Amazing south Indian and Sri Lankan food. Cheap and super tasty. I really wish they delivered.

Truly authentic South Indian food! The best masala dosa in Northampton you will ever eat! Everything is freshly made for you, and the serving sizes are good! The Idly is brilliant, perfectly steamy, and soft . The coconut chutney is also home-made and is perfect with the Idly. The vadda are good too but I think the star is the masala dosa! Highly recommend to eat here! You will.not be disappointed!

Love eating here. The food is great. Not that expensive too. My personal fave is fried rice and paratha with curry add on.

Ordered starters. Uncooked and super cold....Took a chance on the Fried fish...horribly over fried...chewy and tasteless..seemed from many days ago ..The chutney had no taste. Super slow service...broken furniture...Sit at your own risk as might fall down....Waste of time. A Pizza would prob have bene a betterv choice

Very dirty tables unhealthy atmosphere the women give me cold food plus she was scratching her hair Gosh 🤮 I felt so bad the service is too slow they will warm in microwave some of the food I googled it and they have given one star ⭐ That's why this place have to be closed before peaple get sick I have email the local council to visit this place again

Kottu is very delicious like Sri Lankan Kottu. When I feel I miss my country food, I come to this restaurant from Wellingborough. Love the service too. Friendly owner & his wife too

He asked me to work for free for 5 hours and next day i worked and he treated me like a slave he just thought the money on my face .i left that job because its nit hygienic he just lick his hand and put in every dish please dont try here

29/08/23. I am a lover of Srilankan and South Indian food. I drove from Milton Keynes to visit this restaurant. I ordered quite a few dishes for takeaway. Spent approx £50. Overall the food was good. Lovely Parota, shame they didn't have any red chutney to go with my Vada. The chicken kottu Roti was very spicy just how I like it. Same with the chicken biriyani. Only criticism I have is that I asked for no egg in my biriyani and sadly I got an egg. That was disappointing. I'm not against egg, but just don't think it goes well in a biriyani. Also I feel they should give some kind of gravy for the biriyani and kottu Roti. I would visit again but parking is an issue. Mutton rolls also good but they seem smaller than some I have had before. Vada needs to be fried a little more crispy. Chicken Vindaloo and Chicken Chettinad have a very thin gravy, would be better if it was a bit thicker. Didn't like my Devilled Chicken. Overall I would say 7 out of 10.

With the price, it's reasonable food. Was okay taste wise; mutton rolls were good. lamb curry was reasonable as well.

Food is really authentic south indian food. Tried medhu wada which was really good. Price wise is also very good. Only problem is, I would not advise dine in better to takeaway.

The best dosa. My favourite food was vegetable biryani before coming to Asian Express. It was here I learned about the joys of South Indian cuisine. I have tried dosa everywhere I could since visiting Asian Express and so far nowhere has comes close to this. The dosa itself is light and crispy, the succulent filling is expertly seasoned and the sides (sambar and chutney) are ideal companions as well as delicious in their own right. If you enjoy Indian food you are going to love this place. I no longer live in Northampton and it is the place I miss the most. Thank you to the couple who run Asian Express, they're super nice and friendly. Please don't stop making dosa, you are a gift to the world.

Been to this takeaway since last year so what a shock when they terminated the line while trying to place orders claiming they too busy!! And extremely rude when asked to explain their food!!! They seem to have forgotten that without customer they do not exist. Couldn't believe how they treat valuable customers. There are too many takeaways to choose from without having these kind of attitude.

Best south Indian food in Northampton

Ordered Chicken fried rice and found a steel wool wire from it. When asked, they immediately removed the wire and went inside before I could react. After having a long dispute, they told me that they too had an incident last week when they went for dinner and it's not a big deal. Don't know what to say to these people. Please avoid. Poor Hygiene.

i must say it is the best in the whole town. the couple who own it work extremely hard and ensure there ingredients are fresh all the time. the mutton rolls are absolutely amazing. if they delivered they would make a killing.

We came for the Dosa & that was exactly what we had. The food was very delicious & all freshly prepared. We ordered the Dhal Vadai & the Donut looking Vadai as starter, that was also very nice. My son wanted the Lamb Curry with his Dosa & we thoroughly enjoyed it. We had Indian Tea to wash it down. This little gem of a place is not what I would call restaurant. It's a little run down & the chef told the customers to keep the door open as it's hot in the kitchen. The problem is, it was cold for the customers. It has only 3 tables that sits 4 each. Not a poshie but definitely good, honest freshly cooked food! I would without a doubt reccomend this place for anyone looking for decent South Indian food.

One of the very few authentic South Indian restaurants. Have tried the Dosas and kotthu Rotti and Idiayappam. They were good. Order via phone ahead to avoid a long wait.

This place made our whole evening off. First of all there was no body at front to take orders. And on calling 2-3 times, they took our order of Masala dosa and Chilli Chicken. Food and service was horrible. In dosa there was nothing only a little bit potato in the center. And in chilli chicken there was hardly any chicken except vegetables. On confronting, lady said we have been here for the last 7 years, so we better know. Honestly speaking, this place is a waste of money and time. It ruined our whole evening.

