Asha Tandoori in Newark and Sherwood

Had a take away today from here, nice staff but very average food at best, we ordered 4 main courses, butter chicken… spicy? Chicken biryani….spicy? Garlic chicken…spicy? No, non of these dishes should be spicy!!! not from anywhere else, also dried chicken that didn’t taste at all like chicken. The rice was also dried and hard. We will never go back. Not good enough for £80!! If you are going to charge that kind of money for a take away then it needs to be decent!!. Not good, find another curry place

We been dinning here for many years lost count its in the hundreds .we have always Found staff very friendly and attentive.food always very nice and tasty we had most things on the menu.we went with some friends who not been before.they loved it can't wait to go again so thanks to mr robb and his team

Have been eating here for many years now and until today have thoroughly enjoyed coming. This evening I came to celebrate with my husband and a group of four men absolutely ruined the experience with the vile language. We asked the staff to have a word with them but they didn't and wanted us to move instead. In an open plan dining room this had zero benefit and we left without eating. Very disappointed with the staffs attitude and spoke with another couple on leaving who were also sickened by the vile language and behaviour from the table

Fabulous as always we have a delivery always on time and excellent food. Always on time and hot Love when we visit too always excellent service

My vegetarian Thali was the worst i have ever had with 4 of the dishes the same brown colour with the same bland taste. Plus no sag paneer as per menu but spinach with melted cheese on top. Given 2 stars as my husband enjoyed his order.

We had no reservation but were warmly greeted. The waiter and service was friendly and the family run business is certainly there to look after you. The food was delicious and we’d definitely come back again.

Ordered a takeaway for 6.20. Had a phone call at 6.20 saying slight delay due to road conditions, told to expect at 6.30. Rang again at 7.00 and told food was ready but waiting for a driver. The reason for delay being that the roads had pot holes and that it was life and death issues for the drivers. Food eventually arrived just before 7.30 and was told it was on the house (fair enough) however, it was stone cold and had to chuck it and ended up going to the chip shop around the corner. just started to read the other reviews, wished I had read them before ordering. This use to be the best in Newark; what on earth has gone wrong!!

I have visited the Asha for many years always been the place in town to go visited on the help out to eat out scheme and as a woman felt very ignored ! Have them the benefit of the doubt had a few takeaways a friends houses food was always late so ordered earlier to accommodate for this then didn’t visit for a while recently revisited food really good ordered a takeaway last Weekend food over an hour late and cold so asked for some Money off which was ok ordered this week food way too spicy for me too eat so contacted Them and sent a new curry asked also for rice as obviously would be cold by the time curry arrived Then tried to charge again for the rice which we refused to pay driver (poor man) rang the restaurant to ask for rice to be taken off I spoke to them and asked if I was supposed to eat my new curry with no rice gentleman on the end of the phone very rude said always a problem with our address which is far from true and told Not to order again and slammed the phone down one me Will not be ordering again or recommending Asha May at one time been the only and best curry place in town but not anymore you now have competition be polite to your customers certainly ones who supported you through the hard times such as lockdown My cash is hard earned and it will no longer be helping to pay the wages of your rude and ungrateful staff I feel sorry for your drivers who suffer all the crap for you !!!!!!

Booked a table online 6 weeks in advance. the online booking tool worked perfectly. Arrived at the restaurant and was greeted by a member of staff who showed us to our table and took our coats. Orders were taken correctly, and all food that arrived was correct and hot. All dishes looked as you would expect. Resturant staff were all very good and attentive considering that it was a very busy Saturday night everyone and everything was well organised. I will be returning and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a good evening out and good Indian food.

