Fruit flies with your drinks, we booked for tonight as they were full Saturday, lovely food and pleasant welcome, but the fruit flies were really annoying and got into your drinks, husband sent back two drinks with flies in them. Would I return, probably not, spoilt by flies.

This is simply the best restaurant I have visited in the Dundee / Angus area for some time. Here there are few restaurants that possess the creativity, quality of food and value for money we experienced at Armstrongs. The comfortable and relaxed venue with friendly and efficient staff make this an ideal choice for lunch.

Starters of Brie and crab were amazing. Steak pie was good as were the duck tacos. The mains were a very generous portion. Staff were friendly.

Outstanding food and friendly and attentive service. Armstrongs' staff were so flexible with adapting to our group's dietary requirements. Highly recommend to anyone looking for quality, local food, prepared to an excellent standard and delivered to your table by helpful staff.

Lovely starter of haddock scotch egg and asparagus. Delicious steak and ale pie. Good and friendly service. Busy place, but staff still don't keep you waiting. My two complaints are that the boiled potatoes had black bits and were quite large potatoes. No cider on tap.

We stopped here on chance for a bite of tea, we were told they could fit us in as we did not have a reservation as long as we were o longer that 2 hours, so we were happy with that. All 3 of our meals were just delicious, the staff were very friendly and we found no fault at all. We felt the prive was very reasonable for what we had. Would definitely come here again if in the area.

Not been for a while but enjoyed our lunch here today. Food was delicious and the servers, a young guy and young girl were attentive, efficient and pleasant while not being in your face. Will be back.

Just had an excellent lunch here for for my husband's birthday. It was very busy with a a very chilled atmosphere. The staff were exceptional - it was a wonderful experience!! Thanks to you all.

We had a lovely meal with friends here for my birthday gathering. 13 of us. Food was spot on, service mostly great but a few small issues. We booked a week in advance for Friday night twixmas. Were offered 6.45 or 7.15 so opted for the latter. Explained we were travelling and would it be ok to book taxis for 11pm as we noticed that when they closed and we didn’t have plans to go out afterwards mainly due to the time of the year. Not a problem they said. On the phone they suggested we could have a few drinks on the sofa and bar stools around the fire. Sounded perfect. Food was really good, even catered for our gluten and dairy free friend (where they could). After dessert (9.50pm) two of our party asked for Irish coffee and was denied citing coffee machine was turned off 😳 We were spending £600+ this was very disappointing. My friend asked if it could be switched on again but no effort was made by female waitress to agree. So liquer it was. We couldn’t even take our drink around the fire as it wasn’t on. Was probably one of the coldest wettest darkest December nights. Would have been lovely. We daren’t ask for it on if witching the coffee machine back on was a problem! Shout out to the young lad serving. He did a great job. Thorough, efficient and friendly. We think he’d have switched the machine on for us if it had been him dealing with us at this point. Nothing seemed too much trouble which is how it should be. We wouldn’t let this put us off.

The restaurant is in a country setting. The staff are very welcoming, enthusiastic about the food and very professional. The menu is excellent and the food is fabulous. Portions are generous and prices very reasonable. This has to be one of the best restaurants in Angus, we will certainly be going back.

As always this restaurant was busy and had a lovely atmosphere the staff were all very helpful and attentive. I had a fillet steak and although maybe a little pricey it was worth every penny. It was cooked to perfection and all accompanying food was delicious. My husband had lasagne which was home made and really tasty. We both had puddings of a mixed berry pavlova and white chocolate with mango cheesecake both were also delicious. Have been here a few times and never been disappointed.

Both our meals (steak and steak pie) were delicious. Service was very attentive and friendly. Good atmosphere on a Friday evening as restaurant was busy. Didn’t apply to us, but vegan and vegetarian options looked plentiful.

Usually one of our favourite restaurants, our visit this evening quite literally left a bad taste in our mouths. The disappointment of badly-cooked food was then exacerbated by an unacceptable delay in service while attempting to pay the (quite frankly insulting) bill. Burnt pastry on the steak pie, over-cooked chips, belly pork that could have resoled hiking boots, and service that, while friendly, was invasive enough to interrupt several conversations and actually spoiled the entire dining experience. Based on this evening's experience I'm genuinely disappointed, and can honestly say we'll be thinking twice before returning to a former favourite.

Just had couple nights away and stayed at Drumshademuir Camp site ( which is also excellent) and ate out both nights at Armstongs. Firstly, the staff are a credit to the business. The restaurant itself is welcoming and a bar area to sit either before or after your meal. Choice on menu was good and meals were excellent. That along with the service made for two very enjoyable nights. Second time using the site and restaurant and look forward to the third. Please keep up the high standards and will look forward to the next visit. Hopefully the staff read the reviews and know that they are appreciated

We had a birthday meal for me and my daughter with 9 people in all. The meal and service were excellent. We had a great time. Thanks to the kitchen and front of house staffs for an enjoyable evening.

