Anokha Indian Bar Restaurant in City of London, Westminster

4 of us dined here on a Friday night. Very expensive for not a lot of food and food not exceptional either. Asked for tap water with drinks, which wasnt available, Bottle of water bought to table- on receipt of bill charged 6.95 for said bottle! Bittlevthen removed from thevtable despite some water being left in it! Felt very rushed service as if busy and needed the table despite the restaurant being empty! In a nut shell food similar to ready meal, service rushed and over priced, wouldn't go again when we next stay at Tower Hill!

We had a group lunch and the restaurants ambiences was amazing, The foods presentation was superb and very tasty I especially want to mention Sam one of the waiters who was very friendly and welcoming to us and I had the lamb shank and it was delicious not to mention it's the best Indian restaurants we’ve ever dined in, We would definitely will be coming back and would highly recommend this restaurant as a must try.

Food taste was wonderful.. had samosas which were a let down. It was haldirams samosas heated up.. other items were very tasty. Onion bajji, panneer tikka, roti, fried Bhindi ( was really awesome!) Disappointed with service though.. it was like very stern and little dressed down kind of attitude.. not sure why..

Me and my family were out and about in the city shopping, we were looking for somewhere to eat, and remembered a restaurant which was recommended by colleagues, Anokha Indian restaurant, the food and beverage's was exquisite, lived up to the hype, service was amazing from all staff a big thanks to Sam who was very helpful, in helping us decide what to order he was very friendly attentive and went above & beyond making our dining experience exceptional

1) Lot of small flies flying making uncomfortable to eat. 2) Pathetic vegan dish 3) Poor chocolate fondant 4) Chilli Naan was good ( that's why 2 stars for food) 5) Not worth the money 6) Ambience very good (3 stars, if there were no flies it would be 4 stars)

The Staff fantastic, friendly and attentive. The food was delicious. Highly recommend the Vegetarian options and they even have a Vegan section. Being from Leeds and Bradford the quality was a welcomed treat.

This restaurant has already received bad reviews for service, but they don't seem to care! I ate here with my grandson before visiting War of the Worlds, just up the street. We had plenty of time for lunch, but we were almost late! The service was atrocious! I counted seven waiters gathered round the bar area, one cleaning glasses, one folding napkins, five doing nothing, and all talking in very loud voices while the few customers desperately tried to gain their attention to get service. The food was pretty standard, and the prices O.K., and I would have given the restaurant a 3-4 star rating had the service been even close to acceptable.

We had a really nice meal with our clients from Australia and they thoroughly enjoyed the food and atmosphere.

Splendid Indian food- my favourite curry house in the city. Every visit is filled with great experience- delicious food, awesome service and great time spent with colleagues - can highly recommend this place

Lovely meal and excellent service.

I visited this establishment with my husband. The interior is very beautiful, the light is dim and it gives a romantic mood. This place is quite popular and noisy) but it won't stop you from spending a good evening there. The waiters were very attentive and friendly, since it was our first time in a place of this cuisine we were recommended some dishes that were not too spicy and not dry, so the dishes were very tasty. The prices are also affordable and the portions for these prices were super.

Having received a menu through my mailbox the other day, this evening I phoned for a takeaway to be delivered, but the background noise was so loud that the the person at the other end couldn't hear me and I could barely hear him. So I phoned back and appeared to get through to the manager who then asked me to hold on, which I did for a while before giving up and going elsewhere for my meal. I won't be bothering them again.

Went for lunch before War of the Worlds experience. Very slow service. Pretty much ignored. An hour and ten minutes in we had to chase food. Table used as holding area when serving surrounding tables. One waiter snorting flem noises put me off. Food ok, but disappointing as a whole.

Came in on a lunchtime at midday. Staff seemed to ignore us when we arrived. When they did come they seemed unsure whether we could get a table but got us one. Then nothing...for ages!! Had to flag a member of staff down to take our order. The poppadoms came quite quickly then a long pause for our starters. By this time is was 1pm and they were getting busy. Had to flag someone down again to ask for our main courses. They seemed to be fauning on those regulars and we felt totally ignored. Food was good but the service was just beyond poor. If the food had not been so nice, it would have been a score of 1.

lovely food and a good choice of deserts and beverages. Would highly recommended to anyone who loves Indian food ! I would definitely recommend you try Anokha London you won’t regret it the atmosphere is very nice. Also the service is absolutely amazing when food arrives it’s always hot and delicious. And wow…! I must say the mock-tails and cocktails are so so good I definitely recommend you try the entire menu Well done to the Anokha team and a big well done to Sam he always provides a good service and always engages with us and makes our experience enjoyable.