People clearly like it, fair enough but my last night visit was the last one (did go once before, didnt like it but decided to give another go, never again). We waited ages for food. (Sat at the table 8.30, main served after 10pm) papadoms arrived with chopped onion- not mixed with coriander, tomatoes - only sliced onion, there was mango chutney and pickles but onion was just sliced onion. Then mixed grill- 1 onion baji, I sheek kebab and a kind of thin burger, no chicken. Main- that was experience, horrible brown gravy cooked with onion, no flavour only heat from chillies, no other herbs noticed, awfully bland and hot despite asking for mild. Meat (lamb in my case) in it coked before separately and added, bland chewy, horrible. I am a curry lover, make my own as well, visited many places in Notts and abroad and must say this was the worst curry I ever had in my life. They charging for fine dining, serving something I wouldnt touch again.

Terrible. All of our Currys were the same colour (brown) and tasted exactly the same - bland. Will not be going back.

Six of us visited Asha for a birthday meal. Without exception, the food was tasteless and visually poor. I had a biryani that just tasted of coconut oil and nothing else. The lighting in the restaurant is all wrong and makes the place look dingy and drab. The waiters were curt, didn't smile or interact with us in any way....and the one who took our payment, didn't even say thank you when I gave him a tip, that they didn't actually deserve. A poor experience all round.

Honestly if you have put 5 stars you have never eaten anywhere else before! Over priced and food is so average it’s unreal! There is no flavour in any dishes, I have eaten over 100 curries in different restaurants and would honestly say this ranked 98th out of them. Bread all butter, sagloo is just potatoes with spinach chucked in no flavour added, my masala honestly has 5 pieces of chicken in sauce that was like tomato, it’s meant to be sweet. I would never eat there again.

So we had a nice meal. Bill was £169 and as a family we put down £180 which was 9 £20 notes. Waiter comes back saying we have short changed them. Has £10 notes on the tray which none of us had! Ripped off in the staff do not give a toss will not be back. Food is spot on but would not accept we had paid in full. Spoke to manager but he was adamant I was wrong !! Will never return and felt like I was a criminal!

Honestly do not get a take away from here 😒 complete rip off! We spent £50 for 3 adult's and 1 child. Was dismal tiny portions, little meat and were sorely disappointed in the whole. We were shown to our table and drinks order taken promptly and given a good amount of time to choose food We had to use our phone torch to see the menu as the lighting is very low The food itself was good we had kebab puri which was really tasty Lamb shashlick ( lots of onions not a lot of lamb) Chicken tikka masala ( really good with about 8 pieces of chicken 2 x pilau rice Onion bhaji ( dry and flat ) Garlic naan ( soft and fluffy) 3 1/2 cobra £90 The restaurant itself is a typical old fashioned Indian that needs updating .. especially the 1 toilet … the thing that really let it down was the totally non existent interaction from the waiters .. they didn’t really speak or smile or look slightly interested in fact one just stood staring at the wall and another sat on his phone … and all the way through our meal all we could hear was the guy at the bar incessantly talking loudly to a young girl ? Employee ? So all in all thank god the food was decent but unfortunately we won’t try there again as it wasn’t an enjoyable experience

Whilst on holiday we had a takeaway delivered to Coddington, we all thoroughly enjoyed it and would highly recommend. It was a 2 hour wait so worth taking that into account and ordering earlier but we’ll worth the wait.

Ordered a takeaway for 7pm. Arrived 25 minutes late after me phoning twice to see where it was. I wrote a specific note re delivery which was ignored and the driver was somewhere totally different. Food total rubbish. Cold to the point we microwaved a £35 take out not acceptable! Taste was bland, tough and tasteless. Rang to complain and was offered £10 discount next time, knowing full well we wouldn't order again then he just dismissed the call. AVOID AT ALL COSTS

Food was well below average and overpriced, bland and poorly presented, also issue with overcharge on the bill which the waiter was not going to resolve, his attitude was the bill is correct and that’s what you will pay ! I think NOT - manager/ owner stepped in and resolved the over charge straightaway

The service was quietly efficient the ambience and comfort of the chairs was excellent too. Much to my surprise poppadoms we ordered came with some tasty additions which were delicious. My wife and I both ordered lamb dishes which were very mild with pilau rice for her and garlic naan bread for me. The servings were very generous and neither of us could have managed another course. Our companion appeared to enjoy his bright red chicken dish too. As overseas visitors the prices appeared to be quite reasonable. The whole experience was very good.

