Apadana in Kensington and Chelsea

Amazed by the generosity of the staff, home made food , taste great , fresh and reasonable prices being in one of the top areas in London , Kensington

There has been a change of proprietors. We have been very disappointed with the grilled fish which did not have a good fresh taste. Nothing comparable we have had with the the grilled fish one year ago with the previous owners.

I ordered food from Uber Eats, so part of the reason for this review is Ubers fault. However, the way it was dealt with by the restaurant is the reason why I can not give more than 1 star. Having ordered from Uber, the Uber app decided to send the food to an address a long way from my home, this was an error by Uber. However, I immediately called them to notify the restaurant that this food would not be received at the address and I was told that they could not change it. I was then charged £50 by uber saying that the restaurant had proceeded to make the food, despite knowing that I was going to cancel the order, just seconds after receiving it. Therefore, if they made the food, which I highly doubt, they would have been stupid to do so. They clearly did not make the food, but took advantage anyway and billed the full amount. When I spoke to the restaurant the manager claimed that he could not understand me or my wife and that we should find someone who spoke English better in order for them to hear my complaint. This was clearly a stalling tactic in order for them to process the order from Uber. For clarity, we are both English! It was incredibly rude and I feel that we have been robbed by this restaurant. I will await compensation and suggest that I am refunded, or the order can be processed at no cost in the future.

A little gem of a restaurant in South Kensington. Food was amazing, friendly staff. Would recommend the flatbread, you’ll see it being made as you enter!

The quality of the food was terrible and far too expensive anyway. The Koubideh kebab tasted very strange and half the usual size . The Barg kebab was simply too tough. Suitable for wolves.

Purchased a meal that was stated at £24. I received some white rice and a tomato. There was a slice of kebab meat and a piece of bread. It was the type of thing you get after a night out for £5. As a £24 meal was ludicrous. I wont be back and I hope I can stop others making the same unfortunate mistake.

I had a really nice time with a friend at this restaurant. The atmosphere is nice and the experience is memorable. The food is very good. The kebab I tried was good. The keema sauce with the fluffy rice was exceptional. Thank you

The staff at Apadana was very welcoming and accommodating, as we arrived just 20 minutes before they closed. The food was great, especially the fresh bread.

We left the exhibition centre tired and hungry. Suddenly there was a small restaurant with an open front and cafe tables. It has been a warm day. The service was a bit slow as the boss said staff had shown up. He was running from table to table and the making the breads in the fire. The Iranian food was great. Starters we had never had before and a substantial main dish. The waiter was friendly and encouraged us to try Iranian tea and gave us a number of little cakes and sweets after we had already paid! Little gesture like this make you feel welcome and want to write a review. Cost was very reasonable and good value. Thank you. Jonathan

Dirty tables, knife and fork looked like a shovel cheap and nasty. Staff rushed and didn’t have time to take orders properly. Food was barley warm. Dry rice . A novice making bread at the oven and dropping oven lead on the floor with massive banging noise. It is not a resturant is a soup kitchen for the homeless.

We were staying at a nearby hotel and thought we would try some foods we had never experienced before. We could not have been happier with our meal at Apadana, with the food so fresh, well presented and tasty. This place will definitely be getting a return visit from us to try some of the other dishes on offer.

I saw this restaurant from a bus and was immediately attracted by its colourful ambience. The owner was welcoming and found me a nice table by a French window, just right on a hot evening. The food and drink however was a bit of a disappointment. The interesting fruit juices were not available so I ended up with Vimto. I ordered lamb shank with tomato sauce and vegetable rice. The lamb shank was good but the tomato sauce had less flavour than I was expecting. There was a enormous amount of rice, far too much to get through. The food was more expensive than I would usually pay and I didn't feel it was worth the price. The restaurant was blessedly quiet without any canned music and the staff were very nice.

This Ghastly dump of a restaurant literally STINKS and smells like an open RANCID SEWER!! The place is utterly swarming with Flies that buzz in and out of place!! As for the food that is well over priced and tastes like salted RUBBER!! My advice is too stay well clear of this smelly dump of a restaurant!!

We hadn't been here for a while, but were delighted to find that it was still up to standard. All reasonable hygiene precautions seem to have been taken. The staff will advise you concerning unfamiliar dishes and there's plenty of them! Fesenjan and koobideh went down very well and Persian tea was a fine way to end (we had no room for dessert!) It's also very handy for the railway station...