Sumptuous opulent decor in a beautiful historic building. This restaurant is a stones throw away from the Gherkin so very accessible. We were a party of 9 and every dish ordered was delicious. This includes the sides, breads and rice. The meats were soft and tender. The dishes had an authentic depth of flavour and spices which many upmarket south Asian restaurants lack. I asked for my dish to be made milder than the 2 chilli rating it had on the menu and they accommodated this. The staff were extremely welcoming, polite and attentive. Highly recommend.

Great food and atmosphere and staff

A beautiful restaurant with beautiful decor. We were looked after by the lovely Jahan this evening while visiting with friends. He took it upon himself to recommend three dishes to us which were very tasty and the perfect amount of spice. He was also kind enough to give us poppadoms and onion bhaji on the house. His service was spectacular and seemed very knowledgeable about the food offer. I would definitely visit this place again.

The food is very tasty. Not the best Indian cuisine I’ve had in London and portions are quite small. It does come at a hefty price averaging around £20 per main meal (non-vegetarian). The restaurant itself has a lovely atmosphere with authentic decorations and stunning table setting. Very exclusive feel as you walk down into a subtly lit dining area. The service is the biggest downfall with hunting down waiters to place your order or ask for the bill. I recommend ordering the Chilli Paneer and Dahl.

Finding an Indian restaurant in this area of London is easy. Finding one that serves great food with friendly service and in upmarket surroundings...much, much harder. Get yourselves to Anokha. We had such a great time. The food was amazing, hard to pick a favourite dish but the mixed tandoori starter I would eat until I had to be carried from the table. The meat is soooo tender. We were planning our next visit even before we finished eating. Just fabulous.

This is a fabulous restaurant! We had an amazing meal here and the service was friendly and helpful. I have coeliac disease and am severely allergic to gluten and the staff were able to advise me what food was safe for me to eat. Every course was great but the starter of mixed tandoori meat was especially delicious. The meat was so tender. We will definitely return and would recommend this restaurant wholeheartedly.

Really lovely food. With a very friendly service

Let me start off by saying that I just came back from a 10 day trip in London, and of all the restaurants I went to this one was the best hands down. I ordered the vegan chicken tikka masala, and the whole time I was eating it I cannot believe that it was not real chicken. The taste, the texture, the look, it looked so real. I was in disbelief. Mind you, I've eaten a lot of vegan food, but this was far superior. The curry as well was probably the best curry I have ever had in my whole life. The service was phenomenal. There are many servers helping us, but I stand out is Sam. He offered to take a picture of me and my friend in front of their Instagram chair. They were very warm and inviting and made us feel at home during our trip. I really recommend you trying this restaurant, you will not be disappointed.

Hi, I visited Inokha a few weeks ago. All in all food is good, service is excellence. Good option if looking for a nice restaurant in the City.

Worst, we were a big group everyone ordered different dishes. All of them had same gravy, not even close to authentic Indian food. The waiters were rude and in a rush to clean everything up after 8:30. Slow service

The food and the service was amazing! It's a bit weird that the atmosphere is like a night club (also with the music) but otherwise was everything very good!

This place is fine if unremarkable, service is good and there is a broad variety of cocktails. Have been a few times but always large groups so would like to try when investigating the food a bit more. Great atmosphere and restaurant decor.

We went for Friday lunch and were greeted by a lovely person Mr. Journal, as it was our first time at the Anokha he recommended some dishes and drinks (passionfruit mojito 🍸 was Very nice and refreshing). I will return to Anokha for sure.

