ASK Italian in Southend-on-Sea

I had an atrocious experience in the restaurant. Actually, I thought the food is ok. But service was really terrible.Because at that time I suddenly feel quite unwell as in my period.I fainted and lying on the ground at second floor and my face turned pale and I was sweating profusely. I can’t even talk and get up. But the women manager asked me to get up twice unconcerned and unsympathetic without any help and said it would affect their other customers. I wish I could , but I couldn’t. I whisper I need pain killers.One of the male staff would like to help me to buy it and the manager would not let him to do that. It was awful in such a vulnerable state and not receive the support I needed, but the male staff was helpful and I feel grateful even now.Anyway, It’s so frustrating when people don’t show basic empathy especially when I in a tough spot.

Food was mediocre, bland and burnt on top. Garlic bread had no taste and service was below par.

Chips were like oven chips. Pretty sure mcaines and the pizza was terrible - had better frozen pizzas. Shockingly bad. I imagine if an Italian man was to eat at this restaurant, he would die from laughter

Had a fantastic evening for my best friend’s birthday. The assistant manager was very welcoming and accommodating. Service with a smile and friendly conversation. Food was delicious and the cocktails were 10/10. Highly recommend x

Sophia was friendly and welcoming and the food was delicious. Very big portions but had to go for the lemon dessert, which did not disappoint.

The meal and people were amazing as always. The only issue I had is that when you decide to tip it doesn’t give the option to specify how much you want to tip. When press add tip it adds 10%. I personally don’t think that very fair. I have also work in the restaurant Industry and you should be able to choose how much you tip.

Lovely belated Mothers Day Meal with my mum and daughter. Food is always exceptional (one of my favourites places) It's been a while since eating in, lovely staff and facilities.

Very good. Food freshly cooked to order. Nice clean place with friendly staff. The atmosphere is good here.

From the word go this was a Pleasant experience. Friendly welcome, good seat and time to look over the menu before asked what we wanted to order. The food came out hot and the waitress was attentive, always checking we were ok. Overall a great experience we will be back.

Great friendly staff, all of whom make you feel at home whenever you arrive, be it late or early they treat each customer as if they were the first of the day.

One bolognese, had nearly no sauce, the potions wher very small which actually was a good thing if we had not had to pay for it, not good at all, seemed Sunday evening want to get home meal!!!

Special shoutout to ‘Sophia’ for her great customer service skills & providing the best cheese grating for my cheese loving daughter! Food is always devine and the service quick! It’s becoming our go to on a chilled weekend. Love it. Will absolutely be back again.

The service was amazing (Lavinia served and she went above and beyond, so professional, helpful, really kind - thanks!) but the food was shockingly bad. Like, there was NO SAUCE on both carbonara - on both pastas delivered, it was just heaps of almost dry, but oily pasta... IMAGINE - CARBONARA, BUT WITH NO SAUCE, on both orders?! 🤣😅😭 It was just like dry pasta with hard cheese on top... Like, carbonaras are supposed to be so creamy, white sauce?! This was NOT that - on both carbonaras, it was just plain pasta with an clear, oily substance over ;( It was TASTELESS (Apart from the bits on top, but it's like missing the MAIN thing) Shocking, that I ordered from an Italian restaurant, then had to order a carbonara sauce to heat up and chuck over it, because there was no sauce on both dishes I was sent?! It was so bland, tasteless, thank god I live near a Co Op shop 😅 They could've served 1 fourth of the amount of pasta they did, but actually added sauce, and I would've been satisfied - if I order carbonara, why would I be happy with a huge bowl of basically dry pasta with no cream, no taste, so bland, honestly so confused 🤣... It's the sauce that I wanted, a kind of home made feel to it "the perfect carbonara", I wanted something better than from Co Op. Anyone can cook pasta - so I basically just spent £20 on someone to boil two bowls of pasta. And ended up having to buy sauce from Co Op? Oh my dayzzzzzz Lavinia was a REALLY KIND server, really professional and helpful - so it's a shame the food was a literal disgrace. Worst carbonaras I've ever had, and I ordered 2 different ones.

Small portion for the cost. the pasta very dry and the meat tough (Beef Brisket Pappardelle). An awful night for food to be delivered, so I can forgive it being lukewarm but not dry and tough.

We regularly come to this restaurant. Maria is an amazing waitress who knows what we want better than we do! We always feel looked after and enjoy a lovely meal.

Always my go to spot on this stretch of road filled with competition, absolutely lovely dining experience each time! Highly recommend the Cheese Founde, it's to die for! I love their calazones as well

Delicious. Light Courgetti Fritti, still hot and crispy on delivery, and outstanding, spicy Sausage & 'Nduja Tagliatelle. A little pricey, but perfect for a treat.

Came in this afternoon for a takeaway pasta. The man that served me was very polite. Restaurant was very clean and well presented. Would definitely return.

