We love this place so much that we booked a table for 3 consecutive nights during our recent stay at Cofton holiday cottages. We enjoyed every night, the food is great, the beer selection is good and the wine list is also good. Probably my favourite pub

Visited the Anchor Inn in Cockwood last Sunday (13th October), having pre-booked a table a few weeks ago. Firstly, having arrived half an hour early we were seated immediately and served by a young man who was excellent, both in manner and service. The Sunday roast was amazing and most definitely one of the best we have ever had and I really do mean ever! My wife had the beef, whilst I had turkey with all the trimmings, washed down by a local real ale. The Anchor Inn was very olde worlde with a great ambience, was warm, the staff were outstanding and we had a thoroughly enjoyable experience. One bit of advice and that is to get there early in order to park as the car park adjoining the Anchor is small, with parking scarce in the village. Would also recommend you book in advance. A lovely, proper pub overlooking a picturesque little harbour. 10/10

Delicious Sunday roast Passed by a few times and wanted to try for a meal. Glad we did this with friends. We all had the beef, which was cooked to perfection and accompanied with some tasty veg. It's a bit on the pricey side, but the quality of the dining experience shines through and worth paying a bit extra especially if it's a special occasion, a treat or where dining experience matters. Service was good as was the atmosphere. Will definitely be back for a meal when wanting our next treat. Highly recommended

We visit here whenever staying at Cofton holiday park as the food is lovely. This visit was particularly good, we both had the sweet chilli prawns starter then I had scallops and my husband had steak. Absolutely lovely food, the scallops were perfect. Cost is quite high but it’s a lovely treat and the food is awesome. We have been here many times but this was the first at the far end of the pub where the interior is very boat like and was lovely down that end

I visited this pub with my partner for an evening meal and found somewhere to sit despite it being busy. The pub is clearly an old one, and in a perfect setting by the small harbour, there is a terrace outside that looks out onto the water. The pub comprises various seating areas of different sizes, including at least one snug and some space on the first floor, when we visited this area wasn't bring used but would be great for a small group. The meal we had was well cooked and presented. The portion sizes were fine. There was some delay but we didn't mind, the pub is quaint with a pleasant atmosphere which we just soaked up, the pub was also busy and food is cooked fresh. The cost of food and drinks is higher than average, often found in prime spot pubs and inns. It has a varied menu that caters to all tastes. They specialise in fish and seafood, something to bear in mind with seafood allergies. The inn is quirky in its decor with a marine theme and objects and pictures everywhere, so it's interesting to look around. Toilets are on the ground floor. They were clean but a bit of a tight squeeze , I don't know if they have one that is wheelchair accessible. The staff are efficient and polite. They have a nicely stocked bar with local ales and spirits. As befitting a pub of its age , it's reputed to be haunted.

This is our experience at the Anchor Inn over two visits. First time, just turned up and luckily managed to get a table for two. We had whole tail scampi, King prawn Mornay, Homemade Banoffee pie and two scoops of Salcombe dairy ice cream. The second visit was on a Thursday evening and booked a table for two . As my wife had tried my Mornay last time, she ordered it this time, I had their Mussels West Country :cooked in a creamy cheddar cheese sauce and Devon cider, one of nine variations from their Mussel selection. Personally I thought their balance of flavours were spot on. Homemade Banoffee pie and Homemade sticky toffee to finish off. We had thoroughly enjoyed our meals both times and on both occasions the staff were friendly and attentive.

What a little gem. A lovely old pub quirky, charming and in a great setting. Would highly recommend a visit. Their staff are very welcoming, lucie was great but they all were. The food was excellent I had scallops. My partner had megrim sole so did my sister in-law which both said was perfectly cooked and delicious. My brother in law had the fish and sea food moray which also got the thumps up. It was so good that we booked for the following night ( tonight 28 June ) and at the end of tonight after another great meal around we booked again. Gets very busy as well like by the locals so I would recommend booking.

For many years this has been a favourite usually too sample the extensive mussel menu or various other fish and meat dishes. Sadly nowadays one of us can no longer eat seafood but this didn’t stop us having a fabulous Sunday lunch at the Anchor. Even if we had not chosen the excellent Sunday roasts there were plenty of alternatives available. We went for a beef roast and a turkey roast respectively with a few extras. The portions were generous with a plentiful amount of delicious gravy. We were seated with our dog in a cosy area warm and comfortable on an otherwise damp grey day . The atmosphere was as always friendly and attentive. Both pubs in Cockwood are lovely places to be individual and untainted by the corporate curse! Long may it last. Thankyou Anchor team for a SUPER Sunday.