There is no way of faulting this place, the food, the staff, the ambiance, the facilities are all 10/10. I taste tested the food before booking it for my husbands 50th. My children came out saying ‘mummy that’s the best Indian food ever!’ So it was a no brainier that this this was the place. Before leaving I made the booking. They asked about the cake , which I got delivered to them and did not have any issues with refrigerating it. They also asked me to post them any decorations. I posted them the decorations and they kindly put them up, banner balloons and table confetti. So when we walked in, instantly my husband knew that this area was reserved for him. We’ve been to many restaurants before in London but there was always a no decoration policy, cake can not be stored in their fridge etc… Eating in London is not cheap anymore, but Anokha was able to deliver dish after dish at an impeccable standard without breaking the bank. The staff were always at hand and the manager often came to us to make sure that everything was perfect. We were a party of 12, the youngest being 2 years. Everyone got their food at the same time, there was no waiting about. With 14 popadoms, 11 starters, 11 main meals , 6 sides , 10 naans, not one person in our party complained! Now that’s something to write about ! Would we go back ! Of course we would !

Service was okay, but food was average and mostly quite plain.

The atmosphere of the restaurant is lovely. We went for lunch, but I feel A dinner would be more enjoyable. The food was nice, the vegetarian options could have been better. The Bhidhi bhaji was not that great. The Service was great, we had 2-3 waiters serving our table. Murrad, Saif and Salah were very kind and their service was fantastic.

Sam and team handled 20 of us with ease and the service was great. The food was so tasty and well portioned. Genuinely one of the best Indian restaurants I’ve been to.

First time here and when we first walked in the door it looked like it was really quiet. However we wandered downstairs and suddenly it came alive. Food was really good and plentiful. Only slight criticism I have is that service was too attentive (felt almost rushed for getting orders place), we arrives at 7.20pm on Tuesday night. Despite this, I would definitely go back.

Anokha is an amazing place in central London. The food was amazing and the service was top notch. All staff were excellent but our server (Jahan) was out of this world amazing. He went above and beyond with his service. A true tip of the cap from this old chap!

Staff was hit and miss, some of the staff were really friendly and nice to chat too, others were complete opposite. Had a platter of mixed starters, they were good.. Had a couple of curries, not traditional but lots of sauce, melt in the mouth lamb- sauces were heavy and rich, they were good, 6.5/10- Sag Aloo was great 9/10 you could tell it was made fresh and well. Biryani's were traditional & very nice, however they do not offer a free side (wet curry) with the Biryani which I found odd, so you had to pay over £20 for the Biryani and then another £8 for a side dish which was very expensive. Over all very nice, fine dining / Michelin star prices without the fine dining / Michelin star taste. A curry dish was £22 ish, I suppose you are paying for the location. Over all it was nice- Giving 4 Stars as the Biryanis were very very good.

Visited last week and had fantastic meal. One of best I have had. Service was excellent all round particularly from Salah who is just such a lovely guy Will definitely go back next time am down.

One of the best lunch, dining experience had in a long time, Food & Beverage was delicious…….! We started the traditional way, Indian Larger Poppadom and Chutney awakened my tastebuds, tried Spicy Poppadoms whilst waiting for our starters nice, and unique full of flavour, recommended the King Prawn Puri was so delicious, amazingly succulent tender very tasty, was very impressed with the signature dish Badsha Bhag full of flavour medium based enjoyed spices delightfuly ingredients infused put together pure heaven, tried a special cocktail the BMW, crushed ice, very soothing, and very refreshing, then with the main course, enjoying my favourite, Piña Colada, we shared variety of Cheese Cakes, staff was so attentive and friendly my colleagues, loved the Fresh leaf Mint Tea, Royal Coffee, Yeager Meister, port, and a wonderful after Curry Chocolate

I go there regularly in the evenings. One of the best service from the people that work there. My favourite dish Tandoori mix grill with vegetable curry on the side and 2 chappati. Excellent flavour and marvellous decorations. I will say if you don’t try them you are losing out. Definitely I would recommend them.

Food portions are small, it is over-priced and the taste is not near expectations of a ‘high-end’ or even an ‘Indian’ restaurant. Would highly recommend not coming here if you wanted to taste authentic Indian food. Ambience and decor is the only plus in an otherwise disappointing visit. Food: butter chicken was not authentic at all and it tasted sweet as it had sugar. Tarka daal had no tarka. Lamb karahi was the only saviour. Will not be going back ever again!

Food was alright, nothing special. Service was extremely slow, even though the place wasn’t busy. Took us close to an hour to get our food. I wouldn’t recommend or go back.