Good food, arrived hot enough to eat, good service and good ambience

Very clean and welcoming. Very good selection on the menu and reasonable prices. Staff were very friendly, although service was "leisurely" rather than brisk. Not an issue really, arrived at 7pm and 2 courses were finished by 8.15. I only saw 5 people waiting and in the kitchen and the place was only 1/4 full. On busy days it may be a bit slower. The staff weren't sitting around doing nothing though. Food was very nice and couldn't be faulted. Card only.

If you’re looking for a fantastic place to eat in Southend on Sea, you can’t miss “Ask Italian”! I recently had dinner there and I have to say, the experience was superb. The customer service was exceptional. Kinga, Jack, Charlie, and Olivia were incredibly kind and helpful. definitely recommended!

We love our local Ask Italian! The food is always so lovely as are the team however Jacob is the absolute best! We popped in after a long weekend away and his service was just the best! Whenever we pop in he’s always brilliant as is the food, would highly recommend!

Food was lovely as always, however. Desserts not delivered, which just eat have refunded, and ordered carbonara and seafood linguine and received 2x carbonara instead so delivery is a bit hit and miss

I went to ask Italian southend kinga was the best host, we had a long day and she made us and our children fell very welcome and the food was delicious.

Pizza was really tasty, smooth, soft etc. I donno much about authentic italian pizza. So, for me this was really tasty. Very nice. Place has a good ambience too. Their green yellow colour combo, arrangements, box designs everything is nice. The problem i had was i got a tiny piece of meat in a veg pizza. I felt sad as i am a vegetarian. Its difficult for strict vegetarians to process in their mind the fact that they even touched a piece of meat or chewed a piece of meat. I hope it wasn't purposeful in any way.

Kinga & Lavinia served us and were fabulous; we had a very early dinner and basically had the place to ourselves. Thoroughly recommended. Food excellent. Have the ‘special’ carbonara (can’t remember what it’s called!)- it’s lush!

Food was not ediable request refund

As a diabetic I need to know how many grams of carbs are in each dish so I can dose insulin accordingly. This was not listed on the menu but Jacob and the rest of the team found a list with every dish broken down to carbs, protein etc. Above and beyond service so that I could enjoy my dinner and take the appropriate dose. Highly recommended A+++++

Our server Andreia was super friendly and helpful at all times, she recommended the foccacia bread and New Zealand wine which we loved, we sat outside and enjoyed the gorgeous sunshine.

Great restaurant, food was amazing.. We went 16th May and the waiter was so nice and friendly.. Would 100% recommend this restaurant.

This evening with popped in for a pre cinema meal. Given Ask are a chain there wasn’t high expectations. The service was promt and the server polite and helpful. The food however was absolutely shocking,, whilst the expectations were not high we expected food that was remotely edible. I ordered lasagne , which was served looking anaemic, little to no meat, tasteless white sauce and pasta that can only be described as like consuming wet paper. I was shocked that this is the standard that was served. A smart price £1 microwave meal would have delivered a better meal. How the company can suggest that they are a modern authentic Italian leaves me speechless £55 Horrendous food.

This is my go to place for lunch. Great food (fabulous sea bass!!) and staff that treat you with old fashioned care & courtesy. Nothing is too much trouble. I can’t recommend this branch of ASK enough.

I went there with my family and the table where I was sitting was smelling so bad cuz of the wipe they used because they never washed. I went straight way to change table and they start chatting like I was wrong. Very disappointed I never go there again I respect my food and my hygiene

We went bank holiday Monday: 01/04/24. We arrived at around 7pm. Because I am a frequent diner, the team at the restaurant know me, as soon as we arrived they made me my favourite cocktail. The team are fantastic which included: KINGA, MARIA AND LAVINIA. Highly recommend this branch in Southend on Sea Essex.

Great afternoon , relaxing atmosphere

Allover it was a nice dinner, the food was delicious however the staff were miserable and demanding and huffed when we weren’t ready to order. The food itself wasnt cold but it wasnt exactly hot, on top of that at the end they took it upon themselves to add an OPTIONAL tip to themselves of £10 which we never agreed to. I asked what the extra fee was and they said nothing. The meal was nice, the atmosphere was nice however their staff were moody and made me and my table uncomfortable multiple times. We felt too uncomfortable to ask for the tip to be taken off as they had already made us feel unwelcome throughout the night. I’d come for the food but not the service. The toilets were nice and clean and the location itself was enjoyable but I wouldn’t expect the staff to be so nasty. If we had actually received a good and comfortable service, I would have felt okay to tip but we did not.

We went as a party of 10 with 4 younger members and were served by Kinga Jacob and Maria. They were friendly helpful and patient! The food and service were very good.

We have been eating in this restaurant for 18 years. Great menu, nice atmosphere, consistently good every time we go there, and staffed by the most wonderful people who work really hard to make you feel welcome and enjoy your meal. This evening Lavinia, Kinga, and Andreia looked after us - thank you very much :-)
