We were a group of relaxed locals (all around 30yo) who went for dinner here and there was no one else in the restaurant all evening. There is a lady there who ruined our evening, as she is extremely bossy, rude and deceitful. From the moment we stepped in, she saw us an opportunity to pinch every penny. When I tried to order what I wanted (the cheapest grill on the menu Koobideh - as I usually like it) she tried her hardest to insist I order something else more expensive. I had to beg to just be allowed to order what I wanted. The same went for starters. She insisted that SHE order the starters for the group and that we would love it. The ''starters'' consisted of the worst hommous I've ever tasted and a few other boring dips with a stingy serving of bread on the side. What Middle Eastern place is ever stingy with the bread they provide? The dips were so average that none of them were finished. I will say the meals were delivered quickly, but then again there was no-one else in the restaurant. My koobideh was awful. The meat was full of fat and very bland. Had to cover it with chilli sauce and salt in order to get some flavour. Salad was limp iceberg lettuce with 1 stingy slice of tomato in them. The rice was nice thank goodness. No table water was ever offered to us, but of course there was room temp bottled water placed on the tables, in the hope you get so thirsty you open them and spend more. The worst bit was when we came to pay. SHE would not give our table a bill, but rather came over and declared that she had decided we could all split the bill evenly (even though she knew nothing about us, and some had drinks, others didnt have starters etc etc). Again, i had to beg for the bill in order to pay for what I ordered. She did not give us the bill but insist I look at the menu and calculate it myself!!!! What kind of restaurant does not give you the bill??? The kind of restaurant that does not want you to see they deceitfully added items we didn't order to the bill! After everyone paying the bill inclusive of service charge, we somehow ended up £35 short on the bill!! (This never happens to our group, we usually always put in more over and above the service charge and get change delivered.) She raised her voice at us, got up in everyones face and delayed our departure by about 15 minutes due to her arguing. She generally ruined what was meant to be a lovely evening to say goodbye to a friend. I've lived in the area for 10 years and there are literally dozens of place that you can get quality Middle Eastern food, like Turkish Fez down the road or Iranian Patogh's or Lebanese Al Arez instead. They are all 1/3 of the price, with amazing food and no money-hungry monster at the front door. No wonder there was no-one else in the restaurant.

We went there for lunch . The good waa good . I recommend "Tahdig with ghormeh Zanzibar" . I had better kebideh in other resturant but the kitchen on the bone was very nice . The sever was trying to be helpful but she could not speak Persian and English was not her first language . She was very sweet and apologised for her mistakes but did get our order wrong . They fixed it fast enough but I believe the business will benefit from a Persian/ English speaking server . She told us that she had been told by the kitchen people not to accept any deviation from the menu but we were just asking for mix and match of the foods in the menu and not a massive alteration . But still enjoyed the food and if I am in the area I will go there again

We had a late supper here sitting outside on a warm May evening. We had a selection of Mazzeh to start. The Sabzi Khordan was especially good. We had mixed grill for two for our main. Tender meat, fresh salad and amazing rice. Lots of food - took leftovers home and had them for dinner the following night. Good service. Helpful staff. Great food!

This was my first time eating Iranian food, and it won’t be the last. Everything was delicious, from the Kashkeh Bademjan appetizer, which was a puree of sautéed zucchini, garlic, walnuts, mint and onion. to the mixed said with pomegranate, feta cheese, and olives, through to the Ghormehsabzi, which was a lamb stew with kidney beans and dried lime in a deep sauce made of finely chopped herbs. The lamb was fall-apart tender, and there was plenty of it. Altogether, a satisfying meal!

Really enjoyed our meal...very generous portion size, verging on over generous. Excellent taste and cooked to perfection. Very good price for London and in a great location. Great decor however the ambience was disturbed by the music stopping and starting. Staff was friendly and welcoming....attentive to our needs. Would definitely visit again.

This was such a disappointment. The portion sizes make no sense ... lamb and aubergine stew with only three chunks of lamb and mountains of rice. Shredded lamb which turned up looking, honestly, like cat food with an accompanying sauce which was boiling hot, slightly oily and little flavour. Our starter was advertised as feta with walnuts and herbs ... well I suppose that strictly that was true, but a tiny piece of feta dumped on a plate with random fresh herbs a few walnuts, a spring onion and no dressing of any sort ... bizarre. Very shortly we were the only diners in there on a Sunday lunchtime, I'm afraid I'm not surprised.

