Beautiful food and excellent service. We had a young man serve us who was so pleasant, attentive but not over the top. The children's meal was a really good size for our 10 year old, though he did go to the main menu for dessert! Will definitely be back!

Excellent. We had a very comfortable and large room in the old post office for the night. Dinner was excellent with plenty of it, the tiramisu was huge and very good. Very cosy bar with well kept ales and friendly girl on the bar pulling the pints. We used to live nearby so it's always on our list for a stay when passing through the lovely Lancashire countryside.

Very disappointing meal today, we have been visiting for years as never had a bad meal (even got married here back in 2018), visited at lunch time, order was taken but no food arrived, almost an hour later we checked where our food was due to noticing couples that ordered after us had already received theirs. Was told order had never gone through to kitchen yet the same waitress hadn’t noticed this? Food arrived swiftly after but quality not as it used to be, pies gone small and chips undercooked and hard (very pale). Manager apologised and said she had knocked some money off the bill yet when checking it was only 10% off the pies so a couple of pounds- not worth the fact we were left with no time for desserts due to the wait. Sadly we will not be returning to what was our “old favourite”.

Went for Sunday lunch. Hadn't booked but we got last table so book! Service throughout was very good indeed. Didn't have any fish pate left but chef made a one off crayfish and prawn starter which was delicious. Beef sublime as were all the trimmings - every element perfectly executed. As a chef I really appreciated everything done so perfectly.

Beautiful pub located at the top of the village looking towards Pendle Hill. Very 'olde worldy but with modern facilities. Mrs P says you can always judge a good establishment by its bathroom cleanliness...these were top notch!. Prices seemed competitive although we just had a beer. Not cheap at £6.00 each but we'll worth it on a bright sunny day sat out at the front with those views. By the time we left it was chockablock inside & the cooking smells were 👌. Can't comment on the rooms but suffice it to say if they are anything like the pub they'll be cozy!.

The food was ok. We were greeted on arrival, by a welcoming waitress..we asked for a highchair, which arrived propmtly, however we had to ask for a cloth to wipe it down as it was dirty (it wasn't busy in the pub, so could've easily been cleaned before being given to us). We waited and waited for them to come and take our order and then my daughter went and ordered at the bar instead, as we were all hungry. She ordered cheese pastry twists, 3 x sandwiches, aspen fries and normal fries. After a small wait the waitress brought sausage rolls, 2 sandwiches and the aspen fries out...... we queried the sausage rolls, she took them back and returned to say they didn't have the pastry twists. We then had to order something else (fish goujons), quickly as they were for my hungry Granddaughter (7 months). The last sandwich arrived about 5 mins later. We asked if the 'normal fries' were on the way, they never arrived. We asked for the bill, which arrived with the fries, that we didn't receive and £9.75 for 3 fish goujons, which was very expensive for what it was...... unfortunately, we won't be rushing back any time soon.

Poor service. Young staff that clearly have not been trained - slamming cups down, walking away whilst being spoken to, poor attitude to clients. Food average at best. Half of the menu unavailable and what was available was mediocre - I wanted the pork and chorizo burger, not available (advised regular burger available with same cheese/accompaniments) , opted for ox cheek pie, 10 minutes later advised that wasn’t available either, so went for regular burger. Had better in a Wetherspoons ! Friends had steak - fatty (ribeye so expected to be somewhat fatty but more fat than meat according to them). One waitress’ attitude cost the rest of the staff a tip. Won’t bother returning. Food mediocre but some (but not all!) of the staff have attitude problems and should not be in a customer facing role.