We are regular diners in this establishment however, our recent meal was disappointing. The vegetarian chilli was inedible as it was too spicy. We advised our server of this and she said she would pass the comment to the chef. Prior to booking we always advise we are vegetarian and have some expectation there might be a special on but there never has been. With respect to the desserts we had to ask what the special was otherwise we would not have been told. There was also a large party of 20 people sitting adjacent to us and again on booking I believe we should have been told about his as it was rather noisy. On paying we had a full expectation that the chilli would not be charged for as it was not eaten however, no such luck, and again disappointing as we eat there fairly regularly.

The staff made this place for us, so attentive, brought water for the dogs and we didn't even ask. Food was lovely and above what we expected.. the venison and blue cheese burgers were a great hit. Definitely recommend if you are in the area Food: 5/5 | Service: 5/5 |

We visited Armstrong's this week for an early dinner with family and friends. The food was lovely and reasonably priced. The kids' menu ticked all the boxes and the main menu had a great selection, including the option of a 'smaller' plate - a great idea, perfect for slightly hungrier kids, or if you're hoping to save room for dessert! The staff, were friendly and helpful, in particular Jessie who served us. The food was freshly cooked, meaning you'll wait a little longer, but it's very much worth the wait; as the food is delicious, and every plate at our table was cleared (hats off to the chef!). My biggest regret is not having known about this place sooner! My daughter has Coeliac Disease and requires a strict gluten-free diet, Armstrong's is accredited by Coeliac UK and offers an amazing gluten-free menu. All their fish and chips are gluten-free, along with lots of other dishes; as well as other options that can be adapted accordingly. Food is prepared, cooked and served safely, to avoid contamination; and the staff are helpful and knowledgeable! It was great to eat out in a restaurant that made her feel like a 'regular' customer, where she could have her pick of the menu without any fuss or extra attention! We were recommended Armstrongs and it didn’t disappoint. Very helpful when we booked seated as soon as we arrived ( even tho we were early!) pleasant and attentive staff. The food was extremely good. Scallops as one starter and mackerel rarebit as the other. My wife and I both had the venison delicious! The food was impeccable beautiful prepared high quality ingredients and well presented. Highly recommended. Only one slight quibble the wine list was limited which was a shame for the quality of good. But this didn’t stop me giving Armstrongs 5 stars. Would certainly go back.

Booked a table late in the day but was fortunate to obtain a table. The Restaurant was very busy but the service as ever was impeccable. I ordered the Sea Bass and my wife chose the fish and chips. Both dishes were delicious and served with excellent accompaniments. My wife then had the Pavlova and I had a wonderful tart. This restaurant is a marvellous advertisement for local produce and expert cooking.

Found this a bit by accident when it was difficult to get a meal in Forfar and it was well worth the short drive. A really friendly greeting, interesting menu, comfortable ambience and great quality cooking. Will be back when next in the area.

This was our first visit to Armstrong’s restaurant and we opted for a high tea. We all enjoyed our main meals of butter chicken, steak & ale pie and fish & chips. What a great place this has become. Visited here on Sunday for dinner with family and safe to say we were not disappointed. Scallops were to die for and cooked to perfection. Staying in Kirriemuir with my fiancé I booked Armstrong’s when researching good places to eat out and we were not disappointed with Armstrongs! We booked for a Wednesday which happened to be steak night where each week a new cut of steak is on the menu for £10. This week was sirloin and very tasty with a rich thick peppercorn sauce to compliment. Starters of freshly caught scallops & filo pastry’s stuffed with haggis and a spicy plum and whiskey sauce and deserts of sticky toffee pudding and dark chocolate torte completed the evening. The restaurant had all required COVID measures in place and was busy (with distancing) through out which made the atmosphere great!Highly recommended and would go back in a heart beat!

We had the most amazing, delicious meal last night. Not been for a very long time due to current situation. The choices available were plenty to satisfy everyone! The service was brilliant and delivered by friendly staff with plenty banter and nothing was to much bother. Can’t recommend it enough.

Booked for my wife and family as a special birthday meal as part of our two-week tour of Scotland over the summer holidays. Don't be put off by the setting of a pebble-dashed building on a caravan site. The food was phenomenal. We were in a conservatory area and the service was exceptionally polite. We had a fairly early table at 7.30 and it was almost empty when we left. The monkfish and steaks were exceptional and at a very good price. We attended some lovely fine dining settings over our two week break, but Armstrongs was the best food, without a doubt.

Absolutely fantastic service and the food was......... wow. Pigeon breast starters then monk fish mains followed up with a lovely cocktail. No complaints here. I only try what is for me new tastes ‘like the monk fish and pigeon breasts’ in a good restaurant. I can only say fabulous experience.

