Loved this little gem. Wish it didn’t close, hope the restaurant starts up again

Very good Thai restaurant in Portobello. Had a takeaway before which was very good so we tried a meal in the restaurant itself. The food was very good, the waitress was very good and overall just a great wee restaurant. Would thoroughly recommend this place but it is closing down on the 1st April!!!!! Where will we go for a great Thai meal in or around Portobello. You've got 6 days left to try this place...well probably only 3 as it's only open on a few days of the week.

A small and unassuming restaurant, but don't get put off by the simple interior. The food is very tasty and the service is friendly. Lovely pad Thai! Reasonably priced, too. Thumbs up.

Food was wonderful, staff friendly and helpful. Toilets need to be sorted and restaurant was not very warm. Limited alcohol available. Would definitely visit and recommend to friends and family.

Absolutely faultless. We had the place to ourselves for a 60th and the team here couldn’t have been more friendly, helpful and accommodating. The food was incredible, service efficient and they even let us redecorate! They let us pre-order so everything would run smoothly on the night, which saved a lot of time and hassle. Really gave us a special night and I’ll 100% be going back.

Great thai cuisine...for somebody who never eat this kind of food before, from my experience of leaving in Thailand and dining in many street food and many Thailand restaurants, I could recommend to try other places in Edinburgh because this one is the NO one

We had eaten here in October last year and were keen to repeat the experience. We booked a table for 3 on a Wednesday evening and couldn't fault the food served to us by a friendly and efficiently lovely waitress. We enjoyed the experience so much that my husband and I returned on Friday evening, without having booked, but happily were allocated the last free table. We again enjoyed a delicious meal and very good service. We will be back on our next visit to Portobello.

Some of the best Thai food we’ve ever had. Beautifully cooked, fresh ingredients and full of flavour. Very quick and friendly service. The restaurant itself is quaint and traditional. Will definitely be returning!

Fresh food with a kind waitress and quiet private atmosphere

Went in November 2021 and it was extremely good. We went on to people how good it was. Went again on 26th February 2022 with son and partner. They were very slow in serving us and 1 hour 30 mins later we were only getting our main course. At the time of our arrival there was a few people in but they were already eating. The food was not up to the standards we had in November. They appeared to be concentrating on all the delivery meals that were a constant in and out of the restaurant. We unfortunately will not be visiting again. They maybe need to get bigger premises and have separate area for takeaways. They need to concentrate on their sit in customers.

Reviews were good so gave Anna Thai a go. Delivered in good time. Dim sum were fine. Prawns tasted of old cooking oil. Coating fell off the duck which was tough. Noodles were mush and had an unpleasant flavour.

I am going to compare this meal to Thai Express franchise, Leicester because that is the last time I had a thai meal - the meals are a few pounds more expensive & the Pad Thai had a slight burnt taste, which was evident when I found the chicken to be charred - the dishes are strong in flavour, good portion size, quality of meat & veg good - overall very tasty meal...

First time at the restaurant after friends telling me how good it is. Totally loved it, great food,Anna was cheerful, helpful and set a nice bubbly atmosphere. Kinda love the fact that it’s not this big up market restaurant, you get what you see. Highly recommended, will definitely be back for more. Great value also

The food was good but the atmosphere was cold and depressing.More like a cafe.I felt that they could have softened the lights and added candles.Was not told when I booked that it was cash only! Doesn't the owner realise that a dining experience needs more than just food?.He has to address the ambience. Carry outs came and went leaving the door ajar and a wind blowing through the place.Will perhaps get a carry out next time and sit in my own lounge.A better experience.

We came to Edinburgh for a couple of days and fancied a Thai meal. We saw the reviews so decided to give it a try, the food is delicious and I wished we had a Thai restaurant as good as this near where I live. The food is freshly cooked and absolutely delicious . The presentation is very good as well. Would highly recommend .

Took us ages to finally try out Anna's Thai but love it - some really unusual and delicious dishes (sea bass cooked in whisky, crispy tamarind chicken). Very helpful owner. Lovely all round.

If you love Thai food and are staying in Portobello then I would highly recommend Anna Thai. Portions are v generous and plenty of options including vegetarian and vegan. Service was also great. A real good find, will be back!

Friendly, helpful service from the staff, happy to answer my constant "is that gluten free" question about everything as I have coeliac disease. Never get the upset stomach that I get with most other places that say they are gluten free. The suaces are incredible, never greasy. Would definitely recommend.

We were struggling for a long time to find authentic Thai food in Edinburgh, then found this on our doorstep. Anna is always accommodating and flexible!

Amazing Thai food! 5 of us on New Year’s Day and they opened early for our booking. Brilliant pad Thai, fantastic prawns and a perfect green curry. Service was excellent and great value too. Will definitely keep coming back

We live a long way from Portobello so can't go often but do go to Anna Thai when we're here. The restaurant is tiny but, for those who need to know, it's all on the flat including the toilets, and there's space to get about. The menu is varied and the food is excellent - top quality, decent servings and really fresh and tasty. There's only one waitress on (the manageress? Owner?) but even so the service is really good, even when busy. She's actually a real credit to the restaurant - friendly, knowledgeable and welcoming. She often seems to get the customers laughing and is an absolute gem. Hope to go every time we're in Portobello.

