Athena Greek Taverna & Cafe in Shropshire

Delicious fresh cooked food with generous portions in a historical setting ( the old school). Very friendly service and as we were the last ones to leave we had the privilege of talking to the owners all about Greece. It was a really enjoyable evening and good value too! Would highly recommend.

Excellent food. Great ambience. Friendly staff. We would recommend the hot meze selection ; plentiful and delicious. Easily our favourite restaurant in Ludlow.

Went and had a family meal tonight as some of the family have just came back from Rhodes and she was missing it, I had the moussaka and it was really tasty. You could tell it was home made and served in lovely clay pots with a salad. The staff were friendly and the atmosphere was very authentic. I would really recommend Athena as a place to eat in Ludlow nothing is a problem and anything you’re not sure of we felt comfortable to ask. We will most definitely be back.

My daughter took us to Athena as we have just returned from Rhodes. The food was amazing, we had a selection of starters the Halloumi, Kalamari, Dolmadas, Mussells which was a lovely combination, we then followed that with Moussaka, fresh Briam, sea bass fillets, Lamb Soulvaki and home made chips all the food was amazing. The atmosphere was so authentic and having just come back from Greece the food I must admit was even better than the food we had in the Greek Tavernas. Would highly recommend as it’s one of the best places to eat in Ludlow.

Unfortunately did not enjoy my meal a couple of nights ago. Ordered the Gyros Souvlaki Shredded Pork. Expected shredded pork but it was cut up pieces of streaky bacon!. Very bland and not much taste. Also ordered the oregano chips which were also very bland. Unfortunately won’t be returning.

We had the most amazing dinner here today. Complete perfection at all times 😋😋😋😋 The best freshly prepared Greek meals, excellent personalised service, a charming Greek ambiance, and a wide selection of local or Greek wines and beers. Recommend 100% 5+++++ experience

Visiting Ludlow, three hungry travellers scratching our heads at the map, yes it's a 5 minute walk from the centre, yes in a magnificent cathedral of a building, once a school, now home to authentic Greek food Welcoming staff, delicious aromas of food. Everything prepared fresh to order, fresh is a delicious theme. We were so well fed we were fortunate to have time to meet the team. An excellent meal. Book your table and your choice of dishes at least a day in advance, those delicacies that take longer to prepare, for example Kleftico, seafood platter (if you want, the fish will be bought specifically on the day) Greek casseroles. Athena was a very unwelcoming atmosphere; the lady who runs it was very sarcastic and hostile when approaching us. I also overheard conversation with workers and her arguing with staff, which wasn’t very pleasant. The food overall was very average, we waited a hour to receive it and the chips were bland, definitely not worth the money as it’s quite overpriced. Overall, i wouldn’t recommend this restaurant as Ludlow has much better places to dine!

Absolutely outstanding fresh cooked food and attention to detail customer service, all complimented with a Greek theme. Recommend anyone to come here 100%.

Had to wait a long time before the food came, even when we rang through the previous day with our food choices. We booked for 6.30pm and did not get our food until 7.45 pm! We were very disappointed with the food, it was very average. The woman who we presumed was the owner, presented our food eventually and said in a sarcastic voice “are you happy now ladies!” It was appalling the way she spoke to us. We will not be going there again.
