Nipped in for a coffee with my friend, the iced coffee was good but the service was not. The person who served me was so rude and abrupt. When they brought our coffee over to the table they slammed them down and walked away. I understand everyone has bad days but there is no need to talk to someone the way they spoke to me, especially when they are charging over £4 for a coffee. Side note, the other staff did seem accommodating and friendly.

Coffee always great. However staff are not consistently good. Last few times I’ve been served by someone who looks like they can’t be bothered being there. Then something that i really find intolerable and offensive, they showed me the contactless payment machine with the tip option for 1 takeaway coffee. Seriously? Do the honourable thing and tap ‘no tip’ before the customer has to, after all this is not a restaurant with table service!

This was easily my least favorite coffee experience of the last 12 months. I found this cafe online and decided to walk to Stockbridge and enjoy an exceptional coffee on a wintery afternoon. Unfortunately what transpired was utterly unsatisfactory, and I know it's just a cup of coffee, but for a company that prides itself on roasting their own beans, to the point of classing themselves as artisan roasters, it really should have been above par. As I sat and waited for my order (which was quite miserable at best), I watched the barista bang out coffees with a hypnotic fury that bordered on disdain for her craft and base ingredients. It was like watching a tragic production line in which the workers had absolutely no interest in what they were creating, or of the consumer's enjoyment of the end product. If this was a shoe factory in Vietnam, that may be justified, but not in a so-called artisan cafe in Edinburgh. Extremely disappointing.

I have tried their Leith Walk branch, which I hadn't noticed before. The room is very spacious, with high ceilings: it feels airy and pleasant. The coffee on the other hand was just OK, a rather indifferent blend, and not so impressive for a speciality coffee venue, called "artisan roast", with matching prices. The execution of the flat white was also not the best.

No WiFi, determinedly so, with signage on tables exhorting customers to talk to each other. Very odd. Perhaps the owners might go the whole hog and grind coffee beans by hand after roasting them over an open fire. They could have a cow (and goat) out back.

Artisan can roast coffee to perfection, they can make excellent coffees in their cafes but they are so artisanal that their cafes are rough and ready to the point of uncomfortable shabby in-chic. We had coffees and a cake and while those were fine, we had to perch at wee tables. Maybe they see the market as take away.

I love this place - coffee is taken very seriously here. I ordered a Pepito, a preparation I had not had before, very strong, I loved it. Grab a stool or a seat outside or in the "parlour" and your barista will prepare your choice of coffee. Obviously a popular place but off the beaten track for tourists. Service is very friendly and as each order is prepared separately be prepared to take a seat and wait - it is worthwhile! There are bakery items but I did not try any this time.

We stopped by on Saturday morning to get some coffee to takeaway and enjoy over at Inverleith Park. The coffee is really well made and tastes delicious. We will definitely go back and try the cakes next time along with our coffee. Staff were friendly and clearly take pleasure in making your coffee and put the effort in.

Lovely small coffee shop in great location. Music was varied and at a perfect volume to allow for easy conversation. Coffee was perfect! I asked for milk and was given the option of hot or cold, the barista also left enough space in my coffee to add the extra milk. Excellent presentation and knowledge of the coffee. Although I didn't have a cake they looked great! I will be back here soon.

This is a nice little coffee shop and we enjoyed a relaxing coffee and bite to eat. The staff were friendly. The cafe is decorated in a rustic fashion which is nice.

I wonder how this place gets a supposedly good name for coffee making. It looks fantastic and the pattern on the top is exquisite but why is it lukewarm? Might be 65 degree milk but it must have been chilled cups as it could be downed in one ten seconds. Had another two made for us but just the same, might be needing their thermometers re-calibrated or is it guessed by ear or touch? We won't be back as others say there are a few cafes in Edinburgh so much better

We stopped in here for coffee and cake. The ordering is quite odd - you order at the bar but do not pay until you leave. We did offer to pay when we ordered (when there wasn't a queue), but there were loads of people milling around the till as we left and it took quite some time to get served when we wanted to leave, making me wonder how much money they must lose from people just walking out.The lemon and lavendar cake is delicious and the coffee is very well made. If they sort the odd ordering out it will be a great spot...

