Fantastic hotel in Kirkcudbright with friendly and welcoming hosts. Great food in the restaurant and breakfast was generous and well cooked. The owners were very helpful and the place is spotless. Highly recommended small hotel in lovely part of Scotland.

Stayed for two nights, had never been to the area before. Contacted the hotel as we would be arriving after the restaurant had closed, but they stayed open for us. Had a full selection and specials. Enjoyed it so much that we made a reservation for the following night. Breakfast was off a menu, just pick what you want, full waitress service.

Went here on the 13th March 2024,and what a beautiful place where to start, booking in very easy no problems whatsoever went up to room no 17 first floor I think one of the cleanest rooms I’ve ever been in,a big room one king bed and a single bed with en suite that you could take your dinner off it was that clean. The staff were excellent especially Jackie who we had a good wee chat with at dinner which again was first class as was breakfast.Would recommend this hotel To any one.Ounce again thanks for a great time

From the moment we arrived until the moment we left the owners of this hotel couldn’t have been nicer and always on hand if you needed anything. We had a lovely spacious room overlooking a field with horses and a very quiet road. Slept well. Breakfast both days were delicious, various cereals, fruit juices, yogurts and fresh fruit to choose from as well as a choice of items for a cooked breakfast. Dairy free alternatives available on request. Lost a point for dinner, I had fish and chips, being beside the sea I thought the fish would have been fresh but it was a frozen brand and not the best. The hotel is around 30 minutes walk from Kirkcudbright, a nicer walk along the river. Kirkcudbright itself is beautiful, lovely walks, buildings etc, places to eat, coffee shops and pubs. If you have a car you could visit the many beaches in the area, we visited a few and they were beautiful and peaceful. If I am down in that area again I would definitely stay in the Arden House Hotel, their hospitality would be hard to beat. 100% recommend.

We stayed overnight for our wedding anniversary and had a lovely time. The room had distant views over the river, was comfortable and well appointed. All of the staff were very friendly and helpful. We actually ate from the Senior Citizens set menu, whch was 3 courses for £10.75, and whilst the portions weren't huge, they were more than acceptable, freshly cooked and very tasty. During the sunny evening we lost count of the bunnies on the lawn. Breakfast the next morning was also very good with cereal, yughurt, fruit juice, porridge, toast and a full cooked breakfast to choose from. I would have no hesitation in recommending the hotel to others.

Arden House is a fabulous old building from the early 1700s set in beautiful gardens with nice views and ample parking. Although a little way out of town, the walk along the river was flat, easy and very pleasant. Breakfast included a wide choice of hot and cold dishes and was first class. The room was very comfortable and Leah was a lovely host. Who could ask for more!

We had a superior room with a river view which was very comfortable. The breakfasts were good and really set us up for the day.! We were pleasantly surprised with the Senior Citizens' menu. I have seen that some people have suggested that the food is all prepared from frozen. All I can say is 'what do you expect for the price?' Three courses for less than £10 is very good value. My partner chose not to have chips with his meal one day and did not want potatoes in any other form so his bill was reduced - unbelievable and very fair! Even the drinks prices are very reasonable. We will definitely be staying here again.

The hotel is around a mile out of town (best to drive as the walk is uninteresting and parking is no problem) and it makes a good first impression with a sweeping drive up to the historic property. Inside it was deserted and less appealing on impact. The dining room is nice, and the waitresses were nice too although clearly raw, but our wedding party of nine (from five countries) were there for an evening meal and we were very disappointed - all cooked from frozen, I guess. There were few clean plates at the end. I asked for chicken curry but only if it could be spiced up, and the one served was extremely bland and the rice was no better. A pity as the hotel has the potential to be so much better.

I booked this hotel because of the car park. When I entered the hotel I was greeted by the owner, Billy who was so helpful. My room was lovely and after showering i went down to dinner. on the menu i had Haggis to start and as i've never had it before and also after listening to the waitress i decided to try it. Wow it was awsome and for my mains i had the surf and turf which also was amazing the steak was cooked, just the way i like it, medium rare. I didn't have room for a pudding. so i finished my drink and went out for a walk. i slept really well and in the morning had a lovely breakfast. I felt very at home and comfortable at the Arden House Hotel and if I'm travelling through that part of scotland again i will defiantly book it again.

We stayed here, as a quick sleep over as we were attending a wedding a few miles up the road. We arrived early hoping to change, but alas as they had been fully booked the night previously, this option was not available to us. Keys were collected for later and once travelled. Later, we returned and found the room very comfortable, with adequate facilities required for a one night stay. I ventured to the bar and found the staff very friendly and highly efficient. I the morning, breakfast was a real feast, with us both electing the full cooked option which was first class. The menu was extensive and although we did not have an evening meal, there was considerable choice. On the practical side, COVID measures were very evident, with most people adhering to these. We enjoyed our brief stay, it was certainly good value-for money, with local amenities fairly close by.

Went for a friends party. We pre ordered since she had to order lactose free. We ordered garlic mushrooms both to start, mine came, very vinegary and disgusting couldn’t even eat it. Then hers were so thick in cream you couldn’t even look at it without feeling sick. Then I ordered steak - medium rare , which came completely cremated. Ew!! So I asked to get a medium rare stake which I again got given a well done steak. I had about 3 mouthfuls. And for the whole meal for me I paid £18. + drinks. Waste of money. Although I never even ate 1/4 of the plate I was charged full price. I won’t be back!

This isn't the first time that we have visited this Hotel as we had been there in the past at formal meetings and events. This might be the first time that we visited just for a little luncheon. The Hotel provides a Pensioners lunch menu, which we decided to take advantage from. My Wife as usual had the one course, since she doesn't eat large portions, but the offering was sufficient for a pensioner meal. I of course took the dessert on offer and was well and truly satisfied with my meal. It is not an expensive lunch and the food was well cooked, hot and served efficiently by the staff.

Lunch here was not good at all. From one member of staff holding glasses by the rim whilst serving, not washing hands after handling money and when food arrived cold plates and very little thought in the cooking process. Its Good to visit a place that does quality basic food. Pate for myself, very flavoursome, although a salad is served with it a chutney might have been a better option. Then it was cod goujons with dip also side of veg/chips, wife had chicken goujons as a starter, then lasagne. There a specials board, alongside a good lunch/evening menu, and they also do a great value for the over 65's. If your visiting or staying at the arden house, the foods basic, but its good food. We had a superb midweek supper here with friends in November. Bit of a trek from Dumfries but well worth the visit, and even closer to the M74 for anyone travelling up to Scotland in need of a refreshment. The haggis bites were delicious and the lamb kleftiko simply melted in the mouth. Their Chilean SB was extremely gluggable and very reasonably priced. Abbey and Jack were the best hosts.