This was recommended to me by friends. I love dining out and love Iranian food. Sadly, Anar failed on every level in my experience. I went with 2 friends from Norway who had never tried Persian food. I was embarrassed that this was their first experience of what is otherwise simply amazing cuisine, however, certainly not here. We were seated by a window and next to the entrance, with a cold breeze throughout. There was a fireplace but this kept the staff warm by the till area at the other end of the restaurant. We asked for the cocktail list, having heard of their famous fresh pomegranate/vodka cocktail. The waitress seemed not to understand and then brought her manager over. He explained that they no longer do this or any other cocktails, so we asked for the wine list. We were told there was no wine list but that they would bring the two types of red that they serve to show us the label (!), we selected the cabernet sauvignon, and what we got was the Merlot - this was not even on their list of choices! I ordered the Taftoon bread (this is Iranian bread), to accompany our starters, and the waitress did not know what this was and referred to it as naan bread. Starters were passable, but tiny portions. After this we were hounded every 5 minutes by either one of two of the waiting staff as to whether we had finished our starters. We were pressured to order the main, which not only took a long time, but came to us cold (cold grilled meats/rice). After just 10 minutes of us eating, the same two waitresses took turns to ask us if we had finished when it was evident we had not (we were eating and food was on all the plates!). I went to the ladies toilets which were filthy. The plastic flooring was coming undone and exposed with nothing but dirt showing, and an unexplained burnt out candle. This was not a pleasurable experience in any sense - terrible service, staff not trained correctly, and freezing cold. If you want good Iranian food with expert staff and fresh hot food, go to Alounak in Russell Gardens, Olympia. It even has a BYOB policy and no corkage!

After a long day out with my family of 7 on the portobello road market we decided that we needed somewhere to eat and relax, after a few clicks online we found that Anar Persian kitchen was relatively close to us so we made our way to the restaurant. We were greeted by high quality staff who looked very smart and formal, and we instantly felt a sense of comfort due to the environment of the restaurant, we came in and we were met by three large chandeliers and a beautiful wallpaper covering the walls in gold giving us a sense of the high class food that we were to expect. We sat down and we were handed menus and we gave our order to the waitress, she took out order and took no time to bring us our starters and our drinks, we then got our main courses shortly after which were absolutely delicious, which we were not expecting, we never knew that Persian food was so nice until we tried it, after we finished our food we were given dessert sweets on the house and we really enjoyed those, overall we experienced an atmosphere in this restaurant that we have never experienced before in any restaurant and I would recommend this to anyone as they cater for everyone with loads of different types of food.

We were staying around that area and were thinking either go to Pizza East or try something new. We decided to give it a go.It was quite a cold night so we ordered a couple of stew dishes (Fesenjan and Khoreshte Bademjan) as well as dish on Sunday (Abgoosht) and Anar salad. We actually didn't know what to expect even thought there were some description on the meun. My order was Khoreshte Bademjan as I ate something really sour. I usually like sour food but I was not too sure. Turned out it was a lemon. Then I adjusted my opinion about it and thought it would be good if they mentioned it on their meun. Fesenjan was quite sweet but I liked it more. The Sunday dish was interesting.I was still hungry after the main so I ordered Baghlava. It was lovely. The service was good and they were willing to spend some time to explain their food. The price was reasonable and we were really pleased that we tried something new that night. If you have never had Persian food, I am highly recommended you to go for it.

Quite simply the worst Iranian food ive had in the last thirty years. I ordered six different dishes and to my surprise all six were inedible. The 'succulent' chicken pieces were so hard and dry. They were clearly left over from a few days ago. The Ash and chicken soup tasted like dishwater. There was no flavour at all. Not even salt and pepper. The stew was simply just water. The Mirza ghasemi was a tasteless mush of tomatoes. Even the salad Oliveh was dry ! All the food has gone straight in the bin and clearly its not fresh and reheated from the night or a few nights before ! I ordered from this restuarant due to the other good reviews but clearly the authenticity needs questioning.

