The chef is excellent even though the menu is small and the menu is written on cheap and flimsy pieces of paper. There is a problem at the moment with what drinks you can actually buy at the pub and this needs addressing pronto. The new pool table just in front of the toilets is a dire mistake. Not in keeping with a rustic village pub, noisy and in the way of people going to the toilets. It looks awful! The complaints about the sticky tables needs addressing but I can state that this is not “years worth of stickiness” as one customer stated but rather the fault of the previous owner who foolishly instructed his staff to anti bac the table and then use furniture polish afterwards whilst still wet from the anti bac spray . Hence the horrible sticky tables. There is no reason why these couldn’t be rubbed and sanded down though to eradicate the problem. Carpet is old fashioned and a kick of paint plus a removal of some of the dated ornaments would work wonders too.

Agree with Unpath’s review. Great food - best Sunday roast around, sadly marred by the sticky tables and tired look. However the new owners have put their all into this place and I hope people give this place a chance. In time they intend to do the place up - staff are very friendly and hospitable. We will continue to support them - just sort out the sticky tables and rip the old carpets out! Well done for trying to make a go of it!

Vastly improved restaurant. The food hete used to be rather basic, and often over-cooked ( burned). Thrte is now new management and the good is excellent. Unfortunately, there remains one serous issue that makes it less than a 5* experience. The tables are as sticky as a toddler given jam to play with. We watched arable being 'vleaned' after someone's meal. A few squirts of some cleaning fluid, a swipe with a cloth, job done. That means the tables are horrible to touch and puts you off a second visit. Perhaps when the tables have been given a good jet each and years of ingrained stickiness has been got out, it might be safe to return...

It's still got the village pub feeling and thats nice. Alot has changed...not the interior but the menu a little bit but for the better. It's deffo freshly cooked. The service. Was spot on! We both had steak and it was perfectly cooked. I'm glad that they have taken on the Angel and I wish them every success...we'll see you soon and thank you for a lovely meal x

We visited on a Wednesday evening wanting some decent food after a bad experience elsewhere the night before. If I could give The Angel Inn 6 stars I would. Wow. The food. So good. And the service. They have lots of choice on the menu and also specials posted above the bar. I believe all the specials include a pint. Excellent value and great idea. We had melon and prosciutto as one starter and king prawns as the other. I’ve posted the photos with this review. Both were excellent. For main we had scampi (daughter’s favourite) and I had the special of grilled chicken kebab. (This was in the recommendation of another patron who raved about it - they were right!) What super impressed me was that the naan bread is homemade. Yes, homemade! The chef even came out and asked if I’d like garlic or chilli etc in it. So it was made just how I wanted it. Crazy good service and tasted, well, probably the best I’ve ever had. This place really deserves to succeed. Great staff, great food, lovely location. Good luck to you all in your new venture. We really enjoyed our evening at The Angel.

New management, new menu, cracking draft Bass. The new team have only been in for a week but the Bass is the best I've had for ages. The food is great. A more limited, but now fully home made, menu, served in a semi fine dining format, is well worth sampling. The pricing is good too, I've paid much more for a less enjoyable meal locally. Well worth a visit

We have been going to the Angel for many years and thought I best write a review. My wife, family and I went yesterday for late Sunday lunch and the food as always was fantastic. I went for the beef Sunday dinner and the beef quite literally melted in my mouth. Considering we went at 4.30 and looking at last orders, everything was still super fresh. Additionally, the new land lady was lovely. We have a very picky 2 1/2 year old who eats hardly anything at the best of times. We weren't charged a penny for his small plate (which he didn't eat any way), and also didn't charge us for his small bowl of ice-cream. We have been many times as mentioned and will go again many more times. We are fortunate where we live for Sunday lunch options, but 9/10 we always decide on the Angel Inn.

