Beautiful restaurant with beautiful food

Lovely dim sum experience at Oriental Garden. Food came out fresh and tasted delicious. Service was excellent.

Didn't plan to visit this Chinese Restaurant but a friend and I were in the town for the first time to see a show and wanted some food before going to the theatre. We found this place via google maps. We hadn't booked but were able to be seated straight away, first impressions of the restaurant were clean and well presented. Service was good, food was timely and extremely tasty. This meal will go up there as one of my best Chinese meals I've had. The restaurant was averagely busy when we arrived (which was fairly early) but by the time we left it was almost full, usually a very good indicator of a good restaurant! Only negative was the mandatory 10% service charge, please just add 10% to the prices so it's clear selling!! I'd visit again if in the area.

Great place to eat Chinese food. It’s long been a place where Chinese people go to eat, so it isn’t aimed at English tastes like some restaurants do. Quality of the food is very good. I’ve been for dim-sum and their selection is good. My go to restaurant in the area is Taipan in Milton Keynes and this place is on a par. Some dim sum dishes I prefer at Taipan and others I prefer here. However, for my most recent visit we opted for dishes from their main menu and this is where I was most impressed. Everything we had was excellent. The meat dishes were great and I highly recommend their char siu, crispy belly pork (then portion here is much bigger than at Taipan and it’s less salty too), and their roast duck is also a winner (I’d go so far as to say it’s not far off the standard of Four Seasons and Goldmine in London’s Bayswater area, both renowned globally for their roast duck). We had a variety of vegetables and noodles, all were good. It’s a child friendly place and there’s a multi storey car park opposite, so parking is plentiful. Definitely recommended.

Absolutely horrible. The food made me sick . The service was horrendously slow and you HAVE to tip and pay for water. I do not recommend to anyone . DO NOT GO HERE

These people took advantage of my son and his girlfriend. They charged them £5 for tap water! They had to wait 20 minutes between plates and the food was dry and horrible. They were also forced to pay a tip! Avoid these scammers

Chinese dim sum, delicious, with Hong Kong quality

I’ve been coming here for years and it’s never disappointed. If you want a typical Chinese menu, it’s the best you’ll get. They also have a fantastic dim sum menu and a traditional Chinese menu which you don’t normally see, this is my favourite. I particularly recommend their stews and soups, don’t be afraid to ask the staff, they are really friendly and will tell you about these wonderful dishes. The service is quick and the food is fresh and delicious. They’re passionate about their food and you can really see that.

My go-to Chinese restaurant every single time! I'm in love with dimsum and roasted duck dishes/noodle soup 🍜. This is definitely the best Chinese restaurant in Northampton. The price is affordable as well.

Highly recommended best Chinese restaurant in Northampton.

Been a couple of times in the past and didn't disappoint again. We ordered off the all you can eat menu. Had the mixed starter, everything was really yummy and came out piping hot. Then we had the duck pancakes - duck was nice and crispy. For mains we had special fried rice, squid in black bean, beef in oyster and lemon chicken. Again all freshly cooked and delicious. Left feeling full and satisfied for £25 each. Waiters pleasant and helpful. Will be going back!

Imagine going out for dinner and being told what the restaurant thought you should order. This is what happens here. A marketed “all you can eat” is actually an “I’ll tell you what you are eating”. “ We will pick for you”. It would be much better if they came over and said we recommend a party of 4 order 4 dishes between them from the menu. Over letting you choose items and then say .. nahh we will tell you what you’re having. The manager needs to learn customer service skills. The staff are unaware about alcohol and therefore a clear training area. Mandatory service charge , as many reviews say means they do not care if good service is given or not. The service feels unwelcoming and rushed. We will be sticking to New Sunrise for this reason and will not be back here again.

Not particularly happy to be honest. They told us price wasn’t increased for New Year’s Eve , it was . They also added a 10% ‘mandatory’ service charge for a service that wasn’t anything special. (Table of 13 btw with 5 under 10s). We were also wanting the leftovers not to go to waste so offered to only pay for what we had so could take the rest to a homeless shelter .. which they miraculously made out to be more than the all you can eat. Which we know is wrong. Overpriced canteen style. Won’t go back. As I can’t reply I will edit here - *Yes we knew the price when we sat down but you had already taken a £75 deposit and told the lead booker no different price for NYE on the telephone. Could hardly not stay. We also worked out the price ourselves from the al a carte when we ordered and it was a tad less than the £270 and like you said you didn’t even bring everything we ordered hence why we don’t believe your maths. Almost £50 on a mandatory service charge as well. Shocking.

We've been coming here for over 20 years and love it for celebration meals. To its continued success!