My friend and I ordered a takeaway from Anar Persian Kitchen. The food was of a simple yet decent standard, however when we went to give the delivery man the money he simply walked off? We had our food and at around 11pm, we received a phone call enquiring why we didn't pay, almost as if we refused to, when in fact the guy wandered off. When he returned for the money, not only could he not read the bill himself but he didn't have the adequate change, so he had to go and come back. Not only was it an inconvenience at that hour, but both my friend and I now have pretty bad food poisoning which I believe to have been from that food as it was the last thing we both ate. Although that's the case, it could have been a complete one off but I thought it would be best to share my experience.

Had a lovely meal on our visit to the Anar last weekend. The food was good and plentiful - we shared a selection of starters and followed it with kebabs - great. The restaurant itself isn't traditional Persian but it is stylish with a mixture of contemporary and middle eastern. Not sure why there were so fw people eating there - altho the delivery guy seemed to be busy.We will definitely be coming back & recommending it to others :)

Excellent value for money: I've been to this restaurant several times in the last year, it's one of those places where you can bring your friends and be sure they won't be disapponited, or it's also nice for a relaxed dinner with you partner. The food is really good, there's a good choice (only note, I would add some more vegetarian options) and the staff is ofter very freindly

This restaurant clearly aims to appeal to non-Iranians. If you want good old fashion Chelo Kabab don't waste your money. Go elsewhere. Quantity and quality very poor. Straight from freezer to your lap. You've been warned.

London's heatwave was offset by a glass of the most delicious cucumber and mint concoction. I was too hot to eat (I thought) and ordered a fluffy spinach and egg dish, a finely chopped salad with feta cheese and walnuts, and baked flat bread. It was feast, served by delightful staff, with good ethnic music playing in a interesting environment. Easy to find - just find the Portobello Road and keep walking north towards the canal until you get to the last of the restaurants with a beautiful painting outside. I took a chance, I'm an artist and was on an art course in London for the week - it was the painting outside that drew me in and I'm glad I've found it. Will revisit next time I'm in London.

I notice others have not been impressed although some have look at the review stats above unusual in that eitherr love it or hate it..The food well just about edible- which is a plus, My companion was amazed at the salad dressing which she thought awful 2 large bottles larger than I have ever seen before. Larger than a bottle of wine ! One of oil and the other of vinegar and goodness knows what.My companion said it was the worst salad dressing she had seen in her life. She did not like her fish It had been well never mind but initially we were asked if we wanted it grilled or pan fried. The wine was in unusual unique glasses and for the price too little and of course vastly expensive for some very mediocre wine and my beer was OK but the wine and beer were of course too expensive which these places do because they need to pay rents and you pay more for the food but always get ripped off on the drinks.. The sweets were well for 4 pounds worth about 75 pence. sugar and ?My Meat dish we got it wrong I thought I was getting skewer but I gor a stew . worth about 1 pound cost 8.service OK but these guys did not seem to know but they were polite at least.

We went for dinner on a rather quiet Saturday night and enjoyed the food a lot - traditional Persian dishes of great quality, nice wine (although the only Persian wine on the menu was out) and lovely atmosphere. The service was quick and nice - a wonderful restaurant if you are in the area and are looking for something nice, but not too pricey.

We ordered from Anar last night and were extremely disappointed. We ordered the jooje ba ostokhoon (chicken skewers on the bone) and the barg (lamb filet). The jooje was mostly chicken wings, which traditional persian jooje never is!!! The barg did not taste fresh (in fact I don't even know if it was really lamb, as it wasn't tender) and the food in general was pretty flavourless. The food was cold when it got here, so we thought if we reheat it it might taste better- negative! The only thing that was alright was the kashke bademjan. I would not recommend this restaurant to anybody, especially if you know what Persian food is supposed to taste like!A complete waste of money. Most of the food ended up in the bin!I cannot comment on the atmosphere or service at the restaurant as we got delivery, but the man on the phone was not the most helpful or brightest, I had to repeat my address 3 times, everytime he would get it wrong again!! We also asked for somagh (seasoning you should get with chelo kabab) and got none!(Also, after this experience I am not surprised that natace got food poisoning!)