Good choice of sauces to complement your meal and beautiful gravy. Lovely atmosphere, polite staff and friendly locals. Have heard great things about this pub and decided to visit with the Government help out eat out scheme. Food was tasty and the service good. Just thought the bill for a 3 course meal for 2 and only 1 of us had 2 small white wines was a bit steep at just under £54 - that was with the £20 maximum deducted. Left us with a bit of a sour after taste. Will definitely think again before helping out........

Went for evening meal last night, 2 couples, had 2 T bone steaks and 2 chicken specials with bacon and brie. Each meal was as if it was made by someone who has never prepared a meal for public service before. The chicken was like rubber and the brie was not even melted. The pepper sauce must be out of a packet and had no pepper taste. The steaks were very thin and pale in colour and overcooked, medium was asked for but due to them being so thin they were well done, a waste of £23 each. Everyones chips were like warmed up leftovers, not triple cooked more like 5 times cooked, very dark brown in colour and a tiny portion maybe a potatoesworth. Weve been here many times and it is normally excellent especially the carvery, but Im afraid we wont be going again.

There is a tapas menu as well as a general menu. There is a variety of meals to suit everyone's taste and pocket. It is table service and the server was friendly and took our order very promptly. \the food arrived quickly and my cheese and onion omelette was brought on one plate with the chips and salad served separately. It was hot, very tasty and a good size portion. In fact so large that we couldn't manage a dessert! The tables were kept cleared and wiped down. There is sufficient parking. It's a while since we've been to this pub but we always had a beautiful meal before so I booked us in for Sunday lunch and i wasn't disappointed. The carvery was fantastic and what a great change to see roast lamb as an option so as that's my wife's favourite that's what she had, I chose the beef. We were given two of the biggest portions of beautifully cooked meat that we've had on a carvery for a very long time. The vegetables were plentiful and delicious. Thought about a sweet but seriously couldn't have eaten another morsel. The price was amazingly low (£8.95) for the carvery and I would quite happily have paid more. Great food, great service and a very warm and welcoming atmosphere. I would have no hesitation in recommending this lovely little pub to anyone. The only slight gripe is that it's only a small bar area and people were sat there on the bar stools and seemed reluctant to move aside when others came in and ordered their drinks which I found a bit ignorant and ill mannered. Perhaps locals that thought it was their right to hog the bar. Anyway, gripe over, it was still a great experience

Saw paella on the menu and being led to believe the food here was 1st class thought I'd give it a try. Unfortunately I couldn't have been more disappointed. The portion was tiny and I'd have thought it more a starter. It was unbelievably bland and barely any seafood in it. I can only assume the muscles in it had been chopped up to make them go further or they were the smallest in the world. At £12 I'd have expected a reasonable meal. I'm quite surprised the kitchen weren't too embarrassed to let this go out. As we were there for a birthday meal with a group it made it somewhat awkward to complain. The inner surroundings are lovely and quaint and it was very clean. The menu was quite extensive with food to suit all tastes and the prices were very reasonable. There is also a carvery available. We chose from the specials board and both had chicken in a peppercorn sauce with home made chips and peas. We didn't have to wait long for the meal and it was freshly cooked. It was served incredibly hot and was really lovely. We then chose desserts, Bakewell tart for my friend and treacle sponge for myself both with custard. Beautiful. My friend was on crutches following a recent knee operation and, without prompting, the waitress was very helpful and gave us a table for 4 with plenty leg room although there were only two of us. The toilets were very clean and well stocked. There is a large car park and easy access. This was our first visit but it definitely won't be our last.

Meat and vegetables were all luke warm and stuffing was left as looked/tasted like it had not been in the oven.We were only going to have a carvery but as we still felt hungry we had a dessert to. For the price the portions were small and made to look smaller by the huge rectangular plates they were served on! A place found by accident a couple of months ago and 10 minutes from family. We booked a table for 8 and had a very pleasant meal. Staff were friendly, helpful and made the evening. Wish lived nearer as it would be my local.

