Andy's Fish Bar in South Derbyshire

Absolutely smashing fish and chips, perfectly cooked and crisp batter, fried in beef dripping. Wonderfully flaky haddock and some proper proper chips also cooked in beef dripping. Chinese curry sauce was a winner and their saveloys are great! Will definitely be coming back!

I've used Andy's Fish bar a number of times now, never had a bad meal from them and always delivered promptly. The fish is divine, although I personally pay a little extra for cod. The fish is thick, really well cooked with a great crispy batter and not greasy at all. Chips are fantastic too. I've also had the Souvlaki a number of times and it tastes fantastic. I can highly recommend Andy's Fish Bar, my go to place for fish and chips now.

Great food is the best chippy in the area by far

Food is good. Not amazing as it use to be. Unfortunately the price isn’t as reasonable as it use to be for the same items. Overall it’s good. Staff are lovely and love the fish display.

First time ordering and very impressed with not only the speed of delivery but the quality of tonight’s food. Non greasy fish both the haddock and cod were cooked to perfection. Nice size portion of non greasy chips. Daughter had sausage chips and gravy again cooked to perfection. Will return for sure.

Really sorry but chips were overcooked and food was cold. I thought portion size was small for the mixed meat considering the cost and there was no sauce (requested garlic mayo) and salad would have been nice (wasn't an option to include but most other places do).

I’ve lived in Swad my whole life and never found a better chippy. Chips are unbeatable, Doner meat is the best I’ve ever had and the fish is always 10/10. The service is always amazing and the staff couldn’t be more welcoming.

Great large chippy in the local area, has inside seating avaliable, offers some great meal deals and specials on weekends. Food was very nice, including mixed meat kebab. Has a large fish tank inside waiting area. With some very nice fish, plecos and turtles. Staff friendly and helpful. Looks like grabs many locals and tourists.

The food arrived cold. I ordered separate pots of chilli sauce. This was missing. The chilli sauce was put onto the meat which is what we dislike, hence ordering separate. The taste of the meat was awful. Meals went into the bin

Very unprofessional. Staff not only are rude, but can’t take orders properly!! I mean.. it’s taking orders!! Can’t be that hard!!! Which lead to out orders lacking and when I called them back, they would not listen and called us liars!!! Well done dudes 👍🏼

Lovely fish, chips lacked flavour! Please steer clear of the Cornish pasties It was like eating tasteless cardboard with very little flavour in the filling really disappointed for the price it cost

We order from here pretty regularly and it's always been delivered on time and pipping hot! Portions are a decent size and the food has always been delicious 😋 Delivery drivers are nice and polite as well

Been using andys for years and its isually very good, but tonights was aweful. Asked for lg curry which was wrapped then put into a shallow tray, needless to say when i opened it the lid had split and curry was all over the paper...why! Chips were cold and chewy. Worst meal i,ve ever had from there.

Been going to Andy's for long time now. Have been amazing fish n chips but this time round they were not that good. I don't now if it's the oil they are cooked in. I had a horrible after taste, the batter was a dark colour on the fish and the chips were awful. Thats my opinion so you need try try them yourself. Won't be going back for awhile. Thought I would add this as well. Had a reply to this review. sounds like they was left in the box too long. Really!😂

What to say about this chippy. I was told not to come here due to high prices and bad food but was I right not to listen. I had a fish and chips (both small) and the fish was cooked perfectly and the chips were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. My brother had a southern fried chicken burger with bbq sauce and salad and it was just amazing. The prices may be steep but it is definitely worth the price and would 100% come again. The staff were very friendly and the atmosphere was very welcoming. Would definitely recommend to anyone in the area as this is the best chippy in swad.

I asked for a doner meat burger only to be told they don’t do this, but then I got told she can put doner meat on a soft bun for me!!!! Really, is that not what I asked for to begin with. I then get charged £1.70 for salad to go on my doner burger!!! Then after it’s all wrapped up I get asked if I want salad or sauce after I’ve already asked for it, so then it was unwrapped and very forcibly added a small amount of sauce and a handful of salad! After paying £16 for a burger chips and 4 little pieces of fish I get it home to find the meat doesn’t resemble anything like doner meat. It was dry, bland and very rubbery, like it’s been cooked to an inch of its life! Needless to say I won’t be coming back and I advise anyone who is wanting to try this place not to bother.

So myself and my three girls went over to the festival of leisure at the Maurice Lee memorial park yesterday. I thought we'd pop in here for lunch rather than pay the extortionate prices at the festival, I wish I'd just paid the prices for a burger!! So I ordered the fish and chip special deal at £8.99. The fish was terrible, under cooked, of poor quality, and tiny! The chips were overcooked, and not very nice at all. Two of my children had a kids meal deal of Southern fried chicken, chips and a fruit shoot or water at £4.50 each. Well the chicken was vile, after they'd pulled it apart to let it cool down there seemed to be a jelly like substance between the meat. It looked disgusting, they said it tasted strange, they didn't eat it. And overcooked chips! What a waste of money! My other child had a kids meal deal of sausage and chips, her sausage I think was the only thing that looked decent out of all of our meals. She didn't eat her overcooked chips either. I wouldn't recommend this chip shop. There are far better chippys in Church Gresley. Save your money and go to those ones instead. I only wish I'd taken pictures before we binned the food tbh. And I should have complained at the state of the 'chicken' but the queue had got longer when we were leaving and the children wanted to get back to the festival. Lesson learnt, I'm future I'll always check Google reviews before going into somewhere we've not been before!

