat and take the kids

Four of us visited for dinner before heading off to the football. Absolutely fantastic food and fantastic service. The fish was fresh and cooked to perfection and the chips were delicious. Having eaten in many well known fish and chip shops across the north of England I can honestly say Atkinsons is up there with the best. Well done and thank you very much.

Excellent haddock and chips. Fresh and delicious. Great staff and can’t wait to come back again. They have a board telling you where the fish was caught and the farm the spuds came from.

Lovely fish and chip place. Take away one side, sit down cafe/restaurant in the other. The home made fish cake was great and the curry sauce portion was ace!

I think that this was my 4th visit. Always really good. Staff are friendly and attentive and the fish and chips are excellent. Mushy peas, slice of lemon, tartare sauce… everything is good. Always a good experience and whoever I take is impressed.

We ate in the restaurant, which had a very nice calm atmosphere. The staff were lovely and the food was served quickly. The food was very good, with a healthy portion size. The chips in particular had a perfect crispiness!

Not sure if it's changed hands, but this time I visited the food was awful, chips and scampi were greasy, my mum was so looking forward to them, as previously she said they were so good. I don't get the opportunity to take her out that often. I was also told the chips are cooked with other meat products, so being a vegetarian, this is not acceptable, especially when their menu has chips included on their vegetarian area of the menu, so not really vegetarian. Must say we will not be going back, the service though is very good, just shame about the food.

Great chippy, decided to eat in with my daughter after a recommendation from a friend. Had the Tuesday special of Fish chips peas tea bread and butter. Turned out cracking and great value. Definitely going here again soon. Strongly recommend.

Came here in January 2025 following good reviews, we were not disappointed at all, quick and clean service, staff are very welcoming and the food is fantastic, very close to the beach, the dog loved it, plus easy parking nearby..

Visited here at the end of September. It was recommended by a local lady that had overheard our conversation. It was a real treat to sit in their restaurant, with a lovely relaxed atmosphere. They seem to be proud of their home made beer batter, and quite rightly. It was indeed delicious. It was reasonably priced for a fish and chip restaurant in a seaside town.

An excellent meal. The best fish and chips I’ve eaten for a long while. As it is almost Christmas we were given free mince pies and cream! Staff are very helpful and do everything possible to give you everything you need to enjoy a delicious meal.

Very rude. Didn't want to give a single person a table as they know if they seat more more money.

I ordered then returned to my car, leaving my partner to wait (15 minutes!) for the food. Atkinson's are lucky I wasn't there when they wrapped mine, because I simply wouldn't have accepted that fish, it was fit for the bin. Batter was ridiculously overcooked & the fish, which had been cut with a razor blade, was dry as a bone. They've an absolute cheek charging what they do for that. Train your friers & instruct your counter staff to have a bit of pride in what they're serving! Needless to say, if you do go here make sure you look at the food before they wrap it & get them told to replace it if it's no good.

We visited the restaurant today and we were very impressed it’s our first visit back to Morecambe in 20 years. It’s clean and spacious and well laid out easy to get round. The staff were very polite and professional and served us quickly checking if everything was alright. The food was freshly cooked and good size portions. Something for all the family child size portions and vegan option.

Visiting Morecambe, we’d been recommended this chippy for lunch. Big fans of good fish and chips we decided to give Atkinsons a whirl. Well, very glad we did! We were served by a very friendly lady, the restaurant part was spotlessly clean, ditto the toilet. Husband chose the salt and pepper squid, with chips, and I had haddock and chips. The fish was full of lovely flakes and delicious. Some of the crispest batter and chips I’ve ever eaten. Husband said his squid was a good 9/10 - and he’s a tough cookie! Would wholeheartedly recommend Atkinsons to anyone visiting the town. Very glad we tried them.

Stopped off for fish and chips with the family as last time we were impressed by the food from the take out part. The fish and chips were delicious and the portion sizes are large so you definitely get value for money. The staff are very friendly and the food came quickly. Will definitely go back.

