The best in everything they serve! The fish and chips are great , big juicy cod and perfect chips . You cant go wrong with any of the meat kebabs all high quality meat cooked perfectly :-) the ampthill special kebab will feed two hungry people !

It is a few years since I used this chip shop. On 12th September 2023 at about 18.15 hrs I purchased a large Donor Kebab and large chips. The kebab was average and the chips were hard. I usually try to find a positive comment but unfortunately I cannot. Will not be visiting this chip shop again.

Amazing kebabs, excellent fish & chip, burger, chicken and pizzas. Gets very busy so call ahead and order would be my tip. These guys have been here for five or six years and have really made the place the best fish and chip shop in the area.

Lucky enough to live within walking distance to this place. The staff have always been so friendly and helpful. I love their halloumi ans chicken kebabs. Their fish is always fresh but the batter is not up to fish n chips standard but probably less fattening however all in all a great little takeaway

We have enjoyed fish & chips also kebabs many times from them - we usually end up saving half for the next day because the portions are very generous.

A regular call for our occasional kebab takeaway - open all hours, quick pint next door, reasonable cost, good portions and quality.

Quick food that is decent quality at fair prices. Kebabs are particularly good. We treat ourselves once a month or so. Recommended.

Plenty of choices from this shop. does the usual kebabs, burgers etc and the most lovely fish . Beware if you ask for large chips as there is enough to feed a family of two adults and two children! lovely and clean shop too.

Just a few minutes from the centre of the town is a proper fish and chip shop. The staff were friendly and the food was good value.

Good food but doesn’t help that they don’t speak good English and start huffing and puffing because you have to ask them to repeat themselves!!

Great fish and chips. The kids love the burgers don’t rate the donners but all the other kebabs are spot on staff are friendly and helpful

We’re local so we pop in now and again for a takeaway, it has to be said that the new owners have improved the place and the food 100%. The place is absolutely spotless, while I waited for my food I could not find a finger print, smear or speck of oil anywhere and it doesn’t have that awful smell of old oil that some chippys have. The food is always really fresh with generous portions and I can honestly say I have never had a duff meal. I can’t understand the negative reviews at all. The staff are quiet but ever so nice and helpful, and they don’t take your money until you’ve got your food. The donner kebabs are so good and fresh that I feel like I’m having health food! I’m not exaggerating! Fresh crispy salad and the meat is not greasy. They’re totally delish. You can get vegetarian kebabs also which look very appealing although I haven’t tried one. And the chips are proper traditional English chippy chips done really well. I honestly can’t fault this place. It’s five stars from me.

Very disappointed second time round. Doner Kebab was shockingly dry as a bone and very small amount in portion too...not edible at all....well for the chips, they must have been refried as the were just very bitty, hard and dry. Too pricey for what you get served.

Paid £9.80 for a large chicken kebab and chips..asked for sauce and they wanted a £0.50 charge. Then paid via card and they asked for a '£1' service charge.. ridiclous service never again will i go there and to top it off a few pieces of the chicken was PINK!

Had takeaway kebab. It was great taste and good price. Staff friendly and also gave me a free bottle of drinks.

Taken the kids in there a few times and we’ve always been happy. The men are really friendly and couldn’t be more helpful. Kids meal is so cheap and cheerful, food is always lovely!

Despite the reviews i decided to give this takeaway a try. I must say it was one the best choices i have ever made. First of all they took kebabs to another level. The shop is small, cosy and also clean. I was suggested to go for a combination kebab and it was just delicious. Donner wasn't greasy and the salad was fresh. I believe that this place is the new 'best kebab' for me.

I have tried their fish & chips and I think it is the best I have had in recent times. It's not just the fish & chips, I also enjoy their chicken kebabs which is great - I'm not sure but I think the owners are Turkish and we all know about Turkish kebabs.

We have tried here on a couple of occasions. Will not be returning! Chips were dry and nasty and sausages were no better. Also overcharged. Disappointing.

On the plus side, the portions of fish were very generous - maybe even too big. However, the least you expect from a chip shop is that they can fry chips properly. These were chewy and bland, like cardboard. Inedible. Spoilt the whole meal. Very disappointing.

Used this place in the past when it was a chippy and I have to stay it was appalling. But the new owners have done a good job and turn it into a decent takeaway for residents near ampthill. Me living in flitwick drove there to give it a try and have to say it was well worth it. Only downside is that the waiting times can be long.

Yo rara vez tengo la oportunidad de comer pescado y patatas fritas de prensa en estos días, pero recuerde hacer esto aquí en Ampthill donde crecí durante los años 70. Regresé recientemente y que estaba buenísimo, un recuerdo de tiempos pasados.

