Recently came here for a visit during our trip to London for a few beers. Had to visit as my brother had worked here many years ago. Beer was great. Staff was friendly.

I lived in London briefly in 1999-2000 I was here probably 6 days a week. It sort of functioned as a meetup spot for a lot of my friends / associates. I drank many pints and worked my way through the menu. I was happy with both. It was the atmosphere and feel of the place that kept me coming back. I have never found another pub / bar to rival it in comfortable feel.

Don't recommend this pub due to one miserable staff member behind the bar, shouting and being very grumpy with several customers within the space of an hour, which was embarrassing to see. This man completely ruined the experience, when it wasn't needed or justified in the slightest.

I have never been presented with a worse Sunday roast. It was as if leftovers had been gathered and put on a plate. And tasteless shrivelled leftovers at that. I reviewed the pub on trip advisor beforehand and I can tell you now that not one picture of the food or crockery came close to what we were served. Shocking!! Absolutely shocking.

A fantastic, accidental, random find, as I was initially looking for somewhere, to use a toilet, quickly. Fantastic 200+ year old Pub, with incredible wooden interior design and remarkable warm fireplace. Lovely, peaceful atmosphere inside - bar man was a legend - nice selection of beers etc An absolute breath of fresh air - ultra traditional from modern pubs, and a nice birthday drink for my father, my sister and a friend of hers. Fantastic.

We stopped in here after looking around the high street for a reasonably priced and relaxing lunch and weren’t disappointed. A really nice Caesar salad, some of the best nachos we’ve ever had (and we like our nachos) and a really smooth and refreshing pint of Sam Smiths organic. Beautiful old fashioned wood panelling. Wish we were a bit more local to this gem of a place. Biggest sticky toffee pudding I’ve ever seen! What a lovely lunch!

Stopped in for lunch on the Saturday before Easter. Dined in the upstairs room, which was very comfortable, quiet and pleasant. The service was attentive and cheerful. Food was hearty and well prepared. The selection of ales and beers was limited but what we had was good. Prices were quite reasonable, particularly given the location. We were very pleased with the experience and would not hesitate to recommend it to others.

I met up with an old Uni friend; I don't generally go into Town on a Sunday, so I had no idea that Marylebone High Street (chosen due to proximity to our respective tube stations) would be so very busy. As we worked our way along, every place was fully booked. We stumbled across Angel in the Fields - we were encouraged by the traditional feel -oak panelling etc. Food was served upstairs -we were not so encouraged by the fact we may have been the only people in there. It did fill up quite quickly. We both went for Cod and Chips - fish was nice , batter a little oily -chips were oven chips, but OK and the mushy peas were fine. It was a perfectly respectable meal. Disappointment was the beer -no guest aies -my friend's lager was unusual and unknown; the Samuel Smiths IPA came in a bottle, not on draught -I had to request a pint glass, rather than a half several times. I did not feel that the staff were 'pub' people, but they were friendly and it would be very unusual to have lunch and a beer in C London for less than £20 a head. Lovely open fire -place was packed by the time we left and, looking round, there were some super dishes being tucked into.

I went here with 4 female friends and unfortunately we witnessed a man on the street verbally abuse a woman passing by. We reprimanded him and instead of being supported by the manager we were told to stop talking about it amongst ourselves, and he described us as ‘man haters’. We were extremely disappointed and hurt by this sexist comment and needless to say we won’t be returning.

It difficult to find a meal on a Sunday in the area. Most places are booked up and to be honest full of obnoxious types and their exceptionally loud children and dogs. The place is a pub first and for most, it reminds me of a country pub, especially as there isn’t any music on in the background. On entry the greeting of a long unblinking stare and blacking stance from a member of staff was a little off putting (“upstairs for food“). The gentleman tending the bar and serving food was friendly and smiling, an entertaining individual who brought some much needed cheer and made us feel really at home. You need to book a head for a Christmas lunch (slightly odd off you’re getting foot traffic drop ins) and they don’t serve Sunday lunch at Christmas. We had the liver and onions and a steak and kidney pie. Neither was anything to throw a party over, but it came within a decent time scale and was hot. Both were nice and decent price. Pint of stout and a bitter were good. They had the real fire going (which smelt lovely) and we sat looking out at the high street as we ate. Would we go back? Yes - we weren’t expecting 5 star eating for under £30 for two. We got what we paid for. Advice for the owner - staff staring at you as you walk in, not greeting or speaking to you, making you ask where to go for a table for lunch, is weird and uninviting. Some music would be nice. Other wise, give the chap who served us extra pay, he’s a gem.

My husband and I were in town with our baby. We stopped for a welcome break at this pub. A friend met us shortly after. After having bought drinks, the barman came to us to let us know that they did not welcome children and invited us to leave saying that ‘we do not think a pub is an appropriate place for a child’. I asked the barman what he knew about what is an acceptable place for my child and his response was that their philosophy is no child, no laptop and no smartphone. We will not be returning again.

I especially like the premises, it is worth having a look at the second floor where food is served even if you do not intend to dine. We passed this pub on our way to dinner, and thought it looked so interesting, that we popped in for a drink after our meal. It's architecture is pseudo-Gothic/medieval, and the amazing, stained glass windows are even more impressive from inside! Each one is different, showing various plants and flowers. The walls are wood-panelled, so the whole atmosphere is cosy and picturesque. My husband was delighted it was a Samuel Smith pub, and I enjoyed my glass of wine. We noticed they have a lot of organic and Fairtrade ingredients, and don't advertise, saying "excellence speaks for itself". Not only that, the prices were very reasonable, especially for a pub right by Bond Street! We paid less than in the pretentious, Antic pub near where we live in East London, for better drinks, and a functioning toilet!

An attractive looking typical London pub, advertising ‘serving meals upstairs’.These were pleasant, comfortable, spacious and quiet surroundings. Wood panelled walls upstairs, and stained glass windows downstairs. There was plenty of room here when we walked in at 1.30 pm, and after a few hours of walking around that part of London, we were ready for a hot meal, and opted for a ‘starter’ to keep us going. My soup and bread roll and my wife’s breaded mushrooms took well over half an hour to arrive, but were well cooked and tasty. The waitress said ‘sorry about the wait’.We had a long wait, too, for the table to be cleared after this course (over 15 minutes) although the waitress passed by our table a couple of times with empty hands. And then a funny thing happened : just before we were served with our main course (Lasagne, and Macaroni Cheese, with garlic bread and salad, all of which were very nice), a group of eight young ladies came in and sat together at a large table. The waitress approached them after they had all settled and said she could serve ‘drinks only, no food’.The group left as we were being served, at about 2.30 pm. (Again, from the waitress ; ‘ Sorry about the wait. We’ve got a new cook.’)A few minutes later, two couples came in, independently, sat at tables and then surprisingly placed orders for cooked meals. So how was that ?We finished our meal just before 3 pm and left, with our plates uncleared at our table. We met the waitress on her way up the stairs. There was no mention of ‘How was your meal ?’ Further to all this : there was no Prawn Cocktail, no Bacardi, no Fish and ‘our coffee machine is not working at the moment.’It was nice to have a quiet sit-down for an hour and a half, but we really had more sightseeing to do.Conclusion : a pleasant meal in nice surroundings, but painfully slow service from the kitchen. How long does it take to heat up ready prepared meals ?
