Astons Restaurant in Northampton

Very poor and food cold. Would not recommend a visit here at all. The whole menu needs to be looked at and revised and the serving dishes need to be turned up to keep good warm

Delicious food and great service from our waiter Tom, he made sure we had everything we needed. Would highly recommend.

The food was very bland. The food was presented well but there was no flavour at all. We had snacks at the bar though which were nice (cheesy chorizo chips)

Food at Astons was pleasant, but didn't knock me off my feet. Wine list too (which suited the average food). Thought had gone into making the food look and seem high-end, but the quality of the base ingredients and execution doesn't quite make it beyond trying to be something more than it is, e.g. the mushrooms and cheese on toast starter could have been improved with specialist, fresh bread (sourdough) and mushrooms (wild). It was like cutting into leather. The apple-themed dessert (cheesecake crumble, red apple macron & cinnamon cream) was delicious. Astons seems to excel at deserts.

Good 3 course dinner as part of a Time Out spa stay and was made extra lovely by our waitress Susan who was very attentive, friendly and professional and couldn't have done more for us. Was able to box-up our dessert options to take back to our rooms after a lovely relaxing stay.

I came with my daughter for afternoon tea as a little treat before she starts university. I thought Whittlebury would be nice as I have been to the spa many times and always enjoyed my time there. The service was excellent, the staff member who was dealing with us was friendly and very helpful. The afternoon tea however was very disappointing. We are vegetarian and we got 4 finger sandwiches each, one cheese and pickle and one with maybe a hummus with tomato and cucumber. Both very unimaginative and not particularly tasty. Definitely could have done with more sandwiches. There were 4 scones, which were warm and very nice but only one tiny pot of jam and clotted cream. We did ask for more though and it was brought out. There was also a mini apple pie, a macaron, a blueberry iced cake and a chocolate mousse/jelly type thing. The macaron and pie where lovely and the blueberry cake was ok but the mousse/jelly thing was vile. We didn’t eat all the cakes so brought some home and even my husband who will literally eat anything wouldn’t eat the mousse! We also had a lovely loose leaf tea and a coffee. For £21.95 each we thought it was very expensive. I love Whittlebury hall and have been on lots of spa days and a couple of overnight stays there. But the afternoon tea was a real disappointment. If you are thinking of having afternoon tea I would go somewhere else.

Soup safest option. Smoked salmon starter child's portion. Everything piled up but hides tasteless meal. Food not hot enough. Fish bland and potatoes not hot enough and needed more cooking. Some fish sauce needed as very dry. Chicken looked good but also not hot enough. Portions may be gastro size but stingy is better description. Brulee saved the day. Other desserts disappointing. Distinct lack of taste and strange combinations that don't work. Otherwise very nice service! Eating outside the hotel in future

I decided to read reviews on our way to a spa weekend at whittlebury hall. There are some very disappointing reviews so was really dubious about our stay. Well I couldn’t have been more wrong. This weekend stay included a 3 course meal in Astons restaurant. All I can say is everything has been perfect the restaurant staff at Astons were polite and hardworking they treated us with respect and were very pleasant. I had terrine for starters medium rare roast sirloin with beautifully served vegetables. And the croustillant for dessert. A good bottle of red wine was £25 so not overly priced. I cannot fault any of the weekend and will be returning soon.

Food was inedible- Tasteless tagliatelle, some pork creation that was pressed into the shape of a turd and tasted like one. Give it a miss.

It's a machine for feeding hundreds of guests. Food mediocre. Tables crammed together, especially at breakfast. DIY toast station had very mouldy bread

The restaurant offers two or three-course delightful menu. It changes weekly. But, what we had was worth sharing. We paid a supplement for scallops, which were overcooked, but the black pudding accompanied it made the difference. Our beef main was delicious and so were our desserts.

The Brulee was orgasmic!!!! It was a great end to my lovely memorable stay at Whittlebury Hall Hotel.

The food quality was really poor as were the choices. Lots of flies, wasps so better control needed to keep them away from the food. The food for a vegetarian was extremely bland, and portions extremely small. Food was that bad I had to eat my pot noodle when I got back to the room, I initially brought it with me as the lunch is always poor, but as I had bought cake and tea I didn't eat it at lunch.

Stayed overnight at the hotel and food at Ashtons was average at best. I had the butternut soup which tasted like a cheap soup out of the can! My vegetable curry well no curry or spices were even in what I would have called a rather dry chick pea and tomato stew. Was not impressed neither was my husband happy with his choices. The room was dark, dingy and lacked any atmosphere whatsoever. Felt like a hostel rather than a restaurant! Will not be returning.

