Asafo African Take Away in Croydon

Very oily, lacked flavour and the meat portion was tiny! Unfortunately will not go back or recommend to anyone

First time ordering here and did it through Uber Eats. I left a review there but just had to leave a review here! My husband and I ordered (1) Jerk Chicken and (2) African Tomato Stew Chicken both with jollof rice. There were 4 small pieces of jerk chicken with not much meat on the bone or flavour. The stew chicken was mostly oil with spicy taste and minimal flavour (photo doesn't do it justice). It was wrapped in saran wrap and when taken off oil just poured out of closed container. Absolutely disgusting. I've never seen so much oil in African food. The rice was relatively dry and flavourless. Within minutes of us eating we were both on the toilets (which I'm writing this review from). Thank God we got a 50% discount on this order. NEVER EVER AGAIN!!! *Note that most of those 4 and 5 star reviews for this restaurant are from years ago! Always look at most recent reviews!

I lived on top of this shop and wow you should have seen the size of rats that was running haywild at night. The pest control came out and next thing he said when he went down there was there's rat dropping everywhere in the back. Avoid at all cost

Thought I would try Asafu on Whitehorse lane rather than order from their Brixton Hill shop where I normally go. The food wasn’t the best. The rice lacked flavour and was very mushy and didn’t have much veg in it. My mum took one mouthful and spat it out! 😩🤦🏽‍♀️. The beef stew was ok, but the tomatoe sauce wasn’t quite the same as their Brixton hill shop. There was a lot of oil in the gravy. I would never order from here again.. what a disappointment & waste of money! SMH

Please don't take people's money on Uber Eats When you do not have the food in stock, then you called me to let me know you don't even know how to cancel orders. I hate restaurants that do this. They take people's money and then call you to see if you want something else; If they've not got it in stock, it's absolutely disgusting service and as black people WE need to do better...it's always Jamaican and African restaurants that do this. UGH 😡

The food used to be really nice a year ago. I don’t know if they’ve come under new management but the quality and portion size is so bad now I wouldn’t know where to start. The stew is 90% oil and 10% actual meat. The jollof was burnt, colourless and tasted horrible. And this is every time I have ordered, not just a one off. Wouldn’t recommend unless they go back to their old practices.

After waiting almost two hours for my food. They gave me the wrong item. Absolutely gone down hill. Do even bother. The little girl there has no manners..she better have her documents with all that attitude

AVOID!! bad bad customer service from the start. Two women was just standing there as I entered and didn’t greet me or anything and kept looking at me as to say I wasn’t supposed to be there. When on of the ladies decide to serve me she wasn’t even polite in the slightest. I asked if they take card she said transfer the payment which was so unprofessional and when I asked if any cash point around she rudely said I don’t know. When I decided to do the transfer, which I shouldn’t have tbh, she left and the other women served me. When I confirmed all done she try say let me see before to know if you done it. So rude I will never use my money here again!!!

They deserve a minus rating. Do not spend a coin at this place. I have never had such a bad experience in my life - they made a mistake with the order, charged me over £30 more than he originally told me on the phone and was EXTREMELY rude when politely asked for where the discrepancy was. It’s such a shame when you want to support local black businesses and they lack customer service skills and have unnecessarily rude and foul behaviour. This place needs to be shut down. He also said the prices of the meals ‘change everyday’ and the prices they advertise are wrong.

AVOID, AVOID AVOID! This establishment does not deserve peoples hard earned money. The owner needs to be retrained in basic customer service skills. He makes up prices on the spot, he is abusive and disrespectful to men, women and children. My order was wrong, the pricing was wrong and I was verbally attacked when I highlighted the errors. The food isn’t even worth it, the banku and tilapia wasn’t even worth the abuse. Please go and support other black owned/ Ghanaian establishments where your money is appreciated!

The owner is a very rude man and has zero customer service skills. He makes prices up and customers can’t trust the prices that are advertised within the store as “prices change all the time and he can’t be updating the advertised menu”. I was overcharged based on what is reflected on the menu and when I queried this I was spoken to rudely and shouted at. After shouting back and defending myself I was finally given the overcharged amount and told not to come back to the shop… terrible service

Worst ever experience. The man was very rude and has no customer service experience. Charging customers at random. When you ask him a question, he becomes rude, loses his temper, shouts and asks you to leave. I wouldn't recommend his restaurant even to my worst enemy.

Verry rude I felt very disrespected horrible experience would avoid at all cost !!! Thé place is dirty hygiene is very poor it smelt really bad . If you want authentic good food and decent service where they don’t shout at you go to The asafo in Brixton hill .

The guy on the phone kept shouting at me because i forgot to request receipt whiles ordering. He literally made it clear that the value of food I'm ordering is not worth them sending me a receipt via email. He was so loud and disrespectful even when he was taking my order. If there was a zero rating, they would deserve it

Avoid, avoid, avoid. The uncle at the front is beyond rude. You try to support black businesses but behaviour like that (yelling at customers, coming from behind the counter to open the door to tell people to get out of his shop despite him being the one who got the order wrong) - is exactly why our community lacks support. If you’re really craving Ghanaian food, go to a different location or different franchise.

WORST EXPERIENCE EVER. Ordered on the phone for collection and when asked for a price the man told us he couldn’t give us a price. When we got their our food wasn’t made and we had to wait for 30 minutes only to be shouted at and told to leave when we asked for the price. The man is extremely rude, disrespectful and clearly doesn’t have any regard for his business. I wouldn’t recommend.

If I could score zero they would get it. Absolutely DISGUSTING man, he talks to you like a child. How dare you scream and shout at your customers because YOUR service is slow. I would love for you to try it in my face kwasia man.

The staff in this place are extremely rude, arrogant and disrespectful!!!! I called to find out what the situation was with my order (respectfully) and the coward of a man hang up the phone on me...

If you are looking for real authentic Ghanaian food, this is the best. The taste is second to none. They now have two locations, one on Brixton and the other Croydon. The seating is limited though ABC wait times can be long but which African plays offers fast food lol.