I have been meaning to come in here for ages as it looks lovely - recently done up and nice looking coffee and cakes. Never again! It was interesting to see a review below saying that staff were too busy rolling cigarettes and messing on phones as both of these things happened today when I was there too. I rarely write bad reviews on tripadvisor but really have little positive to say about this place. We were passing today so went in to check it out. Three staff behind the counter all too busy on their phones to bother themselves saying hello. After we had cleaned our own table which was covered with plates and cups, I went up to order coffee but again, their phone correspondence clearly took priority over serving paying customers. Eventually someone came to take my order. Coffee was ok. Cake looked nicer than it tasted. I am a stickler for customer service - or common courtesy at the very least. Will absolutely not be making a return visit. Far nicer and friendlier places in Stockbridge.

Really excellent coffee - always good to see an Aeropress in a coffee shop! Really nice helpful chap serving who also recommended some fantastic freshly roasted Kenyan beans for me to take home. Worth making the effort to seek out when your in Edinburgh.

Just reliably great coffee, served in a civil way. I've been a number of times and can't fault the caffeine hit I've got on any occasion. Isn't that the point?

Artisan has a earned a reputation in Edinburgh for serving up good coffee and has grown throughout Edinburgh and Glasgow. I met a friend for coffee today in the Stockbridge branch. I had the unpleasant experience of going to there loo. It really was very grubby, dark and dingy with a dribble of watered down hand soap. The lino was coming of the floor. I wonder how the staff wash there hands after they have used the loo and serving food and drinks up to customers. Needless to say. I ended up not using there toilet and left rather disappointed as the cafe itself was really nicely thought out. It's a shame that the detail hasn't been carried throughout. Not some where I would visit again.

I don't usually write reviews but I feel I have to because I honestly can't believe how shockingly bad service was..We walked in and were met by 3 staff members glaring at us. Almost as if we stumbled into a party we weren't invited to. We stood there and the staff members just ignored us, played with their phones and fiddled with the music. Coffee was very small and toilet was downright filthy, looked like it hadn't been cleaned years.Upon trying to pay, the 3 staff members ignored us again. One staff member was actually rolling a cigarette in the coffee preparation area and next to the cakes while we were standing waiting to pay and only decided to serve after moaning that he 'the filters had gone missing'.I understand the whole look like we aren't trying hard vibe but then there is looking like you don't care at all and that customers are like dog crap on your shoe.Avoid and save your money or support a more caring business elsewhere.

I've been to this location once and is probably the only Artisan I'll ever go back to. The coffee is burnt, I have no idea why people think burnt coffee is good. The decor here is great, multiple rooms, seating out front with the flowers shop in and outside and the massive front windows, the awesome part.

Coffee in here is delicious best in Stockbridge. Personally think they should do away with the flower area and have sofas in the whole shop.

I live near the store and go regularly because the coffee is fantastic. Unfortunately however, it is becoming increasingly difficult to justify. Every time I go in, the dark haired Australian barista with the nose ring and arm tattoo makes it uncomfortable. He is entirely unfriendly, rude and difficult. I've experienced it personally, and seen it experienced by other customers more than once. I work in a far busier hospitality venue than this place, and know that it can be challenging, but there's no need for the level of rudeness and pretension that this guy delivers.

My very young children and I had a shocking experience with the manager at this store today after being sorely misunderstood then treated like animals; we walked away genuinely floored at the way we had been treated, and physically pushed out of the store. In hindsight I regret not standing my ground and waiving my rights in the power-hungry lion’s face. I will be delighted to never return nor give our recommendation to any friends or family. So long, Hotel Chocolat.

Was recommended here as I am celiac and they have a gf menu. As we were unsure what time we would be going (prior commitment before hand) I did not book. We arrived at 2.45pm and there was a sign outside saying 'bookings only, no walk ins' This was NOT on their website. We went in and spoke to a female member of staff who advised exactly what the sign had said. I then spoke to a male member of staff and asked where on their website it stated what the sign said, he said it didn't. Advised that due to rugby being on, they were unusually busy. The restaurant is large and they were not full to capacity. Asked if there was anyway we could have a table for 2 for an hour, point blank told no. We won't be returning.

Popped in for a pint en route to the Taylor Swift gig at Murrayfield. It can be found at the west end of Princes Street, just as you start walking down Queensferry Road. To be honest, our pints weren’t amazing. Two of us opted for the Pravha and found them a bit flat and sickly. A real shame, because the selection of draughts on offer was great and the pub itself had a nice traditional feel to it. Cost wise, by far the cheapest round of the day but for quality, one of the weakest.