We ate as a couple, the meal included in our spa package.The restaurant is essentially a large square conference room in the building. It has very little ambience and come across more like a “all included buffet restaurant” apart from the fact that in the evening it is table service (same room used as buffet breakfast in the mornings). The lighting is monotone and it was unbearably hot. We noticed several people trying to fan themselves cooler and at breakfast many commenting on how it was cooler that the previous evening.The menu looks inviting. My stater, a chicken liver parfait was served in a small glass jar and was lovely but why oh why only one single piece of Melba toast for all that parfait? My wife had theScallops for an additional charge and she said they were lovely if a little small for the price. My wife’s Salmom main was also lovely but again the portion of salmon was small. My duck was cooked perfectly pink but I don’t get how they achieved that with a flaccid white duck skin instead of a lovely crispy on from pan frying it. The potato and vegetables with it were very average.We passed on dessert as it was just too hot in there, despite it being included in our package. We chose to have a coffee outside at our cost instead.Despite having settled for the wine and extras at the desk on our way out having said to our waitress that is what we would do, she came to find us outside to ask us to pay again. After we explained she said she would go and check and we never saw her again. All in all it could be so much better. If it wants to pretend to be a high class restaurant then it needs to address the ambience, the finer details of the food (it’s a good base) and the service.

had lovely 3 course meal with family at the weekend. all very fresh and flavoursome. As stated these meals are not about large portions at all, bread rolls arrived and were devoured. drinks are not cheap but thats to be expected in this establishment. staff very professional & efficient. would return whe in the area

Had a great meal with excellent service. Enjoyed Tomato soup, Vegan Curry and vegan chocolate moose. My wife had excellent pate, salmon and cheesecake. Three course meal for £26 per person, good value in an hotel of this standard.

Really enjoyable 3 course meal at Astons. The dessert was amazing. All presented well and very tasty.

A really average dinner in a very average restaurant with under average service. Fine dining sized portions of food but under seasoned and dropped off by very busy waiting staff. I guess if you want a quick meal its not terrible but I would seriously recommend the other, far better restaurant - Murray's. No comparison.

Top notch food & service. Cannot fault anything about our evening. Would highly recommend the fillet steak.

Staff busy, sometimes slow to respond to requests. Popular dishes run out early. Food selection acceptable, with choices for Vegetarians and vegans.

Nearly two hours to get through our three course meal, mainly as staff were slow or oblivious to what was going.

Very comfortable surroundings and although there many diners the noise levels did allow for conversation. Good choice of menu, served quickly and efficiently. I particularly liked the Eton Mess!

Excellent 3 course meal Beef was as good as you can eat. Service was Ok until 45mins wait for dessert menu after plates for main had taken away. But service did not affect my judgement of the exceptional food

Staying at Whittlebury Hall, we had both our evening meal and breakfast at Astons.

Got this meal as part of a gift experience for 2. The experience covers a starter, main and dessert each for most things on the menu, however more expensive items were an extra charge e.g. steak, scallops, etc.

Had a great 3 course meal served with a smile, it was hot and very well cooked, staff were very busy but plenty of them to cope with a very busy restaurant.

Excellent menu choice, fantastic food and brilliant staff; nothing more really to be said about it. My husband and I ate here while staying at Whittlebury Hall; the food was cooked perfectly and out waitress (Olga I think) was brilliant- polite, friendly, attentive and professional. Can't wait to come back.

Even if you just have the puddings its worth it, they were delicious. Nice lounge very grand and the service is very good. Thank you

3 course dinner included in the price of the overnight stay. Excellent service. Good choice of wine. By applying for and using your Me Time card you get great discount on all drinks and additional snacks you might buy!

Paid £25 pp for 3 course menu, lots of choice service was slowish due to amount of people in restaurant but gave us time to relax between courses. We felt the price paid was very reasonable for the menu we had and the food was presented well.

Ate here on a recent spa visit and was a little disappointed. Although the food quality was good, for the price paid I was expecting better portions and wasn't to my wife's taste at all - we ended up going straight to the bar for additional snacks as we left hungry (after 3 courses!)

El restaurante astons habíamos reservado una mesa con su llegada a Hall whittlebury por cabeza (más barato que pagar a la hora de antemano que en la noche en el restaurante). Las dos tenían la opción de cena de 3 platos y no me puedo...

Mi marido y yo tuvimos una cena de 3 platos. La comida era fantástica. La presentación y el sabor era insuperable. El servicio era de primera calidad.