Gran mezcla de comida aquí. Invadieron la tienda de chips antiguo y todavía lo hacen muy buen pescado y patatas fritas, pero también ofrecen hamburguesas, kebabs y otras delicias. Es una pequeña ciudad con un montón de chippy variedad extra. Pruébalo!

Tenía una porción de patatas fritas y estaban tan soso, cruda y claramente no muy fresco. Mi hijo había cod demasiado pero eso no gusto de bacalao y estaba muy seco. Así como se recomienda decepcionado por amigos que dijo que era excelente. Quizás era tarde en la noche del sábado, pero que no hay excusa para tales mala comida. No iremos de nuevo.

Having heard good things about this place, I decided to go here today for lunch ordering a lamb shish kebab. It was really chewy and unpleasant and as well as this, the medium portion was absolutely tiny. Really not worth my money.

I have lived in Ampthill my whole life and this fish bar is by far the best. I recommend this fish bar to anyone living in the area or visiting.

we have always used Best Kebab in flitwick and we're delighted that we now have a local one in Ampthill . The Ampthill Specisl is top notch and plenty for 2

Reopened under new management in early December 2016. Ampthill Fish Bar is a bit of a misnomer now as it is a kebab bar as well as fish and chips.I've just had a couple of excellent kebabs, freshly made, superb quality, loads of meat and salad, choice of sauces, absolutely no complaints - even got a couple of free baklava thrown in!Well worth a trip for kebabs.

The real choices of fish are limited as the proprietor only ever seems to have large fish. The food is fine but only ever had fish and chips from him. Only go there when the Flitwick Fish Shop is closed.

I can't rate the food here as I didn't get that far. While waiting to order, the guy serving prepared some fish for the fryer then proceeded to wash his hands in the bucket of chipped potatoes. Grim!

This is a great place to go to for ignorance , I went in asked what was ready and was told everything if I waited . I ordered Cod and chips was told 5 mins , it took 10 then I was looking at a piece of fish swimming in grease , and the chips wasn't much better . I asked for salt and vinegar , it may as well have been gold and silver for the tiny amount I got . Then the final insult was the Coke was warm it had been sitting next to the deep fry . I asked for a cold one from the fridge to be told they are all the same . That was the final straw I told him not to bother and left with out the freshly wrapped grease parcel . Never again will I try that place .

This fish and chip shop has a good menu. Most orders, including the chips, are cooked while you wait. We have always found the fish to be tasty, with good crispy batter, and the chips are fully cooked, unlike in some places. The only downside is the lack of parking outside; however there is a road opposite where it is usually possible to find a space.

Great fish and chips, huge portions and always freshly cooked to order (so you may have to wait a few minutes). He may seem a bit grumpy to some but I've never had any problem with the owner.

First visit tonight. I'd read the reviews on here beforehand. I got hot, fresh, tasty fish and chips with friendly polite service. Nicely cooked chips and the fish wasn't too greasy. I'll definitely go again.

It sells chips, it also sells fish!! The food is good but you have to wait for them to cook it. Good if you like it fresh and hot but not if your in a hurry.

Heard a lot of negative things from neighbours and friends but wanted to try it myself..Positive- I found the chips to be really nice actually but that's all I had..Negative- The owner? ( man behind the counter) has no manners, not a hello, please or thankyou..appealing customer service..If you want excellent fish and chips, drive to Shefford, it's worth it!

I went in for two portions of fish and chips, niether were ready,so the owner said they would be about 5 mins or so, he cooks each portion in a wire basket, hung in the frier,drains some the fat/grease off and pours them onto the wrapping, and then you see the grease oozing outof the fish and chips onto the paper YUK!! why i paid for them and took them home i dont know, because when i opened them,and presented them to two hungry members of my family, they too went YUUUUKKKKKK!!!The fish was soaked in grease. I hate leaving crappy reviews..but this place deserves it

Used to go to this chippy a lot before I found the one in Barton, The food is quite soggy, greasy and quite frankly, disappointing. The man who works there is unfriendly and the atmosphere is gritty and bland. Will never go again, however, if you are hungry and want cheap food then it is OK. It would be nice for this chippy to be replaced by a better one as it is the only chip shop in Ampthill.

Rarely disappoints - if anything portions can be over-generous, so think twice before ordering large chips unless you're really hungry!

Asked for a large chips there wasn't enough ready so I just got given what was left which was no more than a handful. Asked for a pie which was placed on top of chips then salt and vinegar added around. The pie, so most of the chips were plain and I had to add correctly at home. Drive to flitwick chippy as that is much better.

Fab fish and chips - and very polite prompt service. best place for miles. We have used this for 20 years and had no disappointments.

Ampthill's only Fish & Chip Shop and perfect if you want a change from the wide selection of Asian and Indian takeaways in the area. Decent quality traditional grub.
