Very nice pub, the staff were excellent and a lovely relaxed atmosphere. So five stars there. The food was average pub grub and lacked the extra attention needed for an evening meal, at £17 for a pie and chips I was not impressed, so, three stars there, drinks expensive, I can understand why it is a brewery-owned pub, the people running it are great though.

Welcoming and cosy traditional pub, perfect after your day out hiking in Waterfall Country (Elidir Trail) littered with splendid waterfalls. Take your swimming gear! The Inn is dog and hikers friendly. Recommend Cwrw Braf (Welsh beer) from tap and tuna mayo jacket potato (generous portion!). Beautiful surroundings are a bonus.

We enjoyed some lovely drinks and food here after doing the ‘Four Waterfalls’ walk. Everyone was really friendly and welcoming towards us and our 2 dogs. Food was extremely affordable but tasted expensive! Would be 5 stars if all the outside tables had a parasol, as we spent the whole meal in the sun..which i shouldn’t complain about really! 🌞

We went as a family of 9 to the Angel today to celebrate my son's 40th birthday. We all ordered the beef for our Sunday lunch. The beef was tasty, succulent and very tender. Having planned a walk to the nearby waterfalls, we decided to have Sunday lunch at the Angel before we set off, and so glad we did! This was our first visit to the pub, but certainly won't be our last! We were very impressed with the safety measures in place, upon arrival our contact details were taken and there was hand sanitiser available before entering. The pub seemed fairly busy, but at no point did we feel social distancing was an issue, there was plenty of space between tables and when moving around. We were given a very warm welcome by all the staff, who were very friendly, professional and efficient. We both ordered the beef dinner, which was absolutely delicious, genuinely one of the best I have had! Big portions, even I struggled to finish it all and I have a big appetite. But it was too nice to leave any! The beef was thick and so tender it melted in your mouth. And the vegetables were cooked perfectly. Very good value for the quality and quantity of food.Cant wait to visit again for another Sunday lunch and to try the rest of the main menu! I would make the two hour round trip again, just to visit this pub, even without going on the super walks nearby.

When my friend and myself arrived to the pub 6pm on Tuesday we waited 10 mins to be seated, other 10 to get attention, I was told I can't order food because they were fully booked with the eat out discount. They double checked and after another 10 mins it turned out to be fine. Waited for a while again to order. They were not packed at all, staff just looked confused, not knowing what they are doing, took over half a hour just to order. Run out of draught beer, got a room temperature bottle after I had to ask again because they forgot. Food was very quick, good portion. Delicious soup and mushroom starter. Cheesy chips was not melted. Not impressed at all.

We stopped in here, very damp, following a waterfall walk which starts from behind the pub. The staff were really welcoming. We had some lunch which was delicious. Had we have been staying closer we would have visited again in an evening. As per the other reviews, the decor might be a little dated but it added to the ambience of a small, independent country pub for us. It wasn’t tatty or in poor repair, just “olde worlde”.

Myself and my Family travel here from Brynmawr (30 minute drive) regularly for Sunday lunch. The food is absolutely brilliant - always hot and full of flavour. The pub itself is full of charm and is kept immaculate. The owner is always very welcoming as are the staff and prices are very competitive. It makes me laugh that i see some people making negative comments on here because the pub doesn't offer free re-fills for their water bottles - it is located on a very popular walking route - their water bill would be huge if they did this for every walker that asked!!I can't recommend this place highly enough - lovely food, fantastic setting and a very warm welcome from the owner and staff - what more do you want? I ordered a jacket potato but unfortunately they hadn't made enough so I had to choose something else. That was quite annoying seeming as it was 12.30pm and there was only one other table seated inside the restaurant.I chose a tuna baguette which came with a side salad and it was average. Should have read the previous reviews before going there as I have experienced the same reaction from the landlady when she has had to deal with a large group of people ordering food. We went for a walk at the local waterfalls, which were amazing. Called in at this pub, which from the outside looks quite nice. Unfortunately the internal decor is reminiscent of an older era, I was expecting someone to suggest chicken in the basket. It was very busy as it was a beautiful day and as I walked in so someone was taking out a sign (which by the look of things is used often) advising diners there would be quite a delay in receipt of any food, as a result we just had a drink. This cannot be unusual surely, the location at the entrance to the walks must attract large numbers of walkers, and not to be able to deal with this in this day and age is not good customer service. There was an excellent bistro across the road "Sgwd Gwladys" and their service was excellent. This is a fairly new restaurant and from what I can see has entered the 21st century, unlike the Angel Inn.