The best place I have ever been the Food was amazing and the place is very clean ! staff was very kind especially Mr Hadir was very welcoming and had great customer service! Will come back again 5star

Do not eat there ! The food is nice but the service is awful. The waitress does not wear a mask during Covid-19, does not right down the orders therefore she forgot one of the item ordered and did not even notice. Then the dessert menu was not proposed to us. In addition she did not bring the bill to us and left us unattended. After quite some time, we decided to leave and go towards the cash register. The waitress had already printed the bill and added a tip for an inexistent customer service performance of us. She give us the bill while being on the phone. Let me add that it did not seem like she was on the phone with a customer. Thankfully we had the tip removed by someone who seems to be the owner but he did not even bother to ask why. He was very nonchalant. Eating there left a bitter taste in our mouths.

Koobideh kebab was tasteless, I usually enjoy iranian koobideh however this one was so tasteless I didnt bother to attempt eating it after the first bite. Rice was ok and fresh.

PLEASE don't bother ordering from this restaurant. Nothing we ordered from the restaurant was edible and we couldn't even go beyond finishing the first bite. Horrible, tasteless, substandard quality food.

Very low quality and small portions from my takeout order . I tried Salad -e-Oliveh and Joojeh Sultani There are top notch Persian restaurant in London but definitely this is not one of them .

It is supposed to be an iranian resturant but it’s really an iraqi Resturant doing iranian dishes but iraqi style , not my favourite iranian resturant in london

Its one of oldest persian restaurant in london and One of the Best Persian restaurants in the UK. kubide are so delicious. Very good staff and pleasant environment. But ... Fake Saffron Rice !!

Attentive service for a late lunch (2:30). Watched the bread being rolled out and placed in the oven. Mains distinctive and full of flavour, generous portion sizes.

we discovered Apadana on a trip to London and we were delighted with the proper authentic persian food and the upscale crowd. service is top notch and they have live persian music on weekends. everybody starts dancing by 9pm :)

We had a short visit to London. Spotted this Gem Restaurant, great service and very reasonable prices, food and the appetizer was served quick and a big portion couldn't finish all. We will back again next trip.

I love this place. The food here is unbelievable. I tried this place when i was a child and it is just as wonderful as it is today. The lamb is so tender, the fresh bread they make in front of you. The juices are freshly squeezed and they are so affordable. I couldn't believe the bill when it cam. Its so fair and decent. There us a live Jazz player which brightened up the mood. I have to come here once every week at least.

The certainly pack the tables in here, but the food is very good, and fairly reasonably priced. Pleasant atmosphere with a saxophonist playing near the entrance.

This is the worst Persian restaurant I ever been, and really This respect, food were absolutely bad , and really expensive and very little food.

They now charge for the bread and the restaurant is so squeezed.

Me and my husband had plan to end our trip to London with a Parisian meal. We picked this restaurant and we were really disappointed! The kebab test and qualify had nothing to do with Persian kitchen at all!! And rice was really dry abd i think it was belong to one week ago.

Very beautiful decor. Charming and a bit romantic. The food was amazing and the staff was good. Next time I will try the shesha. Beautiful ambiance.

My Wife and I chanced upon 'Apadana' and visited. The food we ordered was excellant the Staff very attentive and the atmosphere relaxing. We have been back several times even taken Family Members and friends and they all enjoyed the food etc. On the Saturday evenings that we have been there a saxophone plater was playing back ground music.

View of restaurant was great but food was not testy. Kashke bademjon was not fresh and warm and koobideh was not test good. Hope next if coming there I will have different experience.

The place is pretty. The service is excellent - particularly Mr Haidar is very friendly and welcoming. The food comes in big portions. Highly recommended.

Generous portion of rice & boneless chicken but dry and tasteless. I kept buttering it up, which did absolutely no good! Tasty lentil soup. And the bread? It was warm, freshly baked and fluffy but salty! Not exactly a good dining experience!

So enjoyed this! Really special and loved the Iranian food. Sometimes they even have belly dancing and music so must come back for that! A Great evening, thank you.

Recommended by an Iranian friend and visited whilst staying at a nearby Hotel and loved it. We started with the Ghasem (an aubergine dish - a bit like a dip which we had with their freshly baked flat bread. They bake this in a charcoal pit which is seperate to the main kitchen - in the main restaurant itself. For our main dish we had Chenjeh (our meal is pictured) a delicious marinated lamb fillet dish with rice and salad. Everything tasted very fresh and beautifully seasoned. It all came together but that made it even more fun! We finished with a pot of Iranian Tea - kept hot on a candle base! Lots of locals and very polite and friendly service.

