ASK Italian - Billericay in Basildon

Went on a Monday night, enough staff to cover the quiet evening but the service was very slow. Water took 30 mins to come after asking 3 times. One Waitrose was extremely moody and sullen and made us feel like a nuisance for any request. I would question why she is in the service industry. Ask is not a cheap affordable family option like it use to be and is certainly overpriced for what you get, particularly in service. Shame, this was for my sons 13th birthday and we are disappointed with the experience provided for us.

Restaurant was cold had to sit with jacket on, no atmosphere. Staff were rude with the kids when they asked for a drink. Took 90 minutes to get a pizza. Gluten free menu doesn’t have much choice. Had olives to start and they were just plain and so bland. Pizza was ok but quite oily. Definitely not worth the price. Wouldn’t return.

My uncle brought me, and my cousin out for his daughters birthday got refused from the restaurant for basically been a traveller, they racistly profiled us before hand I checked if there was any available reservations when I went to the front desk to book a table they said “no sorry we’re fully booked” there was 1 table in the entire restaurant that was being occupied every other table was empty 0/10 racist restaurant

Very good experience, friendly welcome, nice atmosphere, food was great, staff were very attentive and helpful, all in all had a very pleasant Sunday afternoon, thank you.

Looked on the website Lots! Of availability for seating I went in the restaurant and because I had a Irish accent they were “fully booked” and there was maximum 5 people in the restaurant the racism this day and age is disturbing 0/10 wouldn’t recommend

Service was incredibly slow, despite the restaurant not being very busy, and the asparagus based dish was very small and lacked any asparagus. Olive bowl was dirty. There doesn’t appear to be an experienced manager, so everything is shoddy. This is the third time in recent months that we have had very poor service, and I think we shall not be going back until the place has a good shake-up.

You have to go for lunch and try to drink cocktails. Especially such weather. The atmosphere inside was really relaxed and little things like the waiter getting the door for everyone left a really good impression.

We did a 'Ladies that Lunch' for our friends birthday last month and had a very enjoyable afternoon in the garden of ASK Italian in Billericay Essex. It was so clam in the garden we forgot we were in the middle of a busy high street. The service was good as was the food and the company even better. It was the first time I had been to this restaurant and it won't be the last.

I don't know Billericay very well as I was visiting a friend of mine. We decided to have a lunch date and she recommended here. I haven't had the most positive experiences in other ask Italians so I was doubtful. However, from the moment I sat down I had a lovely time. The outside area was open so we decided to sit out there- it was a lovely intimate space that helped liven the atmosphere! We both ordered drinks and the waitress was very patient as we were taking a while with deciding. When the food came it was delicious. My only quibble for me would be that it was a smaller portion of pasta then I would like but for a bit of lunch it does the trick. Throughout the meal we were getting progressively hotter and the waitress kindly suggested we could move to the tables opposite in the shade, from start to finish she was friendly, accomodating and even tried to get to know us and engage in a friendly conversation. It's the small things that count when it comes to a chain restaurant and this lady really represented the brand wonderfully. I didn't catch her name but she said her boyfriend's parents went to Bath recently.

Firstly the food here is nothing special but it is good Italian food, you're assured of a good meal in my opinion. The lasagne was particularly a favourite of my brothers. My pizza was fine. It's good standard food. What sets this restaurant apart particularly from it's Southend counterpart, is the service!

We went there early evening on a Sunday and it wasn’t very busy.

A table was booked for three people on a saturday for lunch. We were a little early but the table was ready, waiting and prepared. A complimentary drink was served that was - as I was told - Limoncello but it was nothing like the after-dinner liqueur I am more familiar with being quite sharp and bitter. Despite that the staff performed their tasks quietly and efficiently and the food arrived without delay, well cooked and tasty. I would have liked a greater choice of wines but the Sicilian Nero D'Avola served as a satisfactory complement to the food.

Popped in for lunch during the Billericay Xmas Market. Half an houi after eating here I started being violently sick. I was sick for four days - I have never been so ill. My son who's 14 also started being sick and my husband was also ill. I contacted basildon council and they are going to look into this.

We made a very last minute decision to take our granddaughters out to dinner. Very pleasant experience. The staff we very helpful and cheerful. Orders we quickly taken. Food arrived very speedily. We shared 2 starters between the four of us. Bruschetta and calamari very good. Two of us had pasta - both very good. The others has sea bass and a pizza. Both much appreciated. The desserts and coffee were all very acceptable. All in all a rating of Very Good entirely justified

Visited for lunch on Sunday. There was two set Christmas menus or the main menu available. We were seated quickly and our waitress was very efficient and service was speedy. Food was very good, we had the spicy Tuscan bean soup and bruschetta followed by the penne chicken arrabirta. Would return.

The food at Ask is great for a local high street Italian restaurant. The food is good and lots of options for vegan diners. Service is always good and with a smile.

I have just left this restaurant having waited for an hour for my starter, I checked that it wasn't being prepared but not a dough ball in sight! The staff have a wonderful way for ignoring you and looking past you. The place was fairly full at 7pm tonight, and we were shown to our table fairly promptly, however took time to take our orders then came the wait! At 8pm just gone we gave up and came home!

The food is great and myself and my mother in law eat here often. Occasionally service can be a little distracted, however this does not distract from the good food.

For circa 20 years I have been a regular visitor to ASK restaurants. including the Billericay restaurant ( I have some personal history with the founders).

First visit to Billericay ASK - we both ordered a variety of dishes, all delicious and nicely cooked. Pleasant decor and very friendly staff - one girl in particular has just become a waitress rather than work in the kitchen- very bubbly and chatty, a nice addition to our evening. Looking forward to returning soon.

It is many years since I had been to this restaurant, but have recently been twice (we came again as it was so nice the first time). We had simple salads for a quick lunch with a nice glass of trebbiano, and you really couldn't fault it. The room at the back is again very nice (like a large conservatory, and therefore bright and airy) and the staff are friendly. Ask is one of the many chain Italians (in Billericay alone!) and when you have kids you often end up in one or other of them. Well this one is pretty good.

TL:DR version: they don't listen to dietary or allergen requirements and they make inappropriate assumptions about who orders what.

My partner and I together with my father-in -law have visited this restaurant on a number of occasions. He is a picky eater and likes very strong coffee and will complain if he thinks something is wrong. The food standard is excellent and he always gets extra shots in his coffee. The staff are welcoming and attentive without being overly so. We have to travel about 15 miles to get to this restaurant but we've never been disappointed with the food or the staff. They have a comprehensive gluten free menu and have plenty of dishes other than pizza. Well worth a visit.

Pregunta italiano fue recomendado por la familia tenemos allí para una comida italiana. La comida para ser honesto era bastante agradable, tuvimos un poco de pasta, pizza y todos resultó bien. Lo único que me decepcionó fue el servicio que me pareció bastante lento dado que no estaba demasiado ocupado así en una semana. Teníamos una fuente no vegetales, que tiene bastante para empezar una buena comilona. We had a lovely lunch bank holiday Monday lovely open back allowing a nice cool breeze run through the restaurant, Staff great fun and informative, I had prawns on a sauce on toasted cabbatta very nice succulent followed by lovely pasta dish pork and beef mince in a rich tomato sauce really tasty ,the four of us all really enjoyed our meal and the feel of the restaurant already planning next visit.