Terrible food. I totally agree with review in Feb 2022 by Ziamber. All the food was the same colour, a horrible dark brown colour, even the Korma. It all looked the same and we tasted each other’s and it all tasted the same, bland, tasteless food. And agree the prices were different to the online menu, most mains were £11.99+. We called the Manager over to air our disappointment and he just muttered and disappeared. The restaurant was busy but cannot believe people frequent this restaurant. They obviously don’t know a good curry! I would rate this 1/10.

My partner and I came to this restaurant for Valentine’s Day. We were greeted and seated, we ordered our drinks and food and the service with a smile did not exist. The restaurant decor was from the 1980s. Our starters arrived and were ok, nothing great but the main courses were dreadful. We ordered Prawn curry (£16.99 they tried to charge us). We ordered lamb rogan josh( 12.95) Both dishes taste and look the same, it was the same curry sauce and just added meats. It as awful taste, the lamb was actually mutton. Next to us, customer ordered butter chicken, looked same as our curry, he too was disappointed. The food prices are not the same prices as advertised. Almost 25% more. Later that night we both vomited and had upset stomach wall night. Very expensive and the staff so grumpy and in outdated uniform. I had been overcharged by at least £15 more than the menu prices. Business is hard these days but to serve such poor quality food and poor service to match. Sad!!! Sad!!! Sad!!! I really want my money back. A wasted £66. Lucky they got one star.

The food was average, nothing out of the ordinary so 3 star at best and was overpriced for what you get. The reason I've given 1 star is both my partner and myself (who tolerate curries very well) both had very dodgy stomachs after eating here. I suspect due to a meat samosa that was served lukewarm due to not being cooked to temperature by the chef. The restaurant was dead and there were a lot of grumpy looking waiters stood around doing nothing. We tried to be chatty with them but they were really sullen. My partner even told one of them it was my birthday and the waiter didn't wish me a happy birthday let alone crack a smile. The staff member behind the bar even told the waiters off, telling them whilst it's quiet they should engage more with diners, which was very awkward. Conversations like that should happen privately out of earshot of diners. We moved to Newark last year and it was our first time at Asha, and sadly we won't be returning.

They accommodated me and my daughter at short notice . Poppadoms (and pickles) light and crispy , Chicken Korma and joy puri = sensational , naan a sugary highlight . Early Saturday atmosphere fairly electric . All in all it’s the best restaurant in Newark ! Recommend to all in Notts and Lincs !

After hearing about how good this place is meant to be I ordered for collection and arrived home, the curry I received definitely was not what I ordered and when I rang to ask about the man on the phone was extremely rude and basically told me it was my fault, nothing was resolved as I was hung up on. Will not order again.

We had a takeaway delivered, it was on time, hot and tasted amazing. Definitely as good as when you dine in the restaurant, I hope the delivery service will continue as we love getting our favourite curry to the door.

This has to be by far the best Indian restaurant for miles and miles. Been a customer for over 30 years, the food is exceptional, full of flavour and freshness. The Asha never fails this is Indian cooking at its very best. Well done Rob and your team.

During this difficult time, Asha is now doing a delivery service. Amazing, bringing your favourite foods into your homes without the hassle of going out to collect.

Always great food and the best place by far in the area. Whatever we order it’s always so tasty and fresh and full of flavour.

Made a special journey from Lincoln to visit Asha on Thursday evening as our previous visits had always Been really good. However on this occasion we were most disappointed. My partner ordered the Special biryani which was very greasy and tasteless on arrival, my dish was chicken tikka rogan which again was bland and tasteless. Nothing fresh like coriander to zing things up.There was nothing to recommend either meal. The staff although courteous were not friendly and although the restaurant was not busy at all a glass of water took 10 minutes to arrive. Sad to say we shall not be returning.

