Athens Grill in Derby

We went to the Athens Grill after a visit to the cinema at Derbion. We had read the many good reviews online so we were really looking forward to trying it. We ordered the mixed grill for two people. After a lovely hot drink the very pleasant and friendly woman in the restaurant brought out a big plateful of grilled meat. Unfortunately we were very disappointed with most of the meat kebabs on the plate. We found the majority of the meat very dry. We didn't say anything at the time, though we should have done. We left a tip on the bill as the service had been so friendly. We also brought some of the leftover kebabs home as It seemed a shame to waste so much food. I decided against eating it at home as it would have been even worse after reheating it. Needless to say we shall not be going back again.

Absolutely great food! Sofia was outstanding waitress and helped us navigate the phenomenal menu. Definitely returning to experience this wonderful restaurant!!

First time here and will definately be back. The moussaka was great. Next time I'll try the chicken kebabs.

Really authentic tasty Greek food. Best tzatziki I have had outside of Greece. Lovely giros and souvlaki. Friendly staff. A starter, main and a beer for under £20 each. Will return.

Wow, what can I say, this place is the real deal, taste just like you was in Greece, food presentation is beautiful presented, slight down side was the waitress English wasn't great but she knew enough not to get the order wrong, unlike McDonald's where they understand and still get orders wrong lol but don't let that put you off, it adds to the ambience of the place like you been teleported to Greece. Will visit again, worth the effort to eat here.

Was in the area for business with my partner and found this little treasure. Following the Google reviews we came here today. Family/ couple runner little cafe. We ordered a gyros plate and a pork souvlaki. Service was at a relaxing pace which we enjoyed. Presentation beautiful and food delicious. You can taste the sauces are home made. Pork souvlaki had a nice char and soft, not at all dry, and the gyros plate...The meat was never ending . Two meals one coffee one soft drink £31 bargain Would 100% come back if im in the area

Amazing food, always good quality and delicious. Lovely owners, finding a delivery driver has been difficult occasionally. But would 100% order again even with that.

One of the best takeaways I’ve had. Food was hot, delicious and plenty of it.

Ate at the Athens Grill on the 30th December. We fancied something a little different this year so booked a table for 2. A warm friendly welcome was given & shown to a table. There was no rush to order but we knew what we wanted in advance. We ordered the sharing platter for 2 & meatballs in tomato sauce , 2 bottles of Mythos beer & a diet coke. The meal was utterly delicious , the tastes & meats all done to perfection. On reflection, it was far too much for us to handle , lol , so the remainder was boxed up to take away. The service was perfect & nothing was too much trouble. The Athens Grill is worthy of the 4.9 rating but from me it's a solid 10 . If we come back to Derby next year I'll be sure to book a table. Food was absolutely beautiful , very fresh and tasty. We had the calamari , Greek salad and potatoes. Food was just like in Greece, calamari was tender and juicy with not too much batter. Greek salad was huge and delicious. We will be back again

Food was amazing. Restaurant were very helpful letting me know the driver was delayed. But very happy with everything from the restaurant will definitely order from here again.

Unbelievably good value for money. It's not fine dining but it's tasty, place looks clean and staff is very helpful. You have to try the dips, especially the aubergine one.

Been here a few times and always found the food to be spot on. Service can be slow but the food more than makes up for it.

The food is lovely but this is the secind time we've ordered from here and they've forgotten the Tzatziki for our gyros meal. Quite disappointing.

I had the lamb souvlaki. I thought it was not bad but the lamb could have been seasoned better. No real side options and I think one wrap was not enough but two would be too many.

The place is great. The food there is delicious and the atmosphere is nice. The prices are the best in the area, and the portions are very abundant.

Chicken gyros wrap came with tzatziki sauce after stating ‘No tzatziki sauce paprika sauce instead’ in the instructions box.. I rang them and they resolved it and sent me a fresh one out straight away which arrived within 15 mins and it was actually delicious!! Which I appreciate So I can’t fault them, I would order again becuase the gyros are amazing. Thankyou

Just had a great meal at the Athens Grill. Started with 2 Feta dips, and then the Athens sharing platter, tip, only order if very hungry. All the food was superb, fresh and tasty. Great friendly staff, ligh and comfortable place with ample room, highly recommended

We visited today for the first time with my wife and daughter. We came from another city. It was simply the highest level of cuisine and service. We really liked everything. The food is excellent. First time ordering from here and I can say the chicken gyros are delicious! Instructions was followed, lovely fresh potato cut chips, the feta saganaki was abit tough but still nice, would definitely order again, Thankyou!

I am already a regular client feeling at home in this amazing place. Coffee- the best coffee in Derby. They do also ice coffee- one of my favourites. In the mornings you can find homemade pitas or what I call a Philadelphia stick ( don’t know the right name )..must try it!! Dining in alone or when in company is always rewarding. The food is fresh and high quality. I am vegetarian and they have a lot of options meat free.Dakos- to try!! I attended a few birthday parties in this restaurant and the service and the food were perfect as always although we were a big group. Today I made the first time online delivery at my workplace..portions were big, and I got even unexpected extra treats (chocolate balls ). Highly recommend. An extremely rare quality for Derby. Go and check it for yourself.

Eat at Athens grill Saturday night , service excellent, food excellent. Nice and clean , couldn’t fault . I had vegetarian my wife had lamb gyros plus starters . Very nice .

