Deliciosa comida y buen servicio.

Poor quality food and drinks at an extortionate price. Dry chewy venison, the chicken looked anemic and the haggis it was stuffed in was dry and cheap tasting. Staff off handish and snooty. The resturant smelled damp and the wedding function next door was separated with a flimsy door so we heard the du pumping away throughout out dinner. Not good

We have went here every year for last 6 years on Mother's Day, and decided to go there today- big mistake! The carvery had finished, but they said we could just have food as In a bar meal, so we said ok. There was 7 of us, but they made no effort to accomadate us with a large table, so we ended up sitting on 2 separate tables. We ordered the food at the bar, then the young girl brought them out and it looked like measly small portions of microwaved food ( we all ordered Turkey roast dinner ). The portions were terrible! Then when my wife's came out, the girl put it in front of her and my wife picked a hair out of the food and stated this was not hers- the girl seen this, but said nothing and just walked away. At no point after this did anyone come and ask if things were ok or if we wanted anything else. In the end, we were about to leave when a girl came over and said were the plates finished but again did not ask if everything was ok ( I think they knew by our comments and actions though that we weren't happy ). This has never been an issue for us in the past, but this was very poor service and quality of food for somewhere we have previously associated with good service and food. It was a waste of £70- We won't be back.

- Staff were horrible not caring or organised. - Reception weren't helpful. - Rooms were vile to say the least not clean at all. - Food was average and very overly priced. - Well over booked, very packed. - The bedroom was not comfy and squashed. - Only brilliant thing this hotel has is Laura the wedding planner. - WOULD NOT RECOMMEND ANYONE TO STAY AT THIS HOTEL!! APPARELLING!!

Whilst staying in nearby Ecclefechan, we popped into the restaurant, as I had stayed at the hotel several years ago. All I can say is that the prices have gone up and the standard of food had gone down. The food was nice, but if we had not been using my girlfriend's "2 for 1 Tastecard", it would have been a very expensive meal for a "chicken burger meal"!! Would not recommend going there.

Arrived on the 31st may 2013 we had pre booked a table, the decor was ok, the menu looked ok however that's were it all ended, I ordered the t bone steak and at £24 was not cheap! When it arrived it looked very limp and dry with a few paltry frozen chips and boiled to the death veg! My wife's roast pork looked like it had been microwaved to death, the potatoes were hard and smelt funny, however after I complained my wife got another meal which was slightly better, the staff were nice throughout and gave me a slight discount on the bill, my thoughts are they are charging 3 rosette restaurant prices but serving greasy spoon cafe food!!

it is o.k for a snack but not good value for money, we think its a little expensive for what you get, it feels like a cattle market. Not much atmosphere just like a cafe.

five of us dined at gretna hall a,la cart resturant on the 26 october after our friends married earlier in the day.....awe hoped for a bit of fine dineing.....the place its self looked ok and the menu looked very nice indeed.....until the first course arrived.....king prawn skewers on a bed of dill and balsamic vinegar.......six pounds if my memory serves me correct....wot appeared on the plate was five overcooked microwaved miniscule prawns they were that small they could not have been skewered.....and the way it was slammed down on the table was damn rite rude by the sour faced waitress, who was rushing around because it appeared to be the end of her shift, and she didnt utter a word or offer a pleasent smile.appalling....aving said all that ,two of our party had a slightly better experiance with the mackeral.....on to the main course of liver in a delicate sauce, and a 12 ounce tbone steak, well my t bone had not seen a hot grill,it had been slow cooked in a oven by the looks of it,tough as old boots, think they gave us leftover veg from the weekend,it was diabolical, the liver its self was not to bad,but it was served in a heart shaped dish over flowing with gravy.....yes gravy not a delicate sauce.....and for that dineing pleasure we were charged one hundred and thirty five pounds....what a ripp off , take my word for it and stay away at all costs.....go to the hazeldine hotel just accross from the old blacksmiths, had a real nice bar meal in there on the monday evening,at a fraction of the cost....

If your call is diverted to a man with a thick, foreign accent and he invites you another hotel, near the station, do not go under any circumstances.

The steak tasted boiled not fried and the onions were sparse and undercooked. This was not a good steak baguette. Nice service though in good surroundings.

Stayed at the Black Bull as a stop off coming down from Skye. The room was perfect for our family of four with bunk beds and toys for the little ones and a very thoughtful dog tray with bowls, blankets and even some food. It was perfect after a long day of driving. We will definitely be making it our go to place to stay whenever we are in the area.

Excellent service with you ordering everything from your table which is very convenient. Good choice of food although children’s menu could be better and there were no pizzas which dissapointed our youngest grandchild. We all enjoyed what we ordered and look forward to calling again soon.

Popped in for breakfast. 1 vegetarian and 1 Scottish. Plenty choices, great portions, tasty maple syrup pancakes and great service. Maybe a bit pricey at almost £20 but the food was good.
