Angus & Ale (Ballater) in Aberdeenshire

We have come to Ballater for years .. this is a new kid on the block . Small menu but that makes this all the better .. Had a delicious Cajun chicken burger on a toasted brioche bun .. delicious ! Lovely staff , modern cosy eatery . Couldn't fault it ... Love it .

Visited the Angus & Ale on two nights consecutively and on both occasions Brian served us the tastiest burgers and most succulent steaks weve had in years. Friday night was incredibly busy but we were looked after as efficiently as expected. Great place, great food and great banter… we will definitely be back

Great find in Ballater, do much so we returned two days later. Busy on both occasions so booking recommended! The burgers were some of the best we have ever tasted, just the right ratio of succulent ingredients and bun. The beef is dry aged on the bone for 28 days plus and was excellent both in the burgers and a flat iron steak. Service was very friendly, prices good and the beers show casing the Harviestoun brewery.

This is without a doubt the best place to eat in ballater! The staff are fantastic and full of banter and the burgers and steaks are the best I’ve had in a long time! Tip top place. We literally went 5 nights on the trot it’s that good. Highly recommended! Will miss the school hill burger and sticky toffee pudding!

Tasty food and a few different items on the menu to the norm, which was nice! Polite and attentive staff. Great music and cosy atmosphere. Will be back for sure.

Excellent meal! A really tasty burger and sides. The restaurant has a cosy Scottish highlands feel and we had one of the high table with stools. Good service.

Lovely place with cozy, classy atmosphere. Great service for our group of 7 people (even with several non-english speakers at the table), we had the best beef we tasted in Scotland together with some of the rarest scottish ales on tap. Definitely recommend if you're in Ballater

My daughter and myself went there on Sat 29 July. First time I had been. As soon as we walked in the place felt welcoming. It was busy, but it wasnt long efore we were seen to by Fiona, very pleasant and polite. No problem answering our questions. We got our starters and it was lovely,once again Fiona was very pleasant as she took out plates away. I could see Brian very busy aswell and very polite. Also what I noticed was everyone enjoying their meals (not that I was straring at everyone) The atmosphere was lovely. Our main course came out and another big hit. We really didnt want to leave the place so we stayed and had another 2 drinks. Couldnt manage a sweet though. I would recommend this place without a doubt. Staff excellent.

Amazing service which was topped by the best burger I have had in many years! Also the rosemary fries made the overall experience a 5 out of 5 for food taste. Highly recommend!

Great atmosphere and very friendly staff. Best burgers ever. Love the set package you can choose from which comes with a glass of house wine. Small location so I recommend you book as also very popular.

This was my second visit to Angus and Ale and it didn't disappoint. I rocked up at about 5.40pm on Saturday in the hopes of getting a table and was given a warm welcome and seated quickly. Being early I was the only one in at that time and, like another reviewer mentioned, it didn't look open from the outside as it's quite a dark room. Being a solo diner can be awkward as staff often want to tuck you away in a corner so I actually appreciated being sat in the middle of the wall facing the window and door! The banter with the staff was friendly, even when it was suggested that my table didn't need a tealight when I said they were romantic! (I did get one and yes, they do enhance the ambience... 🙂) I had the Cajun Chicken in a Bun which had a lovely cajun spice and kick from the jalapeños in the cheese. The chips were very tasty too. It was nice to get a non-alcoholic lager as I was driving. The bar bill and food bill do need to be paid separately. In the 45 minutes I was in there was an impromptu table of 3 seated, another table for 2 booked and 2 more folks welcomed in. If you want a good meal in a friendly, cosy restaurant I'd suggest booking a table or getting there early to secure a spot. I'll definitely be back for a third visit!

Ate here and had the Ballater Belter Burgers and hubby had a great craft beer. Burgers were amazing and definitely lived up to their name also the rosemary salted chips were scrummy. Would highly recommend