Booked a table here on our world super bike weekend very friendly greeting myself and father went for the carvery my friend had a omelette. Lovely tender meat nice roast potatoes and Yorkshire puddings and hot proper gravy. They had a freezer break down which ment the ice cream was a little on the soft side. My friend's homemade cheesecake was very good so he said. My only gripe was I had two of the most expensive pints of coke I have had any ware in the uk if I had known it was £3.40 a pint I would not have had the second drink!

Really tasty, hearty food in a great country location but near to Coalville centre and the A42. Often distant welcome from some staff which is off putting but compensated for with exceptional portions, great lunch time choice....which includes vegetarians.... great value and if the sun shines....a large beer garden to relax in.

Visited the pub tonight to celebrate my friends birthday. The staff were very welcoming and the food was excellent. The carvery looked delicious, menu and special board available. The food and presentation was of a high standard in taste and presentation. The staff were attentive and bought the cake over and sang. Nothing was too much trouble and I can't wait to go back! Thank you for a great night.

Clean but basic surroundings, good old fashioned pub grub but nothing special. The staff are very welcoming and really helpful. Not a special occasion place but otherwise good.

My husband and I visited The Angel after a friend's recommendation. We were warmly welcomed and ordered a wine and a pint. As it was lunch time we didn't want a main meal so ordered a couple of baguettes, prawn Marie rose and steak and onion. We were also very impressed with receiving table service. The baguettes arrived and we were amazed. They were presented on a wooden board and were accompanied by a generous portion of proper chips, salad and coleslaw. The food was very tasty and excellent value at just £4.95 each!!! We left very comfortably full and will definitely be returning. Thank you also for the wonderful service we received. A very friendly proper pub.

We dined here when passing a few months ago, and were not disappointed. The menu was typical pub food, but well cooked and 'honest'. Portions were plentiful and the staff were very pleasant. We will certainly try again when in the area.

A favorite eating place of discerning groups, Highly rated by the Coalville U3A and several WI's This is a very welcoming venue. One long room, the old small eating area is still curtained off perhaps to prevent drafts from the careless who fail to close the entry door. The food is good quality well cooked without frills or fancy but all the right accompanying sauces, a frequent luncheon halt for locals and lucky travellers

We have visited the angel a couple of times & have received a warm welcome from the guy behind the bar (who I think owns it) on both occasions. There are a variety of things to choose from on the menu aswell as a specials board & they cater for all dietary requirements, to be honest I would visit here just for the chips, they are gorgeous!!!The kids menu is great and little man enjoyed his food but the homemade carrot cake was his favourite!!All staff very attentive & friendly.A lovely country pub, gorgeous homemade food, it's well worth a visit!!

We went for an evening meal at 6pm on Tuesday. The staff were very welcoming and quickly seated the two of us and took our orders. The mixed grill was very good value for money and was a great portion size. My colleague had the chicken fillet with mushrooms and that looked really good too. Will be back when I'm in the area again!

Sadly going down hill. Staff are less than eager to serve, coffee is poor and the furniture is looking tired. The layout of the tables also makes it difficult to navigate. The whole pub needs an injection of enthusiasm.

Went for a family sunday dinner. We booked well in advance. To get to the table you have to walk through the main bar which was full of football fans shouting at the tv. Not a great welcome. Place was decorated lovely and the table was away from the busy bar. We all ordered, most of us a roast dinner and was then informed there was no chicken, belly of pork or beef so the only option was leg of lamb so we went for that. Waitress then came back to say there wasn't enough lamb so one of us had to compromise. The dinner arrived there was one small bowl of cauli cheese between 6 of us and was charged for an extra bowl £3.50. The dinner was small veg also came in little bowls and we ordered extra. The lamb was not was was on the menu. There was no leg and you got a coupke of slices of lamb. Waitress really tried her best but I felt she was very embarrassed. We ordered dessert, most of us cheesecake. Waitress returned to say only 1 cheesecake left. Why does this pub have no food? They knew we were coming well in advance. Food was nice not enough of it for the price. Staff were great can't fault them