An unusual restaurant. It's subterranean, so when you arrive, there are no staff just a descending staircase. Food was excellent, service efficient but, by Irish standards not very friendly. But the sting was in the tail. 12.5% service automatically applied. Bas idea. If you believe your food us worth it, have the cahones to put it onto the price on the menu. That attitude would prevent a second visit

I did think the food, though very well cooked, was a little bland. It was, therefore, a good place for a work team evening, as this played to everyone's tastes.

honestly the best restaurant experience i’ve had this year so far. not only was the food spectacular but the service was exceptional. all of the employees were extremely friendly and helpful the manager and our server salah especially. a complete 10/10 experience and i’ll definitely be coming back

A beautiful East meets West 5 star rated restaurant tucked away behind the Gherkin & city of London buildings next to The Guild Church of St Katharine Cree. The restaurant is situated in a beautiful historical grade 2 listed building with a lot of history going back to the East India Company. The restaurant is very close to Aldgate station and not to far from Liverpool street Bishopsgate and Petticoat Lane Market. Parking is free after 7pm but its a short walk from local stations. The restaurant has a grand and beautifully designed entrance which winded you down a beautiful stairwell to a basement covered with exquisite decor and a photo wall of A listed celebrities who have visited the restaurant. The design and interior was beautifully laid out and gave you a feeling of calm ambience atmosphere. The restaurant is beautifully laid out with a capacity of 150 people at any one time. Staff greeted us at the front and were very friendly and bubbly as we got seated. Once seated you felt a sense of relaxation looking around you again beautiful Indian style decor and design with a modern twist. A range of drinks were ordered with poppadoms with chutney and pickles which came onto table very quickly. We ordered the house speciality starter which was a mixed platter as below: Starters: prawn dhamaka grilled salmon lamb tikka chicken tikka seekh kebab grilled king prawn onion bhaji The starters were beautifully presented, hot, tasty and full of flavour and spice to accommodate each of our taste buds and again didn’t take long to arrive on table. The mains we ordered was a mixture of items below accompanied with white rice and biryani; Laal Maas (lamb curry) Butter chicken Shahi gosht Biryani Badshah baagh (king prawn) Chicken special Monk fish curry Tarka daal Mains were delicious, with great flavours beautifully spiced, well presented and at the right temperature to be eaten straight away. As each of us tucked into the food we conversed how Indian food has changed and how Anokha was reimagining the way Indian food tastes and is presented for the modern day food connoisseur . Again there was something there for everyone and we all tried everything and loved all the dishes. Compliments to the Chef!! After the main we relaxed and enjoyed a nice cup of tea. We were with the Grand Tea Master himself Sheikh Aliur Rahman OBE (London Tea Exchange) recognising his OBE. Thank you to all staff at Anokha it was a wonderful relaxed evening with lovely food to eat with lovely friends.

Amazing atmosphere and really enjoyed the music, Had a set menu for 2 the Mix Platter starter was amazing so tender, Tried a Komdi Rassa for my Main Dish full of flavour delicious spices succulent Chicken perfectly cooked infused also included Rice and a delicious Naan Bread and a Vegetable Curry on the side was so nice me and my colleague was satisfied for our business lunch.

One of the best Indian restaurants, I would personally recommend, me and my colleagues had a fantastic meal for Wednesday lunch Fantastic service from all staff especially Sam who recommend a selection of great starters and mains, excellent customer service, personally made us some amazing cocktail beverages, perfect Irish coffee & desserts, definitely recommend you dine in Anokha as everything we ordered tasted amazing, especially enjoyed the specialty dishes very unique, we will be back soon.

Door was closed and no one was there to open it or answer the call despite of coming from long distance even the Google listing showing as it is open.