All you can eat is a joke they basically tell you what you can have on arrival you are given a form to fill out which restricts what you can eat which isnt eat all you can eat starter platter was small with limited selection duck on second course was tiny more pancakes than duck main course what a joke small portions of selected rice curry was just a cup off curry sauce the rest was just embarrassing all this for 25 pound plus a mandatory 2.50 service charge to go with this the manager is rude dont be fooled by the all you can eat its not all you can eat

I have been going to this restaurant for about 15 years. The staff are always helpful and friendly. “You only have to ask”. The food is first class and always plenty of it. Dim Sum is available all afternoon and well worth a visit just for that. As I say friendly staff as is the ambiance of the restaurant itself. I see many regular faces so obviously many happy customers. Thank you to all at Oriental Garden for many fantastic meals over the years.

Piped radio was not nice. Low level chinese music would create better atmosphere.

In Northampton for a gig at the Roadmender so wanted a restaurant nearby. So glad we chose this one. Checked the hygiene ratings before visiting and all good here, the other restaurant nearby had a lower rating. The service was spot on, and the food was excellent. Great quality and amazing flavours. We choose from the la carte menu, there is also an all you can eat menu where they give you a sheet and pen and you mark up on that you want, we saw many people went for this option. Recommend the pork dumplings, sizzling dish, and the yellow bean dish. Also the desserts are tasty and great value. Many Chinese customers eating here which is always a good sign. Highly recommend you try. We will definitely return.

Good food - had your typical British Chinese dishes, but I recommend trying out some of the Chinese specials as they're great and are full of flavour. The staff were great: polite and helpful.

Dim sum has always been top notch, the only negative is that I don't agree with the service charge, I rather them increase the prices on the menu, at least that way you know what your paying for. Last visit I got stung with £18 service charge on top of the bill.

Love this place. Walked by it by coincidence and it was one of the best Chinese restaurants I’ve tried. They have 2 menus, a British Chinese menu and Authentic Chinese menu. The beef with enoki and bean sprout in chilli oil stock was fantastic. Thank you for a great and surprising meal

A huge disappointment. We have been coming for my sons birthday for 6 years, never again. The service was dreadful, we sat for ages before they took a drinks and starters order. Ages for any food to arrive and by the time we got to the mains the kitchen was closing. Mains, 10 people and they only bought out 6 of the dishes, this meant the birthday boy was without his meal. Finally after chasing part came out by which time rice and noodles were cold. It was impossible to get drinks refreshed and staff were disinterested. Such a shame as previous visits had been great. The price has increased so much and 10% on top meant this meal was a rip off. Spoilt the birthday family gathering.

Such a disappointing experience. This has been our family birthday meal for my son for a number of years. This time it was not good. Service shocking, food was delivered in bits with dishes missing leaving the birthday boy without dinner. When it finally came, after chasing, the rice and noodles were cold. Then we were told kitchen was closed so no further orders. We had to go to the bar to get drinks and it was impossible to get staff attention. 10 of us and a complete disaster .

Had the all you can eat menu option which was expansive and very good quality/taste. The service needs to be hurried up a bit for lunch. Will definitely be coming back.

The all you can eat is basically a Chinese take away not traditional. You might aswell get a take away. Really disappointed. We asked to take the first main home and they didn’t let us, we didn’t even go back for seconds. They took it away not telling us that we have to eat it all there. We only had starters lmao.

Have been waiting to try this place for a while for Dim Sum. It was ok, although we left a little disappointed. Have been struggling to find good Dim Sum since we left HK last year. This was ok, maybe a step above Taipan in Milton Keynes but I wouldn't travel over again for it. Bonus is at least easy parking which is free for 2 hours

We used to go a lot and loved it. However this time it's more strict and you can't seem to get more. The dishes have gone down hill and extremely expensive for the food we got. We didn't feel full afterwards

Group of 14 of us stayed had a weekend stay at Northampton and was craving dimsum! This place did not disappoint. The food was decent although would not recommend the Shanghai dumplings as there was no juice inside which was disappointing.

I first tried this restaurant on Mother's Day with my family and it did not disappoint! Then I planned my birthday dinner with my girls and there were 12 of us in the group. The staff were really helpful and nothing was to much for them. The food is amazing and fresh. Staff are very very helpful and welcoming. This is our new go to Chinese 101 %

Had dim sum here with family. Food quality were enough to give an illusion to westerners that they are eating Chinese food though. Environment was satisfactorily clean. Radish cake (蘿蔔糕) was too meshy and not much fillings. Yang zi mango dessert (楊枝甘露) was withOUT any pomelo or grapefruit; nothing more than little mango and sweetened fluid. Other dim sums were satisfactory. One staff was really rude to tell us we should order ONLY once, not to order additional items even for desserts. I'm sure she showed the best attitude ever throughout UK. Not the best experience across midlands. But within one hour drive you can surely find better in Nottingham, Birmingham or Leicester.

The prices are good, the food is delicious, we will definitely be back!

Food was dry and and not that nice. Order was messed up and somehow that was our fault even though it was clear on the paper what was ordered. Staff and manager were rude!! The managers attitude was appalling. If I could give 0 as a rating I would!!! Do not recommend at all.