Awful!! Worst chips in south Derbyshire

Pass this business often thought I'd give it a try...Paid nearly ten pounds for a mini fish and chips. Fish was less than average and less than a mile away the same meal can be purchased for around six pounds. You only make a mistake once, so won't be going back.

Far too expensive now... about £8 average for a take away meal and the portions are a lot smaller. Plus the chips are tasteless and have been for a couple of years now. It's a shame as its my local chippy and I have to go further afield now.

New girl on Order wrong not her fault. Lack of training order a treble burger mix got 3 beef burgers. Not complaining about the new girl she's gonna do her best but it's the lack of training that lets it down. To keep your head high you're doing your best. Good luck

Popped in for some lunch after being in the area for a work trip. The best fish and chips I’ve had in ages! Crispy light batter on a freshly cooked fish and a decent portion of chips for a meal deal price. Hopefully future work meetings finish at lunchtimes so I can return!

Bloody awful chips, dry and hard, ate what i could, didn’t taste that fresh at all, i left the inedible ones. Only ate what i did as i was hungry and didn’t want to waste food. I don’t fancy eating lunchtime leftovers and so don’t plan on returning again.

Popped into Andy’s fish bar for some Gluten Free fish & chips. I wasn’t disappointed and was happy to wait while my food was cooked fresh. The food was delicious but what impressed me the most was the attention the ladies paid to my order. I had asked for some curry sauce to compliment my meal and the ladies were concerned about it containing gluten. I was extremely grateful because my daughter has a severe allergy. Luckily the sauce was for myself but I really appreciated their concern. Thank you

Ordered 2 burgers and chips, it was bang on, tasty burgers, great chips, there was lots of choice there.

No issue with the food quality just the price. Not worth the money unfortunately.

We have recently moved to the area and have been trying out different chip shops . This is the one for us , the chips are amazing and the fish batter is so thin and not thick and grease holding. We really enjoyed our food, and won't go anywhere else from now on .

We are camping nearby and with a relatively new coeliac in the family we came here for tea following a search on the coeliac UK website. The gluten free fish and chips were lovely. The batter was significantly better than ones from other shops. The rest of us had the usual food (daren't say 'normal' as this is likely to offend) and it was really tasty. The fish has lots of flavour and the chips were lovely as well. The shop itself is inviting with a massive fish tank and the kids watched the tropical fish whilst waiting for tea. Staff were really friendly and it couldn't have been clearer which food was gluten free as it they bagged it separately. Big portions. We got 3 large chips for 4 people (2 adults and 2 kids who eat adult size portions) and it was too much. The 'small' GF meal was perfectly fine for an adult even though it was for a child, I wouldn't have been able to eat it all. It came to roughly 30 for the 5 of us which is what I would expect to pay for the food we had ordered and anywhere which sells GF food is always a winner in my book! GF food only available Mon, Tues and Wed though so be mindful of that if you plan on visiting. We would def visit this fish shop again. Thanks so much.

Rubbish food pies taste like a week old inedible, fish so over cooked no fish just batter to break your teeth ,chips cold absolutely the worst Friday meal I have ever had packaging over the top it’s not going to make your food better unfortunately all in the bin thank you for my hard working week Friday night meal

You used to be good, but now there is better much better, Millennium fish bar is growing now above and beyond you,. Better food all round July 2022 : Update, My son popped in, he took the Andys FishBar and OMG talk about a downhill service. NEVER AGAIN! Chips are tasteless and dry. The chicken was so hard I put in the bin.

The best do I have ever hosted came when I asked Andy’s to cater my jubilee street party. Perfectly cooked, piping hot, a fab delivery driver, thank you Chris for making it happen.

Following a recent trip to Athens I wanted to recreate the Taste of Greece, especially (as the Sun has been shining) so I opted for the mixed chicken and pork souvlaki with Greek salad and tsatziki - delicious!

OMG what can I say about this place it’s fantastic, the range of food and taste blows all the rest out of the water would recommend to anybody to try this place

Having been ordering with delivery from here once a week for a long time now. Have now had to source another chippy with delivery as just gone on line to place my weekly tea order for the family to be told that delivery is no longer available to my address!! Well this is on loyal customer that has been lost & will be going elsewhere from now on!!

Very disappointing. Paid over the odds for dried up donner meat and flavourless chips. Asked the guy behind the counter for sauce, which seemed like an inconvenience for him, and he somehow got confused between mint sauce and sweet chilli sauce (which we asked for). Won't be returning anytime soon.

Fantastic to find a gluten free chip shop. Fish was beautifully cooked so fresh and tasty. Chips again beautiful and fresh and not greasy. Blooming lovely.

Firstly this meal cost £20 delivered, the order was for mini cod fish, chips and large peas for my wife and mixed kebab meat and salad for me. What arrived was a mini fish, the flesh was grey in colour and it was very small, the chips were dry and over cooked ( no salt and vinegar as requested ) and a small watery peas ( we paid for large). The doner kebab meat again was at least 1 - 2 days old, bitty with gristle and dry, and the chicken meat was also dry and basically inedible. I have given 1 mark for the packaging and 1 for the salad as it was fresh, also the bag it came in was a nice touch. Andy’s has always been our go to fish shop but this has left us very disappointed indeed. Steve

Andys has had a refit and is very open. You can see that you are getting fresh cooked food from a clean kitchen. It has a great selection of meal deals and kebabs as well as your standard fish a chips. Andys is worth a visit. I'm lucky it's just up the road from me.