I dropped in to the pub just for a quick drink. Looked around and saw the food, from a distance; and it looked nice. I made a booking for the following Sunday for lunch. It was for 12.30. Some of the windows were open and it was quite cold. You had to order the food at the bar and pay for it prior to eating it. I ordered 2 lunches and 1 soup as a starter. When we sat down the Manageress / owner came over and asked what soup I wanted. I chose leek and potato. My brother did not want a starter and asked the lady if he could have his lunch at the same time as my starter. He was famished. She said you don't really understand. The food comes out in tureens. Of course I did know this as I'm a chef. My brother told the lady not to worry about it as it was his birthday and did not want to get upset about it. After I finished my starter the meal arrived.......if that's what you can call it. It comprised of 1 Yorkshire pudding with half a roast potato in it. Two slices of meat on each plate. Two small boiled potatoes, four tiny broccoli florets and one carrot between us. I then called the waitress over and asked her for some more potatoes. She brought out two more. The meal was over before it as started. We were asked if we wanted a dessert but we had already decided that they were not getting any more money from us. We left there as hungry as we were at the start. From there I drove to M&S; in Merthyr where I bought some food. I would just add that the meat did taste nice but the lack of the vegetables left a bitter taste in your mouth. It wasn't value for money. The condescending attitude and the staff having their hair flowing all over your plates did not help either. All in all, if you are an O.A.P. with a tiny appetite; then this will be the place for you. It's quite funny really regarding water. When most establishments in the media are now giving free water to their customers without complaining about it even if they are on a water meter this establishment do not go with the flow.

Large pub feels like it's designed to deal with hoards of tourists in the high season. Charming pub, food was decent. Beer selection is fairly mainstream. Wife had a tuna baguette and I had a chicken and leek pot pie which was enjoyable but not nearly as good as yesterdays elsewhere, but im slightly biased to "proper pies" vs. pot pies! :)

I took my grandmother and mother in law out for a mother's day meal with my sister in law. We were booked for 2pm but arrived slightly before. We were greeted by a lady who I presume is the manager and I have so say that she was absolutely lovely. She said that luckily our table was empty and we could sit right away. Since it was mother's day it was packed but the staff seemed to be coping well and there was a great atmosphere there. When we were given the menu we noticed it was slightly different to what we had seen online. Being vegetarian, I've seen a fair few nut roasts in my time and so it was refreshing to see glamorgan sausages online. Therefore it was disappointing to see that they weren't on the mothers day menu. When the same lady came to our table to ask if we'd been served I explained that we hadn't and asked her about the menu. She explained that this was due to the fact that it was a busy day and said without me even asking that it wouldn't be a problem to serve us them anyways. I thought that was absolutely lovely and being on the table with two other veggies, I can't tell you how appreciated this was. We had the tomato soup to start, it was absolutely beautiful, a good portion and with a lovely small crusty roll. The main meals were lovely. Good portions, large home cooked Yorkshire pudding and perfectly cooked roast potatoes! The glamorgan sausage were totally worth it and we were served with our own little gravy boats of Vegetarian gravy. My mother in law had the turkey and she couldn't get over how much was on the plate and said how it fell apart as she cut it. We all really enjoyed. I was a little gutted that the strawberry and white chocolate cheesecake was all gone (although it's an excuse to come back) but the apple tart and ice cream was delicious none the less. The waiting staff were rushed off their feet as were those behind the bar but having said that each and every one of them were polite and friendly and are definitely a credit to the Angel Inn. We had a lovely meal and we will 100% be back again. Thank you all for helping us treat our mothers and mother figures on mothers day!

The Angel Inn is in a great location right at the main access into waterfall country so parking can be awkward. But the pub is superb and well worth visiting. I was planning a few hour walk so I asked if I could used their carpark; which wasn't a problem.