I have visited this restaurant some years ago , absolutely amazing ! That was a meal for three .Then again for my sons 21st with family again absolutely amazing night all you can eat ! Last night how ever for my daughters 18th ! Never ever again ! Pre booked all you can eat , rushed to our seats ! Barley looked at the starters , and basically pushed into having the platter ! Dry tasteless food ! Surprised my chicken didn’t break our plates ! And we still have teeth ! Burnt prawn toast ! Then onto the second course ! (I passed on this only because I don’t eat duck ) it looked a complete mess embarrassingly a mess ! Not one liked it ! But with extra sauce and dressing they made it edible ! Last course .. meals missing and wrong food ! To top the ruined night the manager was rude did not careless and showed it ! £190 that the rats probably wouldn’t have ate ! But nothing can replace my daughter’s 18th ruined by that disastrous meal , accompanied by my sons and partner ! Never felt so let down! How sad this restaurant as been ruined and they don’t careless! And you can not submit this without giving them a star ! Do they deserve it ?!! No !

Wirklich authentischer Chinese! Man kann dort in die chinesische Küche von Getränken bis zum Nachtisch genießen. Das sieht man selten, dass es in einem chinesischen Restaurant qualitativ hochwertig und sehr abwechslungsreich, echt chinesisch gekocht wird.

The service and staff were great at oriental garden, the atmosphere was serene, the meals(not all) were too sweet, especially the none greens. Maybe I'll stick to noodles, fried rice and dumplings. So far there's a lot of sweets/honey/sugar in Chinese meals, it's been the same experience at the places I have been.

This is not a buffet. ...you order what you want from the menu ,food was ok i ate better chinese food in the town.

We just had our wedding reception lunch last week. It is a classic Canton/Hong Kong style 12 courses set for a group of 10 people. All the food was delicious, beautifully cooked, presented and served. All our guests are amazed and they enjoy the meal. This is a perfect meal for any ceremonial occasions. This menu is not shown in the book menu or website, it is kept in the front desk. You can ask any senior staff for the information.

Not much to look at from the outside but inside the food is great

Absolutely the BEST authentic experience for Chinese cuisine with no one coming close with the quality and level of consistency. Dim sum is unreal and the all the meats such as duck, char Sui and especially their pork belly is just outstanding.

Typical HK Chinese restaurant, great taste

My son and I visited late afternoon on Saturday. The restaurant was busy. We were so rushed to order within 5 minutes of sitting down, we both found the food really salty and not at all tasty compared to other restaurants. I’m absolutely baffled how they are so busy with sub standard food and so expensive. We only had one drink each and one stater and one main course to share with rice and noodles it was over 70 pounds for 2 people

After reading so many excellent reviews myself and my party were extremely disappointed. We paid £28pp for the all you can eat, which isn't all you can eat at all. There's a rule/menu card and you are limited to the amount of dishes you are able to choose, for example 2 people can pick 4 mains for share but 4 people can only pick 6? Makes no sense to me... There is also a MANDATORY...not optional...MANDATORY service charge of 10% PP added which as someone who works in the restaurant industry myself absolutely disagree with. Food was delicious but portions were tiny, 3 of the party left hungry and it's a shame that I probably won't go back as value for money is not good. I know the food is cooked fresh but for all you can eat options in Northampton there are at least two better options to pick from.

We booked the restaurant for our daughters birthday meal she had requested Chinese. We decided on the buffet and whilst the food was tasty and of good quality the service was poor. Drinks replenishment didn’t happen unless heavily requested and it was hard to gain any attention from the waitresses. We did ask for more of a certain dish but it just never appeared and again getting anyone’s attention was near on impossible. The fact they add the service charge on too is a bit cheeky especially as the service was rubbish. I’m sure my wine was watered down too but could be wrong.

The food was amazing but we went for “all you can eat” but it certainly wasn’t all you can eat! Was 4 of us with a limit on how many dishes you could order! And portions were small, at £28pp plus a 10% mandatory service charge pp! Even if service was bad! So was around £40pp and I left tbh still hungry but I will say good was delicious!

Very disappointing meal on Boxing day. Cold restaurant cold bowls luke warm food, they did take it all away but microwaved and brought back chicken all very rubbery. We won't return sadly.

Oriental Garden is a fantastic Chinese restaurant with authentic dim sum and a great value all you can eat offering. We've visited frequently with friends and family and the food has been exceptional and staff extremely attentive. Their ribs in the starter platter are honestly the best I've ever had and their garlic and ginger king prawns are a must try.

I love the food here and eat here every time I'm in Northampton, but sadly I won't go back. There is a compulsory service charge of 10% added to every bill... I eat on my own as I always do when away working and simply shouldn't feel obliged to pay a service charge. The waitress and manager/owner weren't interested in discussing it and basically said "that's the way it is". A real shame but I won't be forced into paying service charges. Money is at a premium and the attitude I faced when questioned it was poor at best. I'm gutted!

Arrived at 8:50. Ordered 5 buffet and some beer. Food was delicious but the bill was nearly £40 per head. So we didn't go back for the second night.