I’ve loved this restaurant since it opened in 2009. Elegant and classy, it is nonetheless easy to feel at home having a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere. I have been a fan of Persian food since I first tried to eat and pronounce it fourteen years ago, and now having tried so many places I find this is the one that has the best combination of food, service and atmosphere at the most reasonable price. New management has improved the quality of the cooking, although it was already good, now it is superb! So if you are looking for a quality but inexpensive night out (although they are opened during the daytime as well), in a refined dining atmosphere, real chandeliers, original rustic wood framed windows and floorboards, a stunning oriental golden hand painted wall frieze as background, with friendly service and a warm welcome, Anar is great value. That’s why I keep coming back!

One of the best Persian restaurants in London. The decor is modern and the style is not one you would expect from a Persian establishment, however the food 100% traditional and quality.

My boyfriend and I had seen this restaurant from the outside a number of times and thought it looked really nice although it was never busy...that should have been the warning sign! We dined there last Tuesday night and ended up developing severe food poisoning which we are still suffering from four days later. We're reporting them to the Kensington and Chelsea council in the hope that the Food Hygiene Officers will go in to inspect their kitchens as we don't want other people to get sick. I definitely do not recommend this restaurant to anyone.

We are locals and just got around to trying Anar. Fabulous. Lovely room ( it looks a little fancier from the outside -- with its chandeliers and gold leafy wallpaper -- but inside is very comfortable. But go for the food. It is delicious, and by notting hill standards, cheap. very few mains crossed the £10 threshold and that and the £9 mezze selection was more than we ( two largish boys) needed. It isn't fancy fare -- but the lamb skewers I had were marinated in something delicious and cooked perfectly, as was the chicken. and they make their own naan in a pizza oven which was thin and crispy and made us both go ymmm.

That is what the restaurant should be called as that's all they seem to have on the menu! But I'm not complaining as there was a delicious selection and I chose one with cheese, which seems like a good combination of Eastern & Western cuisine!

We had a wonderful night. In particular the food was superbly cooked and presented and plentiful. The staff were so mindful and welcoming and helpful and overall a fantastic evening all round and I highly recommend this place.

The food was just O K. The service was excellent. I was disappointed to learn that the 12.5% "discretional" service charge was not shared with staff. The best part of the visit was the service but we will NOT be back due to this unfair practice.

First of all, do not go there if you like a glass of wine with your meal… it s all alcohol free wine, beer and Spirits… what is the point of having a wine menu if it is alcohol free? You should make it clear before we book… I had just finished a 12 hours shift and could have done with wine, my partner too and our friends visiting from Belgium wanted to taste a cider…I have been living in London for 16 years and have never seen that and would not have stayed if we weren’t at peak time and starving, this was our second disappointment. Our first, I had booked a table for 07:30 pm, they had my name down on a piece of paper and the table wasn’t ready, they had to shift people around. We didn’t have to wait too long cause it was not full but still, when people book a table get it ready. Our third disappointment is the service, it was SO BAD… I was tasting this restaurant to take a group of 40 of my clients and we won’t. First, they waited over 30 minutes before taking our order… it really wasn’t that busy…I was so hungry that I would have eaten one of my friends :), a table of Pakistani arrived 10 minutes after us and their order was taken 15 minutes before we did even though we had called the waiters 3 times to take our order and were dismissed and ignored. The waiters themselves were either ignoring us or yelling and dismissing other customers. Telling you, really, really bad service. When one of them finally came to take our order, he was clearly not happy to come to us for some reason and was arguing with his colleague a minute earlier. My partner tried to order a drink and food and the waiter said : No no you order your drink first. We did then my partner started with the dish and tried to add rice and naan. The waiter said ‘ no no, first the dish for everyone, then the rice, then the naan … I mean… if a waiter cannot organise its order, not sure they should be waiting… The food, I was starving and finished my dish, it was basic. I have many Indian and Pakistani friends, I love Indian/Pakistani food and it went down as ok, just as much as a dish you would have bought at Tesco. So overall, no I will not go back. Really bad experience and I will not bring my customers there. I love food, I usually leave great reviews or do not write reviews if I had not enjoyed it but really,I think it is important to warn people, I do not recommend this place. I do not know why they don’t serve alcohol at a restaurant, not sure if it is cultural but I do not like to be imposed one’s culture in London if it is the reason why. My Muslim friends found this quite weird too… in the heart of Kensington on the top of that!