Come here often as its my favourite place. Didnt book unfortunately but they didnt hesitate to fit me and my friend in for a meal, on a busy Saturday night. Fantastic food and service to match. Will always reccomend!

Fantastic food as always! My wife and I went when it was very busy so the kitchen would have been manic. That said the food was fantastic and great service.

I had the mixed Balti which was good, tasty and filling; our table ordered a wide variety of meals and everyone enjoyed the food. The starters were also nice I had the butterfly prawn. Nice relaxed feeling about the place and the waiters were attentive.

Sadly just visiting the area, if I lived here I’d be a regular. Hands down the best veggie curry I have ever eaten. It was divine. I had the veggie curry that began with a Z, can’t remember what it was called but it had an amazing flavour. For pudding a had a yummy ice cream thing with saffron syrup, again, amazing flavours :)

What wonderful food. We ordered a starter, main dish and a side and could not finish due to the large portions! The tastes were wonderful. As well as the staple curries there were chefs specials which I would recommend. In particular the Shatkora main if you like a tasty, spicy curry and the Bindi bhaji as a freshly prepared side. Prices very reasonable for the quality of the food.

Been there twice recently. Used to live near Bradford, where there loads of good curry places, and this place is up there with the best.

Food was disgusting. Naan was greasy korma was very spicy when told staff member he was rude about it the situation. We were still eating when a staff member asked if we had finished our food. Never asked if we would like another drink during the meal. When paying the staff member was disrespectful to my wive. In a whole food horrible,staff very rude!!! never returning.PLEASE AVOID

Can’t beat the asha for a good curry. I live in Leicester now and this beats most places there hands down for choice and flavour . Came here for my Dad’s birthday and we had an excellent meal. They even got dad a cake. Chicken Tava and the balti exotica were amazing.

Food was delicious! Good value and service was friendly. It was a week night and therefore a bit quieter then I would imagine at the weekend. I would definitely go again.

We visited on Friday night, and had a lovely Indian meal. This was our second visit, having visited when we were in town last year, and looked forward to returning. There's plenty of choice, the food was delicious, and very reasonably priced.

Four of us enjoyed a great meal. We each had a different dish which were all presented beautifully. The service was great and very friendly. We will definitely return.

I’ve been eating at the Asha for too many years to remember, Rob and his team consistently serve really top quality and tasty curries, particular favourite is the 24 hr lamb (minimum 4 People marinated leg of lamb- must be Pre-booked) nice relaxed “more traditional” atmosphere, wouldn’t get a curry from anywhere else in Newark.

A locals favourite and for a reason. You’re guaranteed to enjoy a tasty curry - they’re experts and the staff are very helpful with any additional support customers may require. I recommend the Dahl soup and chicken tikka garlic. Enjoy!

New to Newark (due to work), easy parking outside the restaurant, nice relaxed atmosphere and really really tasty food! We will definitely be returning

We popped in as we wasn’t sure where to eat one Sunday for the first time. Menu had lots of choice and a lot of chef special dishes. Food was lovely and the service was great Would deffo recommend

Me and my partner always used to go asha for food as it was always spot on. We ordered a takeaway tonight and had my usual and it was awful, it was like something had gone off. We rang up and they said they would make a fresh one so we went back to pick it up and it was still disgusting even my partner said how bad his was and he didn't even have the same as me. Will not be returning again.

We love visiting this resturant, eating in or take away always had the most amazing food. The resturant has a lovely atmosphere and staff are really welcoming and friendly. Great smaller portions for our daughter too. We have visited again today and would highly recommend it.