Food here is about right for the price you pay. No complaints regarding the food however we were left to wait an over a hour and a half for our food. People were asking for refunds back. We were told it was busy when we ordered and could expect a 50 minute wait which was fine however we waited a further 40 minutes on top. Staff didn’t keep us informed, didn’t offer us a drink while was waited. Not sure why today was so different as this bar is always busy. Won’t visit again

We stopped here on our way home from the Brecon Mountain Railway (Santa Special). I called less than a week before to book. We were a party of 10 (6 adults and 4 kids) so I was pleasantly surprised how accommodating they were on the phone. I booked for 5pm but they said to give them a ring if we were going to be a bit early (or late) which meant did not have to stress.

My husband and I visited the restaurant again Saturday evening. We have been here on many occasions and find the restaurant most welcoming. Food was the usual high quality and standard, service was faultless. We will be booking again shortly, thank you Lisa and staff for a lovely evening.

We didn’t actually eat in here, but my brief experience left me with a bad taste in my mouth. Came in on a Sunday afternoon to ask if there was a table available and was met with a very rude lady front of house. She informed me that there were no tables available (fair enough) so I asked her if there was anywhere else nearby we could eat. She told me she didn’t know of anywhere else nearby. On leaving the pub I logged onto trip advisor to have a look and found another pub 80 metres away!! It was literally around the corner, and luckily they were far more accommodating, because their food was delicious (The Old White Horse Inn). My friend popped in a few minutes later because we had arranged to meet there and I hadn’t had chance to tell her we’d moved, and she was met with even more rudeness from this same lady. My advice would be to walk 80m round the corner, that’s what we’ll be doing next time we’re up that way.

We were recommended The Angel Inn by our vacation home owners, so decided to go for the waterfall walks locally and then stop off for lunch. We were a bit early, but used to toilets and went for a short walk. On return we ordered the soup of the day (vegetable) and my wife had the Steak and Ale pie and I had the chicken and leek pie, both with chips and peas.

We had been out on the river all day and fancied a pint and quick bite to eat. We landed at the Angel and were greeted by very friendly staff who advised it may be a lengthy wait as they were very busy. We decided to go for it and I’m glad we did. The beer was good and the food was proper pub grub. Smoked veggie chilli was great, fish & chips portions sizeable and a few had the Gammon and said they wouldn’t need dinner that night.

I was pleasantly surprised, I was expecting a bland overpriced place cashing in on their location (being close to the waterfalls). What I found was a genuine country pub with character, reasonable prices and friendly staff. The food was good, cooked fresh and decent portions. The added bonus was being allowed to park while walking to the waterfalls. That saved what could of been about £5 in an ncp car park.

Booked last minute for Sunday lunch and was not disappointed. Absolutely amazing food, home cooked fresh veg and roasties, extremely tasty and faultless. Beef was very tender and falling off the fork. Super quick service and staff extremely polite and helpful. Could not fault at all. We also had a family meal there on an evening and again, the choice is varied and home cooked chips are delightful.

First impressions were that it was very quiet for a Friday evening. Not 1 person in Bar and just 3 tables in the restaurant (9 people). Menu was completely different online and we were advised it was new management. Seemed a very Basic menu. Ordered 2 Gammon, 1 Regular Burger & 1 Lamb Burger. Onion rings. Cheese garlic bread. Asked the waitresses if there was any sauce on the Lamb Burger her reply was 'No'. Advised that I could have 'No sauce whatsoever' . Her reply 'I will make sure' Food came and all looked nice. Gammon very undercooked. Went to cut Lamb burger in half to pick up and sauce absolutely oozed out. Not slightly but lots. Showed the waitress who said she was very sorry and would deal with it. Meal was back within minutes. Same burger as previously as the original cut was still there. THE CHEF HAD WIPED THE SAUCE OFF THE BURGER and put it in a fresh roll. Had to send it back as I'm not able to eat red sauce/relish ect. All food was left as the others were not even asked if there food was ok and it upset the whole table. Asked to speak to the manager and was advised he was busy. When we asked for the bill and advised we wouldn't be paying for the burger he appeared. Unfortunately he couldn't' see what was wrong with the situation. Didn't understand that wiping the sauce off was an issue and could have made me very Ill. Total bill £69.