Lovely little restaurant. The staff were super friendly and on the ball. The food was also amazing. Really enjoyable "holiday-like" atmosphere and decorated very nice inside. Very clean. Ice cold Mythos and tasty gyros, you can't go wrong! Will defo be back.

The food is excellent with a good amount of menu options. My wife is vegetarian and she had plenty of choice. Good portion size and excellent service. I was surprised at how low our bill was for the quality and quantity of food we had. Highly recommend!

A cracking Greek experience. Whilst in Derby I was craving some BBQ meat and salad; I found Athens Grill and was not disappointed. The owner was very accomodating and chilled - no pressure/rush to order. He explained what was on the menu, and recommended some dishes. We ended up sharing what I can only describe as a pile of lovely meat. I think it the mixed sharing platter; it was delicious. I returned a second time and he remembered me, which was a nice touch. I had a Greek salad on the side which literally had a block of feta in it, it was superb.

Ordered 2 wraps without onions and one without sauce due to lactose intolerance, but they both arrived with onions and sauce. Also the amount of meat in the wrap is a joke and it was mostly chips. This is my first and last order from this place.

I cannot say how much I love their traditional soups. Always made me feel like I'm back home in Europe sitting at my grandmother's garden enjoying my childhood. So if you wanna feel like you eating on your holidays go to Athens grill. Thank you guys I'll be back tomorrow.

Brilliant food, had the sharing platter and ended up taking a box home with us! Great friendly service even turning the aircon on for us as it was red hot outside. Finished the meal and then stayed to chat with him outside with frozen glasses of lager. Will definitely revisit 😘👌

Beautiful lunch for four and great service. Despite what the website said it was open for lunch. We had 2 x calamari and 2 xmeatballs followed by 4 x gyros plate, plus drinks - all excellent. We will be back.

We ordered the grill plate and it was absolutely delicious and a huge portion. We will definitely be ordering again! The only thing id change was the greek salad being sliced more finely, but that could be personal preference and was still very tasty. Id also like to make a public apology to my boyfriend for eating (his) final Chicken Wing.

Decided to order freshly sliced potatoes with a sprinkle of feta and oregano, but we won’t be ordering this again as all it was was the same frozen chips that come with the mains and wraps with melted cheese on top. Everything else was nice, but this did let it down as it’s false advertising.

I ordered Chicken Gyros, Spanakopita and a Greek salad. When they arrived the Salad was brown and old, at least a day or two old in the Spanakopita box although the spanakopita itself was nice and crisp. The Actual Greek salad at £9 a pop was so old the skin on the tomatoes was crinkly and the cucumber fell apart, it was on the turn, disgusted at the state of this really. The chicken inside the Gyros was nice but the Pita was hard and rubbery, like it had been out at least a day or two. Really disappointed and wont be ordering from these again

Great place with authentic Greek food. Me and my partner ar massive Greek cuisine fans. We attempted to visit this place twice before, but it was closed. This time, we were lucky. We ordered a shared Athern platter for 2 and calamari as a starter. The platter was enormous and everything was very tasty. The lady that was taking care of us was very polite and professional. She also took great care of our little one by providing us with some drawing board for her. We will be back again!

Stopped by for some lunch with a friend. Great menu. Lovely decor and nice sun trap seating area out the front, the food was lovely and fresh. Staff and owner friendly too. A little GEM to derby! Well worth a visit.

Food was sensational, absolutely beautiful! Felt like we were abroad inside, great family vibe and atmosphere, we were well looked after. Food was fresh and homemade (best tzatziki ever tasted) and reasonably priced couldn’t recommend more!

Food is absolutely amazing and we’ll definitely order again. Only slight downside was the late delivery and it wasn’t hot. However it tasted that good we didn’t mind. We live a good 20 minute drive away so expected. We will deffo be back soon

The food was lovely, hot and fresh. The veg souvlaki wrap was really tasty and the feta, green pepper and tomato was very good. Although I didn't get the dip it was very nice food.

We've ordered the gyros portion with my wife and we were very pleasantly suprised. The food arrived quickly, it was still hot, and full of flavour. The portion is quite large, so if you're ordering for two and you're not big eaters it could easily be shared, but I've managed to finish my portion (just about)

We ate here tonight, early because we took children. The restaurant was so clean and appealing, neatly laid out with the lady who met us being so welcoming. The food was cooked fresh and tasted amazing. So much of it that I took some home. We'll definitely go back.

We spotted this online looking for a new restaurant. Based on the stunning reviews, we had to visit. My word, it didn't disappoint. The food and staff were wonderful. The portions were large. We will be back many times in the future.

Not happy at all. Ordered a lamb souvlaki wrap to open it to less than a handful of chips and 3 small pieces of very tough lamb. And then a pork gyros where it’s bursting at the seams?! I will say this was my top place to order from but now it’s really put me off. From a wrap that would normally be very well packed to hardly nothing in it for the price I can’t comprehend. Just very disappointed in a place I thought was great. And sadly has put me off reordering in the future.

Step towards this restaurant and be transported instantly to a wonderful Greek experience. From the groups sat outside conversing to the warm family atmosphere inside. The service from Sofia and Elvis was excellent, food was lovely and reminiscent of dining in a family home in Greece. Thank you for a nice dining experience, right in the heart of Derby city, tucked away in St Peter's Churchyard... Will definitely be returning!

Order not fully match description. Baby potatoes should be with tzatziki, there wasn't. Red Bull should be 330ml was 250ml. Food on is own is good but is not first time when something is not mach description in this local.