Our regular Indian restaurant. Booked by my daughter for father’s day. The whole experience was fantastic. We arrived a few minutes late, not an issue, greeted very welcoming by all staff members. Drinks order arrived very efficiently, daughter changed her drink choice, not an issue , no problem. Food exquisite, quality was perfect, portion size was ample. Even took our overs home as a takeaway no problem for them to pack up for us. Taxi ordered for us on a busy festival night came within 5 mins. No deviation from the menu is too much trouble, ask and they will adapt. Yet again another fantastic experience from all aspects of drinks, service, food quality and whole experience. Highly recommend this venue.

First time we have been there. Nicely decorated. Good atmosphere. Extensive menu. Let us choose where we wanted to sit. Not very attentive service. We felt rushed. Poor communication. Onion bhajis were over cooked so rubbery. Prawn puri was the best starter. All main feels were luke warm and had no flavour. Biryani lacked flavour and heat. Would not return for another meal

well what can i say .only the best twice in less then a week we go to the asha as you can see lots and lots of times never a problem .food service staff all great.so iff you fancy a nice meal go give i a try you wont go far wrong

Called here with some friends for lunch a couple of weeks ago. 2 of us chose the Thali which was very tasty, the tandoori chicken being fresh and just the right amount of heat. The other 2 chose individual dishes which they both claimed to be great. Pickles for the poppodums didn't include raita which I found a little strange as you get it in all other places but they were happy to provide once we had asked for it. All in all a very nice lunch and we would come back again if the Everest is closed as it was on this occasion.

Really nice restaurant. Couldn't decide where to eat, passed Asha on the way to get a drink and decided to give it a chance. Very rarely eat tandoori but we fancied a change and it was one of the best meals we've ever had! Really good value for money given the portion sizes and quality of food and the staff were also really good. After poppadoms and pickle tray, I had the house special biriyani and my partner had the tandoori mixed grill. Although we put a good dent in them we couldn't finish our food (although we wanted to)...really glad we didn't have starters as well! Menu has some unusual dishes and I'm looking forward to trying the tandoori salmon or one of the venison dishes when we're next in Newark. Would recommend highly.

I do think the restaurant prices are a little pricey but the food is very good and I like the traditional decor and unpretentiousness of the place.

Have been coming to the Asha for many years. The food is amazing! The Jal Salmon is absolutely gorgeous. Friendly staff that greet you with a smile and always happy to give you a recommendation.

Traditional westernized indian but very good. Had the chicken Jeerza and a good combination of heat and sweet flavour. Portions are large glad now I did not have the nan bread.

We visited Asha tonight after a business meeting in Newark. The staff were very helpful in recommending dishes we would enjoy. I had the Thali which was a mixture of allsorts and thoroughly enjoyable! You won't need a starter beforehand. The food was very well cooked and very tasty. Even on a weekday evening the restaurant was popular and had a good atmosphere. Definitely recommend!

We have been eating out at the Asha for 20 years to enjoy celebrations of all kinds in this warm and friendly environment. It never disappoints. The service is always excellent and attentive, and the food is fabulous.

well here again at this asher my special birthday so we had a family get together large table to cater for mr robb and his team hit of again great food service and atenstion to detail never a problem nice bottle of champers from mr robb to finish evening off .had folks from away all said how nice the asher is and can understand why we keep coming back .now booked for new years eve again.

Visiting Newark with work so called in for a meal.

Called here this evening for the first time having met the owner previously who said I should give the place a go. Thankfully I wasn't disappointed!

Have been visiting this restaurant on and off for years, is the best in Newark, also frequently use takeaway. Staff always helpful and friendly. Bhuna and Biryani are the family favourites, Onion Bhaji and Garlic Pilaw rice is excellent. Best to book and request a table away from entrance. Food and drinks reasonably priced. Never had a bad experience and food always good. The Speciality dishes are always good to try. We had a nice treat at the end of our meal to celebrate our daughters 18th, thankyou.

Everything we ordered came out like dark brown sludge. Tasted awful in fact it all tasted and looked the same even though we ordered 3 different dishes. Shockingly bad. Worst curry I have ever ever tasted. A total waste of money, the staff were not interested even though we brought the quality and appearance to their attention.