Not sure what all the hype is! Most expensive chip shop in morecambe and heysham. Staff to busy talking about nights put than serving.

11th October I bought a mini fish and chips about 30 mins ago, they were disgusting, both fish and chips were luke warm, despite asking if the chips were hot. The batter on the fish was soggy as were the chips. I shouldn't have accepted the mini fish ' which was spare'. What has happened, this place used to be excellent, I'm done, and won't be back. A photo of what is going in the bin!

We were passing through Morecambe on our way home and stopped here for fish and chips. We wanted a lighter meal so asked for the seniors special which was very reasonably priced and came with tea, bread and butter. A generous portion arrived of lovely chips and excellent fish with just the right amount of well cooked batter and a pot of mushy peas. Nice to see a decent pot of tea served with extra hot water too. We had a lovely, friendly waitress and we couldn’t fault anything. The restaurant side of the shop was clean and bright with tables for two and four place settings. We really enjoyed our meal and thought it was great value. We’ll definitely be back next time we’re nearby.

Best place for a chippy in Morecambe! Brilliant value for money and really yummy! This place gets really popular though so you might have to wait a bit but it’s worth it for the food!! Staff friendly too.

Visited after a break of many years and the food was excellent and the service fast and efficient. Plus bonus scallops free.

Overpriced for what got.fish small for price and chips dry and scrappy, found a better one.

A good, cosy, staple restaurant. Our Haddock was nice but would have been better if the batter had stuck to it. It was slightly underdone and a little bit soggy. Nothing that a couple of minutes extra in the fryer could have put right. That said, the meal was enjoyable enough and averagely priced.

In Morecambe attending Vintage Cars and music venue. It’s not complete if you don’t visit “Atkinsons Fish Restaurant”in Albert Road for a meal. It doesn’t need to be Fish& Chips ant meal that they serve are all delicious and the service you get is excellent. All aspects of this place is good exceptional clean all round and fantastic staff. Highly recommended

Fantastic fish and chips loved it!

Absolutely lovely fish and chips, crispy batter. Very fresh and the standard portion with peas was very filling. Staff very responsive, helpful and friendly. Couldn’t fault it on a busy bank holiday. (Apart from the moaning grumbling couple sat behind me 🤣 mind you, you can’t choose your clients). Thank you we had a lovely meal.

Went for a family lunch with my daughter and 3 Grand children 7 , 5 and 3, the kids meals were excellent, all plates cleared, I had the chicken curry and that was superb, the staff Bernie and Colleen were wonderful with us especially the children, giving them colouring in and crayons. A wonderful family restaurant would definitely recommend.

Fabulous service really friendly people and great food. We're cycling the way of the Roses over the next 3 days, and it was a great meal before we left.

Having decided to visit Morecombe for some fresh air and a walk along the prom, then came where to eat. Searching the web, we found Atkinson’s and decided to give it a try, we are glad we did. Luckily, we found a free table and sat down and a charming waitress, brought us cutlery and said she would take our order in a few minutes, which she did. Our drinks arrived promptly, and not long after our fish and chips came not long after. When we had finished all four plates were empty, which is testament to the quality of the food we were served. The restaurant was very clean and pleasant. We were the last dinners of the day, and the staff were completely pleasant and cheerful at the end of the day. If you are in Morecombe, it’s worth visiting this gem to either eat in or take away

I'm a visitor from 'Down South' so unfortunately I can't be a regular. Their haddock and chips were the best we've ever had, the batter was crispy & light, the fish was lovely and white, the chips were perfect. We sat in about 7pm and the service was nice & friendly. I wish you could open in South Gloucestershire! 😁

Absolutely perfect Haddock chips and curry sauce. Haddock so fresh and firm in scrumptious crispy batter. Chips and curry sauce without fault. Staff busy but very friendly. This is a must go place to visit if in Morecombe. Eating on the sea front with the lake district hills a million pound view. Wow

Not dog friendly , not friendly at all. Didn't stay for fish and chips as didn't feel very welcome as we had 2 well behaved dogs. Some of the customers were reluctant to accept them, not management fault but under the impression from website that it was dog friendly. Won't be returning.