Location is unbeatable. Absolutely gorgeous village! However the pub was very busy on a Saturday night. Service was non-existent unfortunately. We were never asked if we wanted drinks, so we repeatedly went to the bar to fetch them. Allergen inquiry was a disaster. We only had mains and we were there for 1.5hrs before getting them. Food was underwhelming to be honest! Did speak with the manager who was very apologetic and knocked a chunk off the final bill. But will nto be trying again. Disappointed with the service and food quality today (Monday 25th March). Invited my friend for her birthday. Three of us were dining at lunchtime. Food took a long time to come out and when it did chips were missing with sandwiche, we asked for boiled potatoes instead of chips but one meal came with chips. The chips that did come were overcooked and lukewarm and pies were dry liked they had been sat under heat lamp waiting...We came in October 2023 and had an amazing meal. Not sure why it was so bad for our lunch on this visit 😕

Starters arrived, large black hair in the food meant it was sent back. Seemed a number of staff where new, but I wish them every success. Even though we paid at the bar as requested, we were later asked whilst sat at our table outside if we had paid. Food was 'ok' - no gravy and no veg seemed an oversight but who knows. Hopefully a new team will settle in and improve the experience we had today. Beautiful surroundings though.

Upon arriving in Downham to visit my home town, I and my partner were a little jet lagged, Down Under to Downham in 24 hours will do that to you. Having settled in, I thought we should take a trip down memory lane to the Assheton Arms, what a nice surprise it is to see this beautiful place still going, on our travels to pub we got acquainted with a lovely couple who had just recently just tied the knot, we offered to take them to Assheton as a wedding gift. Good company, Good beer and a great Steak Sandwich, one of the best in fact. A trip down memory lane turned to a day we would never forget, Austin and Evie are coming to visit us in Melbourne in December and we’ve got the Assheton Arms to thank for that, Happy New Year everyone.

Booked a table for mid day for sunday lunch. Mentioned i had a dog, so would be in the bar - no problem. Arrived to be put on a small table in a tight corner, not ideal, but it was ok. Ordered a starter and a main for my wife and I. The starter came in reasonable time and was lovely. Waited and waited and waited even more for the plates to be cleared. They were not taken, the waitress serving behind us didn't give us a second glance. After about an hour, I took the empty plates to the bar and said I was not happy with the delay. After a further 15mins, I went to the bar to say I would pay for what we had been provided with (drinks and food) but to cancel the mains. The first thing the barman did was to go to the kitchen and leave me waiting at the bar. After 2 or 3 mins the manager and the barman came out and apologised. The manager also apologised for "human error" and cancelled the full bill. A reasonable response in the circumstances, but spoilt our day out. Our last (and our 1st) visit here during the summer, the service and food were excellent, so perhaps our experience this time was a one off.

I and one of our group got food poisoning from there fish very ill never went back !! So under different management and years later my husband and I went for Dinner this evening !! To say it’s gone down hill is an understatement!! Short staffed average age of staff early twenty’s !! Lovely but up against it to say the least !! No manager there they had gone home with cellar keys !! So staff couldn’t access seller for wine or to change barrels !! Starters were very poor !! Long wait for main course which to be fare was nice !! But asked for bottle of Pinot noir they had ran out but I could have a glass of it ( turned out to be Malbec) no fire lite in dining area no candles lite on tables hadtwo ask them to light it no atmosphere there!! bill all wrong ( in our favour I should say ) really disappointing!! The staff are all quite young and a bit inexperienced but so so friendly and wanting to help , good natured with a great sense of fun. Our room was well appointed with contemporary modern furnishings , great shower but reasonably small and done steps inside which could be tricky if you have mobility issues. We stayed on the coldest weekend of the year , with snow on the hills which was beautiful. At times the pub felt cold despite the log burners but the warm friendly atmosphere and a girth or two served as winter warmers! The menu has changed since our previous visit snd was more traditional and the service was a little slow at times . I have been in this restaurant many times and always really enjoyed food and service but not last time. On 5th of November was birthday of my daughter. I thought we could have a good time and good food but… The service was terrible. We have wait to see the waiter around 20 minutes. Then my daughter went to the bar and order the bottle of wine. The menu we talked from the next table. A few minutes later the waitress wearing leggings and t-shirt brought the wine, put on the table and walk away. She didn’t ask if the wine was ok, didn’t open it and said nothing. After we waited another half an hour to be asked what we would like.I have ordered fish pie and my daughter ordered sea bass. What a disappointment? Her sea bass was on dry side with with too much over fried samphire. My fish pie looked and tasted more as chowder. Just bland. In the end we have told staff about our bad experience that evening.