My friend and I ate in here on our first night. The food looked really good but my friend's chicken dish was way too sweet, she also found what looked like a stone from an apricot. My lamb dish was nice but quite gloopy. I also don't like tips being added to the bill. Surely that's my choice whether to tip or not. On this occasion I would because the service was really good.

Ambos estaban deliciosos, deliciosos y cocinados a la perfección. Se servían con arroz y ensalada de azafrán. Estaba cansado después de una larga caminata, pero no pude resistirme y comí la comida por completo. Teníamos "mirza ghasemi" para los entrantes y también estaba delicioso. La ubicación era buena. This is was a quite expensive restaurant.The rice was tasty but the kebabs were not bad nor very good. After we paid the bill I noticed they have charged us for more stuff than we ordered and there was a " Optional service charge of %10" at the end. The waiters were arguing most of the time around us which made me feel a bit uncomfortable.

Food was cold , quick, tasteless. We eat out a lot but the food here had absolutely no taste made me feel sick. Waste of money. Don’t go here.

Excelente servicio, gran ambiente, comida muy sabrosa, me encantó. La comida salió muy rápido. Haider fue nuestro camarero por la noche y brindó un excelente servicio y estuvo muy atento a todas nuestras necesidades. Among the better Middle Eastern restaurants that we have ever eaten at. Service was great. There is an interesting historical marker about Jack the Ripper outside on the building.

No visit to london is ever complete without dining at Apadana the oldest iranian restaurant in London. Made to order bread and great selection of persian classic dishes and grills. Must try when in london :)

Ordered via uber eats and called to adjust the order 2 mins after it was made. Exceptionally rude, bad mannered manager would not accommodate the request and proceeded to hang up. Food was just as bad. They have no idea about customer service and I will not be going back there.

We were very disappointed with our visit as the food was nothing special and even poor ,my partner had stomach pain the next day as a result. The rice was terribly smelly like cheap Thai rice and not Iranian rice. No saffron and it was all food colouring. Koobideh, Jooje and Chenjeh were all disappointing. Having said the cons, the naan bread and the waiting staff were very nice and the 2 stars are only for these. Not going back though.

The quality of the food just about compensated for the poor service (some of the staff seemed far to busy to look after customers)!

We ordered delivery from this restaurant and food arrived hot and well packaged. The taste of the food was very authentic and delicious. The kebabs were will prepared and grilled and the rice was cooked perfectly.

The food here is lovely....only problem is it's too oily! Other than that it is perfect, the staff are amazing too - so friendly and sweet. I'll definitely be back and would recommend to everyone

Been going to Apadana for years. Never disappoints us. Service, food and prices are the best in the area.

A very disappointing restaurant. The manager or owner was doing her best but the waiters were rude and seemed to be unenthusiastic doing basic things. The food especially the baby chicken cubes was burnt and the rest of the items were so bland. I prefer kish in Maida Vale. It’s the closest to Persian home cooked meals.

Just like MOST HALAL restaurants in London, when it is under new management, the restaurant becomes way more smelly, hence the prices go up and the quality of the food goes DOWN!! And the Apadana is a perfect example of this restaurant clause, the quality of the food & service has gone astronomically DOWN HILL!!

Como una introducción a mi hijo comida persa, no podría haber elegido mejor. Ambos teníamos diferentes platos de cordero, que compartimos. Tanto deliciosa y se sirve con abundante arroz. El helado con pistachos y agua de rosas era fabuloso. Domingo por la noche un d el lugar parecía lleno cuando nos fuimos, pero el servicio era impecable y amable sin embargo. Lo recomiendo encarecidamente.

Solía comer aquí más de 25 años atrás, cuando vivía en Londres. En Londres ahora por un par de días y decidimos probar de nuevo con un grupo de 12 amigos y familiares. Comunicación por correo electrónico antes de llegar en el REINO UNIDO fue rápido y preciso. Nos ofrecieron una comida de precio fijo que incluye entrantes fríos y calientes, mezclados grill, 2 guisados, arroz, pan y refrescos y té seguido por el desierto. Muy buena relación calidad-precio y un montón de sobras después de varias adolescentes comimos. Servicio de amigos y una noche maravillosa. Mis hijos ya están pidiendo volver antes de marcharnos.

Descubrimos este restaurante justo a la vuelta de la esquina de nuestro hotel (ya que estábamos buscando más tarde en la noche).

La comida era deliciosa. Una advertencia de que el tamaño de las porciones son muy grandes para las principales comidas. Teníamos su 5 entradas meze y luego dos platos principales entre nosotros tres y eso fue más que suficiente! Aunque todos muy deliciosos.