Quaint little gem with some excellent food.

Mid week so the restaurant was quiet (although telephone barely stopped for bookings and takeaways) but the manager (owner?) couldn't have been more friendly and welcoming, joking with the customers, creating a lovely, relaxed, friendly atmosphere. Even the customers ended up talking to each other. We'd never been before and the reviews were a bit mixed but we couldn't recommend this small restaurant more highly. The food was freshly prepared, you can see them cooking it, and it was just delicious - fresh, tasty, as good as any Thai food I've had anywhere. As is usual with Thai restaurants, plenty of veggie options and very easy to make swaps if you want to. For those who need to know the restaurant is small but there's still plenty of room to get about and everything is on the level including toilets and entrance.

Back on top form again! Felt it lost it's way a bit in the past but fantastic food on our last 2 visits

Tonight we decided to get a takeaway and I can say one thing. Our food arrived 20 minutes ago and me and my partner absolutely loved it!! We demolished it! He had the duck (pla kra phong dum) and I had the sea bass( ped bam na), noodles, egg fried rice and the satay chicken as a starter. I can say best takeaway Thai I've had. Looking at the pictures from the other reviews we will be visiting the restaurant soon! Thank you very much! Everything was perfect!! ☺

Lovely little place family run, excellent food for a very good price! Had the £11.50 started and main and was very full and content. Hosted 10 of us too and the food quality was still excellent.

Popped into this restaurant as we were in the area and hadn’t booked anywhere. Nice friendly welcome by the waitress, the restaurant itself is fairly small and basic but looked clean enough. My starter arrived fairly quickly, but after my second bite the inside of my spring roll was cold, this was dealt with immediately by the staff, but unfortunately by the time my replacement arrived my wife had finished hers. Main course arrived in a decent time my chicken panang curry was passable but bits of my fried rice had to be cut with a knife.. a first for me!!! I won’t be rushing back anytime soon.

Food is excellent and authentic. Generous too: two seafood dishes had lots of very nicely cooked sea bass and prawns, and scallops with the roe on...rare in my experience. Flavours are intense and spiciness well judged so as not to overwhelm. Service was friendly, attentive and quick. One of those places that doesn’t look fancy but where the cooking is perfect, and doesn’t look expensive... and isn’t! Good value.

Visité a un amigo para ponernos al día, lo que significaba que íbamos a salir por última vez, pero no nos echaron. Decoración muy básica pero excelente comida. 2 entrantes maravillosos y 2 platos principales con arroz que ambos luchamos por terminar debido al tamaño de las porciones. La cantidad justa de especias para patear tus papilas gustativas pero no para matarlas. El camarero fue muy atento asegurándose de que siempre tuviéramos agua en nuestras copas y él llenó nuestras copas de vino regularmente. Todo el personal era encantador y amable. Vivo cerca y volveré!

What a little gem. Lovely casual calm atmosphere, warm friendly staff whom really care what you think of their food. Which was AMAZING! Great value for money and so tasty...will definitely be making this place a permanent fixture.

El restaurante estaba lleno cuando fuimos, pero la espera en la comida no estaba nada mal, como cabría esperar. Cuando llegó la comida nos quedamos impresionados. He comido aquí antes hace aproximadamente un año y creo que la comida ha mejorado incluso recientemente.La sopa de Tom yum era increíble, los rollitos de primavera eran frescos, ¡el curry tailandés rojo era magnífico! También tuve langostinos de tamarindo por los cuales morirían.¡No puedo esperar para regresar! !

Disfrutamos mucho de nuestra comida en Anna Thai, así como del ambiente, un pequeño y acogedor restaurante. La comida era auténtica y el menú ofrece una buena variedad de platos. Recomendamos especialmente Ped Siam, el iniciador de pato, así como el pescado principal y el curry verde.

Excellent meal , been here a couple of times now, food is great , if you like authentic Thai food it’s perfect!

Nice equiped restaurant with lovely people and superb Thai- cook !! nice spicy creame sauces . The jasmin tea there is also a verry tasty rich flavored tea.

Visited here for an anniversary meal after various reviews / recommends. Staff were very helpful and polite and the food was absolutely delicious... Highly advise the chef mixed starters which were beautifully presented then the Monkfish curry as a main was totally 5 star. Will def be back again.. What a great place to have in Porty.

Have visited on many occasions with various friends

Just bought a takeaway for my wife and myself due to staying overnight in Portobello. Ordered a starter, 2 mains and 2 rice for just under £25 which i think is reasonable.

Eaten here many times , all times of the day , all days of the week.

In Dutch: heerlijk!! Portions are not too big, but the taste of all dishes was perfect. Im quite sure we’ll order again this weekend :-). Thanks Anna Thai!!

Four of us ate at this very small restaurant - only 20 or so covers - and we had a very pleasant evening. The food and service was good. The restaurant is run by, and I guess owned by, Anna, and she was very sweet and welcoming.

Only Thai in portobello and does a great job. Handy for bus routes and from Porty centre. Decor clean and fresh, though bathrooms need a bit of a touch up.