Turned up at about 8.50am on Easter bank holiday Monday. Had checked the website before hand. It said open at 8am. So we went along. 4 of us. Three adults and a 2 year old. Got to the door, which was open. Was told “we open in 10 minutes” we asked if we could sit inside for that time (because it was a bit chilly outside) but the dark haired girl said she was doing the cashing up so no we couldn’t. I was there with my daughters and a 2 year old. We were hardly going to rob the place. Plus, it turned out when we got inside that this was a building with a very open communal seating area which she could have let us sit at for 10 minutes. We ordered our food. I asked if there was any juice for kids (the 2 year old) - the dark haired girl working said “only what we’ve got in the fridge”. I said “don’t you have any orange juice or anything like that?” The reply being - “only what we’ve got in the fridge” which was those pretentious glass bottles of 1930’s fizzy pop (the brand that does stuff like dandelion and burdock). I bought two bottles of “Orange and Mandarin” thinking they weren’t fizzy. They were. More fool me. Basically Tory Fanta. Anyway. I went and sat down with my older daughters and my 2 year old son. My daughters ordered avocado on toast with salmon. I had a full English being the uncouth soul that I am. I asked if they have a kids menu for my 2 year old. The answer was no. I ordered him beans, one sausage and some scrambled eggs. I was told this could be done from the side menu, that alone cost £7.50. The beans, sausage and eggs came out on the same plate as one of my daughters breakfast. We had to guess that was the case (not mastermind but still ridiculously daft that they’d do this) we had to ask for a plate for my 2 year old who was in a high chair. Anyway. Another family came in about the same time as us. Low and behold another of their staff bought out two huge glasses of orange juice for them. So they did have other drinks available. My full English was ok, but it wasn’t great. The bacon was burned. It wasn’t crispy like the menu says. It was burned. So if the proprietor/owner wants to reply to this with a clever comment. The bacon was burned. Also, the poached eggs were COLD. And I don’t mean not quite warm, they were cold. We were the first people in, the place wasn’t busy and somehow I was served cold poached eggs. I’ve re read through the menu tonight before writing this review. Whenever I choose a place to eat again I’m always going to look for the word “Artisan” because that to me, on the whole means not very good. The “Artisan” toast I received was just sliced bread, but toasted. They even claim to have an “Artisan” Brioche bun If you look up the definition of “Artisan” in the dictionary it says. a person or company that produces something (such as cheese or wine) in limited quantities often using traditional methods —often used before another noun artisan breads I don’t think that you can claim that obviously pre sliced bread or even a Brioche Bun is “Artisan”. There’s too many mediocre cafes/restaurants who have latched onto this word and used it. The company website claims “We focus on quality and sustainability above all, which extends to everything we do. From our suppliers to takeaway packaging, we carefully select each element keeping you and the planet in mind. We support local, and well-being of the community is at the heart of what we do.” This is nonsense. My daughters asked for some tap water, they were pointed towards one of those fancy upside down glass water bottles, and plastic cups, plastic lids. Lots of plastic. They had paper straws. I don’t know about you, but if you want to be really sustainable, if someone asks for tap water, give them a glass of tap water in a glass. Zero plastic, zero waste. To finish up. Pros - pretty pattern on the coffee. Cons - Really incredibly gormless staff; bad cook who can’t even cook bacon or keep a poached egg warm; rude; not child friendly as no kids menu even at weekends/bank holidays (although there was a couple of high chairs). As you can imagine I will never be going back to this place. I’ve given them two stars because my daughter liked the swirly pattern on the top of her Flat White.

We have a caravan at northwood caravan park and tiggis is just next door, so had to sample their food. Absolutely wonderful. Had the 2 course table d'hote menu, which was fantastic but far too much food. Will go for one meal from the a la carte menu next time.