Éramos un grupo de 7 personas que reservó una mesa de Sábado 5 de mayo. En la página web decía la danza del vientre y música en vivo conseguimos un chico siendo un dj en un portátil y cuando él sonaba horrible. sung Nos dieron la comida tanta prisa ni siquiera terminar nuestra entrada nos principales. Todavía teníamos la bebida en los vasos y algunos de nosotros todavía estaba comiendo nuestro platos. Luego enseguida nos dieron una mano y empezaba a limpiar nuestro hoover mesa. Tuve que hablar estrictamente a la camarera que esperar hasta que nos hemos ido en la cima teníamos camareros nos mantenga glancing cada 2 minutos por qué no dejando ni la no estaba lleno. No te molestes postre. Nunca volveré a este restaurante grosero de nuevo. Sólo una camarera femenino era amable y pidiendo disculpas.

Friendly service, authentic Persian food, reasonable prices. A bit loud when the singer is in, but otherwise enjoyable atmosphere.

I could not fault service, maybe because my friend of my parents knew him as he is local now, but I doubt that as I watched them giving good/friendly service to all others, I really enjoyed the ochre stew, and thanks for the extras, I look forward to coming back, to the owner I was the person who showed you tin 1982he picture of my parents friend when he had a moustache in 1982

Great service and food!! Mohammad was great and very helpful! There was a lady that had just started and was really helpful. In general the staff were incredible!!

Was passing by, hungry and on my own, on a work trip staying close by. Loved the chicken with pomegranate and berries. Food and service were excellent. Lovely Turkish coffee and sweet accompaniment. Hope to be in the area again to sample other dishes.

We visited Apadana last week. The meal was ok, but was rather bland. Service was reasonable and the cost not exorbitant but all in all pretty average. I would not re visit.

if you want to experience delicious persian food and excellent hospitality then visit Apadana. We have been regular customers for over 30 years and have celebrated Birthdays and Anniversarys there much to our satisfaction. Mr Hayder Al - Lami and his team are always very welcoming and friendly. They deliver a great service both for eating in the reastaurant or for take away. We love the place!!

This is an unusual find - just in town on business and eating alone - came across this small restaurant with a tandoori oven in the front of the eating area - chef on duty turning out Persian flat bread to order.Friendly service - I ordered grilled aubergne starter which was delicately spiced and went well with the freshly made bread. Seabass was spiced aand cooked perfectly - I had salad instead of the rice and they provided a very pleasant pomegranate dressing.

The food was authentic and tasty. I enjoyed the music and atmosphere. The fresh bread was absolutely delicious.

I went with my girlfriend for the first time to Apadana. From the pictures the restaurant looked good as well as the food. Unfortunately it was not like that.The waiters they were very unkind, they didn' t explain the menu, they had very unhappy faces as well as they always talked between then in their own language.The food in the average but I can say that I had better quality in other places for a better price.The restaurant in itself is not nice as it seems from the pictures. It is also very small and they squeezed to many seats in such narrow space: every time someone walked behind me, he hit my chair...so annoying Big surprise at the end: 12 pounds for 2 bottle of waters! Ia a theft!

I see the last review for this restaurant is by myself from nearly a year ago. Again, this year, on our way back to the US from summer holidays, we swung by this place for its mouth watering Persian food. The only reason I gave 4 stars was because of some initial confusion regarding seating assignment. The food was great again. We were surprised by a DJ and belly dancing performance. Of note the performer did a good job of keeping it PG 13. Overall we had an enjoyable night.

The food didn't taste Persian. The rice wasn't cooked. The chicken tasted like plastic and the meat was burnt! The service was poor. The waiter picked up a spoon from the floor and returned it without wash for serving! The music was awful :(((( I am not even sure the cook was Persian. it was very pricey and please avoid it at all costs. There are other Persian Restaurants in London that you can taste authentic tastes of Persia!

Great tasting authentic food, with great friendly staff are amazing couldn't ask for better atmosphere. One thing they need to extend their wine list for more wine selection. However food hygiene atmosphere you can't fault the place at all

No words can describe this delightful experience. Go there and you will not be disappointed, regardless of what you order. We tried three different dishes (there were 3 of us), and all were delicious. Very generous portions, the leftovers were good enough for another meal the next day. Make sure you get the entree with tarragon, white cheese, mint & walnut. Try the bread, for sure. And whatever you do try their most scrumptious ice cream. Waiting staff multilingual, very friendly and most definitely attentive. Our server was Ismail, and he was delightful. Will I go again? At these moderate prices, you bet I would. On High Street Kensington and easily accessible by plenty of busses.