A friend and I visited The Anchor. We had the mixed shellfish platter for two. It was beyond excellent. There was one item we could not identify, and the server knew what it was immediately. No going back to the kitchen and asking the chef! There have been slightly adverse comments about the service. I found that the staff were there when we wanted them, then they cleared off and left us in peace when we did not.I was quite happy paying at the bar on leaving. Given the choice between that and having a bill waived in the face the moment the last morsel had been eaten, I know what I would prefer.A slight failing which ended happily. There was no Muscadet, so I was compelled to hold my nose and order the English white wine. From now on my dear friends over the water can keep keep their Muscadet and I will be happy to remain a little Englander in my choice of wine.Regarding social distancing, there were very tasteful plastic shields in place.

The managers have done everything in their powers to make the pub a COVID safe environment. The food is fresh and very well presented and the Sunday Lunches are especially good and are accompanied with a complementary desert. You can eat in or outside with a lovely view over Cockwood harbour. The waitress called Lucy that served us most of week was very good at her job and very attentive to our needs making sure that we had our food and drinks. We also have a small dog which was allowed to sit with us while we were eating which the waitresses fussed over which made you feel at ease as some pubs frown about bringing dogs in. We were led upstairs where every inch of the walls were covered in misc. The drinks were good, the food was a little above average. However, it was dark and no windows that you good actually look out of. Such a shame.

Visited here on a Friday lunchtime, would advise to pre book as they were very busy. In a lovely location with views of the harbour and lots of seating outside. The service was average, felt like they should of checked up on how the food was. The food was very good, with a lot of gluten free options available. Would go back if we were in the area again.

A very short drive from Dawlish Warren we visited for Sunday dinner after being let down by another establishment. In the end we were lucky we had been let down as the meal was delicious. There a long wait due to 3 chefs being off isolating but this was out of their control and not an issue as we had been advised up front.

I was staying in Kenton for a wedding and popped along for an early evening meal at the Anchor. Amazing harbourfront location, so pretty, and a lively and convivial atmosphere outside in the summer weather. Inside, however, was very very dark with no atmosphere -- it seems like more of a wintertime pub, when the cramped and dark interior would become 'cosy'. Staff very friendly, but rather rushed. Service quick, and Cornish scallops were excellent, as were the chips. Side of veg was dry and uninspiring -- likely had been sitting around for a bit -- but some olive oil sorted it. I left feeling a bit bemused and probably wouldn't rush back -- if you go, try to sit outside!

I visited with my wife on our wedding anniversary with our 2 children aged 9 and 4. We were seated outside with a view over the harbour, which was very pleasant. Our food and drink were of a very high standard and we all enjoyed our meals. The only gripe I had with the food, was that the chips the children had looked like frozen chips. The seafood was excellent and beautifully fresh. The reason I haven't scored the establishment higher was because of the rowdy bunch of lads on the adjacent table. They had no awareness of families with children around them or any manners with the staff waiting on. There were 6 of them all talking over each other, which resulted in them shouting at each other. Announcing what they would do with suicide bombers, or bragging about their prison history, along with expletives is not the kind of experience expected when dining. One of the group claimed he ran a pub. I'd love to know the whereabouts of that establishment, so I can avoid it. We asked for a table inside and thankfully were accommodated. Nice place, of which I'd return for a meal, or just to fill those idiots in and see how hard they really are.

The place wasn’t as clean as one would hope to find it, and the food on both visits was utterly awful: tasteless, overpriced, very clearly microwaved, haphazard, thoughtless etc etc. A bacon bap or sausage roll from Spar is significantly more tasty, filling and worthwhile.

Pass by the chain coffee shops and pop in here. Based in the market. Serves great local coffee and all the cakes and lunches are homemade. Family run business. Great friendly staff.

This is a regular for us, however I’m becoming increasingly fed up with the managers attitude. Once again we were over charged recently, asked the female manager to resolve….. no apology, just a feeling we were bothering her. This manager really does need to sort her customer service out please.

Stopped on route between appointments with husband Barry. Friendly and quick service. Delicious ciabattas. Will be back to try desserts.

Usually a good bet to seek a café or restaurant away from the centre of town and waterfront. Modern interior, excellent coffee and sandwiches. A hearty soup of the day. Friendly crew and doggy friendly. Supported by locals. 🇬🇧🇳🇿