The best haddock and chips I have eaten for a long time. Crispy batter, soft fish, no grease at all. Chips very fluffy inside and curry sauce was absolutely delicious.

Great fish and chips. Best I've had for ages. Chips were extremely tasty. They seem to take extra care on quality. Fish cooked to order and it even lists the boat the fish was caught on and where the potatoes come from. Daughter was not overly impressed with flavour of sausage in batter but I can't comment. Would highly recommend.

Thoroughly enjoyed visiting the restaurant ! It had been recommended to me by some local football supporters of Morecambe FC. I had Scampi and chips which came with side salad and tartare sauce . The pot of tea complimented the meal . Lovely informal staff and a very pleasant location just a few strides from West End promenade . Brilliant ! 😊

Went to Atkinsons on the off chance as just staying in the area overnight and we weren’t disappointed. We ate in and both had haddock and chips which were cooked to perfection. The mushy peas and curry sauce were both good too. Best of all was the customer service. The staff were friendly and very helpful. Well worth a visit if you are in the area.

Nipped over the border to have a seaside supper. The price was right as was the service and food. These wonderful institutions need our support and I'd highly recommend you give this plaice yours.

Best chips in a very long time. The fish (haddock) was well received too. Friendly and fast service. I also appreciated the Fentimans drink. Not many tables, but we didn't wait to sit down.

My wife and I used this chip shop yesterday ( 11/07/24 ) for the first time and it is superb. We each had a chip bun and when it arrived we were extremely surprised by the amount of chips that came with the bun and the cooking was first class. The price was excellent and the restaurant is very clean with very friendly and polite staff. We highly recommend this chip shop to anyone looking for a feed.

Thought we'd try here for dinner after seeing a lot of positive reviews and we weren't disappointed. Fish and chips were excellent, nice crispy batter coating well cooked fish and the chips were spot on. A big thumbs up from both my wife and 3 year old daughter. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, even giving our daughter a picture to colour in with a box of pencils without us asking. And we were allowed to bring in some fruit that we'd packed for our daughter after her fish and chips. The restaurant was well presented and clean so overall a very good experience. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a decent plate of fish and chips

Google states open until 9pm, arrived at 7.15 to find it already shut - certainly won’t bother again even though recommended to us. Not happy!

An updated review. My previous review was 5 stars and now I give it 1. I visited at teatime on Saturday 29/06/24. Paid £41.20 for family Fish & Chips and I wish I went elsewhere. Generally unfriendly, unchatty service. Not even a thank you after taking my payment. The chips were old and had a horrible taste (might have been old oil). The fish wasn't very nice. Soggy tasteless batter and the fish was far from fresh. It was so disgusting, I had to spit it out and was immediately swarmed by seagulls, who wanted nothing to do with it either. We all felt queasy with an unsettled stomach. I really don't know if Atkinsons have been taken over (new management) or not, but this was totally RANK and the next time I visit Morecambe, I'll be going elsewhere.

Went for a fish take away...£8 it was in a box and I went back to my accommodation to consume it. When i opened the box.... fish batter was overcooked...looked as if it had been re-cooked/re-heated. Our Accomm. Was too far away to go back and complain.... £8 wasted... My wife who is a chef could not believe what they served. Sorry Atkinson you must of had inexperienced staff yesterday evening...

Staff were polite, and the restaurant was clean and tidy. The food was, as usual, presented very well and tasted amazing.

Awfull,had heard good reviews about Atkinsons but food was disgusting,husband had steak pie which looked like it had been in the warmer all day,he couldnt eat it as was so dry and burnt,my haddock was soggy on the batter and the chips were awful,i will never go here again

I visited here one Sunday with a friend. We ordered the haddock with chips and one with peas and one curry sauce. The curry sauce was massive! The fish was delicious and really meaty. Very nice! The restaurant is nice and welcoming. Only reason for one star less is the absolute outrageous price for a slice of bread. 90 pence!!! Really????? Yes, one slice is 90 pence!