Had an excellent sunday lunch with five of us all having the carvery. Delicious roast beef,turkey and gammon with a great choice of vegetables , potatoes and yorkshire puddings. Turned up without a booking for Sunday lunch, obviously a very popular spot but we managed to be squeezed in. Carvery option slected and it was first class, obvious care taken in the preperation and everything presented spot on. A whole turkey on the carvery is an unusual sight, normally crowns in use but the chef is in at six am to put the bird in the oven ready for lunch. The carvery was very good but the desserts surpassed it, beautifully presented and well balanced and thought out puddings, photo's attached.Lovely staff, nice venue, worth seeking out and probably worth booking on a Sunday.

We were staying at the campsite next door and for a treat We went for high tea (which they were happy to serve to us at the later time of 7pm) It doesn’t look much from the outside but once inside it’s adorable. The Lovely log stove and candles makes such a lovely cozy atmosphere . We had 5 kids with us and they couldn’t have made us feel more at home . Nothing was too much trouble . The food , service and wine was awesome and it was extremely reasonably priced , at £14.95 for toast, tea , main meal (very generous portion ) and a tower of cakes and scones to finish was incredible . Would highly recommend and can’t wait to go back .

This restaurant is absolutely fabulous. The staff are welcoming and friendly. We have returned to this restaurant several times and make a point of booking early for special occasions. The food is to die for with an excellent choice to suit all tastes. The ambience is intimate,welcoming and cosy. You will not be disappointed here.

I had the sea bass main course and was blown away by the flavours. The other two members of our party had steak, one rare and one well done - both cooked perfectly to their tastes. This is a small and cosy little restaurant next to a caravan park. Went here based on reviews which are mostly positive. The staff were polite if not overly friendly or indeed welcoming. There were a couple of youngsters who tried very hard. The portions are not over generous and some of what we had didn’t live up to expectations. The food wasn’t horrid but it wasn’t great. It’s not easy to get to from Forfar or Kirriemuir if you wish to have a wine with your meal.

My family booked this restaurant for a birthday celebration and what a fantastic time we had. The restaurant and bar area is decorated in a lovely, warm and welcoming style. We were shown to out table promptly and given our food menus but no drinks menu. Quickly rectified but maybe more time should be given to select drinks. The scallops were amazing and most definitely the best I have ever had!! The steaks again were simply mouth watering and cooked to perfection. All the food was beautifully presented making the whole experience truly enjoyable and memorable. Highly recommend and will be returning very soon.

Wow. What a gem of a restaurant. We walked in to a cosy, Scottish themed dining area, equipped with a roaring fire and added Christmas sparkle. The staff were very friendly and attentive. The food was exquisite. We had the Christmas set menu and we couldn't fault it. Delicious Turkey, all the trimmings, cooked and presented perfectly. We appreciated the thoughtful coffees to end a wonderful meal, thank you. I will be recommending Armstrong's to everyone who will listen!!

If you need dinner as you drive up to Aberdeen this is well worth a short detour. We found it through TripAdvisor and we will definitely return as we travel this route again. A lovely log fire, warm and comfortable ambience, attentive staff and good food with generous portions. What is not to like ?

While visiting Kirriemuir for a few days we had an excellent meal here while enjoying the friendly relaxed atmosphere. The Angus beef was especially good and the fireplace a treat.

We dined at Armstrong's for both nights, high tea and dinner, following evening. This was for my sister, Pam's birthday. Excellent service, the decor and comfort were exceptional. The staff very friendly and understanding of our "oldest child". He is after all mid seventies but can be seen as considerably younger.

There is very little I can say about Armstrong's without repetition because it was simply outstanding. The food was excellent and because the portions are very large I opted for 2 starters which if often a problem in restaurants but not here where the customer comes first. My scallops were marvellous as were all the meals. This was a special occasion because our daughter and her husband were visiting from Cardiff and they echoed my sentiments that the food was outstanding. The waitresses were professional and helpful and took a genuine interest in what we were ordering. Service was prompt despite the Restaurant being busy.

This is my 5th visit and every time I’ve been bowled over with the food on offer, most if not all locally sourced also the staff couldn’t be more helpful or attentive

This is a small intimate establishment with fantastic food and a great atmosphere. We had the high tea and was lovely with proper tasting homemade chips! The service was excellent and we were treated with respect. My daughter is autistic and they just took this in their stride. The cakes for dessert are delicious! I would highly recommend it!

Went here for a family meal. For a Monday night it was surprisingly busy; i think it is quite popular with visitors to the local caravan site.

Yesterday evening with two very dear friends, we crossed the threshold of this fine restaurant again, on their Steak Night, and ordered the bare essentials of Two Sauces, Mushroom and Pepper, and two fried eggs along with our main meal. We hada bottle of wine, the House Shiraz was first class, some table tap-water and awaited our Steak Platter. Served by the lovely Ruth, and attended by two other girls who seemed keen to find out what we thought of our meal ... and who were thrilled to find our unanimous and hearty responses which ranged from Fab to Impeccable with Lovely and Great in the by-ga-in.

Ok, so don't be put off by the location.... it is on a caravan park. Missed the sign for the restaurant first time, and had to swing round. Pulling in to the car park my girls were a bit worried!