I think the title says it all, I have been going to anokha for the last 14 years, I’ve introduced people within the city as well as outside claiming it to be the best Indian in the city of london, today however was a different story. I booked a table via their instagram (which I have done before) I arrive there with 2 other guests and was told they don’t have my booking even after showing them the confirmation via insta. I was then told their insta was managed by a 3rd party (which shocks me as a business with only 1500 followers) and then I was told I don’t have a table and was turned away from the restaurant without any apology when I booked a table, I’m shocked by the customer service considering I’m a gold card member and have been visiting the restaurant for many years. I’m appalled and disgusted how any restaurant can treat a customer this way. The front of house should not be in that role at all, a normal person would have bent backwards but this guy did not care, at least offer us drinks at the bar whilst we wait, but he wanted us out, well done Anokha

First table seated at lunchtime, 1hr 10 to get food. Delicious when it came but not good when you're on a lunch break

The variety and quality of the food is fantastic. Very fair prices. The decor and cleanliness excellent. I will return here and highly recommend this hidden gem!

We had a colleague leaving dinner planned at this place and we were 7 people in total. As soon as we sat a very rude staff member comes to the table and says drinks drinks with a gesture that we need to be quick to respond literally not a word like welcome smile nothing pure rudeness, after that we ordered about 6 starters which actually took 1 hour 40 minutes to arrive and that after asking for it about 3 times, then food came after another hour later, the service is worst i have seen ever in London our bill was £257 i can't get the rudeness of their staff out of my head seemed they just hate us for being there all i can say is food is good but you can get it anywhere, service was literally insulting 3 of my team members said we will not give 1 star for such service also when we arrived we thought we will have our two more office dinners their but after this experience they lost all business from us, again if you want to have a good time and keep your respect don't go even close to this place. Very very very rude staff

Food was pretty good, that’s why I’m giving it 1 star, but service was abysmal. It took them 50 minutes for starters, only because we threatened to leave, another 45 for the mains and 30 for the bill.

Really delicious food and lovely staff! Had a lovely experience here and was so happy to have come.Tandoori lamb chops and king prawns were out of this world, and the curries are so well balanced and creamy. Got spicy and mild options and all were extremely well done. Can’t wait to come back! Thank you team at Anokha!

We have been blessed to have visited this restaurant while arriving to London for the first time . Coming from Toronto, Canada we have many Indian restaurants , which we have enjoyed but never had we had the experience of truly tasty True Indian food. Almost a rebirth for my wife and I when we tried this amazing food for the first time here. Everything was incredibly well balanced, and each dish was better than the next. First we started with the Tandoori lamb chops and the complex seasoning along with the grilling style truly brought out the Flavours of the meat which were so amazing.We wanted to lick the bone. As we started with our appetizers, we then continued with the Tandoori king prawns which had so much meat and must have onion bhajee . Which was light and crispy and a delicious combo to pair with. From the appetizers we knew we were in for a treat and a night of Flavours. When ordering dinner we had Vegetable biryani , Mixed vegetable curry , Jhinga Malabar , garlic naan and chicken masala. The fresh ingredients truly were tasted from the quality of the meats and seasoning blends. We couldn’t of been happier to be eating at this restaurant and to have honour of meeting the Owner Aziz and his lovely staff who treated us like family. Thank you for hospitality and can not recommend this restaurant enough!

Extremely dull food, average service and way over priced

Ok atmosphere, small portions, Tikka masala was mediocre at best. Wasted money. The service was decent at least.

Great food! I went for the Gulap Chilli Gosht as a main course, which was delicious. We also had the Tandoori Platter to share, and again, this was a good range of tastes and flavours, including chicken, lamb and seafood. Great decor as you enter and go down the stairs to basement level. Pretty full when we went on a Weds lunchtime, so clearly a popular choice!

Excellent food, excellent service, excellent venue. Met friends for lunch and we all enjoyed every dish, very flavoursome and well cooked, lamb was beautiful. The staff were very helpful and friendly. I highly recommend visiting.

Sadly not a good experience here at all. Nearly empty restaurant on a Friday evening, with decor that was too dark. Found the waiter to be a bit rude, and not trained in good hosting. The food was decent, but it did not live up to the hype.

One of the worst restaurants I have been to. Really poor quality food especially the biryani was the worst of all. Rude service where the waiter was changing the table cloth while we were seated and asking us to hand him the cutlery and the glasses. The food was terrible in both taste and quality.

Massively over priced for what it is. Very small portions of food. Paid 12 quid for a platter that had 4 individual things on it. Went with a large group and the food was very British Indian than an actual Indian restaurant. Would not recommend this place, lots of better things out there that are way nicer and better quality.