Visited here with my friend tonight. Excellent food, excellent service. I will definitely be back soon 100% recommend

Really tasty and beautifully presented food. Helpful staff. I had the Sea bass in red Thai curry sauce. There were no bones, which is a big thumbs up.

On a friend's recommendation, we booked a table here on Sat 2nd December... I cannot thank our friend enough. From the moment we walked through the door to the last drop of dessert, this was a totally fantastic experience. The food was fragrant and spicy as hoped for and the service was second to none. Sadly, living 70 miles away means we won't be able to visit as often as possible but we will certainly be back.

Was my first time trying Thai food and was not disappointed. Had a beef dish (cant remember the exact name) with the coconut rice, was a very tasty dish! I would recommend the noodles if you are hungry as you seem to get a bigger portion in comparison to the rice. The only downside is that the alcohol selection is very limited in regards to beers and spirits. Would happily go back to this restaurant, everyone in my party really enjoyed their meal!

We went recently to try Anna Thai to get some take-away food for dinner during the week. We got nicely impressed by the friendly staff, and by wide choice of vegetarian and mixed (fish or meat) dishes.

Shared a starter platter which was delicious. It had a selection of different small bites and a trio of dipping sauces. We then ordered a curry each and shared a rice. Portions were very large and filling. Meat was cooked perfectly and the sauce was packed full of flavour. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and were well looked after. Service was prompt and of a high standard.

This is a really great little restaurant in the heart of Portobello. We go regularly, it's so handy for us, as we can walk there and back. They operate a BYO policy for wine. There's always a warm welcome from the lovely staff and the food is really tasty.

My husband and I had a lovely evening in this small but great Thai restaurant. The food was utterly delicious and the service and staff were fantastic. Even when the sizzling chilli dishes came out and front door had to be opened all made for a fun evening. Thanks to the chefs too they were fantastic x

Resturant was very quiet when we arrived. Enjoyed our lunch £10 deal worth it. below is the menu. They do presentation with cut vegetables nice touch.

We were really looking forward to trying this new Thai restaurant, but unfortunately we were very disappointed with the food. We love Thai food and make a lot of dishes ourselves. The king prawns in pastry were obviously bought ready made and then just deep fried. Tasteless. Tom yum soup tasted liked red Thai paste mixed with water and a few bits of shellfish thrown in including a cherry tomatoe? I had the pineapple with chicken. Tinned pineapple yuck. Husband's mixed seafood was like eating rubber. We left both main dishes barely touched and were given a 10% discount ? The only good thing was the cheery staff. Sorry I would have loved to have given a positive review but the food was not good.

Very tasty thai food. Not too salty which I have found with other thai restaurants. Fantastic service and great value for money.

Went here with friends. The staff were welcoming and pleasant. The food we had was a let down. The sweet a sur sauce was thick and glutinous and. Could have come out of a jar. Very overpriced for what you get.

Not the best Thai I've been to and not a patch on others we visit regularly. It was nice fresh food but lacked a spark and the class/elegance of other restaurants. And the staff seemed to be in a hurry to get rid of our table which didn't make us feel welcome. It is cheap and good value but not sure if we will return in a hurry.

This is the most authentic Thai restaurant I've eaten in outside Thailand, & I love Thai food. Wonderful. Aromatic, delicately spiced, perfectly cooked food, with friendly, helpful staff. Go here.

New restaurant in Portobello, Edinburgh. I've visited twice recently for lunch. I had the set lunch on one visit and it's amazing value. Two courses followed by ice cream or tea/coffee. It was very tasty and a bargain at £9.95. On my other visit I ordered from the main menu and the dish was outstanding(king prawn pad char). Service is fab and it's currently byob as doesn't yet have its drinks license. Well worth giving them a visit.

Enjoyed my first visit to this restaurant and will definitely return. The restaurant is small in size but it was pleasantly busy at 6pm on a Sunday night. It is clean and bright. Our waitress was friendly and welcoming although she was very busy and we had to wait a while to get her attention and receive our meals which is why my review isn't 5 stars. The menu is filled with so many delicious sounding dishes- myself and my friend were genuinely torn between 3 or 4 options they all sounded so good. Lots of choices between mild, medium and spicy as well as a choice of chicken, beef prawn or fish for the dishes which was nice. Most starters were £4-5 and mains £8-13 depending on what meat you chose. Portion sizes were just right and the flavours were super. My tom yum prawn soup was so delicious and the massaman curry is definitely worth a try. Not many choices for pudding but the ice cream is a refreshing end. At time of writing it is bring your own bottle for £1.50 which makes the whole meal very reasonable. I hope this restaurant sticks around in Portobello as there is so many other dishes I want to eat!

First impressions matter, a hair in our rice, which was nearly six inches long was not a good start, chicken satay for a starter was very tasty but my prawns looked like they were from a frozen supermarket. My monkfish was exceptional but to my surprise our chicken main had less chicken than our starter, coconut rice was very tasty but should have been lighter. In view of the restaurant being open a few days and teething problems are expected, I will try again, but I expect improvements.

Just opened today so had to be there to try it .
