30+ of us booked in here for our Christmas Lunch. We had a wonderful meal, starters like Country Paté, prawns in Tempura Batter, Homemade soup etc. Mains were traditional turkey but also Pork, Salmon en Crute and more. They coped with a noisy crowd and all our meals were perfection. The shop part of this venue was stuffed with lovely Christmas gifts, gardening bits and unusual kitchen and cooking items. All in all, it's a bit of an Aladins cave!

Visited as a party of four friends/family for lunch. We ate outside as had my dog with us. Service was poor and unprofessional. Staff totally disinterested and unhelpful. Disliked paying for food and drinks at table at time of ordering. Bizarre system of bringing out each person's drink/food individually (waitress made four trips to table with one drink on a tray at a time???). Food was pleasant enough but extremely small portions and vastly overpriced for what was served.

A very disappointing meal last week with friends. The escalope of chicken with panko crumbs (supposedly) was very thin and dry on a bed of Caesar salad which didn't remotely taste like a Caesar salad. Lukewarm frozen chips and cold plates. Maybe I just chose the wrong dish!!!

Super room, large and roomy and very pleasant .The food today let it down sadly .3 of us ladies all had tartiflette , which was used with previously cooked jacket potatoes barely any leak and no mushrooms ( which were advertised ) Left most . Very disappointed.

Wont be returning, greeted by clueless teenager, waited 20mins for 4 cold drinks. Then ordered 2 ploughmans, they arrived and I nearly asked where the rest was. Two small pieces of ham, a piece of chedder and a slither of brie, half a baguette, a thimble of some sort of pickled chopped onion, a thimble of the most revolting chutney I've ever tasted and a small salad absolutely dripping in oil. For £12 i feel I've been robbed. Toasted teacake that we ordered had seen better days. Not once were we asked if everything was ok. Very poor.

A group of us booked for a cream tea £17.99 pp, the pots of tea and a few coffees arrived then some crockery then milk. We waited a while for the finger sandwiches, scone and small cakes but by then the second cups of tea were luke warm and a bit stewed, so we ordered more pots of fresh tea only to find that we were charged for the second pots of tea !. Other venues provide unlimited tea and coffee with a cream tea. Will not do this again.

Chose to sit outside Tea and coffee arrived, but with no sugar, has to go indoors to speak to waitress Ordered Veg Soup, bread and butter - no bread, once again visit indoors to speak to waitress. Vege Soup was blended and more like Tomato Soup, vegetables were nowhere to be seen Bread finally arrived shaped like a wedge. 3/4 inch one side tapering to a point. Presumably cut by the Waitress, certainly not by a Chef My wife has jacket pototo which looked as though it had been cooked once and then pre-heated Certainly wont be visiting again

Nice pub but slow service and typical of a place run by friends and family who seemed to overrun the bar area.

I visited recently on a Wednesday lunchtime to look at the pub where Wall of Death showman George 'Tornado' Smith lived. He had a famous location at the Kursaal, Southend, the largest Fairground in southern England when it opened in 1901. In the early '30's this was the first Wall of Death in the British Isles. 'Tornado' was also famous for his pet lioness which rode on the handlebars of his American Scout motorcycle until it became too large so a sidecar was added!! Locals in Boxford were not surprised to se him walking his pet in the village but I'm sur e it caused consternation along Southend seafront! There are quite a few photos in the delightful pub and what looks like an early advertising sign for the Wall of Death. The pub serves Mauldon cask beer from the excellent brewery in Sudbury. A large coffee machine provides excellent coffee to accompany the lovely cakes on display. Apparently arrangements are being made for cooked food in the evenings to augment the current panini menu. As we were only on a fleeting visit I cannot provide ratings for food etc.and at the time is was quite quiet.