The taste of South India and they do it so well so if you have had enough of korma and want to know what real Indian food looks like and most importantly tastes like you should check this place out.

There was hardly any staffs in there, been there thrice and was told waiting was an hour. Didnt get to eat. Probably would try takeaway next time around but we all know how dosa would be like if you do a takeaway 🤪

So happy that this place is open after the Covid lockdown. Very clean premises and wonderful homemade South Indian food. You must have the dosa which comes with dhall and two types of chutney. We buy an enormous amount of takeaway from here, you should too. Everything is good. Try the egg curry, seriously. Like my mum's :)

Amazing food and lovely people. We were so happy to see they're still trading after the Covid-19 lockdown. The dosa is brilliant but I also really recommend trying their curries - particular the egg curry and the aubergine curry.

Walked past this place many times thinking it was just another kebab place, but how wrong I was. This place is a hidden jewel! The staff are welcoming and friendly.The dosa and sambar were lovely, and the food flavourful. The menu items are rarely found in generic Indian takeaway/restaurants. The addition of street snacks will most definitely be on my purchase list!I look forward to trying this place again.

I can't believe I lived near this place for years and just assumed it was another fast food place. It specialises in dosas, curries and all that kind of amazing goodness. We've taken to ordering dosa to eat there, plus curries to take back to our home 40 miles away. It's that good!

Best place in Northampton for South Indian food, especially if you are vegetarian/vegan. Try the Manchurin gobi (vegan) or a dosa without Ghee if you want it for a vegan?! Best pilaw rice in town and all at good prices never had a bad meal in six years, love it.

Food was excellent, spoke to a couple of customers originally from India who were also in the restaurant and asked them whether the food was authentically Indian. They both verified that it indeed was and that they visited the restaurant far too often!Good enough for me! Not a posh place (not for a date. Maybe by date 15?) but if you want somewhere that you can eat good Indian food without getting fleeced then this is it. Don't look for a speed, style or presentation - this is how we eat in our homes! In fact all the things that people typically expect from restaurants are distinctly lacking - except for the wonderful, wonderful food. I ate:- two crispy mutton rolls- chicken curry- two parathas- a bowl of dhall- a traditional Sri Lankan dessert (it was pink and sweet. Probably made of semolina)- a cup of teaAnd the bill came to £15. Unbelievable. And I'm still basking in an after-food glow 2 hours later.Everything is cooked once you've ordered it - including the small fried snacks. And everything is delicious.

A little too crispy for us and thin on the batter BUT it is one of the better dosais we have tasted in England and only at £2.50. Biryani had an interesting twist as it was warmed? fried? again with more spices. Nice. Masala tea could be stronger and more spicy. Lovely service by owners.

We got a mixture of South Indian dishes and they were all pretty amazing. I got take out so that kind of diminished the experience so we’d be eating in the next time. The service was pretty great and the hosts are friendly people. Definitely recommended.

I love this place! Since working in Northampton the last few weeks I've got food from here numerous times. I had mutton curry and rice. The mutton curry was absolutely amazing! I also had koththu on quite a few occasions. Brilliant! My wife who is Sri Lankan says this is the best koththu she's ever had, even better than in Sri Lanka.

Great tiny environment to eat, best coffees in the town and amazing food dishes 😍🥰😍🥰 I love them. I really recommend them 😎😎🥰

Only place in Northampton where I found Tamil Nadu style food. Dosas and teas were really good. Highly recommended for South Indians. Ambience might not be the best in town but still worth the visit.

I Love the food.... authentic south Indian and so very delicious. If i decide on a takeaway then this is the only place i will go to. I've tried others but none compare to this place and the prices are also good. Everytime my family visit (we are Indian) we always get food from here. It never disappoints. If You like spicy try the mutton masala.... full of flavour!

Tasty food, however the waiting can be ridiculous sometimes! Recommend to order via phone before you go, they sometimes let you do that if it's not too busy.

This place is unique . Basic in appearance and decor. More of a cafe . But the dosa and other south indian classics are superb. Shall and rice . Idly. Vada . Good vegetarian cuurys .

If you walked past this restaurant you wouldn't give it a second glance, situated as it is in a row of cheap chicken, pizza and burger takeaways, but it's well worth seeking out. Asian Express is basically a takeaway with 3 or 4 tables if you feel like eating your food straight away. There were 4 of us, and we took one of the tables to eat our food, which was delicious! It is South Indian cuisine, with stuffed dosas (pancakes), South Indian curry dishes, noodles etc. There is plenty of choice for vegetarians (like the 4 of us), and the prices are very reasonable. We had papadums, dosas, curry, rice and rotti (like parathas), with canned soft drinks and tea, and the total bill was just a shade over £30. We will be eating here again soon! The "restaurant" is very basic, and you may prefer to use it as a takeaway, but the owner is very happy for you to eat your food on the premises.