Having had a 2-night package at Whittlebury Hall, one of our meals was in Astons restaurant. This was not the fine dining restaurant (that was called Murrays and you could pay an extra supplement on your stay to eat there), but it had a good menu included in the package and the food was well cooked and tasty. We both started with fishcakes, which were spicy but not too hot. I had confit shoulder of lamb with herb mashed potato and my husband has pork, which was like pulled pork - both dishes were very tender, well cooked and tasty. There was a good selection of desserts and a good wine list and other drinks available. Our waiter, Rocky, was very friendly, but not intrusive. His service was excellent and he made our evening seem very special. We enjoyed our meal in Astons and the evening was very good.

Excellent decor, great standard of food, we ate here for dinner and buffet breakfast. Fine dining but not tiny portions. I had antipasti followed by salmon and a nice dessert. The meals were part of an overnight spa break so included in the great value price.

We stayed at Whittlebury hall and had a three course and breakfast included. The dinner was nice, starters were slightly disappointing with a thin soup and a basic meat platter. However main course was very enjoyable, desert was also a little disappointing with mass produced products lacking taste. The breakfast was as you would expect in a hotel.

We came as part of a large group for a celebration. Service was great. Staff were patient and attentive. The food not only looked fabulous when it arrived but tasted wonderful. We enjoyed duck, beef and fish dishes. I chose the vegetarian option which was presented beautifully and very filling. I'd recommend saving room for pudding as the desserts were devine.

We ate at Astons for dinner and breakfast during a recent overnight stay. Dinner was pleasant and nicely presented. The staff were attentive and friendly. We had 1 alcoholic drink each which cost just under £10 so not cheap but I guess thats what you expect at a hotel. As the restaurant was busy, we were seated in the adjoining function room, so not intimate at all. Breakfast was a busy affair. Some of the tables are incredibly close together, literally centimetres apart so you feel like you are encroaching on the diners at the next table. Again the food was good and plentiful, lots of choice and constantly replenished. The 4* rating is given for the food quality NOT the lay out of the tables.

Ate here with my fiance and the food was amazing!! Lovely sweet potato and chili soup to start followed by beef brisket which melted in the mouth. Fiance had the cod loin which she said was delicious. Desserts were also superb and portions sizes were just right. Waiter was very knowledgeable on all foods on the menu and very attentive. Will definitely be back soon for another great night out.

Surprised my brother during his stay with his girlfriend on his birthday there were five of us in total.It was great how people not staying in the hotel can book and attend dinner.The meal was lovely scallops for starter and lamb terrine, the mains beef cooked to order perfect and the lamb leg lovely fell off the bone. We enjoyed the great service also staff attentive and efficient even small things such as warm plates and warm bread makes such a difference.Desserts were also really good sticky toffee pudding and a choxolate peanut butter dish cant remember the name now but an overall pleasant meal.Would recommend and well worth the price.

We came here for a birthday meal and we were very impressed. The food was very good. I had soup to start (that was ok). I had beef for main that was delicious and then cheesecake for dessert. Good. We found our waiter Ryan to be efficient yet friendly and confident. We were very impressed with our waiter. Yes we would return

close proximity to us , love the upgraded room and buffet style breakfast,the pool and relaxation areas are quiet and well fitted out .

There was plenty of choice and the food was nicely presented and absolutely delicious.The service from the waiter was just what we wanted.

Had lunch and breakfast here and it was good but very busy.Enough choice but we were on the last sitting at lunch and the food was sparce.

Part of our package was a 3 course meal. I selected the vegetarian option through choice but there were also meat and fish options if you wanted them. Soup to start which was yummy butternut, and my dessert was a peanut butter and chocolate chip cheesecake - bliss!

It does have a canteen-like quality, but the food and service was excellent. Thoroughly enjoyed all three meals we had there as part of our package.

We had the three course dinner here and if the room alone wouldn't quell your appetite, the food would. It was nothing more than fancier fare found at a Wetherspoon's, presented nicer on the plate. The dessert WAS delicious, granted, but the whole thing left me feeling flat, hungry and annoyed I wasted money.

It's fine if you are just there for 3 days because the dishes served are fairly predictable every day.

How on earth does this place not have a Michelin star??! The food and service were superb and more like you would expect from a fine dining restaurant in Mayfair rather than a hotel restaurant. All courses were stunning to look at and to eat and were explained perfectly by the well informed waitresses. Beautiful dining room, beautiful food, excellent service and very reasonably priced wine. A major tip of the hat to all involved.

The food was excellent we could not fault it in any way, we wish it was nearer to us so we could use it more often.

The staff were very smart and professional. The restaurant is large so tables are well spaced. the environment is relaxed with dimmed lighting. The food is amazing all three courses we had were excellent. Nothing to dislike.

Great food, plenty of choice on the menu. Good atmosphere and food comes quickly. Good wine menu with a good bottle of chateaunerf du pape for less than £50.
